Ambiance: Came here with a big party and enjoyed the atmosphere. They do a good job of using mixed textures and materials so it has a upscale feel while still being casual and relaxed environment. The tables are generously spaced and the music obtrusive so it was very easy to have a conversation across the table without yelling. Our server was excellent, making helpful recommendations and making sure drinks were refilled. Food: We shared their two poutine offerings and found both very enjoyable. The pastrimi one is obviously heartier and more savory but the chiliquiles one was also very good with a brighter tangier sauce. The fries have a little crisp to them but have more of that frites texture than your standard american fry. Many of us got the lamb shank and I was the odd one out who wasn't a big fan. The dish itself is well composed with a creamy corn fundido, flavorful tomatillo salsa, and pickled onions all complementing each other extremely well. I would have ordered the fundido as entire side-dish if it was available, it was that good. Texturally, the lamb was perfectly cooked and easily pulled from the shank into bite-sized pieces. The only thing that ruined my experience was the noticeable gamey-ness of the lamb which I'm not normally sensitive to as I eat goat and lamb on most menus I find it on. Again, none of the other 5 people who got the dish seemed to notice so maybe it was just a fluke. Despite me not liking the lamb, I liked everything else about the restaurant. Their sauces in particular are impeccable, their portions are appropriate for the price, their preparation of the ingredients equally superb. They impressed me with everything besides the lamb flavor that I would gladly come back again and try other things on their menu. read more

We came here for dinner recently and had an amazing experience and I'm blown away! I love the cozy atmosphere and felt very comfortable in the big couch like booths. We came for devour so I got the wedge, the wood fired salmon I forgot to take a picture of because I was ready to dig in, and this amazing Chocolate Terrine dessert too! My boyfriend got the lamb meatballs and the spare rib and both were mouth watering delicious. I love all Cunningham restaurants and we will definitely return here! Just off of Massachusetts Ave, a super cute street filled with amazing shops and restaurants, is this modern and hip restaurant that my friend and I dined at for our one night in Indy earlier this year. Union 50's space is definitely super impressive, both inside and outside. It feels very sleek and modern, while also being inviting and we both thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance. The food was pretty good and they definitely had a menu that was trying to be more upscale and some of the dishes pulled it off, while others didn't. We saw a lot of items on the menu that were unique and that you might not normally find at a restaurant, so that was our main appeal in coming here over other spots. Of all the unique things we tried, everything was solid, but nothing majorly stood out to us. Because of this, I probably wouldn't come back here next time I'm in Indy, additionally because Indy does just have such a spectacular food scene as well so there's so many other spots to try, but I also do not regret my meal here and had a great time. I love coming to this spot on a late night to decompress. This spot you will miss if you are not looking for it; it is kind of ducked off and not fully on Mass Ave. My favorite food to get is either the wings with fries or the gnocchi. I will say I mostly come for the drinks. The mixologists are always on point! They change up the drinks seasonal although you can find a few that stay in rotation on the menu. Some nights you might wander in and the place is completely packed plus live music. Other nights you will find it a little slower with mellow music playing in the background. This was my first experience dining at Union 50. We came with a group of friends and had a lovely time. The ambiance is cozy and inviting. Felt like a great place for a date night but also can accommodate for small groups and could even see it being a good spot to take business clients out to dinner as well. Very versatile! Granted, it was a Saturday night and it was packed-- so can definitely understand how things can tend to be a bit slower during busy weekend nights during prime time. I definitely enjoyed the food and the cocktails were tasty! I had the seasonal tequila drink-- it was very good! To be honest, I was a bit more impressed with the appetizers/sides and shared plates than the main courses. I opted for the sticky chicken wings which were good, but nothing special. I felt like the menu had a bit too much variety and was trying to cover too many types of food. From meatloaf to octopus, to shrimp and grits to king salmon, I just feel like it's a little all over the place in my opinion in addition to being a tad pricey. However, the hand cut fries were absolutely a standout, I highly recommend the ones with duck fat and rosemary. Wasn't sure what to expect but they were delicious! I have visited Union 50 a handful of times and always have an amazing experience. My family are visiting from the UK for the holidays and I decided to take them there for dinner on NYE. I was able to secure a reservation the day before via Open Table which was lucky, and we arrived early (730 for a 8pm reservation) and were seated right away. I have tried walking in previously and have seen 90 minute waits so this was a happy surprise. Our server was so sweet, attentive, and happy! This has been my experience every other time I have dined here also. The ambience of the restaurant is warm and cozy, but still modern. The menu has something for everyone at multiple price points. While it was a little busy night, service was slow and we had to wait almost 20 minutes for the check to arrive after we asked. We also ordered the special for the day and when the meal was delivered our entree was switched to a different item without checking in with us. Union 50 had been on my list of places to try for a while now, and with a show at the Murat last weekend, it was finally time. Our party showed up a bit early but the restaurant wasn't busy so they were able to quickly seat us outside. The weather was perfect for outdoor dining and the Union 50 patio was lovely. We ended up ordering a bunch of different items and sharing most of them. The gnocchi was excellent- tons of flavor in every bite. We enjoyed a cheese plate with extra bread - delicious! Another favorite was the fries. We tried both the duck fat and the truffle and the truffle was the clear winner. Add a few drinks and it was a wonderful feast! Had a chance to experience one of the premier restaurants downtown. Not well known but a must if you get the opportunity. A bit of a challenge of your going at night and allow extra time for parking. Once you get through those obstacles you are set for an evening that will never forget. Once inside the ambience was undeniable. This is definitely a romantic setting that will add to the enjoyment. I went straight in and ordered the roast duck. I was a bit surprised as I don't see this on a lot of restaurant menus. One of the best decisions I made. The duck was seasoned and soft. LOVE IT. I love coming to Union 50 and can't believe I haven't left a review yet! The food - as usual - was delicious. My friends and I dined here before going to a concert nearby. I ordered the Duck Duck and it was so good that all my friends wanted some. It was cooked perfectly and did not have a scent that usually comes with duck dishes (at least, compared to the ones I've had in the past). My husband had the lamb and it was good, but he did say it had a slight gamey taste but not so much that he couldn't enjoy - he loved the flavors of the dish, but was just too much to eat it all - but we all shared :) The ambience and service is always great here. Union 50 is one of my favorite bars downtown Indianapolis! I love the slightly industrial urban vibe inside and their clever drink menu. Currently, they are combining Dolly, Parton and Salvador Dali inspired drinks. It's hilarious. Last night we sampled the Devour Indy menu and it was perfect. Since there were two of us, we split the appetizers which were a wedge salad and a burrata. From the five entrées offered, I chose the salmon and my partner chose the short ribs and both were delicious. And the desserts were a caramel cream leche cake and a chocolate flourless torte like cake on a cookie crust! I don't think I need to tell you how delicious those were. As soon as we walked in I thought what a cute stylish rustic barn house...it was absolutely beautiful in there and nothing like I've ever seen in Indianapolis. As soon as I read the limited menu I could tell it was a Cunningham group restaurant (I love livery and blue burger). They're known for themed restaurants and a limited but interesting menu. One of the guests raved about the lamb shank which the waiter described as long cooked. The majority of my table ordered it so I decided to try it as well and those lamb shanks melted right in my mouth, it had the consistency of a nice slow cooked roast and I really enjoyed it. The table shared some truffle fries served with a chipotle bbq on the side and a garlic aioli that was soooooo good!! Another guest at the table ordered duck and I'd never tried duck before so she gave me a bite. The duck was very chewy and not something I'd order on my own. Went to Union 50 with one of my girlfriends the other day for the first time and it exceeded my expectations! The food here is a little pricey, but so worth it in terms of portion and quality! We had some truffle fries, chocolate terrine, and mocktails. Everything was so delicious and filling, but my favorite would have to be the truffle fries! I would say these are the best fries I've had in Indy!!! The restaurant is dimly lit and a bit upscale. It's quite spacious and there's bar seating, tables, and mixed table/booth seating. Also, there's a beautiful patio that would be great to enjoy in the warmer months! The service was also good--the server was kind and checked up on us a few times throughout the night. I got the King Salmon and my partner got the Tomahawk Pork Chop, the salmon didn't have much flavor but if you add a side of rice it brings it the meal together. The Tomahawk Pork chop was amazing, my partner let me have a few bites and it was nice and tender, good quality meat. For dessert we had the Chocolate Cake with Vanilla ice cream and blueberry drizzle, the blueberry added a burst of savory flavor in your mouth wanting you to order more! It's been a while since I've been here, pre coivd. But the food is always good, and this recent dinner was no exception. (See my 4 star vs 5 star reason below.) I had the "duck duck" with jalapeno blackberry puree, roasted sweet potatoes and brussels. Sooooooo good. The hubs had the pork chop tomahawk with peach bbq sauce. His was (way) too salty for me, but he enjoyed it. For dessert, we had the chocolate terrine which is so rich even between the two of us, we took half home (which I thoroughly enjoyed the next day.) Our server was attentive and pleasant. So really I would give Union 50 a 5 stars, but we were seated in a small two person table basically right when you enter, near the hostess stand. It. Was. Freezing. everytime someone went in or out. I didn't realize this when we first sat down, until after we ordered. (Then it seemed weird to ask to move, so I didn't ask, place was getting more filled by then, too.) Hubs was fine, but I was right in the air path. I put my coat on. So it did impact my meal. Our server was polite, but he was very busy as well. We had the fries, sticky wings, and King salmon. All of the food was finger-licking good. The salmon just melts in your mouth. I really enjoy dining at Cunningham Group establishments and Union 50 has one of my favorite dishes of all times the mushrooms. Although it's been a minute, I've been here twice and loved it both times. They have a nice front patio, indoor seating, and often, live music. Union 50 is located just off of Mass Ave, so while it's in a popular area, it's in a slightly quieter part of the area. I got the pan fried gnocchi: wood-fired San Marzano tomato, herbed mascarpone, swiss chard, crushed red pepper, and trumpet mushroom. It was delicious! While it was a small, curated dish, it was more filling than I would've expected. I'd definitely get it again! Now as I read the menu again, I want to come back for the mussels or salmon. They sound soooooo good. Expect to pay about $20-$35 for a meal, without drinks. It's a place we'd go for a special occasion, but know that the price is justified by the wonderful food quality. As soon as you walk through the heavy, metal doors, you feel the vibe. It's rustic and welcoming. Cool and relaxed. We came to celebrate a birthday. There were 7 in our party and we were seated at a large, square table that rolled away from the bench seats, making it easy to get comfortable. Our waitress was very upbeat and friendly.
