Went for dinner before a show at the Fillmore. The location is very convenient. We were sat at the awkward seating in the front against the window. Which might be ok for drinks but for dinner was a little uncomfortable with no back support. They should really reevaluate the seating. The server was attentive but not friendly and a little short. I asked her advice on an entree and she immediately ask if chips were ok so I said well sure and just continued ordering. We had the Bahn Mahi and unlike some of the other posts the mahi was not dry and it was flavorful. I liked the curry mayo and pickles vegetables but it was missing cilantro. It was a bit on the messy side with the sunny side up egg but not bad. We also had the fried chicken sliders the bread seemed old and heated up a second time and almost chewy. read more

Prime spot to eat in downtown Detroit. Great patio with amazing views of Comerica Park. Staff were great, even when it was busy. Can't go wrong with the pizzas. All are amazing. So it's leading into an evening at the Fox or just after a Tiger's game and you want a spot for a cocktail to kickoff or wrap up the evening, this place is in the prime location for such an event. It's cute, it's convenient and it is so "Meh" it kind of makes me sad. I have now gone three times. The first time sitting at the bar after a game waiting too long for a glass of wine. The second time, stopped there prior to the Fox. We were relegated to the "to go" area to order a drink and sent away. We made dinner reservations to go after our show. We ended up canceling, we just felt underwhelmed with our pre event experience. Third time, again after a game. Ordered their bread. Am I crazy or is it a cheese Hot n Ready from a square pan and more expensive? And thank you for no silverware and the paper cocktail napkins when we asked for napkins. Look I dont know what went wrong here. We had a big party of 12, they squeezed us in which was nice. From that point forward I was disappointed. We didnt see appetizers for an entire hour. i guess we had a big party idk, whatever. Our server Sam forgot, one of my orders after that hour late so that was disappointing. Myself and my friend came here to grab a bite to eat before our concert with reservations! We was seated immediately and it was literally next door to the Fox Theater which I loved! We was able to order pretty quickly, I ordered the Warm Acorn Salad which was pretty tasty and filling!! My friend ordered the Smoked Salmon Dip w/ chips and that as well was really tasty, n not overpowering with the taste of salmon!! Both were good choices! Now the only thing I would change is ALL the stems on the greens in my salad but otherwise good! This is literally a great place to go for after a tigers game, or red wings game! It's vibe gives me "sports bar" I would definitely go back when I'm less dressed up but they stayed pretty busy during the hour we was there! I've been here a couple times now and each time I fall even more in love with it. I have only been sat outside or on the first floor before now and it's always really enjoyable. But yesterday, I was sat inside on the third floor! I didn't realize there was so much space, the layout is really dynamic and cool and I had a view Comerica park from a really private and cool corner booth. (Also cool bathrooms for selfies if that's something you're interested in haha) The food is always incredible. I am a huge fan of the steak tartare, but this time I decided to try some new dishes. I was looking forward to the white pizza that had ricotta and arugula because I love those things, but the real star of the show was the chicken pot pie!!! I was not expecting it to be as good as it was, it really stole the show for me. It was recommended by the waiter when the baked tteokbokki was out for the day, so I really appreciate that suggestion! Also I didn't drink this time, but I usually get one of their cocktails because the flavors are really creative and I'm sucker for a unique mojito. I was able to snag a last minute reservation at Union Assembly before a concert at Little Caesar's Arena. Nate and I were running a bit late, so we called and they said not to worry, that they'd hold our table for us, which was nice. We honestly didn't need a reservation at 5 pm on a Tuesday evening, even with multiple events going on in the area. We were seated right away on the patio, with a great view of Comerica Park! I liked the indoor/outdoor seating set up. The inside was nice too, with varied seating and really cozy booths towards the back. We ordered the triple grain salad and fries and dips to split. Our server was super sweet - she apologized for the wait on the food, but it didn't seem like it took that long. The fries were super hot and fresh, and the salad was a good portion to share. The amount of dressing was a little heavy, but the flavors were nice and the grains were perfectly cooked. The feta was listed as vegan but I couldn't tell; it was creamy and delicious. I loved the fries! Sauces and dips are my favorite, so to have three different choices was really fun. The triple pepper aioli was my favorite. Union Assembly is a bit hard for me to rate. It's super convenient when going to a game or the theater downtown Detroit. Literally across the street from Comerica Park and next door to the Fox and the Fillmore. Food was a bit of a let down. The menu is much more sparse than I expected. I don't like menus that have too many items but it seems they could have a few more choices. We got the Disco Fries, Chicken sliders and the wings. Disco fries were tasty but left me with an upset stomach. Just a bit too greasy and the cheese was not creamy but rather hard. The wings were a bit overdone. The chicken sliders were one chicken tender cut into 3 pieces and had more slider bun than chicken. Nothing tasted bad but could have been better The pizzas looked good but didn't try them. The service was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant was clean and had a nice ambiance to it. It's a great place for drinks before a sporting event or an appetizer afterwards. read more

What a cool spot downtown! This place is directly across from Comerica park and so close to the LCA. On the third floor bar, you can literally watch the tigers play from the balcony! Super cool ambience and great place to meet before/after/during any games or events downtown and with large groups. Came prior to wings game for dinner and while it was very busy with fans and they told us the wait would be 45 min we were actually seated much sooner. I'm guessing they overestimated the wait time. They're a couple different "environments" in this place that you can sit in. The place has slightly different energy whether you're upstairs or on the main floor but overall it's really nice. There menu was pretty friendly to most appetites. We ended up getting a Pot pie and an interesting salad they had which escapes me now. That was the perfect balance for us as we decided to split the two dishes between us and it was great. I'd certainly come back again! read more

The portion was pretty large and the dish/flavors were amazing - fries were topped with cheese curds, steak tip gravy, scallions and chili flakes! The salads are very unique, which I love! I ordered the Triple Grain Salad and it was AWESOME! Quinoa, sorghum, brown rice, vegan feta, currants, mint, arugula, cherry tomatoes with a roasted shallot vinaigrette. I had been wanting to go here for a while, but it is always so packed when there are events going on downtown, so when I had a bunch of coworkers in town on a quiet night in the city, it was a perfect opportunity to give it a try. We got off to a bit of a rocky start because several of the drinks we tried to order from the menu were not available, but we were able to find excellent substitutes. We got a couple of orders of the Fries and Dips to start and they were great! I had the Company Chicken Sandwich, which was delicious - very tender and juicy with flavorful sauces! Others in our group tried the burgers and pizza and all were very happy (including the member of our group who is gluten-free and often has trouble finding good options). The other half the people did not get food, but they did try to comp us the meals that we should've received by giving us free desserts in free, french fries, french fries. Anyway, Allison was our server, was very sweet and personable. We started out with the disco fries, which was basically poutine. It was decent. I ordered the white pizza, nice Detroit style pizza (light pillowy crust) topped with ricotta, garlic conditioner, chili flakes, arugula, and a lemon vinaigrette. It was delicious, I ate 2 pieces, it's a 4 piece pizza. It was delicious! My boyfriend ordered the chicken parm sandwich, he thought it was decent, but wouldn't order it again. I was excited to try out this place as I've had it on my list since it opened. I had the Bahn Mi Sandwich. I was very disappointed in it. The fish was overcooked and underseasoned. They tried to mask this screw up with an overload of curry sauce but it did not work. Also, we were seated in the "booth" area near the front. Not sure if the whole restaurant is like this, but their "booths" are simply a 2ft Diameter table where you're both sat on the same side of a round table... not exactly a good seating situation. There was next to no room for anything on the table and you were sitting in a very awkward position trying to face the table itself. Worst seating arrangement I've ever seen at a restaurant. Not that it matters in the quality of the food, but the water glass size was also very small. I drank the whole cup in like 2 sips. I prefer larger glasses to fit larger volumes of water to last longer and actually quench my thirst. My wife got the chicken parmesan. She claimed it was also overcooked and very thin leading to an unsubstantial amount of food. The only saving grace of this restaurant was the French fries. I enjoyed them the most. Great location and service was good but the food was just 'meh'. We got the assembly bread appetizer which wasn't bad, but nothing exciting. I got the cheeseburger. It was over cooked and the bottom of my bun was super hard. My friend got the fried chicken sliders and vegan cauliflower soup. The soup was good but she said the sliders were more fried than chicken. With each getting a drink our bill was over $100 which is too much for a 'meh' meal. I came here before a Tigers game and sat at the bar which had quite a few openings. I like the open kitchen set up and was helped right away. The servers were all friendly. I ordered a margarita and the salmon dip and received all my items within 15 minutes of sitting down. They had a cocktail menu but nothing on there caught my eye. The salmon dip was disappointing. I was expecting the kind of flaky salmon filled dip that I love to get from J. Alexander's but what I got was a heaping bowl of salmon flavored cream cheese. It was fine in small bites but definitely would have had my stomach messed up if I ate a lot of it. The sea salt potato chips it came with were divine though. So crispy and salted perfectly. I believe they are made in house but if not they definitely tasted like it. My only issue with them was some of the chips were not crispy at all and it was very discomfiting when I came across a soft, pliable, stale chip. My margarita was decent, I've bad better and I've had worse. It mainly tasted like it was premade or a mix. read more

I had been wanting to try Union Assembly for a while, so I made reservations for today, when I had tickets for Blue Man Group at the Fox next door. I didn't know there was a Tigers game today so it was pretty packed downtown. I had made a reservation for 4:15pm though and we got in right away; otherwise it would've been a 45-minute wait. The food here is expensive but overall tasty. My boyfriend and I both got cocktails ($11-14 each, on par for the area) and I had the chicken sandwich with fries ($17). He had a mushroom pasta dish ($27) but proteins such as salmon, chicken, etc were an upcharge. The feta dip and UA bread also sounded great but I forgot my Lactaid in the car (Fox doesn't allow purses) so perhaps I'll try those next time. Atmosphere was cool also, it seemed like maybe it used to be a club or something? (Old DJ booth, etc) I'd come back when in the area but wouldn't make a trip to Detroit just for UA. read more

We flagged someone down and he went and got Austin. It was apparent the staff was in the weeds. Austin was excellent and was doing the best he could. He was working many tables. It was unfortunate that they didn't have enough staff. This restaurant has been across from Comerica Park so they should know about needing enough staff. Our food was excellent. Hot and plenty. Very enjoyable meal at union assembly. The environment is very cool and the food tasty. The Mac n Cheese is a classic from their other restaurants and is a must have. The steak I ordered was good.
