I can't pass up visiting a new coffee shop, so we tried this one. We all ordered tiramisu lattes. They were so cute and good, it's not a very sweet drink, but it was still very good. It's a cute shop, I love the ambiance. It's small but there is seating. Service was great.
So glad I read up on this place before coming, the ube latte is a must. They use an ube purée as the base, then add steamed milk and one or two shots of espresso (same price, your choice) to create a delicious drink. It will definitely have me coming back. I didn't explore the downstairs seating area, but even the small storefront where you order drinks was charming and serene. Not much space at the ground level, but they do a good job making it feel like a quaint village storefront. Looking forward to staying a while next visit!
Such a cute interior. I came super late and couldn't stay longer before the basement closed + seats were full upstairs but I enjoyed the ambiance and decor nonetheless. The mini cupcakes drew me in initially. Definitely pricey for being so little but it's a vibe.
The vibe of this place is really cool! I wasn't super impressed with the chai here, it was a bit watered down. But there's seating in the entrance and then there's a downstairs area with much more room. Good place for a meetup!
While roaming around New York City, I stumbled upon this cute little coffee shop and I'm so glad I did! The ambience cozy, welcoming, and the perfect spot to take a break from exploring the city. I didn't take as many photos as I should have, but you can catch a glimpse of the charming entryway while I'm holding my coffee. The staff were friendly, and the coffee did not disappoint!
Returned because I saw on social media that they had a limited edition menu of ube treats. The ube halaya muffin with coconut crumble did not disappoint - I loved it so much! Tip: bathroom and additional seating downstairs.
Everything I got was made to perfection. Ube latte was unbelievably good. The right balance of sweetness and the espresso still comes through. Peach cardamom tea loaf was fragrant and cakey in texture. Not very sweet at all which is honestly what I was looking for. Icing they use is a very nice subtle compliment to the spiced and tart flavors. Maple bacon bun was heavenly lmao. Bun was the right texture, doughy and soft and inside they weaved in these crispy maple bacon pieces along with egg and cheese. It's definitely on the heavier side and enough to be your breakfast. Inside is so beautiful. Excellent execution on everything tbh. An unsuspecting place on the outside but spectacular deliciousness awaits you inside.
The cutest little hidden gem! I happened to stumble upon this coffee shop and it is now on my nyc must do list. The inside is beautiful and serene, a needed reprieve for the streets of nyc. I ordered their seasonal tiramisu latte and it was absolutely one of the best lattes I have ever had. 10/10 recommend!
Such a good lavender latte! I love how subtlety the lavender flavor was infused with the espresso -- it was more floral and natural than sweet and artificial like most lavender lattes tend to me. They have such delicious sounding signature/seasonal lattes too. Definitely have to come back for the tiramisu latte.
Got the tiramisu latte and it was very good!! Creamy and not water down .Will come back try the earl grey lavender cloud next!!
Solid coffee, particularly their specialty lattes. Interesting setup of a space overall - order your coffee on one side, and then exit and re-enter on the other side for the additional seating! Staff was really friendly. The real star of the show are the pastries. We had a coffee cinnamon roll that was almost like monkey bread. So freaking good!
After our sumptuous feast at Russ and Daughters Cafe, I researched where to go for a great Cappucino and Urban Backyard popped up with glowing reviews. I was excited and with good reason. As soon as we entered, the vibe was unmistakably unpretentious down to earth and just super comfortable. The baristas were also extraordinarily kind, humorous and helpful. What sets them apart from others is that they engage with people on a meaningful level, which is rare and so very much appreciated. I ordered my oat milk cappuccino with one pump of caramel and it was utterly delightful. My only regret is not ordering the decadent looking espresso chocolate loaf staring me in the face practically begging me to get it. Ha ha.. There is always next time.
The staff here is really nice and makes you feel welcomed. It's a tight space, so not ideal to come and sit here. The drinks were good, though not my favorite in the city
I got an iced Ube latte when I went and I enjoyed it. I was originally gonna get a single shot of espresso but after the barista told me a double would be the same price I figured why not. ~ Pumpkin Pie Latte $7 ~ [Rating: 5/5] One of the best pumpkin spice latte I have had so far! You do get the fragrant spices, and surprisingly it is not sweet! Maybe coz it uses pumpkin purée mix & pumpkin spices to achieve the flavour rather than syrup. Wish it also came with latte art! ~ Rose Cardamom Latte $6.75 ~ [Rating: 4.75/5] This is sweeter than the former one, as it uses a rose cardamom tea syrup, but it's a level of sweetness that I tolerant. Cardamom's unique flavour & aroma worked beautifully with the espresso and milk. You don't really get the rose flavour, but surly it contributes to the overall wonderful taste. ~ Pumpkin Loaf w/ Spiced Cream Cheese $4.75 ~ [Rating: 1/5] One of the worst loaf I have ever had the displeasure of trying As soon as my fork cut into the cake, I immediately know this is bone dry and crumbly. I also didn't really get much flavour out of it. We had to return it, and I'm so glad the staff was really cool about it & processed a refund right away. ~ Mini Cupcakes (Marsala Chai & Pumpkin Spice flavoured) $4.75 ~ [Rating: 3/5] We had no expectation for these, so naturally we couldn't be let down by the lack of flavours & dense texture. Plus it tasted much better than the loaf both flavour & texture wise! What we are here for, is to admire these cute looking little guys Order if you simply want an instagrammable pic! Will I be back? Urban Backyard is a cozy spot serving up familiar coffee drinks as well off-the-beaten ones plus a selection of baked eats like cakes slices, cookies, and cupcakes. the NoLita coffee shop is a space with a warm interior that is friendly to the eye. filed with plants and elements of a patio turned into an inside space, the coffee spot has a unique vibe. stopped here for an iced Americano coffee, last month and was served a tasty brew of coffee providing some cooling relief on a warm afternoon. the staff is amicable and put their efforts into your coffee orders. while the interior seating is limited and there are a few sidewalk seats, it is a worthwhile stop for anyone who enjoys coffee and wants an escape from the din of NYC. read more
I think Urban Backyard is great if you know what to order. Otherwise, I would say it's pricy for what you get. I almost walked past the place coming here for the first time because the place is small. There are only 2-3 tables in the cafe and one table and a stool outside. With how popular this place is, they definitely could use a space expansion. Aside from the size of the space, the vibe inside is nice if you're lucky enough to snag a table. We weren't able to sit inside but we took our pastries and ate them on the mini stool (makeshift table) outside. The baristas were super nice and brought our drinks to us seeing that there was no space to stand inside while we waited for our drinks. My favorite thing taste wise was my partner's Iced Ube Latte with espresso which you could tell the ube syrup was made in house. Less of a fan of my Iced Rose Matcha Latte which I found was a little sweeter than I would've liked and a little too heavy on the rose. For pastries we got the lychee rose loaf and the earl gray cupcake. I had the same issue with the lychee rose loaf... a little too sweet and heavy on the rose. The earl gray succulent cupcake, on the other hand, was delicious and beautiful... except for the fact that it was pretty expensive for how small the cupcake was. If you're looking for a specialty latte or matcha, there are other places in the city with bigger spaces, a bathroom, and drinks that are just as good and if not better. If you want the instagrammable succulent cupcake, then Urban Backyard is your place. read more

The loaves were decent, the flavor could be better but the texture was great. The tea itself was great for a hot day but I would've preferred it be less iced down because it felt like I had less than I would have imagined. Ambiance was perfect for a cozy coffee shop and the service was fast. read more

Very cool entrance and spot, you walk along some stones like you're in someone's backyard leading to the coffee shop. We ordered the ube latte and the lavender latte. The barista said people say it's the best ube latte in town. I think that raised my expectations too high because I wasn't too impressed and I'm sorry to say but I've had better even in NY. With that said, I really loved the lavender latte! They have cute pastries too. read more

Wanted to try a new dessert shop and found this place with my friends. We were so hyped up to come here because of how cute the mini cupcakes looked like online. The seating in the basement was closed for the day, so it was really hard to find seats because it was a very small cafe with limited seating. Wanted to give a shoutout to the workers because they are so sweet and kind. They helped accommodate me as well as my friends and loved the hospitality. The only thing I was pretty sad about were the cupcakes because they looked amazing, but tasted kind of stale. They were definitely refrigerated and didn't have that nice cake texture to it. The frosting has no taste and was a bit too much for me and my friends to handle. Their other bakery items and drinks look great though. I'll probably be back to try the other things, but buying the cupcakes is definitely a one time situation. Food: 3/5 Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 read more
A really cute coffee shop that's kind of hidden away but worth going to! There were so many plants it was like a little plant oasis. I got the Ube latte with oat milk (FYI, oat milk is an extra 75 cents) and it was a little pricey ($7.89) but the drink itself was so rich with flavor and it was fairly large! I ended up staying to do work for a few hours and it was a great atmosphere with free wifi. (But warning, there are only two small tables inside.) I also bought a slice of the Earl grey banana bread (not pictured here) and I could really taste the tea flavor along with the banana -- definitely ask for it to be warmed up for extra deliciousness. The only thing was, it ended up being $4.90 which was also a little bit pricey. Overall, everything was absolutely delicious and I would probably come back for the Ube latte alone. read more

The space is small, but cute. There are only three tables inside, and we luckily were able to get one. The service was kind. Although I saw a photo of a succulent cupcake, they didn't have any that day and we opted for a slice of their yuzu loaf instead. I'm glad we did, because it sold out after and it was the perfect sweet accompaniment to our coffees. The flat white was a tad sweeter than I like, but not by much. And even though they had a steady stream of people coming in, it wasn't overwhelming and we enjoyed our stay there. read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to get some work done. This place was on my saved list for a while so we decided to give it a try. I got the iced ube latte and he got the yuzuade with mint mojito. The ube latte had a strong ube flavor and I enjoyed it a lot! The yuzuade was very refreshing for a hot summer day but I wish the mint flavor would be stronger. Staffs were nice and they also have great WiFi. The cafe was very small with only two small tables inside but it had more tables outside. The drinks were pretty pricy, total of these two drinks were around $15. Will recommend if you're looking for a cute cafe to hang out with friends but probably not a place that I'll come often because of the price! read more
Popped in Urban Backyard on a very windy Saturday with a friend while shopping in SoHo. It's terribly small inside (2-3 tables in total) but with additional seating downstairs. We didn't bother with either because it was very packed and fully.. full. We caffeinated ourselves with a Cappuccino and a Cold Brew and said we'd hope next time, there would be some seating available! Not much of a selection of pastries from what I could see, but the ones I did peek were pretty quite cute and unique, but very SMOL. Maybe next time I'll try some! read more
Urban Backyard is a really cute coffee shop that I'd recommend visiting! There are only a couple of tables and benches inside, so it might be hard to find seating, but there are some more seats outside or you can take your coffee to go. My friend had been before and said that she had a great latte from here, so we decided to go together one morning. We both got Floral Matcha Lattes, but I got the lavender and she got the rose. The Sunday morning that we went, we had some beautiful latte art on top which was a nice surprise! Of course most importantly, the lattes tasted amazing and I was glad that we went. read more

What a lovely coffee shop!! I wanted to stop by because I saw the cute cupcakes, but it turns out they're no longer available. I stopped by anyway! The interior is so welcoming and unique, so I wanted to stop by. I ordered their floral matcha latte and my partner got a drip coffee. The prices were a bit on the higher side. There was only one person at the counter, so the space was filling up, but we were in and out within 10 minutes. The latte was delicious, but it's really the interior that drew me in. It's a bit tiny inside with only a few tables. I'd love to stop by again in the future to try some other drinks! read more

Had this place bookmarked for awhile, and it was a little disappointing. Drinks were pretty pricey, and there was definitely limited seating. Decorations were pretty with lots of plants/succulents though! But you really get a bit intimate with the other party sitting near you b/c the space is so small. read more

I was excited to try urban backyard, but was honestly looking forward to their succulent cupcakes and pastries I saw online. When we walked in I didn't see any sign of them, and the bakery case only had typical coffee shop pastries. After doing more research online it looks like their cupcakes and cakes are only available to pre order. Learned that the hard way. Either way I still got some coffee and went with their seasonal peppermint Candy mocha. I subbed with almond milk. It was very rich with a strong dark chocolate aftertaste. It wasn't my favorite drink but wasn't bad. The space inside is small with only one main table. There's some outdoor seating available as well, but only 2-3 tables. It seems to be more of a grab n go style place. read more
Finally tried the mini succulent cupcakes($4.75 per cupcake). Got the red velvet and dark chocolate. They are really cute but you can literally eat them in one bite! The buttercream was surprising not sweet. The cupcakes itself were ok, were a bit dry. read more

Apparently, each person can only buy up to 6 mini cupcakes if you do walk-in. If you need to buy more, you can order online in advance. I bake sometimes too and I understand that it takes a lot of effort to decorate the cupcakes, but I would appreciate if the order limitation is clearly listed on the website so people can plan ahead. Currently there are four base flavors available: earl grey, dark chocolate, vanilla and matcha. I tried earl grey and vanilla, both base are a bit dry. The butter on the top literally tastes like butter; as for the ratio, it's also a large amount of butter to the tiny mini cupcake base. I have to admit I am disappointed. Hojicha latte was okay at the beginning before any of the ice melted. Once ice starts melting, the hojicha flavor disappears, the only flavor left is diluted milk. read more

A really cute little cafe for a quick pick me up after shopping in Soho. Very limited seating spots so it's definitely more of a to go place - they do have the outdoor seating set up. We got the iced matcha latte and dirty ube latte. The iced matcha was ok - it was pretty much all milk and very little matcha flavor. The ube latte on the other hand was really good. Had really good ube flavor and also just the right ratio of milk. We didn't get a chance to go to the other side of the shop to try the cupcakes but we'll be back next time. read more
Pricey (around $7.50 including tax) but I think that's how much a specialty drink costs nowadays! They make their own ube-coconut mix, and you can really taste the quality and freshness. Seemed like there were bits of real shredded ube. I went around 10am on a Friday, and the succulent cupcakes weren't available. Not sure when they are. I came for the ube latte so didn't mind, but just FYI in case you're coming mainly for the gorgeous cupcakes. read more

To start off, this place is really aesthetically pleasing to look at, although the store front was a tad bit hard to find. Upon getting the cup cakes we unboxed it in front of the store and immediately had 2 families come up to ask to take pictures of the cupcakes. Really pleasing for the eyes, but that's about all there is going for it. Food- 3/5 To say I was disappointed into the cupcakes is an understatement, there was little to no taste to it and the butter they use for the plant overpowered the taste of the cupcake itself. Upon first bite, all I was able to taste was butter. 2 more bites in I finally tasted some of the matcha, but definitely was nothing special. Service- 5/5 Amazing service. When my girlfriend went into pick up the cupcakes, the lady behind the counter was super helpful and enthusiastic. Overall- I wouldn't order the cupcakes to eat again, but I'd definitely go back for pictures. 4/5 read more

Urban Backyard is definitely a hidden gem and we highly recommend to visit if you are in the neighborhood. The decor is tiny but super adorable with cozy & chill ambiance. The options of their pastry and dessert were decent and looked appealing. We got a box of their signature Succulent Cupcakes to share with our friends for a potluck gathering and everyone loves it so much. The cupcakes were delicious & light with proper portion and delicate texture. We really enjoyed them and would definitely visit again for more choices. read more
Urban backyard is a cute coffee shop that sells a variety of unique coffee flavors with a floral accent. We got the iced lavender latte (which was my favorite), the iced vanilla iced latte, and iced ube latte (with espresso). The ube latte doesn't automatically come with espresso, but the cashier was very informative on what I can add. The mini succulent cupcakes were absolutely adorable, although we didn't buy any this time, I definitely will come back to try some! read more
It is an awesome and cute coffee shop. They have really unique drinks like the ube latte and a red velvet latte made with beetroot powder. They also make their own sauces and syrups. The red velvet latte tasted exactly like one! The baristas were also so nice. I really enjoyed their commitment to the theme. They sell sustainable and green products, floral syrups and sauces, and cross stitched art. read more

I have to say the purple ube latte is what drew me to this cute little cafe, and I'm a sucker for anything ube. The ube latte is tasty, mostly of coconut, I wished there were more ube flavorful. We came back here twice on our 1 night trip because they make good lattes and cappuccinos :) read more
very aesthetic cupcakes! i ordered a 12 pack matcha mini succulent cupcakes online, and they were very accommodating when i asked to change date of pickup. when i picked up the cupcakes, the lady behind the counter was so eager to show me the cupcakes and gave me a bag and tips to keep its shape!! great service i opened the box outside and so many people kept commenting on its appearance then a line formed at the cafe LOLOL the cupcakes were okay though. a bit too hard for my liking read more

I've been waiting for the day when I can come back to this place again! For now I'll just have to write a review and reminisce. This coffee shop is such an instagrammable place! I love the decor and love that they keep changing how it looks from the outside to match the season. They are quite earth friendly too using paper-based products, recycling flower pots and have vegan options. I enjoyed my ube latte here so much and cant wait to have some again! I also tried my first oatmilk here and have used it quite frequently now aside from whole milk. Even their mini cupcakes here were a joy to eat! The taste and texture is great and the piping is just amazing! They look so cute and real. Might come out pricey but being in NYC, i kinda expect it. However, since its Urban Backyard, I'll gladly support this business and just indulge myself. read more
A nice little coffee shop with a simple menu of coffee and croissants. In Little Italy there's fancy places but there's also simple ones. Urban Backyard is a very casual feeling place. Kind of like a real backyard. There's limited seating and it gets crowded so it's mostly take it with you. Good stuff here. It basically has coffee and some pastries. My boo found it and we got coffee and croissants, and were impressed with the elegant simpleness. It has a small menu. This is apparently owned by all women. Often there's a feminine touch to coffee. Sorry but I'm not ordering anything with "floral" or "lavender." I ordered a simple latte with almond milk that was good. It's about $3.50 for the regular size. The croissants looked really fluffy and they were very big, the biggest I've ever seen for these. It's about $3 for each. There's also treats like cookies and pastries. It doesn't have any seating inside. Only a wobbly table outside. They are a very sustainable place with ecologically friendly features such as discounts for bringing your own cup and compostable straws and stuff. read more

Sorry, we do not anymore. We used to sell our mini succulent cupcakes in store, however they are only available for pre-order through our website to be picked up in store.

There's only one table right outside, but its super cute and if you are able to get that table it's a great place to study with wifi :)
