I would recommend reservations on event nights as it could fill up even though it's fairly large inside with a long bar. The small plates we tried were the toast + jam which has shrimp on it and the kimchi meatloaf. The toast was crunchy and interesting but I would absolutely eat the meatloaf again. It was extremely tender and melted in your mouth. The "ketchup" sauce was tangy and elevated. It came with these potato puff things that were a nice compliment. I ordered the swordfish that came with dirty rice. Honestly the most tender flaky swordfish I've had in a long time. The rice was a nice spicy addition. 10/10 for the fish. The mushrooms how do you screw up mushrooms, those were chewy as well and tasted unwashed and the best way I could describe it was really earthy. The bone marrow was the worst I've ever had, flavorless, burnt so hard it crusted so hard over areas making it inedible on some parts, I usually eat bone marrow with some tortillas or package style buns, but these came as is with some garnish and just lacked technique and flavor, disappointed greatly. The best thing we had was their charred artisan bread and liquor drinks, Yup I said bread. Oh yeah they do plate their bad food very beautifully. We had the gnocchi, toast and jam, wild mushrooms, pastrami poutine, and roasted bone marrow. After wanting to try this cute gastropub for the last few years, I finally had the time to give it a shot tonight, and I loved it!! I was there with a few foodie friends, and we made the decision to split everything rather than order our own courses, and that was definitely the right decision. There are too many good items on the menu to limit yourself. Share with the table. We started off with some cocktails, and they were all delicious, although my favorite was the "I'm a cool mom", which had mint and cucumber. So refreshing for this muggy summer day. We also decided to get the grand cheese board, which was pretty epic. The chefs choice cheeses included a Camembert and a really interesting habanero cheese that was not for the faint of heart. I really appreciated the wide variety of accoutrement that went with the board, and the bread selection was varied. This was probably my favorite part of the meal. Coming in a close second was the chilequiles poutine. Oh my god, so good. I literally wanted to lick the bowl after we ate all of the fries out of the poutine. I wished it was a little spicier, but it was so flavorful that I still really enjoyed it. We also split the gnocchi (solid) the duck (a little overdone, and they didn't ask for a temp, but overall really nicely seasoned) and the chicken wings. the wings were outstanding and spicy. This is one of the best CRG restaurants that I have been to (second to Mesh possibly). The place is huge inside, and can definitely accommodate large groups (although you should probably still call ahead). I have been here for birthday parties, work christmas dinners, and for dinner when family is in town. I have never had anything that I don't like. First, their cocktail and beer offerings have something for everyone. I have loved every cocktail I have gotten, and when I am not feeling in a cocktail mood, they have sour beers (my beer of choice, which not everyone carries). To start every meal, I always recommend the fries with as many dipping sauces as you are willing to pay for. I have tried all 4 varietals of the fries and every dipping sauce they have- you absolutely cannot go wrong with an combination of them. I always like the duck fat and rosemary fries with the garlic-truffle aioli and the ketchup, but the manchego bacon fries with queso is a favorite amongst the group as well. Several times I have been here, I am usually good to just have fries and a smaller plate (bistro plates). They tend to be a fair price (Under $20) and yet still leave me fairly full. Not overly stuffed, but not still hungry either. I have gotten the beef tartar and the Kimchi meatloaf. Both were amazing, interesting dishes that I do not see many other places. If you have ever been curious about beef tartar (raw beef with an egg on top), this is the place to try it. I trust their ability to make good food and serve it safely. The kimchi meatloaf came with these huge bread puffs that were great to eat it with. But of course the one thing I always recommend to anyone, and the thing I get every time I come here hungry for dinner, is the duck. It is so flavorful and filling, very tender, and comes with great accompaniments on the plate. It truly feels like a fancy dinner and is worth the price. I have sat on the patio, in the back party room, and in the regular dining room. Every place is visually interesting, and the room is large enough to allow it to not get too loud inside so you can still talk. I went one night, and it was not super busy yet; the bartender came over and talked about an old-fashioned sage drink. Definitely got a nice size portions for it to be the devour menu. I loved that the manager, Kayla, was assisting the staff with service and clearing tables. I've had many recommendations to give Union 50 a try and I'm definitely glad I did! It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside space is gorgeous with plenty of seating. There is also a cute outdoor patio area. We loved our server, Raquel, who made us feel immediately welcomed and did a great job in explaining the menu to us. There was plenty to choose from including charcuterie boards, hand-cut fries, small plates, medium plates, and large plates. For starters to share, we opted for fries. There were different styles and sauces that came with the hand cut fries and we decided to get the truffle oil fries w/espresso-chipotle BBQ sauce and garlic-truffle aioli. The fries were perfectly crispy, salted, with notes of truffle. Both sauces were delicious, but the garlic-truffle aioli was chef's kiss... I want to put that sauce on everything! For our second starter, we got the wood-fired wild mushrooms and subbed tofu for the potato-bacon terrine. The mushrooms were SO flavorful and I loved the romesco sauce that it came with. They didn't skimp on the mushrooms and the wood fire imparted the perfect amount of smokiness to the overall dish. This was by far the stand out dish of the night for me. For my main, I went with the lamb shank which was paired with a corn fundito (essentially a cheese dip). Overall, the lamb was tender, juicy, and flavorful, but I thought the fundito made the overall dish too heavy. The dish could have also benefitted from some more texture, as the combination of braised lamb, melted cheese, and salsa all ended up erring on the "mushy" side. There were some pickled red onions on top, but I wish there was more of that. I think a salad and something with a little more acid/texture would have made the dish better for me. My partner got the pork chop, which was cooked very well with a side of delicious potato pave. I loved the parsnip puree and the peach BBQ sauce that paired perfectly with the pork chop. It was a huge slab of pork that definitely left us fulfilled! One small complaint was that we were seated pretty closely to another group, which we thought was a bit odd since there were so many other empty tables and the restaurant was huge. Not a big deal, just felt a little uncomfortable being within 4 feet of another group (especially still being in the COVID era). For a dinner date or for celebrating a special occasion, Union 50 is a spot that will make your night special but also won't break the bank. We got reservations here for 15 for my friends birthday! It was fantastic. The waiters were all super accommodating and sat us all together at a large long table in the back room. This is a great spot to host a celebration, you basically have a private spot for your party. I got the "duck duck", and WOW. I had never even thought to try duck before, but I'm kind of hooked. It was so flavorful and tender, almost reminded me of a medium steak. I would highly recommend this dish! For the main course we got the chicken and waffles and the Branzino. Both were delish! The waffle was so fluffy and light. A group of friends and I decided to go here a couple of weeks ago. We made some last-minute reservations and we were able to get in with 10 people at 8:45 PM! This was my second time going there and it did not disappoint. We all started with drinks and some of my friends got their specialty cocktails and they all raved about them. I just stuck to the Hendricks and tonic and they have really good pours! The first time I went there I got the Kimchi Meatloaf and it was absolutely amazing! I wouldn't normally think that meatloaf would be fine dining, but they have created an awesome dish here! The last time I went I got the Duck-Duck, I had only had duck one time before and this was phenomenal. It came with a Jalapeno-Blackberry puree and it was to die for! This along with the sweet potatoes and Brussel sprouts combined to create an awesome flavor in every bite! I ended the evening with the Chocolate Terrine and it was amazing! A definite 5 star recommend! This place is amazing! One of the best meals I've ever had! The chef just be amazing because every flavor we as popping in my mouth! Starting with drinks: My hubby has the sage of enlightenment: this was honestly one of his best drinks of his life he says - the subtle infusion of sage in the whiskey that is so smooth you can't stop sipping with after notes of sage! I couldn't stop going in for his coconut rice with curry sauce - topped off with the chocolate terrine which was so rich and decadant, for all you chocolate fabs out there it does not disappoint & their cheese cake ice cream goes really well with this too! Finally, after over a year in Indy, I was able to try Union 50 for dinner when my parents visited. I had high expectations going in after hearing others reviews and knowing the CRG association, and I can confidently say my expectations were exceeded. The drink menu had an interesting theme to it - it seemed like all the drinks were named in theme with Star Wars. I had a tropical-type I'd run punch, and it was okay. A little too sweet for me, which is saying something since I typically like sweeter drinks. My dad, who is in the wine business, was very impressed with selection on the wine menu, and he, my mom, and my girlfriend really enjoyed the bottle he picked out. For appetizers, we had potato overload: truffle fries and the chilaquiles poutine. Both were great, but the poutine was really exceptional. The meat and sauces that came on top came together very nicely. I could have had that as my meal and been satisfied. For my entree, I had the king salmon, which was served on top of broccolini and a risotto that had shrimp and andouille sausage mixed in. The salmon was cooked perfectly and I really liked the risotto. That risotto would be a terrific stand-alone dish... something to consider, @Union50! My girlfriend and parents really enjoyed their meals, which made me happy that I was able to pick a good restaurant out for their visit.
