I went in and the worker they assigned did a great job no module needed he rewired a few things and, I had my steering wheel controls to work with no extra accessory things needed. I found this shop on yelp as I was looking to replace a subwoofer system consisting of two 12" Kicker Subwoofers and a Kicker Amplifier in a wood structure. It pretty much took up all the space in the back of my '06 Scion xB so I wanted go with one smaller sub to give me more storage space. I initially spoke to the manager Jordan and he was very professional, friendly and showed me my options. I could go with a single 10" Kicker subwoofer, a smaller box enclosure and either a new amp or use the amp already in my car. I told Jordan I was looking to sell my existing equipment and he told me of a guy, Sam, who regularly stops by to buy excess and used components. He took the time to call the guy and have him come over to the shop and look at my system. Sam came over and made me an offer of $170 which was competitive with offers I got on offer up. I called Sam a few days later accepting his offer and I made an install appointment for early Saturday morning. I arrived right before they opened up and Jordan pulled up shortly afterward. He greeted me and Mikey the installer got to work on my install not long afterward. He removed my two 12" subs and amplifier and then Installed the new 10" subwoofer, box and Bkaupuknt amplifier. Once the old system was removed the actual install took less than a half hour! They answered all my questions and concerns and the finished work was awesome! Sam couldn't make it to the shop until the afternoon so he told Jordan he'd pay him the $170 when he got there. The new equipment cost $250 so to make things easy for me he Jordan charged me the $80 difference then collected the balance from Sam later that day! I appreciated Jordan doing that and I will be going back to Universal to have a dash cam rear view mirror installed! They offer a lifetime guarantee on the labor and said if I had any questions or concerns I could feel free to just stop by anytime! Been coming here from way back. Owner is friendly but that only gets you so far. My past car installs were good but my most recent installs have been having issues. They cannot seem to do the job correctly. The last time I paid to have all my wiring re-done. Upon inspection I noticed I still had the same speakers cables as before. Sound was good for about two weeks, then same problem...bass goes out. I love and need to listen to my music. If my bass keeps going out, pointless to have a sound system. I probably will not be back. I don't want to keep wasting time and money. Gonna try to find another location to see if they can figure out the issue read more

Jordan answered my questions about the rear camera and made suggestions on different models that might work better for my car than the one I had purchased. I ended up going back after I purchased another set that had both a rear camera and a dash camera. I brought it in, and the car was finished in 3 hours. The camera looks great. Went in for an install of a new head unit + backup camera in my Mazda, and Jordan and the crew did an excellent job on the install of the hardware itself, even cleaning up shoddy work from a previous Best Buy install. As other reviewers note, the parking lot is a bit of a madhouse, and you won't get white-glove service, but the INCREDIBLY fair price more than makes up for this. No pressure, no hard selling, and honest answers to my questions about upgrading my speakers in the future. Unfortunately have to dock a couple of stars because I had to take care of an issue myself after being turned away from the shop a day later, even though Universal provides a lifetime warranty on their work. I lost some steering wheel controls after the new install, with the explanation that my new head unit isn't compatible with factory steering wheel controls, even with the aftermarket steering wheel control (SWC) interface installed. I came back the next day because I discovered that a steering wheel button had been mis-mapped, but was turned away by a technician reiterating the prior explanation and that there was "no way" the functions could be recovered or fixed. I went home, Googled the SWC unit and downloaded the manual, and found out that the unit had not been manually programmed by the shop, but rather left on a factory preset that wasn't compatible with my new head unit (Side note: It seems as if my particular SWC wasn't one that automatically detects the head unit (as many newer units can do), but rather comes pre-loaded with 10 or so presets compatible with most aftermarket head units, as well as the ability to manually assign functions to the steering wheel buttons). A couple of minutes of manually programming the SWC myself solved the problem, but I wish that Universal had taken the time to program it instead of telling me that it was impossible to do and leaving me to do it myself. The shop is a hole in the wall type place but what they lack in an expensive showroom, they make up in customer service and pricing. The owner "Jordan" comes across as an honest businessman. He is respectful and doesn't try to up sell you on things you don't need. Unlike many of his competitors, if he tells you he has something in stock, then he has it in stock. This is a mom/pop type of place where they do remember your name. They sell everything from stereos, speakers, amps, to LED lighting for your car/truck. So the original guy had had to my stereo work kept flaking out on me. I went online and found Universal Stereo. Get all my wiring redone and a new Apple car play Pioneer stereo and Speakers. Been having trouble with my sub woofers going out again and they keep fixing it for me. Jordan is a nice guy and any problems I have he seems to always take care of the situation. I found Universal through Yelp. Once again Yelp saves the day! I drive over to Universal on Saturday morning and met with Jordan. I wanted to upgrade all of the speakers in my wife's SUV. Jordan explained to me my options and the costs of each option. There was no high pressure sales approach. I chose the mid range option and was told it would take abou 2 hours to install the speakers in all 4 doors. Being a nerd engineer, I wanted to watch the door panel removal process , speaker installation and re installation of the panels to the doors. Sal did a great job, worked efficiently and took great care in the entire process. When I left with the vehicle, there were no rattles or squeaks from faulty workmanship. He did an awesome job. Pros: - Jordon is AWESOME. He always works with YOU with what YOU need. He's not trying to sell stuff like a salesman. - He price matches reputable online shops. - He has very good employees(Chava + Sal) that work for him, they are very detailed and careful of what they do and put their hearts into their work(you don't see much of that nowadays). Cons: - Since their aren't much employees working at one time you have to wait to get work done. Best is to drop off your car and come pick it up later, like waaay later, cuz it can get busy. Received a car stereo and backup camera for my truck. Called to make an appointment for the install, but they were slammed with business that I had to wait my turn, about a week. It's like a five star restaurant with a 3 month long waiting list! No biggie because Jordan was upfront with me. He told me he would even call me on a day if someone cancelled, but he called me early in the morning to tell me that no one cancelled so I didn't have to waste my day waiting. Installer Frankie did a Mickey Mouse wiring job on my reverse camera and expensive head-unit. Had to take my car in 5 times before the wiring issues were fixed. The hilarious thing is that I noticed other customers coming in multiple times with headlight wiring issues, stereo not working and back up camera issues. Son lost his alarm fob for his car, didn't know what to do, found this place and so glad we did. Had called quite a few places but once I talked to them I didn't need to look any further. They walked us through the process and were able to get the car open and over to them. We're super helpful over the phone. Took it the next morning and they reprogrammed his alarm and new fob so that the old fob would no longer work. I had these guys install a new radio that we purchased from them. The price seemed reasonable. It took 4 hours longer than what was given to do the job. When we came to pick up the truck right away there were issues with the radio, before we left. There was a high pitched humming sound. We were told there was a grounding issue or a component that was overlooked that needed to be installed. So we waited another 45 minutes for that to be completed. Then it seemed to be gone, at idle. Once we left and drove down the street, it came back, humming high as the gears shifted, at that point it was late into the evening, so we just went home. Two days later we brought it back, and was told the unit needed to be changed out for another type that was not as good!!! I didn't agree, and wanted something comparable, and was told it would cost me more!!! At this point I left. They didn't care about taking care of the issue properly, And making it right. They should have known about this issue, been competent and sold me the correct stereo and components for a 2004 chevy Avalanche, so that i didn't have an issue. Another issue i had was where they drilled the hole to run the usb. I was never asked where i would like it. Which would have been on the bottom shelve since it wouldn't be so obvious to see the almost 1/2 hole to feed through, instead they drilled through the top shelve, where i can see the ugly hole every day, and the cable!!! If you want quality you may want to look elsewhere!!! The 2stars was for the radio working fairly well, until the screen went completely blank today. read more

I should have written this a few weeks back. Jordan and his team are outstanding. I needed a replacement antenna for my wife's Kia, and it turned out to be quite an ordeal due to the rarity of the part. The fact that Jordan would even take on such a small job speaks to his great customer service. He went way above and beyond to try and get the part. He tried to find one used on ebay, he called Kia, he tried everything. When he discovered the part would not be available he proposed a workaround that is working fine for what my wife needs with her satellite radio. I'm sure with all the starts and stops that Jordan lost money on this deal, but he is such an honest guy, and I cannot thank him enough for helping us. This place is excellent!! The speakers in the whole left side of my car weren't working, so I took it to Universal Car Stereo. Instead of just replacing my speakers (which would have been expensive), they assessed the problem, ran a few diagnostics, and eventually realized that the speakers weren't the problem; but rather it was the RCV. Whereas many places would take issues at face value, this place intelligently assessed the situation and was able to save me time and money!! They really care, and they are excellent at what they do. I have to be honest...I was going to use another shop that I've dealt with, for my alarm issue, but opted for Universal, it's 10 miles closer and I was in a hurry. The great reviews were the deciding factor, so I headed to the shop and was sort of put off by the 'appearance' of the office and shop...most people would call it a bit disorganized and messy and I wondered how the heck they got anything done. Well, now that I've picked up my car and dealt with Jordan and Mike...I gotta say you really can't tell a book by its cover. You can be professional and messy at the same time haha.
