Really disappointed with the UPS drivers dispatched out of this location. I had a package that I did not need to sign for that was going to be delivered today and live in a secure condo complex with a security camera at the foyer. Instead of having my package delivered, I received a notification that the UPS driver decided not to deliver my package ("attempted delivery") because there was "no secure location" to drop packages. In my experience, this is clear BS: I have seen UPS packages left in the foyer previously so it is clearly negligence or laziness and not any regard for the packages' safety. My next step was to call the UPS customer care line. It took me fifteen minutes to reach an actual human; said actual human was extremely dismissive and rude, and unhelpful. At times, it felt like she was actively trying to hide information from me: she kept mentioning that my packages would be available for pickup here, but never mentioned the address or even city of this pickup center. When I asked about the address, the lady on the line scoffed and acted as if I should just know these things. I tried to reschedule pickup here and was told that I would receive a call when the packages were ready for pickup. No such call came. Since I live very far from Northbrook and needed my packages ASAP, I had to pay $14 to have these packages rerouted to my local UPS store. Let's hope they actually show up. BAD VALUE - Needed to send documents in 2-3 days. UPS charged twice what USPS would have charged, on the return UPS was three times vs USPS! $92 vs $35 and USPS delivered a day sooner with a Saturday pick up. On international small packages it can be even more! USPS amazing value! UPS very bad value for individuals. They obviously don't want that business. Thank goodness for USPS (now if only they would stop delivering my mail to another address). One other thing - UPS requires a drivers license to ship and scans/records it - why? Who knows. USPS doesn't, thus there isn't a business reason which violates European privacy regulations - GDPR. Given they ship to and have operations in Europe not sure how they reconcile that. read more

My family members and I are avid Amazon Prime users, so we receive a lot of UPS packages. About 95 percent of the time everything is great. They lose one star for the few times the deliveries were delayed. And the more I found out during one delay in particular, the more I'm suspect about the accuracy of the tracking information they provide online. In this case, I was expecting delivery of a piece of furniture and had stayed home to receive it. I'd followed the tracking information from the time it shipped, and it now indicated that the package had left the location in Chicago the previous evening, was at my local facility (Northbrook, about 10 miles away from me), and would be delivered that day. So I made plans to work from home that day and await delivery. At 12:35 pm, I received a text message from UPS saying that there had been an "exception" and the status had changed. "Due to operating conditions, your package may be delayed. Your delivery has been rescheduled for the next business day." What? But I stayed home for it! Really? "Operating conditions?" The weather conditions were clear, and had been overnight. I can't even ... So, after calling the 800 number and realizing I wasn't going to get any real information that way, I drove to the Northbrook facility within an hour of receiving the notification, to try to pick it up myself. Once there, I was told, by two very nice people (a clerk and his manager), that it wasn't really there. They explained that often the tracking information says one thing, and reality is different. All they could confirm was that it was not yet out at this suburban facility, and they felt pretty confidant that It was probably still at the Chicago location, but they couldn't confirm that. They did give me a little bit of a song and dance about being so busy around Christmas, and that their volume at this time of year could impact delivery schedules in general, but this was Dec 1. Most Christmas deliveries wouldn't be arriving this early, and I knew that. I think someone just didn't bother putting it on the truck coming out from Chicago the day before, as they should have. So I left frustrated, although satisfied that those guys had done everything they could to try to help, and drove home to continue my wait. Luckily my office was flexible about my need to stay home again the next day, but this could have been a huge problem if I'd had a meeting and needed to be in the office. The shipment arrived mid-day the next day. And now I know better not to trust the tracking information, and not to go chasing 10 miles each way for a package that might not even be there. read more

Why the low reviews? I can be pretty impatient when waiting for items so when I miss the UPS delivery, I immediately schedule a pick up in Northbrook instead of waiting for my driver to deliver again. The place itself is a little old and outdated (super old TV) and one bench to sit on, but the employees there have always been really friendly and funny. They check you in and check your ID, and I'll usually spend another hour or so reading emails or texting my friends until the driver shows up. It's actually kind of cool to meet your driver (the awesome person who has been delivering to your house). I can't wait to thank my UPS driver during the holidays because the past few years I've been retail-therapying like a madwoman and having the UPS truck stop by constantly. Service is friendly, there is plenty of parking and I've always gotten my item :) Very happy UPS customer. Thanks again! read more

Need to share my recent experience with United Postal Service. I ordered a new phone which required me to sign for the delivery. United Postal Service was supposed to deliver the phone to my house on Thursday, January 5, 2023, before 9:00pm. After waiting at home ALL day for this delivery, UPS updated the tracking for this package to indicate customer refused delivery. Now the phone is being returned to Texas!! There is absolutely no recourse for this with them. UPS has a deal with the phone service provider, so they absolutely do not care that my phone wasn't delivered and now I am forced to place another order for another phone. I would never, ever, ever, use this delivery service! read more

If I could give zero stars I would. My package has been missing since May 28th but every day my tracking number says it's out for delivery. I have called multiple times as this is important piece of equipment needed for my business and every representative tells me something different. The last two representatives that I spoke to have no idea of the tracking information they see on their end and are confused. Today the lovely Kerry hung up on me but before doing that said my item was either returned to the sender, lost or on its way.... Shouldn't she know which one of the three is happening?! I would recommend to never use this facility as the staff doesn't even understand what they have or don't have in house. The tracking number is no help and doesn't even update. People from Chicago receive excellent service by the UPS Package Carrier; however, when I contacted Amazon Prime why would your employee place perishable food, paint and leaking batteries (from an equipment) in same box with my food? Later on I got some notice that I never received my package that was a lie. Your company is getting the blame by saying no package was delivered to the house because Amazon ruined my food and destroyed the boxes inside. read more

Finally after it wasn't delivered on Wednesday I went to there call center, they said they had the package in front of them at there truck hub, which is across the street from the call center. Whoa! Sorry to see the bad reviews, because this was not my experience at all. If you didn't know, you can always pick up your packages from this hub. We weren't going to be home, so I went online to change the delivery to pick up. We needed our package by Sunday, but I accidentally screwed up and forgot to select a certain button, so when I finished it said I would get the package on Monday....EEEEEEK! No! So I quickly called the number listed on the site. A really nice guy answered, and he made sure I could pick the package up the next day on Friday morning, first thing. Assuming I would have a hard time when I arrived at the suggested time on Friday, it turns out everything was just as the online guy said it would be. I went to a tiny little office on the main hub that was Will Call. There were so many packages there piled up. The two women who assisted me were super friendly, totally on the ball, and got me in and out of there within a couple of minutes. How on earth they keep all those packages organized, I'll never know. Kind of reminded me of when you go to the shoe repair and pray they'll find your shoes. Win win, all the way around. read more

Two days in a row the tracking said out for delivery. The first day, signature required/non secure location, was the reason, for not delivering. I've been working from home for that past 18 years, and now my wife is working from home due to the pandemic and now my daughter is home from college, so we are here. Not only that UPS delivered small packages the first day and not the chair. This is the 2nd day, and the site says still out for delivery, it's 10:19 PM. Had a package shipped to the church. Our office isn't open during the week so no one was there to receive it. I find the three notes and return to sender notices all taped to the door on top of the others. I log into UPS and search for my options. I find for $7.99, they'll hold the package at their center in Elm Grove. I have no idea what this is but figure, I can afford $7.99 rather than another shipping charge. I fill out the form, run my card and get a receipt showing a charge of $7.99, and that I'll need a government issued ID. I go to UPS and find a little different story. First, my government issued ID wasn't enough. Before they would search for my package, I needed a letter from the church, giving me authority to pick up the package. Even though I'm the Council President with a church photo ID, I needed a letter on our letterhead officially giving me permission to pick up the package. So I left, wrote a letter to myself, giving me permission to pick up the package. I bring the letter in and well, things just went downhill further. Turns out, the parcel shipped back the same day. So the letter and the service fee were a waste of time. I asked about my additional $7.99 fee that the system charged me. the clerk couldn't help me and called his manager. Pretty much a waste of time. The manager couldn't explain why the system charged me and told me there was nothing he could do. I'd have to call 800-833-9943, to work out the details. Turns out the number he gave me is only for tracking. I called into the tracking service number and after going through a number of options finally reach a human, who barely speaks English, and is very difficult to understand, but very nice. In the end, the package was returned but he couldn't confirm if my card was run or if a refund was possible. He again was very nice and gave me a new 800 number. When I asked why the system would even take my credit card on a package that seems to have been returned, he had no idea. I call 800-811-1648, going through more hoops. When it finally lets me get to an agent, the system disconnected me. I called in three more times, experiencing the same disconnects. I called in a forth time, not giving much information and finally reached a human, who again, barely spoke English but was rather rude. In working with her, she claimed I wasn't charged. While on hold, I confirmed with my CC company, I was charged. She had no explanation as to why the system would accept my request if the package had already been returned. She also continued to claim I wasn't charged, when my CC clearly showed it was charged. So I filed a fraud claim with my CC company. Now I know it's only $7.99. But if they screw over a few thousand people a day like this and those folks aren't jerks like me, about getting a refund, just how much is UPS stealing from people? My firm was the largest UPS shipper a last year in Brookfield, WI. I dumped UPS for FedEx because of their poor software, tracking and habit of "losing" expensive components. Management was very concerned, we'd been with UPS since our founding. I believe today, I feel vindicated completely by my experience today... read more

I purchased a window for my package to be delivered. I then sat in the lobby of my apartment waiting for the driver and he never showed. He then said the package could not be delivered. Most recently, I received notification that my packages were delivered, but they were not. The lady on the other end of the phone was one of the RUDEST people I have spoken to. She obviously didn't care, but regardless told me she would look into it and call me back. I never got a phone call. Called back again, and she told me the same thing again.... and again never called back. I've never had issues with USPS or FedEx losing my packages. read more

I've been disappointed in UPS service for the last few years. If a package is delivered to my residence without a signature required, they just drop it at the front stoop in plain site. Why don't the drivers at least ring the doorbell. Recently UPS attempted to deliver an item that required a signature when I wasn't home. After the second attempt (you're allowed 3-tries and then they return the item) I requested the item be held for pickup. Upon arrival, my item was not in the Will Call area. I was told they forgot to pull it from the delivery truck and it would take awhile to retrieve. I waited 45-minutes for my package and neither of the two living dead employees apologized for the inconvenience. Hey, my time has no value. As a shipper I prefer FedEx Ground or USPS. FedEx is less expensive and seems to have quicker delivery times. For smaller items you can't beat USPS Priority Mail. IMHO, UPS is demanding so much from their drivers that they can't provide any customer service. read more

Seems like it's definitely hit or miss with this UPS and I definitely hit the miss so hard. There wasn't much of a line when I got in, but the poor woman who worked there definitely should consider other job opportunities. I'm not sure it should take 15 minutes to find one person's letter that's in the room you're in, nor should you not be able to find packages for someone/not give them all their packages. Whether it was because of dis-organization or just poor customer service skills there definitely needs to be a change. I try not to have my packages shipped to my apartment building, but on the past two occasions where I have had to the following has happened: 1. No one rings the bell or calls to inform that someone is downstairs at the door. 2. No notification slip is left. 3. This isn't the first time.....I've been home all day waiting for my package.....the delivery person listed on the ups site that they attempted to deliver my package today. Not true. My doorbell was never rang, no one ever knocked. This is ridiculous and disappointing and its happened repeatedly. These drivers hail from the Northbrook, Illinois location. I spoke to the company I ordered from and told them about the situation. They need to find a new delivery service ASAP. I wanted to add that I called the UPS 1-800 number and explained what happened and someone from the Northbrook facility called me immediately. He was very helpful and told me he spoke to the driver and he would be returning to deliver my package tonight. Horrible, horrible service. The UPS driver that does my route apparently doesn't understand how/can't be bothered to ring the buzzer (YES IT WORKS I CHECKED IT, Mr. UPS SUPERVISOR). She has managed to deliver a grand total of one (1) package to me-- because the day before I'd gotten a missed delivery note. I sat on the couch all day, waiting for the buzzer to ring. It didn't, but I did hear the front gate clang. I ran to the window to check, and sure enough, there was a UPS truck. I ran down three flights of stairs without my keys, and out the door, screaming "HEY UPS" as she was driving away. I managed to catch her and extract my package. Every time other than that, I've had to drive to Northbrook-- even the time that I called to complain, and her supervisor sent her back to try a second delivery the same day-- she just left a slip on the door. I'm currently sitting on the steps in the front lobby of my building waiting for her, because I saw her truck one street down an hour ago, and I WILL GET THIS PACKAGE IF I HAVE TO SIT HERE ALL DAY I AM NOT DRIVING TO NORTHBROOK CHRIST IS IT SO HARD TO RING A BUZZER?!!??! I am a former pizza delivery driver; I can assure you that NO IT IS NOT DIFFICULT. My favorite part of this are the people on Amazon who complain that Amazon sent their package through USPS. These drivers are the laziest in the whole country. There manager calls me weekly as I have had problems with them delivering at least 30 packages in 3 months they have left on the doorstep of my 200 unit building a formal gown, valentines gift $200 , and a $1,500 sewing machine all were stolen. I would not be surprised if the drivers steal it themselves. There are bold signs all over the entrance to not leave packages and to please use the doorbells for the apartments to deliver. Absolutely terrible. They don't even have a real number. UPS Customer Service couldn't get in touch with them, the driver said they'd drop my package there after failing to delivery my package during the designated window. Customer service said they'd be open till 7 PM or 845 PM depending on holiday hours, I talked to 6 different people between 3 PM and 9 PM as a result of this. I'm an Uber/Lyft driver and this was my phone coming as my old one died on me. So this was a means of income. Very disappointing outcome. read more

If there were a 0 star option, I would use it. If any Northbrook employee ever reads this page, NEWS FLASH: ALL Northwestern University student mail MUST go through the package center. No, the address on the package should NOT be the address of the package center. Literally every other mail carrier in the area trains their employees to do this and I have never had problems with any mail carrier but UPS. My mini fridge broke last week and I had to order a new one online from BestBuy. My parents placed the order on 9/22 and it was due to be delivered on Friday, but obviously I needed it ASAP. UPS "attempted" to deliver the fridge to my dorm on Thursday when I was out, did not leave any kind of note or send any notifications, and left me to look at the tracking and figure it out on my own. I called the main UPS customer service center on Friday and gave instructions for the driver to take the package to the mail center, gave them the address and thought that would be the end of it. Someone I assumed was the driver called me mid-afternoon and assured me it was under control. But no! I never received an email from the mail center telling me it had arrived, and when I checked the tracking, the note said "the receiving business was closed". This was at 6:47 PM. The mail center closes at 8 PM, and when I spoke to someone who works there, he informed me that they were open until 10 that day. I don't know if it's just that there are only certain codes you can use, but this guy literally lied because he clearly just couldn't find it or didn't look. Let me just note that it is NOT difficult to find the mailroom if you go to the correct address and go in the front door, and that at least one delivery person had my cell number, but apparently not the correct delivery person. I then called customer service AGAIN on Saturday, gave incredibly specific instructions on where to go and what to do, and again gave my cell number. The driver called while I was in class Monday--the customer service rep I talked to repeatedly ignored my saying not to call after 9--and left a voicemail, and I received the fridge that day. Fast forward to today. One day later. My parents had sent some things from home with one-day shipping, which is obviously expensive. I go to class, come back through the back door, go to run some errands and come through the front, only to see that there is (for once) a note from UPS with only my last name and the date. None of the handy checkboxes are checked. Again, this is the THIRD time that this has happened since Thursday. When I checked the tracking it said that the delivery attempt had been made at 9:45. I was in my room at 9:45. If the doorbell had been rung I presumably would have heard it, or someone would have heard it and come to get me. We have a small entryway and a second door so it's pretty hard to hear a knock if you aren't right downstairs, and I doubt that anyone was downstairs at that time. So basically, he didn't even try. I called customer service for the third time, they had someone from Northbrook call me, but he had absolutely no idea what I was talking about and repeatedly (and pretty condescendingly) asked if the person in NY who sent it had just put the wrong address. No matter how many times I explained the issue, he did not seem to understand. I plan to call them again tomorrow morning and reiterate the, again, needlessly specific instructions and once again give the driver my cell number. YOU NEED TO TRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES SO THAT THEY ALL KNOW THIS. This information is NOT hard to find. Two seconds of googling Northwestern mail services will give you a result. We are told not to have senders put Northwestern on the address because the mail will be rerouted through a different office before reaching the mailroom, but if you don't know at first glance whether something is a dorm, Google Maps is your friend! And if you go there and it's clearly a dorm, you should know where to bring the package! I will not be using UPS again if I can help it. Unfortunately many online businesses use them, but I will take the more expensive option before I have this happen again. It's a needless waste of time and incredibly frustrating and for such a small-seeming establishment, they don't seem to have much communication between employees or general coherence. read more
