I just finished eating here with my husband. I had the chicken tortilla soup, corn on the cob and the green tea drink. My husband had the chicken tenders, mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts and the cantaloupe drink; for dessert we ordered the chocolate and vanilla cake by the slice and it was given to us in a clear container. It was already prepackaged. My soup was alright and white sauce on the corn tasted a little sour but no big deal. I finally get to my dessert and to my surprise it tasted like nothing so I looked at it to make sure it was a chocolate cake when I saw MOLD ON THE CAKE!!!!!!! We went to the cashier and they offered a refund or another slice of cake and acted like it was a normal thing that happens everyday. Why would I want another slice? The first cashier who took our order was a woman and she wasn't the nicest. Place looks nice and clean but one of the ladies cleaning the tables was being rude to another family and she kept telling the male workers there that she was doing their job. I've come to Urban plates twice now and absolutely love love their food and restaurant. The restaurant itself is beautiful decor on the inside and has a covered and heated patio out front and another outdoor seating area to the side where the parking lot is. Indoors is very spacious and lots of seating accommodations. The restaurant is very casual where you order your food up at the register, take a number, then pick a table to eat at. The food come so fast! I'm amazed how fast their service is. It felt like as soon as I got a table, the food was served already. The place is very kid friendly which is why we chose to come here. We have a 4 month old who enjoyed eating here with us too. For the food, I've had the Moroccan Chicken Braise, Chicken Caesar Salad, Beef and Mushroom braise stew, Chimichurri Steak plate, and Chicken 3 tenders. The Moroccan Chicken was decent. The stew had good flavor and was not overpowering. It could have a bit more Moroccan spice though which would have mad it a bit more authentic, but the chicken was tender and good overall. Chicken Caesar salad is delicious. The chicken was so soft and tender. I was shocked how good the chicken was for being chicken breast. The vinaigrette and dressing that was put on the salad was so delicious too. I loved this dish. It was so simple but so good. We'll worth the $10! The braised beef and mushroom dish was not bad either. I liked the consistency of the stew and the flavor profile. It was not too strong but good light flavor. This goes well with potatoes on the side. The chimichurri steak is one of my favorites. It's one of their priciest dishes at $17 but is well worth it. The steak is cooked to medium rare perfectly and The chimichurri sauce was delicious! It pairs with the beef perfectly. Their are a few favorites I like for sides. The sautéed cauliflower rice is super delicious. The quinoa is well flavored really good too. The one side I was not impressed with is the Mac and cheese. It was not flavorful and underwhelming. Service was good. If you have any left-overs you go to a self serve table to get the to go boxes, utensils, & napkins. It was a day for an all beef meal, so 2 orders of Braised Beef & Mushroom with either mashed potato or brown rice was ordered off of the $10 menu. The Braised Beef was reasonable for the amount of food you get, but not quite as tender as a truly braised beef. The next beef dish was the Grilled Grass Fed Beef w.Feta. The beef-was a bit tough & against my better judgement, I should have chosen chicken. I would have liked my bread toasted a little, so when I received this pale piece of bread I was a little disappointed. Urban Plates is a modern counter-service chain restaurant with a diverse menu of healthy plates, salads, sandwiches, and braises, making for a nice place for a casual meal. The plates came with a choice of protein and sides, and I tried the Roasted Barramundi Sea Bass topped with an herb dressing, and the Grilled Salmon (which was unfortunately dry and overcooked). For my sides, the Macaroni & Cheese was made of overcooked pasta in a soupy cheese sauce; the Roasted Mushrooms with Garlic Parmesan had a meaty texture and umami flavor; the Brussels Sprouts were roasted with onions and dressed with a balsamic glaze; the Roasted Sweet Potatoes were hard and undercooked; and my favorite was the Beet Salad with Goat Cheese, which had a nice balance of sweet, savory, and acidic flavors. I chose the side salad and roasted old bay potatoes, and my partner got the mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Good serving of medium-rare sliced steak. I enjoyed the fresh side salad and the texture of the old bay potatoes but the potato flavor was a little off -- not sure what was going on, but it had a lot of heat (I enjoy spicy food and have quite a high spice tolerance but this felt like someone accidentally over-spiced the potatoes). I normally get the steak with chimichuri so I decided to try the chicken out to see if it still had the same great taste. It sure was juicy and seasoned well. My dish also came with a slice of bread and two sides of my choice. I decided to go with the cauliflower rice and the mac & cheese. Both were really tasty and the cauliflower was different but still great tasting. The bread was super soft and moist baked fresh just how I like it too! Service was great and my order was ready to go within a few minutes. They are also on doordash for those who want the delivery service or ready for pick up. I was so saddened by this meal. Normally I love urban plates, but today my steak looked, tasted and had the texture of leather. It was so overcooked that it was actually GREY in color :( brussel sprouts were soggy and the Mac n cheese was watery. They also give you the tiniest container of gravy for mashed potatoes. I would give one star, but the hummingbird cake wasn't terrible.. still not as good as it usually is. It wasn't as moist and seemed a little stale. Came in on a Saturday, drove from Sacramento just to try this place out (yes, really). The space is really cool inside, the decor very inviting. We walked up and ordered, the staff were all super friendly and helpful. The adults got the steak plate with chimichurri, with double brussels for the sides. Kids got mac and cheese meal with fries, and chicken tenders with fries. I'll start with the negatives as they're minor and overall didn't affect my rating. The steak was pretty much cold when it arrived, and the brussels could have been a bit warmer as well. In addition, the bread was a bit on the stale side. Both kids also complained that the chicken tenders were spicy, but I didn't try them to see for myself. Now, food temperature aside this meal contained some of the best tasting items I've ever consumed in a fast casual restaurant such as Urban Plates. You can taste the char on the steak, but the cook inside is just enough to keep it from being dry and killing off the flavor of that grass fed beef. The brussels are flavorful and thankfully not undercooked as so many restaurants tend to do. Their "ranch" is far from the traditional dipping sauce, featuring a thicker consistency and a less tangy heavy dill flavor. The kids mac and cheese was very good, even to us adults. Not sure if this is the mac they serve across both menus but it was very flavorful. The price is on the higher side for a fast casual restaurant but it's worth it for the quality. The food here is fabulous, and there is a lot of variety, take a peek at the menu before heading over. If you aren't trying to grab lunch on your lunch hour, don't show up at lunchtime M-F because they're super busy due to all the office buildings nearby. The lines get long. Really long. I'm glad we stayed because it was worth the wait. The menu on the walls is annoyingly tiny, so go ahead and use the QR scanner. What an extensive menu. Very impressive. I had a little bit of sensory overload because there were a quite few different stations. The main ordering spot, the grab and go, the self service utensils, and another little station with complimentary water. There were people and noise everywhere, so my brain did that little thing where I have to wrangle the squirrels and ping pong balls just to focus. BUT, I survived and placed our order. They were handing out little sealed samples of a beverage that they serve. My kids were thoroughly impressed with the free gift. I found the food to be very tasty!. The bread on the sandwiches and burgers was very fresh. Everything was high quality. Much better than most of the casual dining and take out places. Unfortunately, I forgot to say no mayo on my chicken sandwich, but I still ate it. I guess I just wasn't on top of my game because I decided to go with chips rather than fries. I don't even know why I did that. I took some of my husband's fries and they were delicious. The chips were greasy, boring, and flavorless. I thought they would have some herbs, exotic potatoes, or special seasoning because everything else here is better than ordinary. I really let my imagination get the best of me sometimes. No, those chips were a complete waste of plate space! My fault entirely though. One of my kids said that the chicken strips were too spicy. They were seasoned with black pepper, and that's too bad for the offspring because I thought they tasted great. My daughter was disappointed because she ordered mashed potatoes and she didn't realize that they'd come with gravy. I enjoyed the gravy, sorry kid. There are a lot of tempting options, especially the salads. I'm already looking forward to coming back (without the kids). I also want to mention that I had a coconut pineapple beverage that was absolutely outstanding. It was cool, creamy, and just sweet enough. To end the meal, I ordered a coffee with a splash of cream and a packet of sugar. They were out of cream. :c I think it would be easy enough for them to order/buy some. I will confess that the black coffee was fresh and oh so delicious. The service was good during our initial order. When I went back for my Coffee, I was helped by a young man named Myron and he was top notch. Super polite and helpful. He offered me a cookie because I was bummed that they were out of cream. (He even laughed when I said "I'm disappointed, but I'm not going to freak out." I'm glad that he has a good sense of humor because I didn't even mean to say that out loud. It was a hearty dish that reminded me of cozy chicken dinners we make out of our crock pot sometimes. Beet and Avocado bowl- colorful, quinoa based dish. It was very tasty but also light and healthy. Seriously such an amazing deal that these dishes were $10! From their plates menu I ordered the Meatless Loaf- SO AMAZING! I loved the texture which was both soft and juicy but also had some grit to it. It's quinoa, black bean based. You get two pick two sides and there are so many amazing sides to choose from! I ordered on their website for pick-up. Not the easiest website to navigate and could be streamlined a little, but it was fine. This location made pick-up a cinch. Packages are really nicely sealed, lined up on the shelves. They even have water in lidded plastic cups for you to grab as well. Almost forgot to mention- I got their passion fruit coconut lime drink that was also AMAZING. A good choice for a quick lunch. It's a bit on the pricier end, but they have a lot of options on their menu which is nice! I visited for the first time with my partner and came in just as they opened. Atmosphere was nice and the employees were equally as welcoming. We ordered a nashville hot tender sandwich and a grilled grass fed steak with a side of mac n cheese and mashed potatoes (I did want the chimichurri version, but I didn't realize that the cashier didn't hear that until I got my order unfortunately). The nashville hot tender sandwich was flavorful and moist. The bread was a little dry, but the sauces from the tenders made up for it. Chips were pretty basic as you'd expect. The steak came with a side of bread (in addition to the mac n cheese and mashed potatoes, you get to select your own two sides with this dish!). The steak was a bit on the chewier end for some pieces which made it a little harder to eat. The mashed potatoes and bread were good, but the mac and cheese was pretty bland (would probably suggest people pass on it!) which was a little saddening. Overall though, it was a decent restaurant but I don't see myself coming here frequently. read more

I like the way you can scan and order online at your table if you don't want to walk up to the counter. Very COVID safe. Lots of seating indoors and outdoors, for small and big groups! I would also say the menu is good for everyone in a group - vegan and vegetarian options, kids' options, there's something for everyone here. One thing I would say - the grilled steak this time was a bit more raw than it usually is. Still edible but usually it's more medium rare! All in all, pretty solid place. It feels like a upscale food court. You need to order first and then you could sit at your table and then your meal will be served to you at your table. It had pretty classic American food but then also some options for vegans and vegetarians as well. I think if you're looking for something that is really consistent, tasty, and a service is really quick. Quick. I would recommend this place!
