This place wasn't too familiar to me. I eat out a lot and this place I had not been to since they opened at this location. I will never go back again. The attitude of the staff at the front was similar to middle school children on a playground. They were entitled to be rude, both on the phone and in person. They lied about expected wait. I had guests fly in from two different states eating with me. We waited twice as long just to get service once we did sit down. The drink order never happened. The food ordered was cold, but seemed warm once. The poor waitress was stuck trying to salvage a tip after the rude children at the front desk ruined everyone's experience. The attitude of the whole place seemed to sink to the level of this poor experience. Aside from it being too expensive and the management nonexistent as they let this poorly managed troop of mean girls and their friends. Some friends and I stopped here on our way to Salt Lake City for a weekend trip. It was ok...I wouldn't go again. I got the Cajun chicken pasta. It definitely didn't have enough spice. We had Union Grill cater an event for us this weekend. Angelika and her team truly delivered. They were punctual, had all the necessary things to set up. The team was courteous and very helpful. We got rave reviews on all the food. From the fresh fruit tray (which was actual fresh not soggy or over ripe), to the pesto aioli (huge hit), to the hot dishes and desserts. We planned for 100 people had just over that and had plenty of food. Their pricing was all inclusive and we didn't have to worry about any other "hidden" charges. Start with a very good hamburger and a terrific Roosters Bees knees beer. The place has a pleasant young waitstaff eager to please. The problem is with the ownership. The Union Grill is understaffed with dirty dishes all over the place. How could that happen with the staff working their collective tails off? There are just fewer staff than needed to run the place properly. No one will ever claim the drinks are generous, so stay with the beers and you will have a nice experience. This place is great! Decent wine list, great beers and good food. The queso is absolutely amazing. The best I've ever had, hands down. The salad dressing are the same as Rooster's. Homemade and awesome! I was with a large group, but everyone loved their meals. I had the baked ziti. The tomato sauce was creamy and yummy! The noodles were a little overdone, but the sauce made it taste good regardless. A few people got the lemon garlic shrimp linguine. They all spoke highly of the dish and would recommend anyone to try it. It's on my list for my next visit. My aunt got the salmon which she also loved. The portions are not overly large, but I don't eat a ton so i had leftovers. The pasta was still great heated up the next day. The service was great! Especially since we were a large part on a busy friday night. They took great care of us and all our orders came out right and we didnt wait to long. The inside of the building is industrial and really cool. I would highly recommend this place. It can get kinda loud on weekend nights so keep that in mind if you're looking for something more romantic and quiet. read more

Very cozy eatery with an incredibly friendly staff. I spent the afternoon here while my girlfriend was attending a conference at the David Eccles Conference Center the next block over. I had their chili (quite tasty, with healthy portions of steak included) while I waited. The best part was the staff. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. This was terrible. We were told that it was really good and was so disappointed. We were told there would be about a 20 min wait we waited over 1 hour (not their fault) we were celebrating and told the hostess who told the waiter he did nothing special not even like a congrats. We ordered drinks they did not have everything they needed to make it off of their own menu. Ordered a margarita that was bitter they brought the appetizer and dinner out less than 2 min after each other. When we said we felt a little rushed he said yeah the kitchen must be fast right now and walked away. My husbands burger was burnt and dry as all get out. My chicken had greasy sauce all over it. Could not ever get any help. Didn't ask to have them replaced. He just seemed annoyed. We could not get him to come back to give us our check and it still had the drink we did not get (also simple mistake). This was just a really bad experience and will not go back. I went here with my co-workers during a business trip. The appetizers were really good (calamari and salmon lettuce wraps). Dessert was EXCELLENT (Triple Chocolate Mousse Cake). Everyone liked their food and said it was excellent. I got the beef medallions and felt it was below expectations. The mashed potatoes were excellent, but the beef was dry and lacked flavor. They had a good draft beer selection but didn't have some of them available, so that was disappointing. Our server didn't seem to know what she was doing. She didn't bother to mention that the salmon lettuce wraps come in threes while we were a group of four, I figured that'd be obvious to point out. My husband and I both ordered the Chicken Enchiladas. They were served when we had just started our salads. They were luke warm and looked messy and not very appetizing. Walking in the atmosphere was on point. Totally captures the essence of Ogden. Quick to be seated and our server Amanda was friendly and fast to bring us our drinks. The menu selection was good, simple and unique. Very quick to receive our food. Speaking of the food I enjoyed it quite a bit. The brisket burger was fantastic. Very juicy nice melted cheese and the brisket was surprisingly exquisite. Much better than I'd expect for a burger, it could've been its own menu item. Lost a star for many small things put together. Especially the vegetables. The lettuce was not crisp nor were the pickles. The tomatoes were okay but not fresh, probably hadn't been cut the day of. Also the check holder needed a little TLC. It was falling apart so bad that it couldn't stand up on its own like they should. Otherwise, me and my girlfriend both had a fantastic time and very much enjoyed our food. This is a consistently good local restaurant in a beautiful historic building. There food is generally a hit with anyone we take. Our favorites include all the pasta dishes as well as , Signature French Onion Soup, Cobb Salad, Vegetarian Pasta Salad & Cajun Turkey Sandwich. They are famous for their bread pudding - it is to die for. All the desserts look great though. Good for anything from casual to a special evening out. We take our two year old often when we go, and frequently see other families as well as couples on romantic dates. i will say, the food was good. although it took awhile and it was slightly cold. it tasted good in the moment. if only i could've seen myself 9 hours in the future violently emptying out my food from both ends... (which unfortunately happened in public) after i got home i got very familiar with my bathroom for the rest of the night. i've never had anything against union grill but because of ptsd... i won't be coming back. unless of course i need to prepare for a colonoscopy. try and get a cook that doesn't give your customers food poisoning. best of luck! read more

Excellent little restaurant with in the historic Union Station. Ate lunch while visiting the attached museums after a trip up from Salt Lake. Their soda fountain seems to be mixing Diet Pepsi a bit sweet, but other than that the waiter kept bringing one out after another, making sure that i was never empty for long. The Chicken Cesar salad was pretty darned good, and there was a lot of it for what I paid. The cheese was a nice touch on top of the salad, but the croutons were harder than a rock. The bread pudding is a must have if you are a fan of desert. Apparently its award winning, and I know why. While its not *as* good as the one at the Grand America in SLC, its the next best thing. The only thing I have to say is the sauce is a tad on the runny side, but it was gone very quickly and I was happy. read more

I like to think of myself as a nacho connoisseur, so believe me when I say, BEST NACHOS EVER! Big enough to share for a meal. Great appetizer for a group. Their queso is delicious! I also love the chicken salad sandwich. All of their soups are homemade and you can taste it. So good! Some of my favorites are the coconut pumpkin, chili and the chicken curried vegetable. I felt some nostalgia being in the building too, because I used to see a lot of local bands perform at The Basement when the venue was in this building before. It came to the table and just drenched in the gorgonzola butter and topped with thick cut of onion slices deep fried, imagine onion blossoms from Outback but slightly undercooked. I was expecting more onion straws to be honest. The steak was cooked rare but no sear on it, looked as if they got a medium heat pan going and thought that would suffice. Lackluster in my opinion for $30. The poblano chicken came out very well and the chicken was cooked perfectly, very moist and flavorful. That was done beautifully. The kids quesadilla is what you would expect from home, nothing special. All in all the decor and wait staff overpowered the actual meal. Glad we went but probably won't be back. read more
