Me and my family came in tonight to eat, table of 8, 30 minutes before they close and the attended us regardless. I ordered a steak salad and it had the most delicious,tender steak I've ever had, don't even get me started on the service, 10/10 our waiter was a Hispanic man with a dangle earring, didn't catch his name but he was so hospitable and attentive, idk what they're paying him but he needs a raise. Only thing that I experienced here that I wasn't pleased with is that their is no baby changing table in the restroom that's the only reason I'm rating 4 stars but other than that inconvenience 10/10. I've been searching for a good new Mexican restaurant in the Gainesville/Manassas area and when I stumbled upon this place, I fell in love. It's a small dining area, maybe a dozen tables and booths, but its clean and new. Great decor with shiplap walls and some cool tile work near the kitchen. The steak nachos are, hands down, the best nachos I've ever had. They take a while to make but that's because they make the queso and the chips from scratch for each order. There's no pot o' queso or bag if chips sitting around all day. The steak is well seasoned and grilled. Cheese, queso, jalapeños, fresh guac, sour cream and a touch of pico. I ordered the enchiladas as I feel they are a great baseline dish for tex-mex. My oldest spawn ordered the biria taco. The enchiladas were fantastic. Hand rolled, house made sauce, shredded beef. Superb! And if the look of pure ecstasy on her face is to be used as a gauge, those are legit biria tacos. I don't know who Uncle Rico is, but it's clear he knows how to run a restaurant and make some killer food. The menu is choc full of authentic Mexican food and plenty of Tex-Mex to boot. We walked in at 8pm, an hour before closing. After waiting for a few minutes a server approached us to greet us, we asked for a table for 2. He said "sorry, but we are booked up for today." I was in disbelief as I looked around. The dining area was at maybe 40% capacity, outside was similarly over 50% empty, no one else waiting to be seated or for pickup orders. We really got turned away at the door after driving 40 minutes from Alexandria to come here. I ordered the enchiladas, four - two cheese & two chicken and asked for the hostesses for the house hot sauce, the server responded that that they did not serve anything hot or sauce up. The dish came out, looked good but upon digging in, was flavorless. I could not believe that a TexMex restaurant would have NO flavor to it at all, like eating plain rice warm cakes. Well, how the tables have turned. The first time we went, there was a gentleman who took my order. I asked him about any vegetarian options, he offered me a vegetarian burrito. I was excited, the burrito was EXCELLENT!!! came back a week later for a to go veggie burrito. Completely different from the first time and no guacamole. The first burrito came with guacamole. Came back a third time to get bad sour cream, no guacamole again. I'm not sure what happened but consistency is key when it comes to food and customers. We buy again because we expect that great taste and experience we had the first time. Service was great, quick, and the food was delicious. We got the combination fajitas (sans steak; extra shrimp) and the carne asada. Came out quickly and hot. Love that they give you 5-6 tortillas with the fajitas vs other places where they only give you 3. The cheese and sour cream portions could be a little more generous though. Wasn't a huge fan of the salsa, but if you like the brownish salsa like they have at Uncle Julios then you'll like it here. The kiddie high chairs are soo cute and have trays! Downside is they don't have a changing table in the bathroom, but if you don't have any babes in diapers this will be a nonissue for you. Cannot comment on drinks, bc they don't have their liquor license yet, but the waitress said it should be coming sometime next week. Overall it was a great experience. This review is for my second visit to Uncle Rico's Cantina. I really like the place. I had the Steak Fajita's and really loved them. My friend had the Chrizo and said they were really good, they were cooked well and had great a flavor. We both tried the Carnitas taco and never really heard of them before but they were awesome as well, will be adding this to my next order of tacos. I cannot say enough good things about this place, Fast service, food tasted great and the owners and servers were great to talk to.
