Surprising little bakery in S Pasadena. What I really enjoy about this bakery is the savory options. Most bakeries savory options usually end with a ham and cheese croissant, but this bakery has few more options. Our favorite is the spinach and onion croissant. The onions aren't fully caramelized but they are soft and there's still a nice sweetness that comes through. If those are sold out I recommend getting the tomato danish. This is basically a juicy bruschetta on a danish which was excellent because it's savory and a little sweet at the same time. There is also a mushroom option but this is my less favorite. The mushrooms were a little over cooked and rubbery. We had this cold so I'm not sure if it would taste better warm. There are also seasonal tarts, bread puddings, various types of breads as well as other lunch items you can order off the menu. We had the pear tart which was really good, slices of poached pear that was also baked on top of nice pastry tart. Would recommend. The items are on more of the pricey side but it's South Pas and rent can't be cheap and it's a a local family owned spot near a nice park. read more

My favorite baked good here is the mushroom feta danish and the tomato onion danish is good as well. I love the turkey dill sandwiches which are made with fresh bread. The bacon quiche is also one of my favorites. I like to call ahead if I'm ordering a sandwich or quiche. read more

Really good but also very expensive. Union is a small bakery in Pasadena with some of the best pastries I've ever had. The croissants are all flaky and buttery, the scones are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the tarts are equally delicious. My parents have always loved the pastries I bring home from here. At $4-5 per pastry, they're not cheap, but they are very much worth it. The service isn't the friendliest so that's the minus one star, but very worth checking out. read more

A resounding five stars! Their croissants and croissant-like pastries are their specialty (get anything with those light, buttery, flaky layers). I splurged here on an assortment of goodies, as well as two lunch specials (choice of quiche or sandwich, and choice of accompanying salad or soup). My favorites: + **Tomato Tart**: juicy in-season tomato and savory caramelized onions embedded underneath into their signature flaky crust. Acidity of the tomato was perfect with the fats in their pastry! + **Broccoli and Cheese Quiche**: the broccoli cheese part was just a top layer crust, pleasantly surprising me with the creamy smooth egg below (reminiscent of Chinese steamed egg dish, no air bubbles!) They warmed this up for me :') I repeat: anything with the croissant-like crust is a MUST BUY !!! This includes their Ham and Cheese Croissant and Chocolate Croissant. Salad and soup were just aight (p standard, and tbh I prefer more onion-forward tomato soup). No point in making it a "lunch special" unless you're trying to round out your nutrition or get different textures. Every cent was worth - in fact, I plan on coming back here for my last to-go meal in LA.  My partner who grew up a few minutes away from the bakery said it was "good" in his calm demeanor which did not prepare me for how DREAMY this place is! My sister and I decided to check out Union bakery for their croissants on a Saturday morning in late January. There was one person inside so we waited outside until the customer left. We were nicely greeted by the owner not sure. There was array of bread behind him and variety of croissants, pastries, cookies in the glass counter. He also sells sandwiches and coffee drinks too. When we left, there was few people waiting in line. So we had to eat in the car and it was still warm as I took a bite of the buttery, soft, and flaky croissant. Wow how many times have I driven past this place over the years and I've never tried it until today when I was craving a ham & cheese croissant for breakfast? I just went around 9am on a Wednesday and they were out of ham & cheese croissants, but I did get 1 mushroom puff pastry, 1 tomato puff pastry and a currants & raisins scone and everything was delicious, great flavors and fresh. I would go back and try other items! The only thing to note is that it is a bit pricy - $6 each for the square puff pastries, which are pretty good sizes, and the scone was $3.75. They also are offering pies for Thanksgiving for $40 each! Grateful to have been able to try Union Bakery and that it was really good, would recommend! read more

Stopped by yesterday afternoon for lunch. We ordered the lunch special (broccoli/cheese quiche and tomato soup) and another quiche (spinach/onion). I had the quiche warmed but I wish the crust was a little crispier, it would've made for a more pleasant textural experience. Tomato soup was nice and I enjoyed dipping spoonfuls of the quiche into it. Notes for covid times - no indoor seating, no outdoor dining available. Takeout only! We ate in the car without a problem. Came in for quick bite before work and I'm so glad I did! Already knowing I want their iced coffee, they're lunch sandwich grabbed my attention. The gentlemen recommended the Egg Salad sandwich, it did not disappoint! Fresh baked sourdough bread makes all the difference. My goal now to try all sandwich option. I was desperately craving quiche and came across this spot on Yelp! It is situated on Fair Oaks in South Pasadena, easy to miss if you're not looking for it. The interior is cozy with a few chairs and tables for those enjoying their pastries onsite. I ordered their Broccoli Quiche slice which was very tasty, although as you can see from the picture, only really had broccoli on the crust. The flavor was good and texture was nice! I was in the area and wanted to try this place out. There were no prices on display for the pastries. I picked a blueberry muffin and a couple mini apple pies and was expecting it to be $20 but it was $33.50! I was so surprised with the pricing...I didnt argue but I stepped out of there feeling they ripped me off. I'm all about supporting mom and pop shops and the use of high quality ingredients but to charge $7.50 for a muffin and about $13.00 each for a mini pie felt so wrong! There is a pandemic going on, right? The owner/cashier is wearing a beard net as a face mask. This is not new, I experienced it back in April, so I guess it's his personal style. Today I asked him what kind of mask he was wearing and he whipped out a piece of paper that apparently legitimized his actions. Mr. dude, I don't care how tasty your food is, you are putting your clients at risk! A beard net's purpose is to hold hairs, not to stop saliva from coming out of your mouth! They had a cinnamon roll that looked more like a croissant and was the smallest cinnamon roll I have ever seen and im sure it's like $5. I got 3 things it was $15 and their cash register was not working so I did not get a receipt to see the prices. She could have written it instead but ok. Anyways I get this is south pas but this bakery is overpriced. Big NO for me. Patty cakes in Altadena does not charge this much for their baked goods and their goods are superb. I can usually tolerate the way over priced (and often mediocre) baked goods, as I try to support small businesses in town. It's the rudeness of the owner I won't be tolerating anymore. I drive pass this place every day on my way to work and I was never sure they were open. I saw someone open the door. I literally went around the block to go back to try out this place and I am glad I did. Delicious. I tried a little of everything pear tart, bread pudding, pumpkin pie, ham and cheese croissant, chocolate croissant, blueberry scone, tomato onion yumminess. Owned by a really nice family. Their sourdough bread is delicious and probably the best that I have had. Their sandwhiches are a bit pricy at over $9, but the taste is hard to beat since they are made with freshbaked sourdough :) I recommend Union Bakery and I have been there for lunch every week over the last 6 weeks. Their most popular dessert is the lemon loaf I think; I like it but it is not stellar. They have been in business since before 2010, so they are doing a lot of things right! read more
