Coming back to Union Pizza Company, the pizza here is on par with Lou Malnati's. The crust is my favorite part out of the entire meal. I also ordered the garlic knots just to try something new and they were pretty tasty too. I enjoyed the marinara sauce served on the side and used it to dip my crust in after munching on the rest of the pizza. Absolutely delicious! I think in order to have a positive experience here, you must know what to order beforehand. In this instance, call in a LARGE pepperoni pizza Chicago-style and an order of garlic knots to feed a family of 4. Also please eat it THERE! Do not pick it up and bring it home because this pizza is best eaten straight out of the oven and not a moment later. If you call it in, request to eat it there and they will reserve a table for you. Takes about 30 minutes to cook a large Chicago-style pizza. I'm not much of a fan of New York-style pizza but if I ever have a craving, I go to Bonello's which is right down the street from me in Torrance. You order at the counter and they give you a number and bring your food to your table when it's ready. The Food --- I got a slice of thin crust cheese pizza. It was pretty good, although nothing really special. They also have deep dish pizza and daily specials with different flavors for that. You can get extra toppings on the thin crust if you want. I'll probably come back to try the deep dish. The Prices --- My slice of pizza was $3. They have lunch specials: $6.50 for 2 slices of thin crust cheese pizza ($.50 for each extra topping) and a soda; $8.50 for 1 slice of thin crust cheese pizza, a salad and soda; $5.50 for 1 slice of deep dish and a soda; $9.50 for 1 slice of deep dish, a soda and a salad. Personally, I think it's a little pricey for the specials with the salad but not bad for just the pizza and drink. My one slice of pizza was big enough to satisfy me. Worth the $3 I think. My friend and I stumbled upon this place last week while going to Yogurtland next door. We picked up a menu and were really impressed with all the offerings. They have a good selection of pasta dishes, salads and sandwiches in addition to pizza. What was even more surprising to find is that they offer deep dish pizza. Something that I have only found up in the Hollywood area...so I'm super excited to try this on my next visit. So last night my friend and I cruised in here and I was so craving lasagna. We ordered lasagna and a side of meatballs. The lasagna only comes with two little garlic knots but you can add a side salad for $2.00 and I did just that. The lasagna was DELICIOUS! It was really filling and would be enough for two but I'm a pig and I ate it all by myself (well I shared a little portion of it). My friend really liked the meatballs too. And the garlic knots were nice and fresh. If the deep dish is just as good, I will be giving a five star review. You also have the option of eating inside or outside on a patio. Probably my new deep dish spot. So many pizza options, great city of Manhattan Beach, and very reasonable when it comes to prices. I got ham, bacon, and pepperoni deep dish and it didn't disappoint. This is legit deep dish and one of the two best spots in all of LA with Hollywood Pies. This review is a reflection of union pizza and Grubhub. I did not get the union pizza with peppers, onions, olives, and pepperoni that I ordered for $23, instead the driver gave me a cheese pizza. I'm not sure if the driver failed to check the order or if the business flubbed it, but I didn't want to cause a fuss by asking for a replacement as its rainy on Friday in LA and things get hectic. As for the cheese pizza, the dough was soggy and basically didn't feel fully cooked. This means that the cheese on the top basically falls off the crust as once piece when you take a bite. If you are going to call it a NY style thin crust, make it thin and crispy on the bottom, it can't be that hard. I want to support smaller businesses, but this place just doesn't cut it. Drove 26 mi tonight to give it a shot. Seeing as this is 1 of three places I know of in SoCal to get deep dish, I had to make the trip. For the record, the other two are Masa of Echo Park and Hollywood Pies in West LA. Not the best deep dish but certainly not the worst. Solid enough to satisfy a craving. Sauce was a little on the generic side. Sausage used was sliced. Deep dish is better served with crumbled or patty. Crust was fine. Near perfect. Maybe more cornmeal. Otherwise, solid enough. Finding good pizza out here is near impossible. Hats off to these guys for putting something more than servicable out there. read more

Their pizzas are very delicious. You can taste the fresh ingredients. However, they are notoriously slow at cooking their pizza. In the past, I would place an order online for immediate pickup hoping that it would be ready soon. The website would say about 30 minutes wait but 60 minutes is more realistic. I end up waiting at their location for at least 30 minutes. Yesterday, I thought I would outsmart their system by placing an online order 4 hours in advance. Additionally, I asked for 5:45pm delivery instead of 6pm thinking I give them a 15 minute buffer. The pizza did not arrive until 6:30 --45 minutes late! I called them up a couple of times and the person on the other side kept telling me how they get a rush of pizza orders at that time and their ovens don't cook fast enough. That's a lame excuse. Other pizza places deal with the dinner rush. They should have owned up to their mistake. I gave them two stars because the pizza are quality. We came here for a friend's birthday dinner, the pizza (being deep dish) that we ordered was surprisingly not soggy! They had an awesome layer of cheese towards the bottom, and the bottom of the pizza was actually not damp, which was nice! We tried the Rush and something else, both were good. A few complaints: the pizzas should take 20 minutes--our first pizza came out about the right time, the second pizza (we ordered later) probably took at LEAST 30 minutes. Also, we had to ask for every little thing--our garlic knots came out first, they took it to our table--we had no napkins, plates, utensils. I had to go to the counter to grab napkins and ask for plates, and they brought it to us (ONLY plates). We had to go back and ask for utensils to get some. If the service was a little bit more on top of things, and our second pizza not taken so long, this would be a 5* rating. This place is a little farther than usual for me to go to, so we probably will not be back except for special occasions--but if you like deep dish, you have 20 minutes to wait, and you're in the area, give them a try! You can also call the pizza order ahead of time so it is ready when you get there. PS there are maybe 6-8 small tables inside, and a lot outside--if you come at night there are NO heaters outside, so grab a table inside quickly if you don't want to freeze outside! read more

If you want real Chicago type deep dish pizza near the LA shore this is the place. I just ate there last night with 9 people and everyone loved it! I'm in CA on a family vacation and wanted to find a Pizza place to celebrate my son's birthday. We're staying at the Terranea in Palos Alto Verdes and there's not much around there but I found Union Pizza on Yelp in Manhattan Beach (25 min away). The Good to Great Part - We reserved a couple of tables and BYOW'd. We orderd Garlic rolls and Bruschetta for appetizers then 3 large deep dish pies (Meat , Veggie and plain). All three were very good. We also order a few slices of NY style thin slices and which were also very good. I think the sauce as alot to do with it, it was excellent. The owner took care of us and we found the service to be excellent also very attentive. Keep in mind Part - Large parties require you to call ahead at UP because in their large outside dinning area the tables are bolted to the floor so you can't put tables together. You can probably seat about 6 max before you need another. The inside part of UP is small and can seat 8-10 but it will be very tight. The physical setup of the place is the only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars. This place is so good they need to move to a bigger location, I know they can be successful. read more

I tried this place for the first time and it was excellent. We were going to cancel our order after ordering on Yelp and having it say it was going to take over an hour. But when we called they said they would make it for us much faster. I lived in Chicago and NYC for several years and I have a pizza oven at home. So I consider myself a pizza snob. But the Union Deep pizza tasted just like what I would get at Lou Malnatis in Chicago. It's not cheap but I guess what good food is these days. I would highly recommend the Deep dish.
