Update: Upon reading my review the owner, Angel, called me to personally apologize and offered me complimentary service. He explained that his guys were unexpectedly busy and therefore was unable to make my appointment. He also wanted to make sure that I was able to get my service done tonight (the same night) because he understood that if I was to call another plumber, I would have to wait even more to get the service done. So I gave Angel another opportunity and they pulled through! Everything from coming within 15 min and making sure they got the sink unclogged. I would have added a sixth star because Angel didn't ask for me to update or edit my previous review based on complimentary service which I thought was professional and courteous. My water heater pilot refused to stay on last week, and I was getting nothing but cold water. I called them Friday night around 6:30pm, and they arranged to have someone out on Saturday at 8am. They found that the thermo coupler needed to be replaced, and by 9:30am, I had a working heater and warm water again! My girlfriend was getting tired of me not showering! :D The price was reasonable. I messaged with Angel a while back about something else, and today I called them because I had an issue with my kitchen drain. It's my birthday today and I asked angel for a short time window to wait because I had plans. He was able to do that for me, which was very nice. Ruben came over, and worked hard to clear the drain that was backed up all the way to the main line of the complex around 50 feet in. after I asked, he recommended that our building hydro-jet since the plumbing is not in the best shape it could be. After receiving a DWP bill that was almost triple what it normally is, I started to look for water leaks on the property. I contacted Universal Plumbing Co. & they arrived quickly and, at my request, brought a "Leak Detection Specialist" who had equipment to verify where the leak was coming from - an outside hose faucet that also supplies water to the house. After jackhammering & digging to expose the pipe, the leak was found & it was a steady flow, not a drip. Unfortunately, the entire galvanized steel pipe was rusted - not a surprise because it was 64 years old. All 130 feet of it needed to be replaced and new valves installed. The job involved a 130-foot trench from the house to the city water meter. The technicians were very thoughtful...they let me know exactly when the water needed to be shut off, which was only for a few hours while the connections were made. In a word, Universal was AWESOME! Last night I had an emergency at midnight when my cleanout drain backed up. I looked online and called a plumbing service that shall remain un-named and was told by the dispatcher that she would dispatch a plumber to call me within the next few minutes. I didn't receive a call from them until 7:30 am this morning! I considered this an emergency when the drain started to back up into the toilet and tub. I needed a plumber to address the issue immediately, at this point I relied on Yelp to help me find a plumber that would come out immediately in the middle of the night. After reading a few reviews, Universal Plumbing would be my choice. I went online to fill out their emergency request form. After submitting my request I was advised I would be called back within ten minutes. I was called back in eight! How is that for service? When I spoke to Angel on the phone, he already knew what my problem was because he read my request. He said he would be at my house in 30 minutes or less as he was finishing a water heater install at another location. He was there in 20 minutes. Angel and Mike arrived promptly and got to work on the cleanout drain. When the first attempt to clear the drain did not work, it certainly wasn't any fault of their own. I have a very long front yard and the snake they had was only 100 ft. When Angel realized he needed a longer snake, he immediately called someone from his crew to bring a new van containing the extra long snake. Angel's co-worker was gracious and friendly when he arrived despite being woken up at 1am to deliver the snake. The cleanout drain was near my dirveway. Before they began to run the snake down the drain, they took extra care with my car by covering it with a cloth so it would not be splashed with sewer water. They certainly paid attention to detail and I appreciated that. While we were waiting for the new snake to arrive, Angel mentioned he had been working since 8:00am. Despite the long work day, he treated me like I was his first client of the day! Thanks guys! What more can I say? Unversal Plumbing has earned my respect and business should I ever need a plumber again. One more thing, in addition to doing a great job, I was pleasantly surprised by the competitive pricing they quoted me. They did not do a bait and switch. When the gas company came out to install an appliance valve for my new dryer, the technician was unable to restart the water heater pilot light due to deterioration of the ignition system. He recommended that I call a plumber to repair / replace the existing unit, but I had no local recommendations from friends or family. Since I wasn't in desperate need of hot water at the moment, I went with a next day appointment instead. Angel & Co. showed up, diagnosed the problem and showed me the poor condition of the ignition system as well as faulty repairs that were previously done. They provided an immediate estimate once the problems were identified, so I approved the work order. During their visit, I asked about the remaining life expectancy of the existing water heater and received a fair answer without any scare tactics thrown in. That's the only time that the topic of replacing the unit came up and Angel was never pushy about it. In the end, I went with the more immediate repairs and I am very satisfied with the results. I called Universal Plumbing on Sunday morning regarding my kitchen sink that wasn't draining properly. The individual I spoke to informed me that they normally don't work Sundays but, if it is an emergency, they can get the job done with a $80 service fee, in addition to the base cost of the job. Based on her suggestion, I made an appointment for Monday from 12:30-2:30 (2 hour window). Angel and Eli showed up around 1:00 to 1:30. I showed him the problem, and Angel clearly explained to me what he would do. He told me that he would snake the drain. Angel further explained that he would need to cut the pipe coming from the wall because the pipe was curved at certain points, precluding him from snaking the drain. Also, Angel told me that he would place a removable pipe there for future access if the drain clogged again. Angel worked quickly and very thoroughly. I think he began the job around 1:30 to 2:00. They left at approximately 2:30. Angel and Eli cleaned everything up and did not leave a mess. I paid $160 for the job, which seems like a very reasonable amount. Today didn't start off so well for my family and myself, we woke up to sewage water and solid waste all over our floors in the hallways and bedrooms. I called our regular plumber we use and he came over, but didn't have the right equipment for what had to be done to fix the problem. We told them we were having a huge emergency and gave us a 1 hour window, but they arrived literally 32 minutes after calling. This company is absolutely terrific! We have had a plumbing issue for years.. roots in the line. I constantly had another plumbing company come and snake it. However, in recent months it got worse and worse. They kept telling me it would last 3- 5 months.. and it never ever did. One day they came and three days later it was backed up again. We decided to try another company... no luck.. and then another company.. nope.. and another.. nope. Then, we called Universal....and guess what!!???? They actually FOUND the issue!!! Thank you Chris B. for doing an amazing job. Chris was professional, courteous, efficient, knowledgeable, paid attention to details, and patiently answered my endless questions. Chris and his crew came out last week to change a water heater in the basement. A small portion of the rusted galvanize pipe was replaced at the same time. During the initial estimate, he noticed the smell of gas in the basement, so he took the time to thoroughly check the lines after the new installation. He went out of his way to make sure everything was working properly and safely before he left. Kudos to Angel, the owner. I had mistakenly believed that the copper pipe was not connected properly to the old galvanized pipe, and I wrote an email with photos attached. Angel followed up couple hours after the email was sent, and explained to me the proper way to connect the lines. He showed me how to deferential copper from brass, and he offered to send a sample of the parts used just to give me a peace of mind. That's serious customer service. I've had bad experiences with other plumbers in the past. I'm so grateful to have found Universal Plumbing. These guys rock! I just called Universal Plumbing a couple days ago to schedule a visit to estimate how much it would be to fix a leaky sink/faucet. They are definitely in high demand for their service and I can totally see why! A few years ago, as a new homeowners, I called one of the "name brand" plumbing companies when we had our first major plumbing problem. Since my family was new to the area, and since it was an emergency, we really didn't know where to turn. Well that was a mistake! Not only do they overcharge, but the name brand company often recommends services that you don't necessarily need for a HUGE charge. Thank goodness that for this recent plumbing issue, I researched local businesses on yelp and came across all the STELLAR reviews about Universal Plumbing. And they are indeed worthy of every 5-star review ! I live hillside, and have the issue of roots clogging the pipes about every two years. Well this time around, not only was there a root issue, there was also a cracked pipe that was leaking water under our home. When I called Universal, they sent their guys to my home right away- even arrived 15 minutes earlier than estimated. Chris and Oscar worked diligently and efficiently to replace our improperly installed old pipe and assured us that not only would they get the pipe replaced correctly, but they'd also make sure to snake the pipes, and clear some roots, so we wouldn't have any more back up issues. When the initial snake they had was not the right size for our pipes, they called in another employee, Jim, and he came to the house very quickly. Since they had already removed our toilet in order to snake the main pipeline, they were very mindful about not prolonging the inconvenience. I truly appreciated how well they worked. They have a tough job; having to crawl under homes, and deal with sewer and sludge issues every day, I mean that can't be too fun. But they are all were very professional, kind, knowledgeable and were very customer orientated. They really went out of their way to make sure we were getting the quality service that they exemplify. Friendly guys, great price and good service!!! Made a same day appointment and was originally told a later time. However they were able to squeeze me in earlier. I tried installing my own sink and it was a disaster, so Sergio and Edmond came to my rescue. They gave me several options to try and save me money as well. They didn't have the parts with them to repair my sink so they went up the street to buy the proper parts. They fixed my sink for $120, probably $20 for parts and $100 for labor. This was much cheaper than replacing the whole sink. I got my garbage disposal replaced as well and it was reasonably priced after doing some research online $375. They were fast, efficient and nice guys. I would definitely use them again in the future. As a side note: they were respectful and put on the shoe booties before entering my home. This was such a relief because being Asian, it's always a little awkward to ask guests to take their shoes off. read more

The kitchen sink in our condo was clogged up and the water in the sink rose as our neighbors used their sinks. We needed to get this fixed tonight and hoped I can get someone out here on a Saturday at 7:00 p.m. After the first plumber I called said he couldn't be here until Monday, I called Universal Plumbing and I'm glad I did. The person I talked to was very professional and polite and said he can have someone out within the hour. I received an email about 30 minutes later saying the plumber was on the way and had a picture of the plumber. Reuben came and was able to clear the blockage with the snake He also pointed out to me that there was a lot of sediment in the pipes and that the pipes for the whole complex should be cleaned.
