Came to Upland per suggestion of a few family friends for dinner at 6pm on a weekday. We had a reservation so were seated in a booth right away. The place itself is super cute and feels very upscale, trendy, and spacious. The restaurant filled up quickly and the ambiance was quite lively for a weekday which I appreciated. Service was also very good and our waiters were incredibly attentive of our table. In that regard I had a great experience. Upland really fell short to me when it came to the food though. They have a menu with different sections (smaller plates, medium plates, and large plates) which I'm guessing is meant for people to share. I decided to order a salad because I wanted that as my main and asked if they could add salmon (I had seen a pic of it on Yelp from before) and was told they did not add protein to their salads which to me was a little crazy and inflexible (??), basically forcing customers to order another plate if they want more protein than what lettuce and some pieces of shaved ricotta salata can offer you. My fiancé ordered the pappardelle which he liked but the portion size was very small. I'm usually not very critical of places but I think the dinner menu here doesn't really allow for people to order their own dish without either leaving hungry or having a ton leftover after paying +$50 for an entree (unless you get a pizza or are sharing a few things). I liked the ambiance and the service was excellent but I would definitely want to come back in a group that is willing to share more plates. The salad I got was actually delicious and it's such a shame that they won't let you add protein to it for dinner since I'm sure many people would love to just have that as a standalone meal and I know they do it for their lunch menu anyway. After getting to out table, we ordered a round of drinks. I found the cocktail menu a little limited, but went with the Paul in a Pear Tree which was pretty good. For food, we ordered the Upland Donuts for the table. I had the Two Eggs Any Style (I did scrambled with sausage). The donuts were a really fun starter for anyone with a sweet tooth. I liked my entree as well. It was very classic, but all the items were cooked well. Ambiance is super cute. Loved the way the restaurant was decorated. It had a very inviting, welcoming feel to it. Though it got very crowded, it wasn't annoyingly so. Service was good too. Our waiter was friendly and stopped in to check on us. Overall, Upland was a nice spot for Brunch. We ate dinner on Saturday night at Upland. We had 6 pm reservations and arrived around 6:18 pm. Traffic is a beast in NY. We attempted to walk it from our hotel, but either my navigation or me screwed up. Lol Uber to the rescue. We were promptly greeted and seated. It's a beautiful spot very well decorated and designed. Our server was Natalie and I must say she was exceptional. She answered all of my questions, and offered some great tips. There was fresh baked bread served at the table that was very good. We started with the Little Gem salad. It is enough for two to share and it is awesomely tasty. Then we ordered the Lobster Cavatelli I thought it was good but really lacked the depth of flavor I was expecting. Our main dish was the Grilled Branzino. Folks my wife and I agreed this was one of the best things we ate since our east coast adventure started a couple of days ago. The depth of flavor of the fish was better than expected. Plan on a whole piece of fish fashionably presented to you. It was the perfect size for the two of us. We visited Upland NY and had a mixed experience. The service was very good, and they were accommodating with my vegan request, which I appreciated. However, the portions were extremely small for the price. I ordered the risotto, which tasted good, but the portion was so tiny that I ended up stopping for a slice of pizza afterward. My husband had the cioppino--he said it was good, but definitely overpriced. We also ordered a side of potatoes, which turned out to be about 8 very small pieces. We returned them, as the value just wasn't there. On the positive side, the ambience was lovely--great for a date where you don't want to eat too much, or maybe a business meeting. I may be a hardcore foodie and love checking out new restaurants and bars but I don't know the downlow on famous chefs and Michelin restaurants. But the Upland is one of those fancy kinds of places. It's based around California rustic sophisticated culinary with an 'urbane' touch. Whatever that means. I liked the aesthetics of the place. Near the entrance you're greeted with a warm vibe of jars of lemons and the open floor plan of being able to fully see the colorful bottles on the well-lit bar in the middle of the room as well as an open set kitchen bringing an inviting feeling to the room. I admittedly glanced at Yelp photos before dining here to see what I was potentially going to splurge on with a fellow foodie friend from Yelp this past long weekend. Ultimately I was intrigued by their pastas and I believe they are well known for doing their carbs very well as having a top tier burger in the city. Not being in a burger mood and noticing how tiny their pasta portions are visually I decided to go rogue and order something different. I went with the brunch pizza. My friend ordered the breakfast sandwich with prosciutto, comte, and a fried egg. Normally it comes with just a side of greens but they were able to accommodate with roasted potatoes. The pizza was way bigger and more filling than I could imagine. It's supposed to come with bacon, broccoli, cheddar, and egg. However, I may have only had one or two traces of some kind of fancy bacon or prosciutto but the pizza was littered with sausage and I'm not complaining over it. It was a pleasant surprise that really made it all come together because the whites from the eggs were just a stitch too runny. Overall, I was pleased with the meal. Not wowed but maybe the pasta and burger are wow worthy. The bathroom by the way is downstairs and directly in front of the kitchen. The room has a buzz factor. Upon entering one feels the energy of this place. The front desk is extremely polite and welcoming It is noisy so if noise is an issue for you beware. The wait staff also very efficient and knowledgeable concerning the menu. A freshly baked loaf of bread arrives and although I prefer a crustier more rustic bread, this was delicious and somewhat flat and delicious and I was able to I start with the signature salad which is exceptional in flavor and ingredients also quite satisfying with a great dressing. We next order the Bronzino for 2 which presents well, and is roasted perfectly. Served with a few roasted pepper pieces and sun dried tomatoes and artichoke hearts. Sadly no rice or potatoes of any kind The cocktails here are just meh. The wines are on par but frankly the 3 oz pours for 19.00. I'm sorry. First Impressions: spacious and good ambiance for a group dinner. I picked this spot for dinner after spending the day surprising one of our girl friends with a baby shower (her husband was in on the surprise and it was super successful!). The service was attentive and prompt without being overly hovering The food was delicious. Decent serving size and apps were shareable (we were a part of 6). I really enjoyed my Pappardelle and had it with a glass of chardonnay. Not sure if that was the correct pairing, but since I'm not a huge fan of red wine, it was what I wanted even though I ordered a meaty red sauce item. I was mostly finished with my wine prior to dinner anyway, so it worked out. My parents and I have been twice in 2 weeks. We have loved the server we have had (I think his name is Jamie) and the food is downright delish. You must get the crispy artichokes and cacio e pepe. The steak is very good but nearly came out mooing, so maybe order a temperature "more." It is August/September so we have chosen to sit outside and enjoy the weather while we can, as well as noticing that the inside is LOUD - we didn't think we could enjoy a conversation in there, as a callout for colder months! My friends and I came here without a reservation. We were able to be seated in one of their outdoor tables that had a heat lamp. I got the Eggs in Hell ($19), which was essentially a shashouka. It was actually pretty spicy! It's not the best shashouka I've had, as it could have been more flavorful. I also got a latte ($7), which they made with simple syrup. For the table, we shared a Margherita pizza ($22) and fries ($11). The pizza was really good and I loved the Asiago crust. The fries were thin and crispy. For some reason, they gave us a complimentary side salad and egg/bacon breakfast sandwich, which came on a biscuit. The sandwich was super yummy! Service was great! A month ago this was my favorite restaurant in NYC. That was until I got food poisoning from the lemon pasta. My boyfriend got a resy for dinner here cause he knew I loved this place. We got the spaghetti limone and the ceaser. An hour after we got home I started throwing up pasta until 4am. It was terrible. Upland is an inviting and spacious restaurant on Park Ave. The ambiance is lovely. That is the best part of the experience. Very plush and beautiful decor with great lighting! Really fun happy hour and dinner spot on Park Ave. While visiting New York for work, we decided to have a happy hour at upland, which turned into dinner. Inside the restaurant is amazing, but if the weather is right I would suggest sitting out on the front patio. They built a nice sectioned off area so that you can eat on the street, but not feel like you are sitting right next to another dinner party. It also has a tiny roof just in case it did drizzle, which we were lucky to avoid. Service was top notch and they were happy to give us some great suggestions on the food. In terms of food, there wasn't anything that we didn't enjoy. I would say if I was ranking the food, the skirt steak was at the top. It was cooked perfectly and melted in my mouth. The sausage pizza was also great. Not traditional New York style, but felt elevated. We had a pasta dish which was very yummy. Cacio E Pepe, One of the highest rated items on the menu, and it didn't disappoint. The corn side dish was amazing. Felt like an elevated street corn. We had the little gem salad, which was not pictured because we ate it so fast, and it was nice to have something green on the list. And finally the bread was amazing. I don't know if they cook it in house, but I would definitely recommend having a little bit of bread, but not spoil your appetite. 5 out of 5 experience and will definitely come back to try the other dishes! read more

I came here for dinner with a friend tonight. I walked in and was greeted warmly by the host and hostess. I then took a seat at the bar to wait for my table and ordered a perfect dirty martini by the friendly bartender. I then was seated with my friend and was treated to a delicious meal. We had a little of everything including the artichoke, eggplant, lobster pasta, vodka pizza, and a fantastic desert, Everything was prepared professionally and had a fresh, unique taste. I came for brunch on a Saturday afternoon around 2:30 PM. They close at 3 PM and were still busy and yet kindly sat me and one other person. The service was good, very attentive, water glasses were always filled. The donut appetizers were delicious. The donuts were thick and filling. *** 4.5 stars *** Great ambiance! I really loved the vibe - it feels upscale without being intimidating. I could definitely see myself coming here and grabbing a casual bite at the bar or coming for a more formal occasion also (make reservations if you do). We shared the mushroom pizza to start and I have to say, it was quite delicious. Sometimes I think that in NYC you're only supposed to get pizza at hole in the wall type pizza spots but I'm glad that we did not miss out on the pizza here. It was seriously one of the best pizzas I've had, so I had two full slices even though I had a main coming. For the main I had the black cod, which was a generous serving size and came with a decent amount of calamari surrounded by fregola, which is a pasta from Sardinia that is like couscous but a bit larger. The cod was perfectly cooked and the pairing was spot on. I definitely didn't need to eat the entire serving after two slices of pizza, but it was so delicious that I polished off the entire plate. We capped off the meal with the cookies to share, which came with a nice assortment of cookies that were perfect to share. Compared to all of the great cookie spots in NYC these don't stand out, but they were still a nice way to end the meal. read more

Had a good experience at upland last week. It was super busy, especially considering it was a Monday. We had a reservation and was seated promptly. Staff was friendly. Complimentary bread and butter was brought to the table. I started off with the tea-coupe, a vodka based spirit. I enjoyed it but it's super tart so if that's not your thing it's not for you. My cousin had the bucatini cacio e pepe. The flavor was on point but the noodles were undercooked. We let our server know and it was re-made and brought out quickly and was delicious. I had the margherita pizza and added the nduja. Loved the flavor. Wasn't the biggest fan of the crust but overall it was a solid pizza. The cacio e pepe is divine. The noodles are perfectly al dente and are coated in a ton of fresh parm cheese. I love cacio e pepe and this might be one of the best that I've had. I'm only knocking off a star because I wish it was bigger (well yes, I always wish I had more pasta) but for the price the portion was skimpy. There were also too many whole peppercorns that should have been ground a bit better. The vibes at Upland are also top notch. It's impossible to snag a table without a reservation, but we were able to post up at the bar which was a win. The bartender was super friendly and pleasant. My husband ordered the jalapeno biscuit egg sammie and really enjoyed it. I definitely have a feeling that you can't go wrong with anything here. I know the pizzas and burgers are super popular.
