The ambiance here is EVER-Y-THING. Urban Roast is an absolutely gorgeous/flirty place. Quickly looking from the outside, you wouldn't be able to tell that all that floral beauty and intentional thought to decor was inside their establishment. When I walked in, my immediate words/reaction was "wow, this is beautiful"! I literally was sold on this place solely from the decor. The level of vision and thought they put into this place is pretty impressive. And, they literally kept the same energy in every room, EVEN the restroom! The service. Upon entry, we were greeted warmly and seated once we were ready. The hostess even offered to take our group pictures. Additionally, our waitress was attentive and always readily available. The food. Well, first, a major disclaimer. I've came to the conclusion that my southern taste buds are hard to impress in the DMV area. Due to this, this is what causes the establishment to be four stars, in my opinion. The ambiance is definitely easily a five, but the food is average to me... a rating of three, causing my overall rating to be four stars. So, we had the charcuterie board which was absolutely massive! You definitely get the portion you pay for. The crab dip (not captured), was giving more mashed potato flavoring to me. I wasn't really a fan, but once again that may just be due to my experiences with crab dips I've had back in Houston. Absolute worst dining experience of my life. don't bother getting a reservation because there will be no one at the host stand and everyone seats themselves. Anyways they have their employees gossiping and chitchatting right in front of you while they ignore you and let your drinks melt and get watered down sitting at the bar. the food was overpriced, and the buffalo chicken dip was straight from a package and cold in the middle the "chips" on the side were Lays chips. you'd literally be better off buying an air fryer and getting anything from the frozen aisle because that is probably the same amount of money and the same amount of value. The drinks were not only watered down and weak but filled with simple syrup, even with it being a spicy margarita, I've actually never been so disappointed by a dining experience in my life. They definitely mastered the Instagram vibe here. The inside is super pretty! Flowers all over the walls and had a really cool vibe. Staff was friendly and helpful. The toast platter was large, adorable and delicious. I felt like there was a fair amount of food for the price and loves the fruit garnish. Urban Roast is a non negotiable stop for all of my visitors. The seasonal decorations cover every inch of the store, and I am the biggest fan of their fire tables outside. While the food isn't great, they really are more of a bar with great ambiance and they have a lot of good drink options. I enjoy the fojito and mango mocktail, but the hot choc is good too. I discovered UR on a DC's best hot chocolate list in 2023, but I stay for the s'mores at the fire tables. It's a great photo spot and great place to chat and laugh with friends outside. Imagine being told you're being held responsible for the bar being behind. Wow. The customer service was very disappointing. Our server brought our bill 30 minutes prior to our reservation time ending. As we inquired about making additional orders, we were told by the server & the manager that the bar is behind 20 minutes which means, we are unable to place additional orders 30 minutes prior to our reservation time ending. As someone who has been to several establishments where a reservation was needed- this has never been an issue and I was very confused as to why we were not allowed to order more items when our reservation did not end until 30 minutes later. Then, there was the fact the none of the guest took off their winter coats and ALL of the food items coming out, were cold. So while no heater or warmth was offered, it was a Christmas Eve frozen brunch. As mentioned earlier, this was supposed to be a milestone birthday for someone special and they were completely turned off by their cold tea and the terrible meal you see in the review picture. What was supposed to be a Belgian waffle topped with cream was a plate of cream and no waffles. Seriously??? How was this even possible. None of the guest in our party enjoyed their food but the worst part of it all was trying to prevent the birthday lady from suffering any longer in a cold ambiance, drinking cold "warm" beverages and terrible food. Did our party complain? Absolutely! Was something done to offer support? Nope! More tea was brought out and another order of potatoes were served to make up for one of the orders. Then there was spacing...you're literally paying to dine on the backs of other guest...The person behind us was literally on our backs and there was little to no room to breathe or move. Poor setup! I wish this wasn't the experience that I had to report on this place. But, it was a special person's birthday and a first time visit for the entire party. Nobody was pleased at all! It's a cute idea. We got the waffle board the and the rise shine. The waffle board came with Nutella, fresh fruit, syrup and peanut butter. The rise & shine came with sausage, bacon, home fries, apple filled donuts and fruit. It was three of us and was more than enough food. The food was good and we enjoyed it all. Here's where they fell short, to do unlimited mimosas, everyone at the table must get them. On this particular day, I actually didn't want mimosas because I wanted to try a variety of their seasonal drinks. Unfortunately, if I didn't it get my friends couldn't. We tried explaining to our waitress and letting her know I planned on ordering my own drinks but she said it was a strict rule with no exceptions and that the managers "check the cameras." which seems extremely excessive. I know this rule is kind of common, but I've never been to a restaurant that was so strict about it. Usually if most of the table is doing it they don't mind. This led to me only trying one other drink since It would be too much with the unlimited mimosas. I did get the dark chocolate espresso martini and enjoyed it. There is also only a 90 minute seat time. Not just for the unlimited mimosas, you only can be at the table for 90 minutes. This is a bit off-putting. Usually it's a two hour limit. And they once again were strict about. Our waitress kept coming by letting us know how much time we had, like a count down. "You have only 40 minutes left... you have 25 minutes left... you have 10 minutes left." Sheesh. Our waitress was nice though, and it was clear she was only doing what she was being told. Overall, our experience was okay. The decor and vibe is worth a visit. While drinks are expensive they are def worth a try. The atmosphere is definitely five stars! Christmas decorations galore. My group thought it would be a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon in early December to hang out and catch more of the Christmas spirit. We had a 4 o'clock reservation and the place was jampacked. We waited a few minutes for our table. No big deal. We took some pictures in front of the Christmas trees in an area designated for that purpose. Speaking of purpose we went specifically for holiday, cocktails, and small plates/starters. The cheeseboard was terrific as was the buffalo chicken dip, and the jalapeño popper dip. The short rib dip was not all that, not bad, but not as good as the jalapeño dip, that was a group favorite. As for the drinks, they came out one or two at a time for a party of five and one of them was the wrong drink, so more waiting. My peppermint white chocolate espresso martini tasted just like a regular espresso martini so it was good, but I didn't understand what I paid the extra three dollars for, but my second drink, a sex and the city Martini was delicious. Sadly, my experience was less than ideal because our waitress asked about food allergies but my friend was not informed about how a supply shortage would impact our order and it left room for a potential reaction. The manager was kind enough to apologize and offer another meal to my friend. Overall I would say it's the aesthetic that draws people in. We tried Urban Roast because we saw it on IG. They have a bunch of instagramable spots in the restaurant. Unfortunately, I'd say the main dining room isn't that photogenic. I've been meaning to check out Urban Roast for some time and I'm happy that my first visit exceeded expectations. Having dinner during a week of on and off snow was great choice because although the restaurant was busy it wasn't overcrowded. You can't miss what season it is given the extensive decor throughout the space and February is around the corner. The roses and red lighting were a cute touch. I decided to visit for the winter restaurant week and the food was great. App: The guacamole was good - classic style seasoning. Main: the surf and turf was tasty. I wasn't a fan of the dollop of tartar(?) sauce on the crab cake but that's personal preference, it wasn't enough to completely throw me off. I'm mentioned the sauce just in case someone else would prefer to ask for it on the side or not at all. Overall the crab cake was really good. The flank steak was cooked medium as requested and seasoned well. The buttered asparagus was buttered asparagus lol and went well with the plate. My friend had the grilled salmon which is served on baby spinach and other veggies and topped with a butter chipotle sauce - it was really good. I'll just say that both of our plates were empty at the end of the meal. Dessert: I tried the carrot cake, not bad but not great and although I'm a chocolate cake girl, I appreciate a good carrot cake and this one was fair. The vanilla gelato with the caramel drizzle was good. If we weren't full from dinner we would've finished the slice. I tried the Lavender Lemonade and although the blue bottom looks like the design of the glass, no thats syrup and STIR THE DRINK BEFORE SIPPING. Wow that drink was sour. It was sour in a good way but sour none the less. Our server warned me that it would be sweet but I had to let him know it was more sour and we shared a laugh about how many people order the drink and accidentally get that mouth full of syrup. He said they do it for the presentation but I suggest they just give it a swirl or brief shake before serving and let the customers know to stir. There is a separate bar area that looks like a cozy nook with screens of fireplaces and bookshelves. The upstairs bar area was closed but we were told it's simply additional bar space. This review is strictly based on perceivable discrimination experienced based upon entering on 1/15/24 (MLK day). The restaurant was not full when my boyfriend and I entered. We were asked if we had reservations which we did not. Then the hostess proceeded to walk us past the front dining hall to a section in the back of the restaurant. Ironically, everyone seated in the back happened to be AA. It made my boyfriend and I very uneasy. I asked the hostess if we could be seated in the front where other people were seated and she said of course. She moved us back to the front, but the situation had already left a bad taste in our mouth. I asked to speak to a manager because I believe we were intentionally placed in the back with other darker African Americans as to not be viewed in the front. The supposed manager came to talk to us and I ask him pointedly why we were sat in the back when there were plenty of seats in the front. He claimed that they usually seat parties of two in the back and there were only two servers on and it would be "easier for them" if we were in the back...,We didn't buy his reasoning, and I believe this must be a practice they engage in with customers of a certain complexion. Wow, this was incredibly horrible in every sense other than the decor. We waited 30 minutes for a table WITH a reservation. It took another 40 minutes to get our drinks (!). When we did get our drinks, half the orders for "spiked" drinks didn't have any alcohol in them. If you're like me and love s'mores at any season, you must go to Urban Roast :) I am quite a regular here and anytime my friends are in town I always take them here because there is a ton of seating availability and the service is always amazing, and finally the decorations are always perfect! They decorate for the holiday's and it always impresses me because it's amazing. I have tried all the s'mores flavors during my many visits and I think they are all amazing, but the classic is just never a wrong choice - highly recommend trying the other options if you are looking for something fun. The s'mores can serve 2 people OR 1 if you came ready to devour some dessert!! I haven't really tried their food except the buffalo chicken dip, which I thought was OK - I really come here for the ambiance, drinks and s'mores! The drinks are always amazing, there is literally no wrong choice. I love the sex and the city martini. If you're looking for some fun shooters, The Roast Shooter is really delicious - especially if you like fireball! If you are coming for the s'mores you will have to sit outside because that is where they have the fire pits - they are individualized so it's one fire for your party. This place is one of those restaurants that's hyped up and a huge let down when you get in. If you'd like to visit and sit indoors, highly recommend making a reservation for standard seating. If you don't mind sitting outside, they're able to get you in within an hour. The hostesses were friendly, but we didn't receive a lot of attention from the waiter. The place is understaffed, so understandably, he couldn't come around and ask us if we needed anything. This makes ordering difficult. The food was the main reason why this place was mediocre. My guess is that the food isn't fresh, probably frozen. It tasted like the Stouffer's lasagna you get at the grocery store. It's located across the street from the DC public library and parking sucked. Not the fault of the restaurant Let's talk about this spot First, it's in your best interest to make a reservation and make sure you get an outside table on the reservation landing page. This is a crucial part of the experience. I would recommend Ubering in. We went down, were seated outside at a "fire pit". Our server was Amazing. She was friendly, articulate and helpful. Also, she gave great recommendations. The fire pits are small but you can control the level of the flame and this is important if you get the s'mores. I do recommend this because it's a fire pit in the middle of the city so why go there and not do this. I would also recommend talking a jacket. It's in a wind tunnel of buildings. The drinks menu is super long so study the menu before you go. They have martinis and cocktails but they serve big drinks so keep that in mind when ordering Food was great but expensive. Get the s'mores not the chicken wings. Also, they don't have a lot of vegetarian options. Over all I will see this place is good for the experience but it's not going to be your hang out. Good for tik toks and the one off visit. Speaking of which there's a lot of great places to take pics so dress up. I recently grabbed drinks and appetizers at Urban Roast and overall had a decent experience. The decor was decked out for the holiday season, which was great for pictures. The restaurant could be laid out a bit better though it was pretty small and choppy. The service was okay, we had a bit of a wait and never received a text message like we were suppose to. We kept checking in with the hostess and then finally seated. The buffalo chicken dip was good. I'd go back for drinks in the future. read more

We had a great girls day out catching up at Urban Roast in DC! I loved the fire pits that they had setup to roast s'mores. It's beautiful in the inside with all of the flowers on the ceilings and walls. We had a ton of photo opportunities. I loved their meat, bread, and fruit charcuterie board as well; it was so delicious and wasn't extra heavy on our stomachs. Overall, the food and service were great! read more

While I don't always trust the internet, Urban Roast looked like a perfect spot for a meal before going to a party on Instagram. The vibes, however, did not live up. After making a reservation, I still had to wait 25 minutes and was seated outside. When it began to pour halfway through my meal, the waiters all went inside but didn't return to our table to help us or offer to move us inside. After we asked to do so, they helped move our food, which was pretty wet. Once inside, the vibes still didn't match what I had expected from Instagram!
