This is a fantastic cafe so close to City Hall! I will be coming here every time I'm in the area. The specialty lattes like strawberry matcha, espresso tonic, and lavender latte are well-prepared and delicious. I also tried the Everything Bagel Sandwich that was so filling. The owner is really dedicated to his craft and grew up in the City. I can't wait to see what other seasonal drinks he will come up with. The space is small with a small counter next to the window, so it's great for grab-and-go. Definitely worth the visit! read more

What a lovely cafe! It's attached to the .... not-so-great hotel we stayed at next door (Embassy Hotel, please avoid) - but this was a gem. Hole in the wall coffee shop with smoothies and hot drinks. Stopped by for a quick caffeine break on our way to the Golden Gate Bridge and ordered a latte and a blueberry loaf. There's a couple of counter seats but it's a small place so most people who came opted for takeout. The employee helping us was very nice and helpful. Came here by chance looking for a bagel because my normal spot wasn't open yet. Just left about 10 minutes ago and had to leave a well deserved review before I get caught up in the day! I love this local made coffee spot. I often come for their matcha tea latte and a bagel sandwich! The sandwiches are delicious and knowing I'm making a purchase thru a sf grown individual makes me happy! Shout out to john o Connell high tho I went to bal! Awesome stellar homie service and great location near my work! Great interior and lettering too! I love this spot and am a regular! The best coffee shop in sf! The coffee is always amazing and the staff makes it even better! Always my go to spot when I'm in the area. The owner, Leo, is so welcoming and brings the community together through his coffee and conversation. The coffee is always perfectly made and they're always willing to make adjustments to fit your liking. I normally get the unexpected era drink but recently Leo added a pumpkin spiced cold foam which is so yummy! Definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area and getting to know Leo! read more

Stopped by today for an Iced Rose Latte with Oat Milk and a croissant. Both were tasty. The croissant was all warmed up for me and the Rose Latte was pretty with this pink hue. The Rose latte was a perfect balance of flavored coffee. The rose aspect of it was not over powering at all. Really cool space for location! I go here twice a week! A niche coffee stop right next to the hotel. You get what you pay for and I enjoy either the chai oat latte or oat matcha latte, with order of oats, raisins, and bananas. Small locally-owned, hole-in-the-wall watering hole for great coffee on the end of Polk St that's closer to Market St near the courthouse, I love the care and attention-to-detail service put into each cup of coffee from Unexpectedera. Dang what an unexpected coffee shop with the most appropriate name and now I know why. These people don't mess around. Met the owner Leo and Sis and they are both amazing. Caring, kind people pouring the heart and love into every cup and the flavor of the coffee shows. The neighborhood is coming along but not there yet so nice to have a warm cup off coffee to make it all feel better. Worth going out of your way (yep I said it) to come here and grab a great cup in this small cozy cafe. Support them and help another persons dream, who spent the time to learn and perfect the art of coffee making for all of us snobby annoying coffee drinkers, succeed. read more

Braved walking down to this tiny cafe off the lobby of a hotel in the Tenderloin while my husband was in surgery. Had an excellent cardamon latte and was able to work at the counter with a front row seat to the unfolding Tenderloin morning traffic (people and vehicles). Friendly service. read more

Came here right after a wedding at city hall and was blown away. We ordered the honey cortado, café de olla, and latte. Service was great and quick even though we had a group of 8 come in. We stopped by here for an early afternoon coffee. The store is cozy and relatively small; there are like 3-4 seats along the wall for you to sit at! They don't have specialty drinks, so I just got a cappuccino. It was honestly super delicious; very flavorful, but also balanced. Not too bitter or dark, and quite creamy as well. Since there's not a place to hang out or any special drinks, I don't see myself going out of my way to come back. If I'm in the area and craving coffee though, will definitely make a stop! read more

I am not one to use yelp. I think some people have a weird sense of entitlement. I will say, though, it would've been a huge disservice not to give Leo the credit he deserves. This man is so inviting and goddamn cool! He took the time to ask us about ourselves and tell us about him, too! He is the definition of hospitality and I am very honored to have met him. The iced chai and dirty chai I got was flawless! Nice, concentrated Chai flavor with no bullshit. My croissant was top tier, flaky and buttery with a decadent banana filling! I will be stopping by on my city visits just to say hi. This is arguably one of the best cafes in SF. Thanks for the love, Leo! See you again soon! I come to San Fran every week for school and my building doesn't open until 8 so I usually come in for a pastry. They do not have hours of operation posted so they come in various times before 8. Today I got a smoothie and all their smoothies come with Almond Milk SILK. I can only drink the regular almond milk. I did not ask before I ordered so when I went back to exchange it they didn't have any other replacements, the woman at the counter asked me to pay to remake one with water. I asked for a refund of $7 and she said she would have to get in contact with the manager. So I'm stuck with an allergic reaction and no breakfast. Yeah, I won't be coming back here. read more

Unexpected Era is clearly a local mom and pop shop that I would come and support again. A hole-in-the-wall coffee shop with friendly staff, good quality drinks, and friendly staff. The owners clearly did their research on how to make a good drink. The matcha is legit and is made with a proper japanese matcha whisk. The cardamom latte is also quite pleasant It would be helpful to add the melted agave and expresso blend after the milk and ice instead of before to incorporate the syrup with the milk more easily. Other than that this was a solid cafe I wouldn't hesitate to go to again--just watch your step coming in! read more

My girlfriend and I went and ordered the cardamon latte and the orange blossom espresso tonic. Both drinks were delightful along with the breakfast bagel and cookie dough croissant. Coffee is great and staff is always super welcoming and have attention to detail. I always stop in for a bag of freshly roasted beans and doing so gets you a free cup of drip coffee or cold brew. The only thing that is slightly inconvenient is the constantly long line to order. On the bright side once you order you get your drink right away regardless of what you order. It's a solid assembly line operation they got going. Especially in my case when I typically only get a bag of beans to-go I wonder if they could change the system to allow me to forgo the line altogether, that would be a pleasant change. Anyways I highly recommend this coffee shop! High quality all the way around!

That was a tall glass of milk. The light colored one is whole milk, and the darker one was with oat milk. They both didn't have a coffee taste so I was super disappointed. The cup sizes should be smaller for this or you need to redo the ratios. ): I have their beans at home and the beans are 10/10 though! Aesthetic cafe with decent amount of seating. They only allow service dogs and support animals.

Walking through the West Mall in Japan Center Mall I landed at Maruwu Seicha. On a Spring sunny stroll in San Francisco in Japantown I ended up planted in line at Maruwu Seicha for some premium matcha. You will see different varieties of matcha like the pistachio matcha latte along with their strawberry matcha latte . They also serve matcha gelato and classic matcha latte with soft serve. You can order the matcha soft serve on a flakey cone like some in SF. I decided to try their purple yam drink also known as the Hawaiian Ube Matcha latte Max. It was refreshing and not too sweet and it had a smooth taste. I then ordered the cheese tart. It was a little cheesy but a bit flakey like some in SF ( It's national cheese day). It was also savory and tasty. I then had to try their Ube tart. The purple tart was a bit sweet and a was deliciousness and a bit creamy and flakey. Overall a great place to enjoy some authentic matcha. On a Spring stroll in the sun with Don Juan de la matcha in San Francisco walking on Post street past "Mount Zion" a few blocks over in the Japan Center is matcha worth "tryin "and it got good authentic matcha I ain't "lying "and it has Ube flavor that's "Hawaiian" The atmosphere at the Japan Center is "magnetic" come get the the real matcha which is premium and "authentic" and not med like in mediocre which is "generic"a few sips of the Maruwu Seicha matcha you will start feeling "energetic "

There is a kiosk to order - I ordered the strawberry matcha with 0% sweet The matcha was strong and good quality, strawberry was delicious and complimented the matcha well, since it was sweet. This was probably the best matcha I've had so far in the Bay Area There are tables outside the store to sit and enjoy your drink. Overall a good find! Definitely recommend going here for good quality matcha
