Wow what an experience…read more Went last night for dinner after it being on our list for far too long. Started out with the grilled panela and that salsa really started the taste bud fireworks. From there we moved to maduros with beans and crema. The sweet and savory combination we T so well together. Next was the scallop hamachi. That sauce and the salsa matcha made this dish really stand out. Such a great combo. Now on to the mains. Wifey had the lamb mole de la casa which literally slapped. I went with the smash burger after really wondering if that was the right move. Omg it was. That burger was pure greatness. I'd put it up with the top burgers in the city easy. Can't believe it but we added a dessert. It was so fire. Elote cheesecake. We had the ice cream version of this at carry on and this cheesecake version was also phenomenal. Not flavors you'd think of but at first bite you are in love. Chilte you were far better than we could've guessed and we thank you all for doing what you do. Can't wait to go back.

When we arrived (Mother's Day), they had changed the menu to a limited (small) brunch menu. I checked in advance the website for changes and I had checked on open table for any Mother's Day menu changes being reported: none! It was extremely disappointing to drive all the way downtown to find they changed the menu for today. We stayed since we drove so far and I ordered a burrito. Please see pictures of my "burrito". Needless to say, after being served two taquitos they called a burrito, I didn't feel comfortable ordering any other food dishes. My son had potato tacos that he added beef to and he found tasty. My daughter didn't care for any of the choices but settled for the pancake. Just another level of disappointment after doing so much research to make sure there were dishes that we all could have enjoyed. We would not have gone had we known they changed the menu. I won't go back after being misled to order two taquitos. Our server was nice and I'm sure she knew we were disappointed the menu had been changed. She was the only nice thing about our experience but she should have told me the burrito dish is not a burrito.

Many other restaurants appear to be the same in Scottsdale, but not 40 Love which stands out among a competitive list of date night restaurants to choose from. My only small critique is that the place is a bit smaller on the inside (patio is huge though), so I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time because the bar seating is also reservations only which is different than other places. If you want a restaurant with a creative menu and an intimate yet fun atmosphere, then I highly recommend this place!
