Absolutely amazing food! It's hard in this city to find good, old fashioned American-Chinese food and this spot does it right. The vegetables and meats are as fresh as it gets and their sauces are original and on point! It takes a bit longer than normal to get your food but that's because everything is being prepared to order. Just happened to walk by and see this place, and my friend had heard they had good vegan options, so we decided to give it a shot. Very generous portions for the price, and lots of tofu and fresh veggies! The only non vegan thing they have is egg, so it's very easy to get anything vegan. I asked about spicy basil fried rice, and they made it special for me! Everything was great, and the cook and order taker were quite friendly. They have lots of seating available, for this cart and the other 2 (which do not appear to be vegan friendly.) Very close to Homegrown smoker, in case you want to get a bit of both. :) read more

Although this is a food cart, you will expect restaurant quality because it has good meat and vegetables. Each dish is made to order and does take a little bit longer then typical food carts because the cook actually chops up fresh meat and veggies. Beef slices are tender and lean. It is not the type of meat that you would typically find at Chinese restaurant where the texture is tenderized with baking soda or the kind that makes you think what kind of meat you are eating. The veggies are fresh and sweet. The prices here are similar or a big higher than most Chinese restaurants and certainly more than a typical food carts (don't expect any $5 entree). But I'm willing to pay for the quality. The location has seating and a small pavilion that you can catch some musicians if you are lucky. The owner is very friendly. If he likes you, then he might throw in some free appetizers and dessert. read more

Found out about this cart through a coworker and was excited to try it! I got the Mongolian beef and it was delicious and a huge portion! The people working in the cart were very nice and helpful. I'm excited to have another vegetarian option in the area for lunch and dinner. My coworker got the pad Thai and said it was also delicious and a large portion, and another coworker had gotten the Szechuan tofu and enjoyed his. They have gluten free options too! Skip this joint. We were so excited about a vegetarian Chinese place moving to the neighborhood, but are pretty disappointed with the results. The hot and sour soup was not hot nor sour at all (had to dress it up with hoisin and soy sauce, plus a bunch of fresh ground pepper to make it at all palatable), the scallion pancake was doughy instead of crispy (and didn't come with the typical dipping sauce all scallion pancakes come with), and the kung pow beef was bland. I hate to ding a veggie-centric restaurant, but honestly, if you want really good vegan Chinese food, go to Yuan Su out at 111th and SE Powell. It's worth the drive. Wow! Just wow. The food here was so good! I am just sorry I haven't gotten here before. The menu is huge and varied, everything is vegetarian, and everything I had was so flavorful and good. Don't miss the dishes with turmeric and black pepper. The spice combined with the slight heat of the pepper is addictive. The turmeric and black pepper fried rice was awesome. It was filled with lots of crunchy vegetables and perfectly cooked and seasoned rice. The portion was also huge.The scallion pancakes were perhaps the best I have had in Portland. Love love LOVE Uncle Tsang's Kitchen. Lucky for me, i only live a few blocks away, so i get to enjoy it more often than i probably should! The fried green beans are delish with their spicy dipping sauce but my favorite are the pork and chicken potstickers. Fried mushrooms great too. Ive had the pork fried rice (my fave!) , and broccoli and tofu too. Portions are perfect to have a little leftover for day after (it tastes even better the second day after settling into all those spices) and prices are awesome. Is it Uncle Tsang and Aunti Tsang themselves in the kitchen? if so, they are the most gracious food cart (or restaurant for that matter) owners i've ever encountered. Since the pandemic (or maybe even before), i've noticed 99% of the food has reduced in quantity (by about 50%), the prices have gone UP 30-50% ($14 sauteed broccoli with tofu anyone?). I was not expecting the generously portioned, freshly prepared, delicious food that was brought out to us, by Auntie T, then uncle T came out and gave us extra napkins...without any prompt. My mouth melted with the delicious lettuce wrap and the plump perfectly folded dumplings, and my heart melted when they came out and served despite many orders....The wait was long (30 min around 1:30pm), but the feeling I got was the loving hospitality of a family member. It's against my best interest to say this...but if they raised their prices 10-15%, while keeping everything else the same, i'd still come back...again and again. The drive from Vancouver would be worth it. Thank you for serving up such kind loving food! read more

We stopped here spontaneously the other night while walking by the food carts. We ordered a number of vegan items including a shiitake vegetable soup, vegetable chow mein, szechuan tofu and veggies, and garlic broccoli. A young woman took our order...perhaps the chef's daughter? She was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was organized and handled the order, payment, and packaging up the order like a professional. I'm a sucker for friendly service and both the chef and "staff" were very courteous and kind. Besides that, the food was fresh, delicious and priced right. I appreciated that I didn't feel over salted or greasy after eating which can often happen with take-out. When you go, anticipate a wait-time, especially if there are orders ahead of you. We couldn't believe how relatively fast this cart was when we thought about the orders before us and all the different dishes being prepared. I'm so excited to have a vegetarian Chinese place near my home (Lombard/Ivanhoe carts in St Johns)! On my first visit, the food was very good. For starters, we had both the mushroom egg drop soup the tomato tofu egg drop. The mushroom is a basic egg drop, and it was very nice in its simplicity. It's been a decade since I've had normal (chicken stock) egg drop, but this had a more subtle but also more natural flavor than I recall. I was skeptical of the tomato egg drop, but WOW! It has scallions and ginger, and makes the flavor different but amazing. Highly recommend. Entrees were the Homestyle tofu and the Ma Po tofu. Homestyle was very tasty, lots of well prepared veggies. The ma po was very spicy, and really the only thing that didn't impress me. Not the depth of flavor I am used to with that dish. All in all, can't wait to go back. read more

This a great food truck for Chinese food in a hard to find Chinese food area. When we are in the mood for Chinese we walk on up here. We are creatures of habit when it comes to Chinese so our usual order is: General Tso chicken, Chow mein with chicken, and an order of fried rice. They give you really nice portions. The chow mein is probably my favorite dish that we get. Really good flavor. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is the general Tso chicken usually isn't as crispy (but probably better for you) than I've had in other cities, and I feel like the fried rice could use just a little more flavor, if I'm being picky. Overall if you're looking for some solid Chinese food, you will find it here in a convenient spot with quick service. read more

Nice and slightly crispy Mongolian "Beef" mock meat. It's plenty spicy without asking for extra spice. If you ask for extra spice it will be really spicy! Nice portion and if you eat there they serve on a ceramic plate with a metal fork or chop sticks. They bring it to your table when it's ready and even check on you by your table to see if you'd like a bit more white rice or anything else. Amazing service for a food truck! Love this place! Always fast service and great food. They're generous with their broccoli, which I really appreciate. Most places give you tiny little overcooked pieces of broccoli in the beef and broccoli. Not here though, large, perfectly cooked pieces, with just enough crunch. The ginger tofu is also amazing. Very good food served in large portions. The veggie pot stickers (6 per order) were among the best I have ever had. Plump and stuffed with veggies, with an exterior well crisped in all the right places. The Singapore noodles seemed to never end (that's a good thing). Don't expect fast preparation. The chef took the time and care to prepare our food well and to order (we asked for our noodles not spicy). Outside seating is well shaded. I ate here on a mid July Wednesday afternoon, so my daughter and I were the only customers. I suspect the place may get packed on the weekend as there is another food stand in the same place and I hear there is live Jazz on a small stage on Sundays. read more

Wow, SO happy to have moved in down the street from Uncle Tsang's. I am half Chinese and am happy to report that this place satisfies. I was a little skeptical at first because some of the Yelp reviews made it seem like an American-Chinese type place (such places are often terrible). Yeah, they serve General Tso's chicken, but their food is fresh, hot, and delicious. Perfectly seasoned to satisfy! Appetizers are cheap and generous. We enjoyed their salt and pepper shrimp, perfectly crispy. We gushed over the fried eggplant (only $4!). Oh my gosh, my husband and I LOVE their soups. I have eaten a LOT of egg drop soup and theirs is easily one of the best. The hot and sour soup is also great. Oh, I have to mention their potstickers. They are ENORMOUS and cooked to perfection. Seriously, biggest potstickers ever. I like the chicken ones. They serve them with chili oil and a perfect dipping sauce. The chow mein is tasty, as well as the Dandan noodles. I can't wait to try the fried rice! You can eat like a king here with very little money. The entrees are big enough to split. The people running the truck are so very friendly and kind.
