Yelp led me to choose Urbane Cafe We both opted for salads. I picked the ahi tuna. My associate chose the Santa Maria BBQ. Customer service was excellent. The ambiance is casual, fast food -esq. for an informal business meeting it was absolutely perfect. Quiet enough to have a pleasant conversation but not so quiet that we felt uncomfortable discussing business. The food was excellent. The salads were fresh and full of flavor. I have been so impressed with my experience for over a year now. My first encounter was having a cold salad. It was absolutely on point and delicious and hand-delivered to my table by Jimmy. I love the pickled onions, Fresno peppers, and sauce combo. One of the best things about Urbane Cafe is their house made focaccia bread. It's always fresh and fluffy! I also recently have been loving their mango lemonade. The guava one is also really good. A hidden gem at Urbane Cafe is their cookies! They are freshly baked and served warm. Well it only took me about 15 prior visits to this place and a Yelp Elite Event held back in January 2019 to realize that it's actually Urbane Cafe and not "Urban" cafe. I would previously ask my wife, You want "Urban" for dinner? She would be like sure, sounds good. Lo and behold we attended their Yelp Elite Event and were greeted with "Welcome to Urbane!" Internally, I felt embarrassed for calling this place the wrong name for almost 2 years. Well if you've never been to an Urbane Cafe, I suggest making your way over. House made sandwiches, freshly prepared salads and hot cookies straight from the oven are just a few reasons this place is a must. Whether you are a lover of meat, lover of greens, a pescatarian, vegan or just someone who loves to eat like me, Urbane has you covered. They do have seasonal items that periodically change up their menu and keep things fresh, but you can always count on their classics served on or with a piece of their freshly baked bread. Staff is always super friendly and welcoming and will assure your 1st visit or if you are a repeat like me, that you are well taken care of. Seating available both inside and out and high chairs are available for your little ones. Orders taken at the counter and then you pick up when your buzzer goes off. Both indoor and casual outdoor seating -- great, cause I'm all about choices. It's a small mini-mall, next to the famed Doghaus chain and Kabab Plus. Counter ordering and a buzzer calls you up when your order is ready. Choices include inventive salads and sandwiches, freshly baked cookies, and a soup of the day. At other locations, I've tried the Caprese Salad [$7.50, 4.0 stars] and no longer on the current menu. I've also tried 2 great sandwiches on marvelous freshly-baked focaccia: Santa Maria BBQ roasted chicken (bacon, cheddar cheese, housemade apple coleslaw, ranch dressing [$9.25, 4.0 stars], and the So Cal Chicken Sandwich (avocado, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, aioli, tomatillo salsa [$9.25, 4.5 stars]. I love grabbing a sandwich from Urbane for a "healthy-ish" lunch or dinner every now and then - and since they opened up this Thousand Oaks location, I am able to get meals from them more often. All of the ingredients always taste super fresh, and the bread is delicious. While their sandwiches aren't the lowest calorie options available (why I say "healthy-ish," I do feel confident in WHAT is in them and what I'm eating. I came here for a great post-workout dinner last night, ordering my favorite sandwich (of the few I've tried so far): Rustic Rosemary Chicken. The side salad with a nice balsamic and a few sweet mandarin oranges always hits the spot as well. As a Diet Coke fiend, I must say their ratio in the fountain drinks was on point. I had a delicious salad here. Management is very nice and the food seems fresh. I love that they have tons of lemonades to choose from. They also have a good menu selection however, they don't have great menu selections if you are like me and have food allergies. I would love to see them develop gluten free bread options And more non-meat alternatives, such as tofu. I also felt the portions were not large enough for the price paid. Beyond that, the food was good and fresh and arrived in a timely manner. The location is also quaint and fairly small. There is outdoor seating and they do a lot of to go orders also. I have both dined in and got to go orders. The parking is behind the location so you will have to pass it and park behind the building. Put it in your GPS and you'll get there. My sandwich (which came on homemade bread) was served with a nice side salad. The location was great - they had a large patio outside to sit at as well as several tables inside. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I liked this location because you could see the food being made. I enjoyed the bread making bar where you got to see it being made! I visited this location for the first time and I was very impressed. The location is a little hard to get to, but once you are there it is all worth it! The gentleman working the register the register was so kind and in a good mood. He took my name down and remembered it once my roof was actually ready (which is not very common in places like that)! I could tell this would be a great place for small families to have a healthy and affordable meal. Not the place you want to take a date, but for sure a good friend. I do however wish they had a specific item that was their house special that I could have tried, something that stood out above the rest on the menu. The one problem here is not with the restaurant itself but the parking. There is a tiny little lot for a couple different businesses, so parking can be scarce.
