originally was suppose to eat elsewhere with my coworkers but they left without me so another coworker suggested that we try this plate. I was a bit skeptical at first because the menu is so big but I went with the grilled grass fed steak sandwich and oh man, it was delicious! I also got a cookie and it was very big and also very good. Its pretty spacious and a great place to go eat with friends. They also have a lot of sauce options so i was trying everything on my sandwich. Definitely coming back to try out other items read more

Now I normally like coming to Urban Plates. I usually don't have an issue with their food. I feel like overall my meal was good but I'm going to use this review to be a bit critical of the main part of the dish. I ordered the Braised Beef and Mushrooms over mash potatoes. I really enjoyed the bread and mushrooms but however the beef itself is where the dish needed improvement. Parts of the beef were really fatty or just lacked flavor. It felt like they didn't season the beef at all and other pieces just didn't break down like I wanted it to. It feels like they didn't let it braise long enough for the beef to soak up the flavor and just melt apart. Other than that, the service was quick and they were friendly. The staff is always helpful and patient. I do love how easy it is to get parking here and it wasn't crowded at all. I would definitely come back and order a different dish but this is usually my go to. read more

10/10 came here to celebrate an early Mother's Day dinner with my mom. First time here and let me say I was beyond impressed with the entire atmosphere. Grandson and I ate there in advance of soccer practice. Grandson got the double cheeseburger and fries and was thrilled with the flavor and destroyed it in short order. I had their Local Beet Salad and it was fantastic. I LOVE the lemon vinaigrette and will make a point of getting here for it again. Ordered to-go today and the food was well packaged and tasted fresh and delicious. My kids enjoyed their dishes and already asked if we could eat here again tomorrow. We ate at the La Jolla location over the weekend and have dined at the Irvine location. We have enjoyed our meals at all these locations. Rating: 2/5 I've always had good experiences at Urban Plates, which is why I recommended it to my family for a casual meal. Unfortunately, this visit was an absolute mess. First, the guy at the register had some odd tics and couldn't stop moving, which made me really uncomfortable. On top of that, he was so slow, mumbling the entire time, and it was nearly impossible to understand him. It didn't make sense to have him working the register alone, as it took forever for everyone to place their orders. I tried to add a side to my sandwich (which comes with chips), and the menu said it was $3 to add a side. The cashier told me it would be $4 to "upgrade" to a side. But I wasn't trying to upgrade -- just add a side. It didn't make sense to charge me extra for taking away my chips. When I asked another employee, she kept arguing that I was trying to upgrade, even after I explained it several times. Finally, we were able to clarify, but it was a frustrating process. To top it off, I ordered a chicken club, but they entered it as a turkey club. My mom also has a dairy allergy and asked for her sandwich with aioli on the side. When her food arrived, it had aioli spread all over, making it inedible for her. The guy who brought out the food also placed her plate on top of a barbecue sauce container, causing the sauce to spill all over the table. He didn't even notice until we pointed it out, even though the plate was literally toppled on the container. They took my mom's food back and brought another one out, but by the time she got her food, the rest of us were already finished. Their excuse was that her fish was well-done, which took longer, but it shouldn't take the entire meal to bring out her order. I feel embarrassed because I told my family this was a good spot, but this experience left me frustrated and disappointed. I expected better service, especially given my past experiences. read more

There was barely any chimichurri sauce, which left the steak tasting fairly plain, and the portion itself was smaller than anticipated. I had came here before the lockdown happened and I did not like the service at all. The cooks were mean and just short with how they talked to me and my best friend (who SWEARS BY THIS PLACE). Fast forward to last night, completely different place and I am overjoyed with this new way of ordering. The cashiers were so nice and you can tell they were happy that were there. All three of the girls were super helpful in suggesting what drinks and desserts to get. I got the banana pie (BOMB) and lemonade (does not have that much sugar, perfect for me). My best friend SWEARS by the grilled steak salad, so we both had to get it. She loves the steak but LOVES the mild jalapeño-lime dressing that comes with the salad!! it definitely looked really good with the steak slices, pineapple mango salsa, jicama, mint, and coconut roasted cashews!! I personally loved the steak itself it was packed with flavor. I recently celebrated my 2-year anniversary with my girlfriend at Urban Plates in Brea, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. We chose to sit outside in the beautifully decorated patio, which had cute succulents on every table and a nice rustic urban environment. It was the perfect setting for a special evening. I ordered the Surf and Turf plate with Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes, paired with the tomato basil soup. Every bite was delicious and perfectly cooked. My girlfriend opted for the steak plate with mashed potatoes and mac and cheese, and she loved every part of it. To top it off, I enjoyed a Mosaic IPA, which complemented the meal wonderfully. The highlight of our evening was the warm and friendly service. Fernando, one of the staff members, went above and beyond by bringing us some cookies and wishing us a happy anniversary. It was a sweet and thoughtful gesture that made our night even more special. Urban Plates is now our go-to spot for special occasions. Highly recommend! read more

This location is a must if you're in the area. The vast selection of food is sure to present an option that will make your stomach start daydreaming. I got the double cheeseburger and sample the Ahi Tuna (thank you to my friend for sharing), and it was sincerely the best of each I've ever had. The burger was so fresh and literally dripping with flavor. The Ahi was seared to perfection (at least to my liking) and left me disappointed that I'll have to head home to make my own sub par tuna. Along with the stellar food the Staff elevated this experience to be one of the most memorable of my vacation. They were all so friendly and from what i could tell genuinely enjoyed their jobs and it translated to my party with ease. Francisco especially was a riot and gave my table quite a couple hearty chuckles. With a combo of amazing food and an even better staff Urban Plates will be the reason I'll be flying back to Cali from the Midwest. 10/10 would recommend. read more

Came to this restaurant for an outdoor dining experience during covid. We were ushered to the cashier where we could order which is different than ordering at the station that would get food from. I was debating between the ahi tuna and the chicken and the gal said the chicken was excellent so I went with that and broccolini and side salad. I asked about the dressing options and was told there was balsamic and opted for that. My receipt said lemon dressing. When my food came out, the guy said they didn't know which lemon dressing I wanted so they included both. Harmless mixup but I guess the cashier should know what they have, right? Anyway, I would gladly come back and try one of their other proteins. I think it is nice they offer a plant based protein option. There was also a guy walking around sanitizing the outdoor tables and even brought us more cups of water which was nice. read more

I ordered the grilled chicken, roasted garlic parmesan mushrooms and the new mac and cheese and I just have to say it was nothing short of amazing. The food came out quick and everything was perfectly hot as to not burn your mouth but to taste so much better when you actually eat it. One of their best employees Francisco was there once we were done to take our places and utensils as to free us from the task! Francisco made sure we were taken care of and only made this trip to urban plates an even better experience. I WILL be coming back again if not for the food for francisco! The deserts were also all freshly baked in the morning so definitely don't miss out on a delicious warm cookie for your lunch. Tried Urban Plates for the first time in Brea. Excellent food and service from Erin that helped us with ordering to Cisco who cleared our plates when we were finished. We told Cisco it was our first time trying the food and he told us a little about the history of Urban Plates and its founder. We each had the chicken tenders, broccoli, and roasted marble potatoes. The tenders were prepared in a little different way, I'm sure to keep the calorie count low but they were delicious and probably the largest tenders I've ever had. I got the three tender plate but next time if I get tenders I'll get the two piece. Very generous portions and the price for the two meals was more than fair for the amount and quality of food. This spot is perfect if you want to meal prep especially during these times (COVID) and I am so glad. I take food home and I been coming here on Thursday's to work on my laptop and I can see how clean the staff is. I am here at least 4 hours and I constantly see the staff clean the tables. The girls in front are always so helpful offering me refills of my delicious green tea with mint and making sure my experience is good. They offer me the same excellent service each Thursday. I do recommend the steak salad and asking to get it cooked a little more since sometimes it's too bloody. Overall, the salad is amazing! Besides that i think the girls and the entire team do a great job and I am thankful I can work somewhere else besides at home. read more

I eat here everyday during the workweek, not joking. The food here is real food (though some offerings do contain seed oils like canola so be advised) like the steak and fish plates (also the soups are amazing, I dream of the tomato basil sometimes). However, I don't think I'd come as much as I did even with the food if it wasn't for the people here. Jay and Martin especially, the first time I came here Jay and I talked like we've known each other for years (and bonded over our love for Outkast and UGK). When I see Jay, I know it's going to be a good day! If he wasn't there I don't think I'd go as much. Place is always beautiful, atmosphere is warm and inviting. Urban Plates is the embodiment of farmed-fresh to the plate. In short, fresh. For lunch, I enjoyed - devoured - the Braised Beef & Mushrooms with my choice of a side of mashed potatoes. A spoon of tender beef, carrots, and mushroom complimented by the mashed potatoes was...chef's kiss! I also tasted the Nashville Hot Tender Sandwich, Chimichurri Steak, and the 4-up (Beets, Tomato Soup, Broccoli, and Brussels sprouts). I LOVED the food and the steak was well cooked along with the mushrooms and the fries! The mushrooms were worth the +1$ as I don't even like mushrooms, and I scraped these off the plate! The steak was a nice Medium Rare along with the fries being crispy on the outside and nice and warm on the inside. Our dessert consisted of a sour yet sweet drink along with 2 cookies that are as big as my hand! The casual atmosphere and the friendly staff really made our meal! Had an amazing experience at Urban! I ordered the chimichurri steak with mashed potatoes and broccolini, and everything was absolutely delicious. I've eaten at this restaurant many times and have been very pleased with the food and service. I like that the salads are fully customizable and there are a wide variety of sides for entrees. They even have good kids meal options, which is hard to find at restaurants (especially when you want healthy meals that kids will actually eat). Sometimes the lines can back up a bit if staffing isn't high enough to keep up with the crowd. One day we had to wait over 15 minutes for a salad; I was delayed so far that my dad and I had to pay separately from the rest of our group because everyone else was so far ahead. read more

I always enjoy visiting Urban Plate to get my meals - they have a variety of different dishes that can satisfy any craving. The staff are always friendly and helpful, and the portions are generous. Jay checked on us frequently, and I was able to say Hello to Alex whom I have met in the SD Mission Valley location. Urban Plates has been one of my very favorite places to eat since I discovered them in La Jolla across the high way from my church's Temple.
