I've never wished for 0 or negative stars so much in my life. This is the worst shipping experience I've ever experienced, and I'm an avid online shopper. I've had great experiences with UPS in the past- but in different areas. unfortunately, i have no control over who delivers my packages. I had one order with two packages that they attempted to deliver once (so they claim- but someone was home at the time of "delivery") and they are holding one of the packages at a location that's a 30 minute drive away/ over an hour by train. there is a location that is 10 minutes away from my place but they will only hold it at the location in a completely different city. well the second package in the SAME order was supposedly "refused" and returned to the sender. so on the same day "someone" was at my door to refuse a package but you had no answer for the 2nd package? Wrong and no. When i called the center, the girl was completely uninterested in anything i had to say and just said "the package was refused" i told her no, she said it was. I then asked to speak to a manager and she said "to file a complain you go online." nothing else, no web address, no phone number, nothing. Then hung up. I'll have my items delivered to my office from now on, maybe the UPS carriers downtown are a little more helpful and accurate. read more

If you have a package held here, do NOT come pick up the same day. Drove 45 minutes to get there, it's not even at the advertised address (it's at 2725 Sherman, which is down the road, and the package was still "across the street" at 2525 Sherman even though the tracking said it was delivered to the customer center at . I asked if I could go get it there, they said no. I asked what time it would arrive to the customer center, they said "maybe in half an hour". I ended up calling their supervisor twice, the first time she said it would arrive in 10-15 minutes. I called 30 minutes after that and she said it would be another 20 minutes. When I asked "How long is 20 minutes since 10 minutes has turned into 50 minutes" and she hung up the phone on me. Close to two hours later I finally got my package. Waste of a whole morning dealing with these idiots. No fault of the two gentlemen working in the pick up office, it just seems that they have a really hard time getting stuff transported over to this customer center from a block and a half away. read more

I had a package sent to south Evanston that unfortunately ended up here since I could not be home during work hours. The biggest problem is that it's too far away -- packages should not be sent here unless they are for people who actually live in Northbrook. The second star is for the friendly staff person who helped me figure out what to do after I drove an hour to get there and didn't have an acceptable proof of address to pick up my package, and just about cried. read more

I read through the reviews before driving up to Northbrook last week. Needless to say, I was scared. Whenever I think of it, I have UPS deliver packages to my work. However, a few weeks ago I'd forgotten to do that and received a notice on my door on a Wednesday. My UPS guy had been there between 2 and 5 and no one was home. Knowing that the same thing would continue to happen, I took the notice and read online about what I could do. I typed in the tracking number. I had a few options: Reroute to a new address for a $5 fee, hold at the Northbrook location, or have the second delivery attempt occur on Thursday. The site said if I had my information in before 7pm, action could be taken the next day. I opted to have the package held at Northbrook. I was given a five business day window to pick up my package. Since I was making a request after 7pm, I could not pick my package up until Friday. I drove out to Northbrook early Monday morning with my delivery notice. The location was easy to find and relatively easy to get to, even though I live far east in Rogers Park. When I arrived at 8:30, there were two people in front of me. One person did not have their delivery notice or a tracking number which made it impossible for the UPS employee to help them. The other person received a delivery notice Saturday and didn't understand the process of having the package held that the location as I explained above. It is so sad that UPS does not reprimand drivers that do not ring your bell or rings it and walks away before you can answer the door. I have experienced both within this year. Once they left a 2nd notice the first time the came. I had to drive about 20+ miles to get to the Northbrook office and sit there almost an hour to get my packages. They should be fined. Today, Friday, they rang the bell and walked away. When I called the main UPS number, they could only say I am sorry, we will try again Monday. No Saturday delivery. I stayed home to receive it today. So she suggested signing the slip so that they can leave it. I asked if UPS will be responsible if it is stolen. She snickered. The second star is because of the person I talked to at the Northbrook office, who actually said they would send the driver back. We had two packages from ups being delivered on the same day. One was delivered and the other said they couldn't find our address. Already annoyed that only one driver could figure it out we called to pick up our package. They told us it would be there after 7. We arrived at the ups customer center at 7 just to find out they updated their address (the one on google is still wrong). We drove down the road to the other location and arrived just after 7. We were then informed it could be another 30 minutes. Terrible customer service. read more

I worked at this hub for 2 months as a package handler. I got up at 3am and load between 800-1200 packages into 4 different trucks. The job is very physically demanding, I often had to lift boxes in excess of 100 pounds. These boxes arn't just thrown into the trucks. If you see the label here are numbers, ex. 202-3000 That means it goes on truck 202 and in the 3000+ section. Towards the end of the day these trucks become very full and you begin playing tetrus. These trucks are filled to the brim. Litterally. Most of these drivers make 180+ stops, so a driver being " to lazy" to read the suite numbers isn't true. They simply don't have enough time to search the entire building for the suite. If they don't find it, they return it to the hub and it goes out the next day. AIRS, next day delivery must get to the location at 10am or UPS pays for the package. -A day in the lift of a UPS employee. read more

If i can help it, I refuse to use UPS! Just recently i had been waiting for a package to come through via UPS. I was upset when i was informed that it would be UPS shipping it and to make matters worse, my package needed a signature. When i called to arrange pick up at their UPS center in Northbook, no one picked up the phone, which i found odd. So when I called the UPS 800 number, they told me that it would be shipped to a location closer to me. Sounds easy right? not really. Apparently this 'new program' is something they are doing to insure that the drives can literally 'dump off' your package at some random place. In my situation they dropped it off at A BAKERY! WTF??? Seriously UPS a BAKERY!??! What if my package can't be in a humid environment??? Who the hell thinks of this crap? When i asked for a phone number to confirm the location, the woman (whom, btw was in india as is the rest of their customer service) couldn't give me that information? WTF???? Why can't you give me the information of the 'baker' who is holding MY PACKAGE!?!?! I swear you can't make this bs up! I'd love to know the idiot who came up with this concept of leaving your package at some random business for YOUR convenience, but they won't give you the correct contact information? Yes even the address wasn't completely correct so here I am trying to confirm the address and i can't because UPS DOESN'T GIVE OUT THAT INFORMATION! I usually miss deliveries made by UPS because they come during the day when I'm at work, and they can't leave the package near my mailbox because I live in an apartment building that they need a key for in order to do that. SO...I usually have it held for pickup at their facility. I wish I had more choices in which UPS facility to pick it up from, but it always gets held at the one in Northbrook. Not such a big deal because I work in Northbrook and it's convenient for me to pick up my stuff after work. I had to write this review because everyone else's made me laugh. Yes, the lady that works at this location is old as heck. And yes, she really does take about 20 minutes to type. I have picked up a few packages here before, and had one really bad experience. The old lady had to look up my information by address...which she wrote on a piece of paper, then told me my package was on a truck and they had to find it. She had to call someone and give them a reference number. So I sat. And waited. And waited. And although the line of people also waiting for their package was getting longer, I saw people who came in AFTER me get their stuff and leave. I literally waited almost 2 hours. I checked in with the old lady again, who attempted to pull up my information on the computer, realized she needed my address again and then could not find it on the piece of paper she wrote it on. It was nearing closing time, so I was not leaving without my package at that point. The old lady moves slower than molasses, doesn't apologize for the delay or does anything to help speed it up. THANKS. UPS, please hire a younger, faster, tech savvy person with good organizational skills to run this office. read more

Really don't know why in the world this location is still in business. They never ring the damn doorbell it's like they are blind to it or are from the caveman era that have never seen a door bell before and have no clue what it's good for! Also why in the world is this location not opened on SATURDAYS for pick up after failed delivery? Some of us have actual jobs and bills to pay that we can't afford to stay home and look out the window all day as we wait for UPS driver to arrive with package! This is some serious bull crap and I'm fed up of their incompetent system. Every single time we miss a package we have to drive way to hell to their facility that's 45 freaking mins away because we can't be home during the time that they deliver as there's no way to know when they'll show up! Come the heck on UPS! I was left a slip that all it is marked on it is my last name and the failed delivery date and the rest absolutely no information! No estimated time they'll be attempting to re-deliver package zero, zip, zilch, nada! I tried calling the warehouse number in Northbrook today on a Saturday no one picks up the phone because the store is duh.. closed! Was supposed to receive package on Friday. They showed up but did not bother to ring my [very loud] doorbell. Just left a "sorry we missed you note." As I didn't want to wait until Monday and I didn't trust them to ring the bell I called and changed delivery to pick up at the Northbrook Access Point Center. After driving 45 minutes out there and locating the very hard to find [no signage] facility they were closed. It was 2:30 pm on Saturday and the 800 number assured me they were open until 4 p.m. Still don't have my package. Bad service. RING THE BELL UPS. read more

Complete lack of connectivity-communication-training within this company. Was told to come here to pick up my package (after an unsuccessful delivery attempt) by a csr at the 800#. It took me 45 min to get here one way. After arrival was informed by the on site attendant that people have to call this place prior to 7pm the night before. I wish the csr at the 800# would have let me know this info before I drove all the way out here :( read more

The service at 2525 Shermer Rd is HORRIBLE. I wish there was some way to complain that actually did something but apparently there is not. I had a package that was supposed to be delivered. I missed the attempts so I called in to ask that the item be held for pick up. I was told it would be held and that I could come in and pick it up anytime before the 30th. Just to be on the safe side, I called again the day before I planned to go pick it up to make sure it would be held. I was told again that it would be held until the 30th. So the next day I took the half hour drive to UPS only to find that, while they have a record of me asking it to be held, they decided to make a 4th attempt to deliver. I told them I wouldn't be home to catch the package cause obviously I drove all the way there to pick it up. I asked that they HOLD IT the next time it came in and they told me I had to call the 1800 number to have it held so I did that, and when I called the 1800 number guess what, they said they couldn't help me and that I had to call the same people who told me I had to call the 1800 number! So I called back and told the person that the 1800 number referred me to them and they told me no, I had to call the 1800 number then hung up on me. UPS Sucks. read more

I have lived in Northbrook for 24 years. Mail carriers and delivery people come and go, except my UPS man, Brian. Brian is the reason that UPS is always my first choice for shipping. He is prompt, reliable and courteous. If there is a problem, he jumps on it and follows through. I was once lying in a hospital waiting for a diagnosis from a surgeon who needed some MRI scans that were being "FedExed" from another hospital. Federal Express LOST that very important package so I had to wait two more days to find out if I had one, five or fifty years to live. The package was never found. I believe that Brian would have crawled through 500 dumpsters to find that package if it had been lost by his company. Brian, you are THE MAN. Thank you! read more

I have never had so many problems with UPS in any of the other five states I've lived in, not til moving to Chicago. New Edit 4/9/11: Can I possibly give them zero stars??? I am sick to death of paying for one-day delivery from Amazon and either having to pick it up from the depot or get it days later. The problems I was having when I wrote this original review have definitely not stopped in the year or so since. ---- I order something and specifically choose shipping with no signature required, yet they don't deliver it without a signature. I wait at home for an order that needs a signature, and they don't bother to ring the bell before leaving a notice - do they expect me to wait outside all day?? The best was once when I had two packages and had already had three delivery attempts (I won't even detail the painful process involved in THOSE attempts...). I called the depot and talked to someone and scheduled one last attempt for 10am the next morning. This person claimed to have both packages right in front of him, next to each other. The next morning, the delivery is actually made at the right time... BUT IT'S ONLY ONE PACKAGE! Somehow, some way, they managed to return one of them to the sender while correctly delivering the other. At least Northbrook isn't as big a trek for me as it is for some people. But I was NOT terribly pleased last night to have to drive through a 6" snowstorm in order to pick up my package - that I paid for ONE DAY shipping on, with no signature, but was not delivered because I wasn't home. I try my hardest to buy from people who ship via USPS or at worst Fed Ex, but unfortunately Amazon uses UPS - I'm guessing Amazon is the only thing keeping them in business in Chicago. read more

Please don't be intimidated by the reviews. I wouldn't say man who helped me was chipper, but he was certainly helpful. It only took a minute to pick up my package. I didn't even have my tracking slip. He was able to look it up by address, then look at my ID. This place is just fine. Don't panic. As the rating guide says, it's A-OK. read more

I wish there was a 0 stars option. Honestly I am so dissatisfied with your customer service. How can a driver NOT read the shipping label and go to an address that is in the wrong city? I was supposed to get the shipment delivered yesterday and it was next day air shipping for a reason. So aggravating. I have never had a good experience with UPS. Like many others I work during the say so I often miss deliveries. Usually I'll sign one of the slips so they can just drop it. I live in and apartment with an elderly, well meaning neighbor who who will see these slips and remove them (he thinks I haven't seen them so he will slip them under my door). This usually leads to me having to call UPS to have the package held. This is really annoying because 1) The center is far away from me. 2) The customer service is usually not very good. Recently UPS has started sending my packages back before I get an chance to call them. I WORK so I don't get home until the evening. They should really hold these items for 24 hours to give people who don't have the ability to be have at 2pm a chance to not have to waste time and gas to get their items. read more

I am appalled at the driver that services my neighborhood. Yesterday I came home and I noticed a box in the scrubs/bushes in the courtyard of my apartment building. Honestly if it would have not of been dusk outside I would have never seen it. I live in a courtyard building in the city and its a pretty high traffic area. I purchased an iPad for my parents through target.com everything with target went real well when ups got the package it was when the problem began the driver didn't leave it in the mailbox or by the door driver did not even ring the bell looks like it was just thrown into the front hedge from the truck nice! This is hilarious. Everyone has a problem with this company. They can't deliver my books b/c they "don't have a proper address". I work on a major street in a building that is two stories high. If I could zero stars I would as well. The Drivers didn't even ring the door bell and then voided the signature line on the notification so I had to go to will call. I called up will call twice, they were rude the first time and better about it second time. I drove to will call. There is literally a line out the door because they have 2 obese slow paced women working the will call around the holiday season. What is UPS thinking?! They are taking their sweet time as the line builds further into the parking lot. After about 20 mins of waiting for my 2 packages I was finally out of that small cramped room. read more

AMAZING customer service from the manager at this location (6/27/15)!! There was a delay in delivery due to bad weather on the package my company needed to recieve as soon as possible.The older male front desk employee had a bad attitude and basically told be that the time sensitive package was not going to get to me today and shrugged my company's issue off. When I spoke to the manager of this location he was very pleasant and optimistic about finding the package that I needed. A very ill patient will now be able to treated for their illness! The manager went above and beyond what his duties were and my company cannot be more pleased with level of customer service we received from him. read more
