Cute little cafe tucked away in the TL! The location is pretty unassuming, so if you're in the area, it's worth stopping by. I was greeted upon arrival and received friendly service throughout my visit. They offer a nice variety of drinks and breakfast items, making it a convenient spot for anyone working near City Hall. I tried the Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte and the Einspanner. Both were enjoyable, nothing to complain about, but neither stood out as particularly memorable. The two drinks came out to about $17, and I didn't notice an option to leave a tip! I'd definitely come back to try one of their smoothies next time. Cheers! read more

This is a great little coffee shop tucked away near the Civic Center. To my knowledge, this is the closest espresso to the Federal Building. The coffee is good and the staff are friendly. The food is also good. The main downside is the lack of seating and the fact that this is in the tenderloin. read more

really friendly barista, we chatted quite a bit! I wish the menu had prices, but loved that there were lots of seasonal and specialty drinks. I got the strawberry matcha ($8.96 post tax) which is quite pricey compared to other spots. the matcha is from LA and by itself was decent but I wish there was more compared to the amount of milk. the strawberry was yummy, and not too much so it wasn't too sweet. the coffee is from la cabra so I'll come back to try other drinks! read more

This is a fantastic cafe so close to City Hall! I will be coming here every time I'm in the area. The specialty lattes like strawberry matcha, espresso tonic, and lavender latte are well-prepared and delicious. I also tried the Everything Bagel Sandwich that was so filling. The owner is really dedicated to his craft and grew up in the City. I can't wait to see what other seasonal drinks he will come up with. The space is small with a small counter next to the window, so it's great for grab-and-go. Definitely worth the visit! read more

What a lovely cafe! It's attached to the .... not-so-great hotel we stayed at next door (Embassy Hotel, please avoid) - but this was a gem. A tiny little hole in the wall (but accessible!) and the baristas were very nice. Sadly, not open on Sundays. The food is basic but tasty, and the coffee was just superb! read more

Hole in the wall coffee shop with smoothies and hot drinks. Stopped by for a quick caffeine break on our way to the Golden Gate Bridge and ordered a latte and a blueberry loaf. There's a couple of counter seats but it's a small place so most people who came opted for takeout. The employee helping us was very nice and helpful. Came here by chance looking for a bagel because my normal spot wasn't open yet. Just left about 10 minutes ago and had to leave a well deserved review before I get caught up in the day! I love this local made coffee spot. I often come for their matcha tea latte and a bagel sandwich! The sandwiches are delicious and knowing I'm making a purchase thru a sf grown individual makes me happy! Shout out to john o Connell high tho I went to bal! The best coffee shop in sf! The coffee is always amazing and the staff makes it even better! Always my go to spot when I'm in the area. The owner, Leo, is so welcoming and brings the community together through his coffee and conversation. The coffee is always perfectly made and they're always willing to make adjustments to fit your liking. I normally get the unexpected era drink but recently Leo added a pumpkin spiced cold foam which is so yummy! Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area and getting to know Leo! read more

Stopped by today for an Iced Rose Latte with Oat Milk and a croissant. Both were tasty. The croissant was all warmed up for me and the Rose Latte was pretty with this pink hue. The Rose latte was a perfect balance of flavored coffee. The rose aspect of it was not over powering at all. Really cool space for location! I go here twice a week! A niche coffee stop right next to the hotel. You get what you pay for and I enjoy either the chai oat latte or oat matcha latte, with order of oats, raisins, and bananas. Definitely a bang for your buck if you want a quick nice coffee and something to nibble on. The baristas are lovely as well! quick service and always much help! See ya soon! read more

Small locally-owned, hole-in-the-wall watering hole for great coffee on the end of Polk St that's closer to Market St near the courthouse, I love the care and attention-to-detail service put into each cup of coffee from Unexpectedera. Dang what an unexpected coffee shop with the most appropriate name and now I know why. These people don't mess around. Met the owner Leo and Sis and they are both amazing. Caring, kind people pouring the heart and love into every cup and the flavor of the coffee shows. The neighborhood is coming along but not there yet so nice to have a warm cup off coffee to make it all feel better. Worth going out of your way (yep I said it) to come here and grab a great cup in this small cozy cafe. Support them and help another persons dream, who spent the time to learn and perfect the art of coffee making for all of us snobby annoying coffee drinkers, succeed. read more

I come to San Fran every week for school and my building doesn't open until 8 so I usually come in for a pastry. They do not have hours of operation posted so they come in various times before 8. Today I got a smoothie and all their smoothies come with Almond Milk SILK. I can only drink the regular almond milk. I did not ask before I ordered so when I went back to exchange it they didn't have any other replacements, the woman at the counter asked me to pay to remake one with water. I asked for a refund of $7 and she said she would have to get in contact with the manager. So I'm stuck with an allergic reaction and no breakfast. Yeah, I won't be coming back here. read more

Braved walking down to this tiny cafe off the lobby of a hotel in the Tenderloin while my husband was in surgery. Had an excellent cardamon latte and was able to work at the counter with a front row seat to the unfolding Tenderloin morning traffic (people and vehicles). Friendly service. read more

We stopped by here for an early afternoon coffee. The store is cozy and relatively small; there are like 3-4 seats along the wall for you to sit at! They don't have specialty drinks, so I just got a cappuccino. It was honestly super delicious; very flavorful, but also balanced. Not too bitter or dark, and quite creamy as well. Since there's not a place to hang out or any special drinks, I don't see myself going out of my way to come back. If I'm in the area and craving coffee though, will definitely make a stop! read more

I am not one to use yelp. I think some people have a weird sense of entitlement. I will say, though, it would've been a huge disservice not to give Leo the credit he deserves. This man is so inviting and goddamn cool! He took the time to ask us about ourselves and tell us about him, too! He is the definition of hospitality and I am very honored to have met him. The iced chai and dirty chai I got was flawless! Nice, concentrated Chai flavor with no bullshit. My croissant was top tier, flaky and buttery with a decadent banana filling! I will be stopping by on my city visits just to say hi. This is arguably one of the best cafes in SF. Thanks for the love, Leo! See you again soon! I ordered the matchazuke 4.5/5 and the matcha latte 4/5 and they were both delicious. The matchazuke was perfectly savory, each bite packed full of umami. The piece of salmon was seasoned nicely, not too salty and paired perfectly with the matcha. The matcha broth was so comforting, you could taste the bonito dashi they used to make it. I was worried the portion would be too small but it was pretty filling! The matcha latte had a beautiful deep green color and was creamy and not too sweet. I did noticed that it was a little grainy, which was the only thing I didnt like about this experience. My partner ordered a hojicha latte and said it was a 5/5 and it's her new favorite place to get hojicha latte in SF. I would definitely come back and try more of their menu. I'm eyeing that matcha silk pie!

I tried the hojicha with strawberry. The strawberry paired nicely with the hojicha without overpowering it. The hojicha was nutty and earthy. There is a line to order for takeout in the restaurant and pick up is outside through a window.

Before long, the barista pumps up the volume, increasing higher and higher every 5 minutes or so, as if to signal to us that our time was up. I asked her to turn down the volume, which she tuned down from an 11 to a 7, but minutes later it continued to creep up, like the snooze setting of an alarm clock coaxing you to wake up - except in this case, to get out. Ultimately, the volume got unbearable and we finally threw in the towel and got out of there to let the barista enjoy her music. This place is literally the definition of don't judge a book by it's cover!! As I sat here with my wife I notice some people are skeptical of coming in! I don't know if it's because of the neighborhood or what! I find it funny because Brenda's Soul food and Son & Garden are literally up the block no seems to mind waiting outside in this neighborhood. Overall this place has great service, great coffee, great tunes in other words you won't regret checking them out. Peets and Starbucks was my go to for coffee but I don't think it's comparable to this place. I just found my new favorite coffee shop! read more

I needed a morning pick me up and was intrigued by the cold fashioned on the menu. I hesitated since the price for the coffee was $8.50 but decided to go for it. Where else can I get an old fashioned-inspired coffee drink? It came with bitters and an orange peel to top. It was anything but good. The drink itself just looked like iced black coffee with a small orange slice (see pic). It also tasted just like black coffee accented with bitters and notes of cherry, which made it not good at all. Unless this is a popular drink, SPRO may want to consider removing this from their menu. Although my first visit didn't end with a coffee I enjoyed, there are a lot of other options on the menu I'd be interested in coming back to try.
