I was first introduced to Urban Plates in their Playa del Rey location back down in my old SoCal spot. They became my go-to lunch/dinner spot since it was good and delicious. Thus, when I moved back to the Bay last year - I was pleasantly surprised to find that they finally have a location up here! Of course, I had to give it a go since I wanted to be sure that it was the same as in LA. Thankfully, it was! The location is ideal since it allows for plenty of parking spaces and it's free! I still favor the ambiance in Playa location but this suffices. The staff is friendly and helpful. No reservations are needed and I usually opt to get food delivered via their app ordering system. Though a fair warning, sometimes they forget to deliver all your food orders so just be mindful of what you order. Definitely check it out and if you're ever in LA - their locations tend to have more of a variety down south. read more

Service is fast. We got our food within 5 minutes. There's plenty of seating inside and outdoors. When I got my food I initially thought it didn't look that appetizing but the steak was great. The Brussels spouts were soft and flavorful. The toast I would skip next time. read more

Enjoyed taking my good friend for over 30 years, and my daughter here, for my friend's birthday brunch on a Sunday. The food was excellent and fresh. We all had salads - my friend and I had the chicken cob... The chicken was absolutely delightful! A wonderful somewhat smoked (maybe) flavor fresh and tender and quite a bit of it! As well as a hard boiled egg, half an avocado, blue cheese crumbles, organic tomatoes, and turkey bacon, nicely done - lovely spring lettuce... Just an awesome salad. My daughter got a nice piece of salmon on her salad... And the salmon was quite a sizable piece and done well. The atmosphere was perfect and not overly crowded but a lovely group of customers, so it wasn't a baron place. It's nice and open feeling and we were not rushed, which is what we really needed for a nice occasion. (You order first and then you find a table and they bring it to you). It made such a perfect place to go for brunch, and the other options I was thinking of we're closed on Sundays! Do try this place for a lovely meal and time. read more

I'm really sad to have to write such a poor review. I really like coming here but today when I came here with my husband and daughter there was no one at the checkout counter. So I decided to order table side on the app. It said our food would be delivered at 6:48 p.m. and we didn't get it till 6:57 p.m. and everyone who came in after us that was able to order with somebody at the checkout counter got their food before us. I went to go talk to the kitchen staff and ask how much longer for our food they said 3 more minutes with no compensation of us having to wait longer to get our food. And that's sad because there was nobody here in the restaurant only got in it was really empty and quiet you would assume we would have been helped quickly. read more

Second time here and the experience was just as good as last time! Urban plates is a casual seat yourself restaurant with a modern urban vibe. They have ample indoor and outdoor seating options depending on your preference. If you have dietary restrictions, this is a great option for you. I love that the menu specifies items that are dairy free, gluten free, vegan, ect. The ability to build your plate and choose from a huge selection of sides accommodates any dietary restrictions you may have. The food is great quality as well. Everything is fresh and essentially farm to fork. Perfect place to have a lunch meeting, or casual date night with your significant other. I know I'm on a roll for saying this, but.... I have a feeling urban plates will become a regular stop for us. If you haven't checked this place out yet, run don't walk! It will be worth it! read more

So this review is strictly for their new Caribbean salad. I ordered from here for a work day lunch and thought I would try this new item. The wait for pickup was long but that was understandable since it was lunch time. But by the time I got back to the office and opened my lunch, my mouth dropped to the floor. It was barely even a handful of lettuce and some tortilla strips. Was supposed to come with mango and jicama and I think I got one small item of each total. First time eating here and we were not disappointed! The vibe is a little weird but who cares about decor when they make your order fresh! They have a lot of choices, like a lot. We were overwhelmed with what to try for our first visit but thankfully Nico, who was taking our orders, was there to help us. He gave us a really great rundown of what are the best picks for protein and what sides complement it. He gave us samples of the drinks to help us decide and was so friendly and patient. Everything we ordered ended up being delicious. Plus free refills on drinks...what?!! You order at the counter and they will bring your order to the table. The place is very clean and well organized so you're not searching for condiments or napkins. They have a free water station which is always nice. The bathrooms were very clean and smelled nice. They have a lot of seating areas and a really nice outdoor patio. Had the weather been nicer, we would have sat outside but it was too cold. Speaking of cold, the only downside was it was FREEZING in the restaurant which takes away from the experience. Especially because it was cold outside. The ac made our food cold pretty quick after it was served but other than that, it was a great experience. Also, they give military discount. You order up front then they give you a number for you to bring it to the the table of your choice so they can identify where to bring your meal. I got the portobello mushroom sandwich and my bf got the steak meal, everything was perfect and delicious! Everything was seasoned really nicely. I loved my sandwich and my fries were nice and crispy, but we were obsessed with the brussel sprouts that was part of the steak dish, the flavors of it was out of the world and I could totally just eat a whole plate of it. Great food, nice choices for vegetarian and vegan diet; very nice service; so try it!

I'm a long time Urban Plates fan but my recent visit felt a bit off. Not sure if they redid their recipes or switched up the menu, but it it seemed to be more American BBQ-esque, rather than California farm to table cuisine. First off, the moment I entered the restaurant, I was hit with a huge gust of smoke. Not sure what was going on with their vents but all this smokiness persisted. Luckily, they have ample outdoor seating. I tried their spicy chicken tenders per the cashier's recommendation and this was saucy, smoky, and packed a good amount of heat. If you like your tenders wet and smothered with Nashville hot sauce, this is all of that. Some parts of the chicken were significantly dryer than others but overall it wasn't too dry. Their selection of sides is good as always, I'll probably stick to ordering the 4 up (choose four sides) or one of my go-tos next time. read more

Urban Plates is a very cute, rustic, countertop service restaurant. I really like the decor and lighting in here. The menu is huge and offers some pretty great options. I played it kind of safe and ordered the chicken tenders with mac n cheese and mushroom stuffing. Tenders were nicely seasoned. The mac was pretty flavorless. The stuffing needed more texture rather than mush, but had a good flavor. If I came again I'd probably want to try the Chili tofu and get some vegetables sides instead. My mom's chicken sandwich was also just okay. Serves craft sodas, and water is self serve. It wasn't bad. read more

I ordered this from GrubHub. It can be a challenge to find food that stands up to the transport time. I got a half sandwich, a salad, some soup, and a side of mac and cheese. More than I needed but I felt like sampling. The half sandwich was amazing. The steak was tender the tomatoes wear flavorful, the bread was great and crispy. The salad was fresh and tasty and the soup and sampling of mac and cheese were great too. read more

They are now using Extra Virgin Olive Oil which is heart healthy. In the above review you notice it is three years old. A few months after that review they got a new manager and they went back to using extra-virgin olive oil. We love Urban Plates and Dublin. Oh my goodness! I'm so disappointed. In the past, I've had a great experience here. The food was fresh and delicious, but not today. Their Brussels sprouts used to be nicely roasted with charred bits. Today they seemed to have been microwaved with some balsamic sauce just drizzled on them. The grass fed chimichurri steak looked like it been sitting for quite awhile under a warmer. My friend ordered the broccolini, which also seemed to have been microwaved. We were both very disappointed with our meals. Unfortunately I won't be returning. :-( read more

First time here since the pandemic started. Now you just order at the counter and they bring food to your table. Pre- Covid you would walk through the food stations and choose your food and carry your tray to the table. I think I like this format better. Food came pretty quickly nice and hot. All the staff were very nice. Restaurant is cleaner than pre-Covid. Good to be back. Food was good still. We had the grilled chicken and Moroccan chicken stew. Came into Urban Plates for a quick healthy bite with our nephew and daughter. $63 for a Cheeseburger with fries, a Salmon Plate with Mashed potatoes and Mac and Cheese, and a steak plate with broccolini and roasted potatoes. The salmon was slightly fishy and the Mac and cheese left much to be desired. The portion of the steak couldn't have exceeded 6 oz and the chimichurri drizzled on top might have been 99% olive oil, very bland. Restaurant is modern, beautiful with lots of indoor & outdoor seating. When I worked nearby we went there often, especially in groups. I like the selection of sauces and veggie sides. Their Chicken Club snd grilled beef with chimichurri sauce is good and salads are large & fresh. I really like their blue cheese dressing and their herb (dill?) dipping sauce. For the not so great, I've had their chicken strips more often than I'd like thanks to the Babes who always chooses strips with Mac & cheese and rarely eats the strips. Often they're dry, even when slathered in Memphis Hot Sauce or dressing. I'm also not a fan of their Mac & cheese which has a grainy texture to the sauce. Located in the busy area off of Hacienda, restaurant is on the corner one block from 580. Food has to be good to survive amongst all the competition. Stick with the grilled or baked meats, veggies & salads and you won't go wrong. read more

From overall experience, knowing that it's a franchise this place gets a 5 stars for the location, ambience & design, service, food amount, and quality (salad was a bit salty), friendliness, even variety of options to choose your preferred seating. Selecting the place a family member suggested that "I know the place that you might like!". Came over and it was a spot on. From the big menu by the entrance to coming in and Nicolas recommending us what to pick, event for our 16 month old daughter was a very pleasant experience. We were given a number and food was served at our table at no time. After getting water and utensils, we walked around the facility and found out that we can sit inside with a few different options (high or low tables, private or company style), as well as two outside patios (fully covered and just shaded). Wall deco was interesting as well. Bathrooms, clean, spacious and modern. By the time we washed hands, our table was served with food. The taste was fine, not more not less. Cesar was a bit on the salty side, and I believe that was due to the Parmesan that was over it. Soup was extremely hot in the beginning and cooled off at no time. Can I highly recommend the 4UP plate with wide variety of options to choose from. (Garlic Parmesan Cremini and oyster, Beet salads with Goat Cheese, Maple Butternut Squash with toast, Red and white quinoa tomato). Highly recommend!
