Hands down the best dentist in the city. Have been coming here for about 10 years. They're always on time (which is a rarity in NYC), very friendly to deal with, and extremely thorough. The whole cleaning I felt like I was at a sales convention. The hygienist was telling me I needed 5 $90 gum treatments for $450 total and it wouldn't be covered by insurance. Literally was talking to me about how if I don't get the treatment I could lose all my teeth one day. YET I have no cavities and am completely fine. Was also trying to bully and intimidate me into buying $2000 retainers. It was so uncomfortable and so unprofessional. I've gone here for 2 years and each time it's gotten more aggressive but now they have officially done it. I am gone. read more

They constantly are trying to aggressively sell me additional unneeded products. The first was fluoride treatments. Then invisalign for $8000, then told me my slightly misaligned teeth could cause sleep apnea. Then this last time their newest scheme was that after doing a very painful probing of my gums was that I had pockets and that I needed a $90 antibiotic treatment(not covered by insurance) and they recommended coming back in 3 months. They never did this gum probing before. I brush twice a day and floss and have never had any dental problems. Next they showed me my x-rays from 6 months ago and said I had bone loss, they never mention that 6 months ago. I am going to file a complaint with the NYS attorney general and the Better Business Bureau. There are also some dental associations may be beneficial to contact. read more

Cleaning is ok, and a few times aggressive. Constant upsell is really annoying. Most recently, I had an appointment and they sent a text to confirm. I thought it was just a reminder so didn't open the text. They cancelled my appointment the morning of it. Then started sending me a bunch of text messages to reschedule. The doctor and front-desk seem good but the hygienist is extremely aggressive and has terrible communication skills. Within five minutes of meeting her for the first time she informs me that I absolutely need a $4000 invisalign treatment and that all the previous dentists I had seen in the past were straight-up wrong. Keep in mind she is not even a dentist. She makes the assumption that I "wouldn't want braces" and so cannot understand my perspective that I may want to at least talk to an orthodontist or get other opinions from people who actually have medical education. She also offered me flouride for $65 and I just said no, I'll wait and fix my insurance next year so I don't have to pay for it. To that she said, "insurance never covers flouride", which is just not true. If her ignorance wasn't so obvious it would be more dangerous, but I think overall she meant well. read more

Unhappy with my last few experiences here. My routine cleanings are just OK, the real issue at this office is the constant push to upsell. This is the second time the dental hygienist has put pressure on me to buy an Invisalign retainer at $1400. I say no but they keep listing the reasons why I "need it". Also - this office is ripping it's patients off by claiming you need "antibiotics" added to specific teeth during cleanings; conveniently at $90 a pop. I have ended up spending upwards of $200 each time I visit this office for routine cleanings. I will not return here and highly recommend avoiding if you do not want to be ripped off. read more

At first good service because they want your money until you speak up! The hygienist leans on the glasses to clean your teeth. Did a crappy quick job. You speak up saying to stop she got attitude lol . They pushed for Invisalign and even a veneer (I said NO to the veneer) while they fail to tell you an additional price of $600 would be the cost of the retainer after. Terrible customer service Lenny is a waste of a space. I'm so glad I'm done with them. Go elsewhere save your money and invest ELSEWHERE! I've been going to this dental office since I moved to NYC over 15 years ago and have since discovered it's time for a change. I was scheduled for an appointment, sent in my insurance information via text which is how I confirm the appointment. I requested repeatedly for acknowledgement of my text with my updated insurance and to confirm the appointment. With no reply I called to confirm and received confirmation. On the day of my appointment I cancel other pending meetings to arrive and the receptionist tells me my appointment was for a later date. I whip out my phone to share the correspondence which confirmed my appointment and all the times I'd asked for confirmation with no reply. Ultimately they saw me but my appointment was rushed, not to my liking and very unprofessional. They are dated in their approach to dentistry, charging $75 for fluoride treatments which other offices offer for free. And at all of my previous appointments they would at least give a tooth brunch and floss but not this visit. Simply a quick you look great, let's schedule your next appointment. I'd always felt like they were trying to up sell me on treatments and having been to other offices I can say I was correct and also that more modern dental offices don't require that dumb plastic object to go in your mouth for an x-ray. I do not recommend doing Invisalign here. My process took at least 2-3X longer than it needed to because trays didn't fit, things were not submitted/approved with Invisalign, trays arrived but I wasn't contacted to pick them up or things were sent to a different address than I provided. For the first half, they only used impressions & no scans, which led to several improperly fitting trays. They finally got a scanner, but even with this, my new dentist (who does scans by default for all patients) pointed out where my teeth still aren't as straight as they should have been. While he offered to take over my account to finish, I'm so over the whole thing that I will live with where they are. I gave one extra star for dentistry because they are conservative on recommended work. read more

I feel fully scammed after my dental visit with Union Square Dental yesterday. During my dental cleaning, I was told by the hygienist I needed to have a dental antibiotic injected into my gums because there was an area where bacteria "may" collect. She showed me graphs and pictures of other scenarios. She acted as though it was a major concern that needed immediate attention. She also informed me insurance would not cover it. It costed 90 dollars a shot and after receiving the shot, was told I was given two ($180 total) and they then handed me sketchy paperwork to sign right after. Upon looking it up, it was indeed a ploy dentists do to make money. I was also being told I needed Botox for my jaw and they were pushing me to do it and talk to a doctor same day. Thinking back, two years ago, they also told me I needed a retainer. They ended up giving me 4 packs of Invisalign Retainers and charged me almost $2,000.00 out of pocket. I will not be going back to Union Square Dental. They just want your money!!!! read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If you value your teeth and your pocketbook, find another practice... ANYTHING is better than this place. So unprofessional, and 100% scam artists. I was billed an obscene amount for a crown and an onlay. They also billed my insurance, yet I still paid thousands of dollars. When I asked Union Square Dental about it, all I got was attitude and nonsense answers. They refused to let me talk to a manager or the biller... they literally would not let me discuss questions about my bill with anyone other than one of the front desk women, none of whom had any idea what they were saying. I legit believe this office is regularly committing FRAUD, i.e., billing the patient the full cost of the service AND the insurance company. Their services are good and I had been going to them for years but recently they got a hygienist who is an aggressive upseller. Really annoying. I gave this place many chances but it never changed. One reviewer described their office as a predatory practice and that is totally what you can expect here. You can't simply get a cleaning without being told you need multiple crowns replaced or other major work. Then they try to sell you fluoride treatments or tell you that you are grinding your teeth and that you need to let them make you a custom mouth guard. It's endless. Then there are the billing errors that are unforgivable. I'm happy for those who've had good experiences there but if you look at the bulk of the recent reviews, those are the exceptions. I liked the dental hygienist but it's clear this is a predatory practice. I was being up sold on a number of things my previous much better dentist never mentioned. The doctor saw me for five minutes and spotted four cavities that were not on the x-rays. No way this place is touching my teeth again. Who knows what would happen, which extra costs would emerge. Atrocious! Don't go here. I had a terrible experience with this office and decided to not continue with my service. I had previously gone to this office for years and left for convenience reasons, but I decided to come back. What a regret. Firstly, the hygienist had a nasty attitude and tone towards me when I entered the room. Then she tried to get me to do a deep cleaning when my previous dentist from the past year never mentioned that was needed. She didn't like my answer so she got the office manager to come in and try to talk some sense into me. She refused to commit to giving me the cleaning I came in for unless I did what they wanted me to do, which is X-rays. So I agreed to the X-rays, but then she wouldn't commit to a cleaning rather just a polishing. She basically made and issue before there was an issue. As a patient it's my choice to accept or refuse an up-sell. Essentially she was upset I didn't want to spend the hundreds of dollars on a deep cleaning and told me that they wouldn't be able to do anything but polish my teeth then-refer me to a periodontist. Now mind you, I have the whitest teeth and NO Cavities!! These people no longer want to do X-rays and a cleaning, they want people to buy additional services they don't need. It's disgusting. The office manager was argumentative, and obnoxious. I walked out and will never go here again. I will also file a complaint with the insurance company on the unfair practices of this office. You can't refuse a cleaning to a patient if they don't take the service you are recommending. I get the need for X-rays but to treat me like garbage because I'm not going to allow you to force me into something I'm not willing to do that's absurd. Perhaps I received this treatment because I'm African American I wonder if everyone gets the same rude treatment. Terrible service terrible experience. I had 3 cavities and they charged me for 3 cavities. Why one star? They only filled 2 cavities. The neglected 3rd cavity, but they ripped up the gum area below the cavity, totally missing the cavity. It took months for it to heal. Why do that harm to another human physically and financially? I understand I have incredibly bad dental insurance, it was all I could afford, but wow, if you devalue people like that, don't say you accept their insurance. How are they still in business? SO surprised by the bad reviews! I felt like I had the most comprehensive exam I have ever had with any dentist in my life. Dr Farrokhmanesh actually cleaned my teeth himself, so that he could 'really understand my teeth on my first visit'. He spent an amazing amount of time with me, explaining next steps that had to be taken with my teeth and even recommended the best toothpaste and toothbrush for my mouth. I'm going back to get 2 fillings fixed and then Invisalign. I hope I continue to be happy with the services here. read more

Really bad experience. Made me wait 20 minutes, even though I showed up early. Started with X rays, I warned them I gag easy - so instead of changing the mouthpiece because it was too big, they gave me the numbing spray and then gave me a smaller mouth piece? Also, when I scheduled online, I clearly stated I wanted the dentist that everyone is raving about- but instead got Miriam? Who really prodded at my gums and I too was bled a lot then said it was because I didn't floss properly. Very sloppy cleaning too- lasted so short because they were taking X Rays and making me wait for more than half my session. read more

Dr. Kateryna Grytsenko is a miracle worker! She has such a gentle touch that I didn't even feel a pinch when I got my cavity filled. I had been dreading the moment for so long, that I walked into her office extremely tense and she immediately addressed my concerns and went thru the procedure with 0 pain. Unfortunately I have DMO/HMO and this place accepted it. A crown under this insurance was supposed to be $150 but they quoted me $1200 and $1050 if I paid out of pocket. I gave them the list of prices asking them to itemize what I'll need because I don't want any surprises. I've not heard from them in over 2 weeks and I've emailed them 2x. BEWARE!! I have had the same Medical/Dental Insurance for the past 20 yrs. I am entitled to 2 free Cleanings a year. I have never been asked for a co-pay until I went to UNION SQUARE DENTAL. They insisted I make a co-payment. I called my insurance & sure enough my insurance once again told me there is no co-payment due for two cleanings a year. Nice office and convenient location. Unfortunately , I suggest avoiding them for a few reasons: Rough cleanings and X-rays- painful and cut the gums- not pleasant but not the worst thing in the world either. What concerned me more was the rushed appointments in general- I understand that many businesses are suffering due to the pandemic fallout. However, it still feels wrong to try to squeeze in as many patients as possible in a workday. Perhaps because of this rushed atmosphere, I never felt like the dentist was taking my concerns seriously or giving me clear answers. On the other hand, she was sure to try to upsell me on a night-guard, and crowns for teeth with fillings that "might fail at any point". I'm actually still unclear about the reasons behind each recommendation because she rushed me out of there so fast. I'll be getting a second opinion as soon as possible obviously :) The part that really took the cake was when I was told that I owed extra money from my last visit because the insurance "didn't cover all of the claim". I was surprised since I know the fee schedule, so I called the insurance, who told me they covered everything submitted. When I followed up with the dental office, I got a lot of stuttering, backtracking and then admitting they made a mistake "in their system". It's known throughout NYC that dentists often scam patients, and I sadly fell prey to an insane upcharge, after my hygienist lied to me about pricing. When I called her out on it, she apologized to me on the phone and admitted fault (which they said they had recorded). When I later called a manager to dispute the charge, I was met with intense resistance him. He spoke loudly over me, conveniently said "they don't record" conversations and refused to pay me back for the scam. I am disputing this with my credit card company, but I feel like I must forewarn folks. They will lie to you to get you to spend more. It's a shame! read more

I saw Dr. Kateryna Grytsenko and she was wonderful. Great bedside manner and very knowledgeable. She explained why I was getting tooth sensitivity and recommended a root canal. This office has a root canal specialist, Dr. Ehsan Farrokhmanesh who comes in every Thursday. I was very nervous for the procedure but he assured me that it was going to be okay and not to worry. He was very gentle and explained what the procedure entailed. The root canal took about an hour and to my surprise, was completely painless. Everything went very smoothly. I highly recommend both of these doctors. read more

Before covid, I went to a dentist all the way uptown, but decided I need to go somewhere closer to my home and work now that I'm ready to go back for a check-up and cleaning. Union Square Dental fit that bill. The hygienist, Yuliya/Julia (sorry, not sure of the spelling) did x-rays and a cleaning. That part of the visit took less than 25 minutes - for a conversation about my health, the x-rays and cleaning! And the cleaning was ROUGH. I felt like I was being manhandled. Seriously, I've never experienced anything like it. The cleaning only took about 10 minutes (maybe they get commission based on how many people they can get in and out of the chair FAST) and was not thorough at all. At my previous dentist's office, the cleaning itself took almost an hour and I always walked out feeling like my teeth were sparkling clean. Not with this cleaning. The dentist was lovely. Thorough and very nice. Oh, and unlike many medical and dental offices in the city, the staff at the front desk were so nice. I didn't make another appointment, but I I'd consider going back in 6 months for another cleaning with a different hygienist. read more

OK is about all I can say. If you don't mind waiting in the waiting room for up to an hour or more, they are not good at keeping appointments and starting on time. Marginal communication as well. The cleanings get the job done but are rushed by comparison to any other dentist I've had. Again, not a bad place, but just Ok. UPDATE: They are still terrible at scheduling and only have appointment slots every few months. They clearly take on too many patients for the staff they have available and this probably influences why they spend such limited time with the patients they do have. UPDATE Part 2: Again (3rd time) they mis-scheduled my appointment. After speaking with a manger, they finally agreed to keep the appointment for a close time slot, but still very unprofessional. Also for the 2nd time, they charged me for a fluoride service that was supposed to have no deductible. I had to spend 30 minutes on the phone with my insurance company conferencing in the dental office to get it resolved. This happened last time as well. Be VERY careful with these guys as they are not on top of their books and may charge you for services that should be covered by your insurance!!! On the plus side, this time the actual dentist (not the hygienist) spent a whole 2.5 minutes with me!! Up 1 minute from last time. I am so lucky to have found Yelena Voskina as my hygienist. I can't imagine anyone more amazing at what she does, and she is a fabulous person on top of being a brilliant dental hygienist. Yelena is family. And she's not afraid to tell me what I need to do better to have healthier gums and teeth...all coming from a place of love and care. She also tells me when I'm kicking butt and taking good care of myself. And the praise geel I don't want to share her, but the world needs to know the star that is my Yelena. :) My husband sees her as well and feels the same. And I'm happy he's in great hands. Don't believe the bad reviews. Union Square Dental is a professional organization with truly talented dental practitioners. They never recommend a service unless you absolutely need it. I've worked with them for 18 months to treat gum disease and rebuild broken bridges. Anyone who thinks they are just a scam might want to reassess their own dental health. read more
