We've been enjoying the upscale Mediterranean food here for years. Thankfully they seem to have weathered covid okay, especially with the expanded sidewalk and parking log seating. You can bring Fido. Now they have a water dish for dogs too. In addition to the solid menu, do pay attention to the specials. They have a couple of salads with classic Mediterranean flavors--turnips, beets, cherry tomatoes, surrounding a small pile of butter lettuce. It wasn't a lot of food, but a nice combo and photo worthy plate. For mains, try the branzino filet, which is like a bone in trout, on a bed of arugula. Nice lemon charred flavor. Good stuff. To satisfy the vegetarian in your heart, I recommend the veggie moussaka. This might have been on the specials menu too. Layers of eggplant, zucchini, rice, and marinara. It was like a veggie lasagna bomb, with great texture. With a satisfying dish like this, who needs meat? And do take note of the Turkish coffee. We wanted to explore Mediterranean restaurants in the area, and found Urfa on Yelp. Looking at their DoorDash menu, we were surprised that they don't list pita as something you can order. Furthermore, it's hard to tell from the same menu whether things come with pita or not. For two people, we got spanakopita, dolma, falafel, hummus, and beef shish kebab. The order did come with two pieces of pita-shaped bread (but not pita). We loved everything, especially the spanakopita. I've had spanakopita once before, and this one was better in every way - the puff pastry was more crisp, and the filling was more flavorful. Both the falafel and the hummus were good, but didn't stand out. Their dolma was okay, but more sour than I'd prefer, not the best one I've had. The beef shish kebab came in huge portion, including two kinds of rice, salad with pickles, and an entire grilled tomato. Everything in the box was delicious. My favorite things were the pickles, the grilled whole tomato, and the orange rice. From the menu and the order we received, we could tell that this is a fancy restaurant. Wonderful Food Wonderful Service Will return~ I was very thankful to be able to sit in the unoccupied back patio due to still healing my eyes, and not feeling well. While the outside, and main dining area were bustling with activity, and bright (to my sensitive eyes) the back patio was quiet, and not as bright so much more comfortable. I ordered the mixed grill, and everything was cooked perfectly. The salad dressing has yogurt in it, so I opted for the olive oil and balsamic. The salad was fresh, crisp, and bright. We had a reservation so no issue getting seated but the menu was a restricted menu so the ground chicken kebabs I had been so looking forward to getting were not available. Urfa's food tasted better than Baribar and the price is much more reasonable. First off, their daily special menu has multiple choices on each section, making me feel that they put thoughts in it and not a left over hard sell menu. Secondly, the food tasted delicious and presented beautifully! The house bread is warm and flavorful. We ordered seafood pallella from the special menu and lamb stir fry from the normal menu. They both tasted great! The dishes were decorated with pink radish slices and arugula. The mussels in the pallella were fat and juicy and soft, very satisfied with the amount of ingredients and the flavors. While we were eating a bee came over lingering and just not going away. Owner was super attentive as was the wait staff. This should be on your weekly rotation of restaurants in the Los Altos area. Urfah Bistro was my other good adventure while in California. We went as a family with a couple of friends. I've never had Turkish kind of food and I was kind of skeptical. I was nervous that I wouldn't like some of the flavors. Our friends were regulars so we trusted their opinions of some of the dishes ordered. For appetizers we chose the grilled octopus, cold appetizer sampler, and hot appetizer sampler. The best thing that stood out for me for appetizers was the grilled octopus. I'm not normally a love octopus kind of person. I always think octopus is so chewy. But not at Urfah, I don't know what they do but that octopus is so soft. It's not chewy at all and it's well flavored. Made me want to keep eating it. For our entrees my husband got the Urfah combo that came with the lamb chop, kebab, beef shiso, rice and veggies. We got my daughter the chicken shish and I got the branzino which was a grilled sea bass with tomatoes, avocados, radishes, cucumber, lemon olive oil. I was able to taste each one and all dishes were so good. I was loving this place. Everything I put into my mouth was so good. Turkish food is the best. After lunch we had dessert. We had the kunafah dessert. I'm not sure how to explain it but I'll try. It's like shredded pastry dough laced with cheese. It was a nice ending to a great lunch. If you've never tried Turkish food, you should really give Urfah Bistro a try. You won't regret it. read more

I hosted a work dinner here on a Tuesday for around 10 coworkers and it went phenomenally! Awesome service, delicious food and wine selection. I ordered their shrimp and rice dish and it was DIVINE, 10/10 would order and enjoy again. It's a solid spot to grab dinner and they can definitely handle corporate team dinners as well! They also respond to emails so that's awesome for coordination (allergies, dietary restrictions) and asking questions about their menu that changes a bit. So our plan was to hit the Pho Cabin but on arrival we discovered it was not open for dinner during the week so on to plan B. Fortunately Urga was right across the street and we were warmly welcomed into their cozy dining room despite lacking reservations. Throughout the meal service was friendly and attentive and presentation was well above average but it was the taste and quality of the food that really set Urfa apart from the crowd. 1) Cold appetizer platter - amazing selection of fresh dips including baba ghanoush, tzatziki, hummus accompanied by olives, grape leaves and a cold vegetable stew. Delicious! 2) Hot appetizer platter - spanakopita, cheese rolls, shrimp, falafel and a lamb rib. We ordered : Hot appetizer combo 4* Branzino filet was ok 3* ( fish bone still in the filet) nothing special. Lamb shish Plate 2.5 * lamb over grilled ( burn) and meat dry & chewing it was hard to swallow. Perhaps we ordered the wrong dishes so we didn't like much about the food. I don't make it down to Los Altos often but every time I have recently, I've gone to Urfa and loved it! their outdoor dining is lovely, especially the front of the restaurant when it isn't raining - the seating that they've set up with wood barriers and lighting feels very ~ ambient ~ and the heaters are kind of intense but definitely keep you warm. The food here is definitely on the pricier end but portions are huge - I personally love the Urfa kebab and veggie moussaka, and my meat-loving friends/family like the combo grill, which is a variety of many of the restaurant's meats. Everything comes with rice, some salad, and roasted veggies so everything is definitely more than enough to feed a person (or two). The appetizer samplers feel maybe a tiny bit sparse so I might recommend committing to a full serving of just one type of appetizer (but I'm really nitpicking here). The warm bread (focaccia?) that they serve up initially is fantastic - crisp crust but a soft pillowy body to the bread. I also tried kunefe here for the first time ever in my life and it was fantastic - mozzarella in a dessert with honey really works!! The service here is also lovely, everyone is super accommodating and friendly. I celebrated my birthday here a few months ago with about 8 people and they were really communicative about getting us a big enough table outdoors on a Saturday evening, storing a cake for me, and accommodating a friend's severe allergy. Also this spot is BYOB! (There's and uncorking fee that I don't remember the exact cost of but it is what is is) I might never try another restaurant in Los Altos since I'll just be at Urfa Bistro every time :P read more

The quality, presentation, and flavor of the food at the Turkish-inspired Urfa Bistro in Los Gatos were definitely a step above! I'm a sucker for mezze, so we started with the Cold Appetizer Sampler, which came with creamy hummus, chunky tzatziki, eggplant dip (roasted eggplant with tahini), kizartma (cooked zucchini, eggplant, bell pepper, and tomatoes), and dolmas, along with olives and chunks of feta. Every component of this sampler was delicious and went nicely with the soft sliced Turkish bread that came on the side. But that's not all--we also got the Hot Appetizer Sampler, which came with two spanakopita (featuring a crusty exterior and flavorful spinach/feta filling), two feta rolls (crispy phyllo stuffed with feta and herbs), two falafels (soft and herbaceous), two grilled prawns, and lamb ribs (crispy and meaty). Both of the sampler plates were a great way to try out a bunch of different items, and we even got an extra order of the lamb ribs appetizer to share, which also came with thin-cut garlic truffle fries and a simple salad of dressed arugula. And then came our main plates! The grilled octopus came with a whole tentacle served over grilled honeydew and a salad of arugula, cherry tomatoes, and olive tapenade. The octopus was so tender and went perfectly with all the different components of the salad. Finally, from the daily specials, we ordered the branzino, a half fillet of grilled Mediterranean seabass, served alongside an impressive-looking salad of arugula, quinoa, almonds, cherry tomatoes, and dates, all topped with avocado, bell peppers, radishes, and flanked on both sides by spiral cones made of zucchini. As if the deliciousness of the meaty, tender, olive oil-dressed fish weren't enough, the plating of this dish simply blew my mind! Though I don't have a huge sweet tooth, the dessert I couldn't resist ordering (for Instagram, if for nothing else) was the poached pear. The whole pear had been poached in red wine, giving the exterior a deep red color, and it was served with a fruit coulis (berry sauce), crushed pistachios, and vanilla gelato. Urfa Bistro is a family owned restaurant that is in the same location as three other restaurants over the past 20 years (according to my friend who is a long time Los Altos resident). The restaurant was very cozy and warm. They obeyed all the covid rules and regulations. I had the artichoke soup special which was hearty for a cold California December night. Oh how weak I have become from the tough little New Englander girl. Now 50 degrees seems like winter. My dining companion had the Mediterranean salad despite not liking olives. Clearly that palate needs some training in appreciation of the briny pop of flavor. Alternatively I can always count on having extra olives for myself when dining with him. Talk about a win-win scenario! For the main course I had the Urfa kabob which is essentially kubideh. It was very moist and well flavored. My dining companion had the lamb meatball special which he said wasn't bad but liked my Urfa kabob better. For dessert we had kunefeh which looked like a spitting image of the one from Trader Joe's.
