I usually fly Hawaiian, but have taken other airlines at times. We were on our way from Honolulu to Dallas with a layover in Houston. Since, this is United's hub, we were expecting great things from them. This is one of their smaller planes, since the flight was only an hour and fifteen minutes. They had an iPad in back of each seat for you to use. I just took a quick nap. Service was good and the flight attendants were nice.

Man this flight was a doozy! As we were boarding we got a notification that the flight was delayed. Like reaaaaaal delayed. And you know the feeling when you're ready to get TF home, shower, and get in your own bed? Yeah you know it because I do too! Additional notifications and updates came through while we were walking to load the overhead bins and grab our seats. Welp, the bin right above our seats was full so I had to find another empty area, then in effort to not hold up traffic I ended up waiting in the back with the flight attendant while EVERYONE ELSE BOARDED. Annoyed lol. We then learned that the "loading supplies" were late and thats why we were delayed. The first class passengers meals were not delivered in a timely fashion because someone forgot to do something. A whole lot of noise that I did not want to hear. Eventually though, I made it to my seat and buckled up. Cool. Yall thought this review was over? It's not. The passengers behind me did nothing, and I mean nothing to tame/monitor/stop/control/calm their children. They tore my seat the fuck up! My back!! Our backs!! They screamed loudly, kicked my seat the entire flight, and annoyed the shit out of me. I understand that children are children, I get it! But my goodness, get control of your damn kids bruh!! Worst flight of my life. Thankful to be back home. We had the seats with extra legroom and that was nice. But whatever. Oh! We did eventually get back on track and made it home within the originally estimated timeframe.

Dear Flight Attendant, I don't know how to operate the reclining seat in first class - can you help me? FA says: "No, I don't know how." "Maybe ask your FA on the next flight." Me: "ok." "Thank you?" Great flight otherwise!

It was about a 3.5 star experience rounded up to 4 stars. I say this because there are some things that United does better than other airlines. Although, I absolutely hate their forced automated baggage tag & drop process at IAH. It was a cluster trying to find a machine that was online to print out our luggage tags, and even in the priority section. Too many people trying to do the same thing in one area. But wait, that's not all. You still have to go through this Disney World queue to give your bag and luggage tags to the attendant. Fortunately, he was very friendly and efficient in moving the line along. The boarding process is very organized compared to others. I love that they actually use their 3 lanes (Pre-boarding, Group 1, and Group 2). What a novel idea! That's how you control the gate lice. Very well done! The flight itself was good. The domestic United First seats are comfortable even though they are somewhat dated. They still have in-flight entertainment built into the seat in front of you. I kind of like it that way. A meal wasn't offered on this flight. However, the snack and drink selections were good. They serve illy coffee which is definitely a step up. I forgot my ear buds, but thankfully they had some. It was a good flight! Would I fly United Airlines again? Yes, but only for direct flights from TPA. It was nice to finally use up all of our built up miles in exchange for 2 round-trip tickets. That's another good thing about this airline. Their reward points never expire. That's hard to find nowadays.

Decided to splurge on my accumulated United mileage with upgraded seats for Doc and I to fly from San Diego to Houston to Mexico City. Although no meals were served complimentary like Hawaiian Air both flights offered you your choice of snacks: savory pretzel mix, a waffle cookie or a chocolate sea salt cookie. Both flights were under 4 hours which was great. Lucky for us Doc had bought both of us a Trader Joes protein pack of salami, almonds and Parmesan chips. You can also purchase a boxed snack on board. Impressive array of drinks to choose from, regular items that other airlines offer plus sparkling waters and cranberry cocktail drink. One flight you pick up an alcohol wipe and earphones. It had a cool interactive map so you knew where you were at a particular moment with remaining flight time til landing. The other flight had no screen at all. That flight was delayed awhile but if you have WiFi you'll get a text about the delay and more.

Made it home safely! The flight from San Francisco to Houston was good, the boarding process was a little rocky but turned out smooth once computer systems were restored. We got a blanket, refreshing drinks and snacks. I had a middle seat which was a little cramped but I was happy to be heading home so it was not a problem. This was a totally packed flight so no room for error. The flight attendants were not as friendly as the other flights that day but it was really early in the morning.

What can I say?? It's United. It is what it is...a hit or miss. I've had some terrible flights and some amazing flights. Being that this was my first flight in 5 years, I can't complain since I didn't know to expect...what has changed, etc. Historically, I have not been a fan of this airport as it is extremely confusing to navigate specifically when arriving. But this time I had a little more time to just walk around when arriving and when departing. They charge for e v e r y thing: -seat selection -extra leg room -checking in bags -gate checking in bags (esp if group 6 or no overhead compartment available) Did I miss anything?? Basic snacks and non-alcoholic beverages are free. Hopefully passengers won't be charged to walk the aisle or use the bathroom in the future!! I don't remember having to pay upwards of ~$20 for selecting my seat in the past...but since they bundle seat selection and 1 check-in bag, I opted for that ($40 each, total $80 one way). Since I booked a United "Basic Economy", I was only allowed a personal item and ended up in Group 6. Boo. Since it was a short flight, I didn't need the bells and whistles, just leg room and aisle seat. The flight attendants were either super friendly or just cordial. I had the bare minimum interaction with them. The United hub at both IAH is quite large with plenty of bathrooms and a Starbucks. There are also plenty of eating options and charging stations. Since I don't like airport food and always bring my own food, I have many seating options... Including the ones at the gates. The United app is just fantasic. While I tend to be a bit archaic at times...I loved being able to do almost anything flight-related through the app. This includes checking-in for the flight, adding a check-in bag, viewing the gate/carousel number, etc. They really made everything seamless with minimal interaction. There is also the option to share the trip tracking and boarding passes with others via messaging, WhatsApp, etc. This is especially useful for those picking up passengers. Would I take United again? Yes, of course as long as it's a direct domestic flight.

The seats are tight for leg room if you are tall. I would say the service overall was good. Both flights I had seat 29A. The flight attendants offered free headphones to watch movies/shows while during the flight. The snacks were good as well. Overall from the booking and flight I would give United Airlines 5 stars.

No TSA recheck line for Terminal C. But app instructions were right on. Thank you!

Update. Arrived at LAX. LA paramedics entered flight to help an elderly out first. The connecting flight was leaving from the International Terminal called Tom Bradley. It was chaotic. The United app directions to walk to Tom Brady minus security and without the bus didn't work. They closed off the section after you went down the escalator opposite 64A per app directions. Waited for a bus. Some waited for more than 1 hour for this bus. After it dropped us off, it was still a long walk to Tom Bradley International Terminal but we didn't have to clear security despite unclear information that we did from United app and some staff. Took a leap of faith with the lady managing the bus line who said we didn't have to clear security. What choice did I have? Take the bus and try to make it for my flight. Or miss it. This bus could be a one-off thing. I got a phone call from SQ to provide the updated gate number, check where I was as well as provide or confirm my direction with the bus. Even they thought I have to clear security again with the bus. Never walked so fast. Just made it for the flight and no security! Dripping sweat! I recommend SFO over LAX for transit as it's a lot more straightforward.

Not the worst airline, but they can do better. The gates here in Houston are OK, they could use more regular benches instead of tables, a strange idea. Customer service is better, boarding not too crazy. The planes could use more cleaning, I did find empty boxes on my seat, no one bothers to clean well, after COVID and all. Flight attendants could be nicer, it's the luck of the moment. Otherwise, you will with deals, which makes layovers stressful. You always have to check and see if you'll make your connection!

Ask the Community - United Airlines

Hi, I just had a quick question. I'm planning to travel from Houston to New York. Will they allow me to travel if I get a negative test? Would I still have to quarantine for 14 days? I haven't been able to find an answer?

My main "put off" was the old, dirty, worn, "ridden hard and put away wet" planes that we had... especially he ROC to CLT flight. I used the restroom and couldn't believe how gross it was. Parts of the trim were peeling off, just looked overly used and icky. American's planes were like night and day from the crisp, new and flashy Delta planes we had on our flights to Rochester. Then there's the technology or lack there of. Delta had fancy touch screens in each headrest allowing you to watch movies, play games, etc. American Airlines did have free entertainment that you had to access through your phone/tablet but there was an issue with trying to get it. On our last flight, the guy sitting next to me helped me get to the entertainment but after that, HE kept getting kicked off his. He kept trying the entire flight and got so frustrated, he quit trying. (I felt bad bc he helped me and I was able to watch a movie and there he was, struggling the whole time.) I got kicked off once but was able to get back on but it was still annoying. Never had issues with Delta. AA had fold out phone/tablet holders and usb charging ports on our second flight. Meh. No refreshments. Wow. I know airlines are getting stingier and stingier but holy moly! When waiting at the gate in Rochester, the gate attendant states over the loud speaker that they will not be serving any snacks/drinks on the flight and that if you wanted something, you needed to get it in the terminal to bring on the plane!! Whoa! The second flight did offer pretzels and a drink but honestly it was super off-putting to not offer anything on that first flight. I wasn't able to get e-tickets to have on my phone so we didn't have to worry about paper tickets. When I checked myself and my 4 year-old in the day prior, it offered digital tickets if you put in your email. So I put in my email for both me and my son... oh, they can't send them to the same email. So apparently, a 4 year-old needs their own email account to be able to get an e-ticket. SO STRANGE!!! Saw that there was an offer for airline credit in you give up your seat. Was tempting BUT I wasn't wanting to fly with them again anyways and we just wanted to get home. Flight attendants weren't overly friendly but they weren't terrible either. Checked bag cost us $30. All in all, American Airlines was completely different than our Delta experience. I won't seek out AA. We WILL be flying Delta again!!

Every single gate agent at the terminals was nasty and unhelpful. Particularly a woman named Shakira, whose hips probably lie like her mouth does. When my flight was rebooked, I asked if she could assign me a new seat she told me straight up to my face that she can't see the Dallas flight she only handles Houston ones. Strangely enough the only helpful woman there WAS able to look it up and even assigned me the seat in the same class I was in on my canceled flight. Shakira's little friend, who knows her name they all had their name tags covered, (I asked Shakira for her name) also treated me with disdain and like she had no time for me, in fact in the middle of our conversation (about my Dallas flight before the other lady stepped in to help) she started other tasks and once she finished those, WALKED AWAY. Walked AWAY. While I've been standing at the counter right in front of her face for at least 20 minutes. When I said to the other woman standing there that had already gone through 4 people behind me that she was helping me and just left... she said oh she must have forgot. She must have forgot? So she helped me and said woman returns she says to her... you forgot about her and she's like "yea she was talking about a voucher yadda yadda yadda" so you didn't like me inquiring about what every single other person is inquiring about when you cancel flights so you choose to ignore me and WALK AWAY?? Fast forward to this morning after having been up for 28 hours now, arrive to the airport to ANOTHER DELAYED FLIGHT. Supposed to leave at 825 now scheduled 905 meaning I will miss a chance for a flight I was first on the standby list for. I now will have a 10 hour layover in Phoenix because it's the best they could get me after the flight delays/cancelations. I said good morning to the gate agent do you know why this flight is delayed? Crew rest. Ok cool can you see if there are any flights out of Phoenix to Reno since I will miss the 10 am one? NO. She will not. Oh ok cool. Thanks for nothing American Airlines workers at IAH.

From the moment I checked in to drop off my luggage the staff was cold, abrasive and seemed completely uninterested in providing good customer service. They were all rude and so unhelpful. I was traveling with United Airlines which usually does a good job, but not at this airport. I had to spend the afternoon at the airport, and unfortunately that same attitude continued. Not once did I feel welcomed or see much effort to smile help or make travelers feel comfortable. After an already exhausting journey the lack of kindness and customer service made the experience even more frustrating. I do not like this airport. Many people traveling through this airport are coming to Houston to be with loved ones at MD Anderson who are going through an incredibly difficult time. When people are already carrying the emotional weight of a sick family member a little smile, helpfulness, compassion and kindness can go a very long way. I truly hope the airport takes a closer look at its customer service. Travelers deserve to be treated with patience, kindness, and compassion especially when they may already be going through one of the hardest times in their lives. If I was a former president I wouldn't want my name affiliated with this airport. Please do better.
