What COVID safety measures are you taking now that you've reopened? Haven't seen any distancing in place, just looks like a regular bar.

I stopped by and saw that it was completely unregulated and people were shoulder to shoulder without masks on. I didn't feel safe and felt that the establishment is not taking COVID seriously so I left shortly thereafter.

Brian and Dante were not there instead they have two girls. They have placed 3 picnic tables to add to the already existing outdoor seating. I felt safe and it was great to have some sense of normalcy

When we asked for utensils they didn't have any forks so they gave us one spoon and one knife. We made it work. Aside from our booth being in use, there were some people at the bar, another 2 booths occupied towards the kitchen side, and one table behind us at the corner in use, so it wasn't about them being busy. I'm hoping this was just a one-time experience because I've genuinely enjoyed my previous visits and would like to come back. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, and I hope future visits feel a little more relaxed and allow guests to enjoy their time without feeling rushed to pay and leave.

If it's your first time visiting Sampa, you have to be open minded towards the concept itself. Yes, the dishes here are smaller in portion and costs more than your typical fast casual spot. All the servers here are attentive and offer to help with what to order if you're unsure. For dinner, the Crispy Pasta is their take on crispy pata but served with spinach tagliatelle. The crab fat fried rice is a no brainer and depending on the night you come, I highly recommend the Sinigang xiaolongbao special. My son is a minor, so to the back we went! Seriously, the closer we got to the back room the more I felt I had been cast in "The Chef." Scary! Lol! The back room is black. Blackout black! Black tablecloths, walls, chairs, dark, low light. Very luxurious and open space. Which - because it wasn't full at the time - felt a bit like being in the film, The Menu." A bit too upscale and empty to feel comfortable. More guests arrived later, a large table, so that was more comforting. The food: Recommended *Kara Kara Tamales: braised oxtail with a peanut butter sauce. Wow! The taste was wonderful! Hard to explain but Filipino/African food meets Latin food. It was on the "shared plate" menu, which to me means it will be a lot. But the 2 tamales were not very big. Still, they were so rich that the 2 really were sufficient to share. Quite filling. But for price to portion ratio, it simply isn't worth it. I ordered the skirt steak. 4 oz, cut in half. Cooked down to what looked like .5 oz! Each on a toothpick sitting in a paper plate (or maybe it was cupcake holder?) IDK. I just know it wasn't a good presentation and the taste wasn't memorable. Regular. More grill smell than taste. Not at all worth $8. Service: Really nice. And mostly good. Though they did fail short by (1) Using only small appetizer size plates and (2) Not bringing a fresh plate to eat the crab fried rice on after the peanut butter sauce laced tamale appetizer was eaten. The server brought the fried rice, but didn't bother to give us fresh plates (nor silverware). My son was mortified when I grabbed a plate from one of the empty tables! (Teenager energy on full effect). But after initial attentive service, the variety of different servers whizzing by didn't stop to ask if we needed anything. And I sat waiting at least 8 minutes staring at the rice. I assured my young man that the servers would be fine with me getting another plate to save them from having to. And once I did, he suddenly started eating from my plate of my peanut butter free fried rice. And of course, when a server did attend to us and I let her know, she was glad I took matters into my own hands instead of not eating for 15 minutes. Thoughts: Go for dinner, and order from the full dinner menu, skip the skimpy street eats menu. With reservations you can sit in the main restaurant area that has some view to the outdoors. Without it - back to the black room you go! Know that it will be expensive. And it will be original. Not sure I'll go back. It's very "special occasion" upscale dining. But If I do it'll be with reservations. The meal was memorable and worth experiencing.

There were a few people milling around and I was greeted with "checking in?" No hello, no welcome, no mention of celebrating and told to let them know when entire party arrived. (This is becoming more common to be seated along with a $25 per person fee if I canceled less than 24hrs. I know restaurants are struggling but come on!) I watched as 'walk-ins' were given priority tables and when our party was complete, she was squeezing in a 3rd chair to a small cafe table right by the pass through door. No asking our preference. When she returned to seat us, I said "you're not putting us at that small table are you?" Her response - "yes...unless you want to sit inside." How was that not a conversation first? A professional would have said "I apologize, where would you prefer to sit? I see you made a reservation, are celebrating an event and we had some unexpected guests for seating options." Perhaps she was having a bad day, or was still reeling from a prior customer interaction but she was NOT up to the standards I equate with Manuela. Came here to watch my lousy Falcons blow a game at home to the Chargers Besides the fact Kirk Cousins threw four picks, the drinks were amazing. They may have the best bartenders in LA. The Revolver was perfect with each taste & the spicy margarita delivered as well. I also had eggs, croissant & bacon and those were tasty as well. No complaints there. It's not a true sports bar in the sense that it's lively in that way but there are a lot of TVs if you want to enjoy the game in a quiet environment. Definitely worth coming to if in the Los Feliz area. read more

I joined a few friends for brunch, and the bottomless mimosas were priced at 18 dollars--totally worth every penny, as my glass was consistently filled! The staff here are very friendly and they have a very relaxed, chill vibe. The menu is simple and the beer selection is good. They know how to make a burger (that actually drips like it should). We were seated in a shaded, well-positioned spot with great ambience, ordered food and drinks, and settled in for the game. Around halftime, staff switched our screen to the Dodgers game without asking us. When I flagged it to a female bartender, her exact response was "hold on, I don't care, I'll go see what I can do" -- and then she simply walked off and never returned. A different staff member, a man, was genuinely helpful and got our game back on. He deserves real credit; he was the one bright spot in this entire visit. Shortly after, while I was placing another food and drink order at our table, a second bartender confronted me -- rudely and aggressively -- demanding to know if I was "the one who asked for the game to be changed." He then informed me that FIFA couldn't be shown where we were seated and that we'd need to go watch it in the parking lot, in direct sunlight, despite the fact that we'd already been sitting there comfortably for half an hour with food and drinks. It was obvious the switch was to accommodate a small group of the bartender's friends who wanted the Dodgers game instead -- actual paying customers were an afterthought. This is Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles. The Dodgers game is playing on every screen in every bar within a mile. We asked for one screen, in the shade, for one soccer match, and were treated like an inconvenience for it. Bottom line: favoritism over customers, condescending staff, and a complete lack of basic hospitality. The one exception was the male bartender who actually helped us -- everyone else made this a first and last visit.
