Really awesome little place! nice crowd, tasty coffee and while I wasn't able to sample any of the baked goods, I might have to return just for that! I had the caramel nut coffee it it was delicious! Flavorful without being too sweet, not acidic -- served perfect temperature. The atmosphere was very nice as well. Plenty of places to sit and a choice between tables and armchairs. Nicely crowded but not too noisy. The shop was also convenient to parking with plenty of street parking available and an affordable garage right across the street. Great local coffee shop. I come here a few times a week to work, and the free wifi and spacious seating are much appreciated. It can get loud at times, but nothing headphones won't fix. Love their iced coffee and iced tea of the day, especially the acai green tea. The pumpkin chocolate chip bread is really moist and delicious as well. read more

A recent discovery of mine and I'm glad that I found it! I loved the home-y feel of this place. There were lots of tables to work on, each with it's own individualized lamp! The artwork on the walls were fun to look at. The cup sizes for iced drinks are really big! A small is the equivalent of at least a medium (if not bigger) at a place like Starbucks. I'm lactose intolerant so I get soy milk but they don't charge me extra for it! (Usually $0.70 or more elsewhere). Parking is tricky but I always find a spot..plus the location is on a nice strip with other stores and offices so parking further down the street is worth the stroll. read more

I sometimes go here but not that often. Their employees aren't very friendly as others mentioned. I once carried in my 8 pound pup to grab a quick coffee and was rudely told to leave immediately. I'm in town for a week visiting family & decided to tour all of the local coffee shops around Dormont and Mt. Lebanon. Uptown is Day 4 - the latte with oat milk was 10/10 - the barista went out of his way to be engaging and kind. The space is cute and would be an easy place to work for an hour and get out of the house. The food selection looked wonderful- customers came in asking for their favs (that were sold out so clearly popular). I would have loved to see one option for patrons who can't eat baked goods...have allergies, celiac or are vegan etc. Fresh fruit? Coconut milk yogurt parfait? I wish I could eat some of their baked deliciousness- but there were zero options other than a bag of chips and I'm not ruining this wonderful latte with that. This spot is all about the vibe, which then aids in the enjoyment of the product all the more. It is not necessarily a specific drive for the coffee type-a-place (nor special stop worthy, but all-around okay). But I would not be opposed to selecting from their numerous Baked options, having a cup, and chilling in their setup. It seems like a great place to get things done, read, meet-up, relax, etc. So, I recommend going because the complete package makes this place worthwhile. This was my first time and coffee & pastries were delicious. I had pumpkin coffee, a cinnamon roll, and later, a pumpkin spice latte. The atmosphere was totally coffee-shop-esque. It was pretty busy (Plein Air weekend); it was nice to see a lot of activity. I came here to study and was undisturbed for the 5 hours I sat in the corner. I originally had trouble connecting to the WiFi, but that was all my computer's fault :) I can't wait to go back, Uptown might become my weekend study haven! read more

Where else but Uptown could you get huge homemade biscotti for $2 and Hungarian-language lessons for free? I noticed that the sugar container said "Sugar", and also "Azucar" (Spanish), and... "Cukar". I asked if that was Turkish. No, said the cute guy behind the counter, that's Hungarian. (Turkish would have been "seker", I learned later.) I know only one phrase in Hungarian, I said: "Halvány fogalmam sincs". He smiled and said it in English: "I have no idea." A useful phrase to know, he agreed. The coffee drinks here are simple but good. The names are fanciful; espresso with milk and a Torani shot is an "Elizabethan". Dunking your biscotti into a good coffee, however, is an Uptown pleasure that will cost you surprisingly little -- and the sidewalk tables are a great way to add some Mt. Lebanon ambience. read more

I adored Uptown Coffee as a middle- and high-school student, mostly due to its proximity to the school. It is a great, mellow place to hang out for hours. Their drinks and desserts are always delicious, and they used to serve sandwiches. They seem to have gone through a makeover since I graduated, and now it is much better lit, though the much-beloved couch is no longer. I've frequented this local coffee spot over the past months and every time it's been busy but thankfully service was swift and friendly. Always order my standard small non-fat latte and it's always steaming hot and strong. Last week my daughter and I shared their seasonal chocolate pumpkin bread which was delicious (though I must admit sharing with a 2 1/2 yr old usually means you get one bite in before they finish it). Suffice it to say we had a good time. Giving it 3 stars for consistency in staff friendliness and quality of beverages and baked goods but would happily give 5 stars if they upped the warm/cozy vibe worked in to their overall decor (sorry I hail from Seattle and I want to enjoy my coffee shop for all it's worth). Location The place is open late, which can be a good and bad thing, when I walked in it was later at night and the barista was hanging out with a group of 12 teenagers sprawled across a set of tables, not really purchasing anything, just there. They were loud and didn't really mind other customers in the location. I grabbed my coffee and left as I being in my mid 20's was out of place. Think of the beehive when they let 14 yr olds in. Food: It has a variety of coffees and pastries. The coffee I had was a medium roast that had a good smooth taste, without too much acidity. The coffee was pretty fresh for the time, but I wish there was more information about it. I tried one of their cookies and man was I let down. I thought it would be amazing with how it looked. Service: The barista didn't know location of grounds or any information about it other than "house blend". Once she got away from her friends, she was a bit more helpful, but she tried to rush us out so she could get back to what she was doing. Overall: I want to like this place, I really do. It's right near my house so I will try it again. Good coffee outweighs mediocre cookies anyday. read more

So....uptown doesn't need to be so uppity.......I spent $16.00 this morning in this coffee shop. I asked if my cinnamon roll could please be heated and the "helper" stated, "Those just came out of the oven". Last I checked, I don't have any problems telling the difference between, cold, warm and hot. My roll was cold. I just ate it that way. Not going back anytime soon. Customer-centricity is all about making your customer feel welcome so that they will come back. What a pity that one female ruined my first time customer service experience. read more

the drinks are good, but there is this one horribly rude employee and i don't know her name but she has very short blond hair. it was honestly awful to have to order from her but the other employees are fine. there's also another girl with long black hair and bangs who's also pretty rude. It's hard to argue with the delicious, fresh coffee and the never-ending parade of fresh baked treats coming from the modest little coffeehouse at the edge of the Lebo shopping district. I can happily while away a half-workday, sipping mug after tall mug of their house roasts while utilizing the wi-fi that has become as much a part of coffeehouse decor as the vintage seating. I like to set up shop towards the back, away from the cold outdoors but more importantly right by the kitchen where the bakers are outdoing themselves several times an hour. The best little coffee shop in Pittsburgh! The atmosphere is great! The baristas are super friendly (the one woman is the most cheerful, happy person I've ever met) and helpful. I commonly ask about the flavor of the day, and they give me their honest feedback and opinion. I particularly enjoy the hazelnut and caramel nut ones; they seem to be more nutty and less sweet than most places. I've had more than my share of espresso drinks as well, and they are also great. Yes, there are occasionally 10+ middle or high school kids there, but in my experience, they're respectful and well behaved. If that's not enough to take Uptown to the next level, the desserts are out of this world. Muffins, apple coffee cake, cookies, lemon squares, banana bread, omg I could go on and on and on. All of it outstanding. Also, they serve Betsy's Ice Cream!!!!! I've never had a problem with the temperature (if you're cold, move toward the back, if you're hot, move toward the front). Out of town visitor in pittsburgh and needed to get some work done so came here.. It was awesome!! At first I was bummed they didn't have pour over coffee but the iced coffee was delicious. I also got the veggie sandwich and granola. Both were amazing and may have been one of the best vegetarian sandwiches I've had- tons of veggies, hummus and flavor. My sister got a cookie and ham sandwich bth that she loved. Free wifi, lots of room to sit. Lastly, very friendly staff. Maybe it was the time of day, but it seemed like the staff were a little less than thrilled to help us. Staff is friendly and helpful. Cute place for coffee, however, not a good place to get any work done. It's been steadily busy since setting up shop at 1130. Normally I don't mind but the people are so loud that I couldn't even listen to my class lectures at maximum headphone volume. So I gave up on listening to lectures and moved on to computer work. Forget using the Internet. Trouble shot for 30 minutes and still couldn't get anywhere. Google was the only website that would work. Nothing else. But when I used my phone, off of their wifi, I was able to access everything I needed. Very frustrating. Probably won't come back solely due to it not being an ideal environment to work in like every other cafe I frequent. read more
