Came here on a Friday evening but luckily was a bit early so we were able to get seating outside since it was a nice September day. Staff was super friendly and attentive and offered to help us through the menu and offer suggestions. We ended up with the Beyti Kebab, which was excellent and glad we ordered it. The meat inside was tender and had a nice smoky taste to it. The lamb shank was fall off the bone as you'd expect it to be and the sauce was amazing as well. We actually liked the combination of the betyi kebab with the lamb sauce together. Gazpacho was an excellent addition as well since it was a bit warm out and really hit the spot. The bread as well as the hummus were great, especially the bread, so much so that we ended up asking for more bread to dip the sauces in! We have this on our short list of restaurants now to eat at in Los Altos and will definitely be back to eat through their menu!

Had a great dinner with great company here. We were a pretty slow bunch to order and eat so A+ for the staff being patient with us and still providing excellent service. I 100% recommend the cold appetizer plate if you come with a group! You get to taste a little bit of a variety of their dips, and can also combine them with your dish if there is any left over. I also highly recommend the chicken kabob entree. The chicken was soooo succulent and the accompanying rice and sauce were perfect. The only dish that was personally OK was the poached pear, but only because it had a strong tartness to it that I guess is normal for the fish but I just wasnt expecting for some reason. But still it was good. I will definitely come again sometime and try some of their other entrees :)

Came for Mother's Day lunch. They've got a nice shaded outdoor patio along the sidewalk which was really pleasant and comfortable. I'd say the food is pretty good here. Definitely reflects Downtown Los Altos prices, but I'd recommend it to a friend. Great: Octopus appetizer - while this was a small portion (as normal), they grill the octopus really well such that it is very tender. The smoky grill flavor really elevates it. High marks! Branzino - super tender grilled fish served with a flavorful mango relish. The arugula salad with almonds, dates, and couscous served with this dish was a really good complement. Eggplant Dip - essentially baba ganoush with smoked eggplant. Nothing super fancy but very good smoky flavor in there. Good: Combo Grill - this one comes with beef, lamb, and chicken. I thought the beef and lamb had good flavor, but were a little on the tough and dry side. Chicken was excellent. The almond rice this comes with was surprisingly REALLY good. Spicy Seafood Paella - not spicy at all, nor a paella in my opinion. This was a really buttery sauced rice with shrimp and mussels. Very rich and buttery. Ok: Falafel - standard fare, nothing extraordinary here. I'd probably avoid this one next time and try something else. Service was polite and professional. I think Urfa does elevated Mediterranean food pretty well. It's a little pricy and portions are on the smaller side, but the dishes are for the most part well done!

Had a chance to try Urfa Bistro last week which was a fun to try with friends. This is a Mediterranean spot with lots of choices and a nice comfortable ambiance. This spot is located in downtown Los Altos and thankfully there was plenty of street parking when we went. For food we tried: *Hummus - delicious *Falafels - yummy and crispy *Chicken kabob - juicy and liked that there were two different rice things to eat it with as well as veggies *Seafood pasta - this was a special and was made with squid ink pasta. There was plenty of seafood but felt the sauce was a little lacking in flavor. Nice portion of seafood though A little on the pricier end given the portions were pretty small, but the food was good and fresh.

Came in on a Sunday at around 1pm with a party of 2, and were seated immediately. The food here is fantastic! Hot, flavorful, and fresh. The highlight for me was actually the artichoke soup, which goes great with the complementary bread. Service was also another highlight. Our server was attentive and welcoming, and checked in with us twice during the entree. Great experience, 10/10 would recommend for groups, family and friends to catch up and hang out over a delicious meal.

Beautiful outdoor ambiance near downtown Los Altos. Fresh, lamb wrap with ample vegetables was perfect for lunch. Ordered salad on the side and mint tea to drink. The salad was tasty and well-dressed. The mint tea was very pure in that it was actual mint leaves in the teapot steeping in the hot water, however if you're expecting a full-on mint flavor this is not that. Attentive, respectful service and for the area, decent prices. Worth it for the patio dining this time of year!

This 5 star review is for just one dish I had today that was just perfect - Kunafeh. The kataifi was crispy and the cheese inside was soft and melty. The dish itself was the perfect amount of sweet without being overwhelmingly sugary. Garnished with pistachio powder and pistachios, this is the best THE BEST Kunafeh I've had in Bay Area

I've visited this place twice with friends and had a good experience both times. I tried the beyti, which was quite decent--one of the better ones you'll find in the Bay Area. That said, the sauce was a bit heavy for my taste. The service was solid, and the restaurant offers plenty of seating, making it a comfortable spot to dine. Overall, a good option for Turkish food in the area!

I came on a Thursday night with a reservation for 5:45 PM, but there was a lot of open seating. The environment was great for quiet conversations and casual meeting. We ordered the Cold Appetizer Sampler, Beyti Kebab, Squid Ink Linguini Pescatore, and the Halloumi Beet Salad. We had three people total, and we had just a little left over, so the portions were perfect. Cold Appetizer Sampler: 8/10. I recommend if you want to try all the different dips they have! In ranking of favorite to least favorite, my order would be kizartma, tzatziki, hummus, then the eggplant dip. I wasn't a big fan of the intensity of the dolma, but it pairs well with the eggplant dip! Beyti Kebab: 7/10. The lavash bread surrounding the meat added a nice touch to the overall dish! The ground lamb and beef inside of the bread was a little tough, so it helped that there was a lot of marinara and yogurt sauce given with the dish. Tastes like comfort! Squid Ink Linguini Pescatore: 8/10. I loved the variety of the seafood inside of this dish. The sauce was creamy and lemon-y, and was the perfect compliment to the seafood inside of the pasta. Halloumi Beet Salad: 9/10. I LOVED the dressing of the salad because of how light it is, and I loved the beets- they were so sweet and tender. I wasn't a big fan of the Halloumi, but it could also be because I'm not a fan of cheese in general. Would order again! The service was incredibly kind and checked up on us often. It was a little pricey, but I would absolutely come again for the service, the beets, and the kizartma!

Urfa exceed my expectations! This place wasn't really on my mental map, but we were in the area and hungry so we popped in for an impromptu dinner. We shared a mixed mezze platter and Iskander kabob plate. I have high standards for Mediterranean food and everything we ordered was super delicious - flavorful, fresh, and complex. Service was attentive and helpful. There are plenty of mid Mediterranean spots in the area, but this is one of the solidly impressive ones. Will definitely return!

Lovely Mediterranean Bistro in quaint Los Altos downtown. Had a quick lunch outing with family. We skipped starters but got our fill of some nice bread with spiced olive oil. The Lamb Stew was delicious, the Chicken wrap was filling. Paella was nice, but not Spanish. Service was swift. Will be going back to try some more of the offerings.

I was skeptical that the reviews for this restaurant were authentic -- someone else opined that the reviews sounded like friends of the owner reviews. Well, today we were in the mood for something different than our usual Japanese, Mexican, Italian choices downtown so we opted for Urfa instead of Opa. We were pleasantly surprised. I ordered the grilled octopus salad and a English pea, zucchini, spinach soup; hubby order the chicken shish. All were yummy, but the proteins - chicken and octopus - were outstanding. I'm excited to come back and try the lamb. It was getting very packed on this Wednesday night at 06:30pm -- many couples, 4-somes, and groups of 8. Service was good as well. Happy to see a successful restaurant in this location. read more

Loved this spot. Walked in w/o a reservation and sat right away on a Tuesday night at about 6pm with a friend. OI had the lamb shank and a glass of Pinot. Both were delicious! The warm bread and garlic/olive oil dip were amazing! Service was on point and friendly. Good atmosphere - nice for a friends dinner or romantic date. I'd definitely return. read more

Very solid meal. Had the stuffed eggplant and it was good. Solid flavors. But what stood out for me was the rice. Incredibly light with a very subtle flavor. Just the perfect complement to the strong flavor of the marinara sauce on the eggplant. Fast and courteous service. Can't wait to try other items on the menu. read more

Disappointed as a returning costumer. The lamb chop was undercooked. When we brought it to their attention, they took the half lamb chop back to the kitchen and brought back the same lamb chop 10 min later. It was still red and uncooked. Do not recommend going there on Friday nights. read more

I've been here a couple times now. I thought the food overall was very good. The staff were attentive and friendly. The main reason for the three star review is that the hummus had gone bad on my most recent visit. It had this sharply sour taste - a clear indication that it wasn't fresh. I did go fairly late at night - around 8 pm - so it could have been that the hummus was fresher earlier in the day. Having said that, I'll still go back to this place. If not for the bad hummus, I'd have given this place four stars. read more

Have visited Urfa several times and the food has been consistently excellent. Wife had the grilled octopus and it was nicely cooked with great flavors. Not quite up to what we had at the pincho bars in San Sebastian but close. The braised lamb shank was very good and ample. We had a spinach side dish that was cooked to perfection. The Quince dessert was vanilla bean ice cream was quite memorable. We'll be back. read more

Absolutely fantastic. Had the baba ganoush (eggplant dip) and veggie moussaka. Both were the best I've had, and I've tried both dishes from a lot of places. The baba ganoush was the perfect blend of smokey and slightly citrusy. They definitely deserve the Michelin recommendation they rightly proudly display in their window. Prices reasonable. Friendly staff. They've definitely found a repeat customer. read more

This is our second visit to this restaurant. We ordered the hot appetizer, a green salad, lamb shank, game hen, chocolate bread pudding and baked quince. The lamb shank had a rich (red wine?) sauce cooked with some chopped vegetable. The game hen had light crispy skin on the outside drizzled with porcini sauce. Both entrees were absolutely delicious. The quince was baked in a light pink sauce, had some berries on the side and topped with vanilla gelato. It was baked to a perfect medium softness, allowing the texture of the fruit to shine through. Chocolate bread pudding was not too rich or buttery, accompanied by some cut berries on the side and topped with walnuts and vanilla gelato. The walnuts and blueberries added a delightful crunch to the otherwise smooth texture of the dessert. Both the desserts were exquisitely prepared. Their on-the-house homemade warm bread with olive dip is also extraordinary. All dishes were beautifully presented. The owner and servers at the restaurant are very personable, polite and hospitable. This restaurant has top notch chef(s) who create excellent food in taste and artistry. read more

Arrived on time for our reservation. After being ignored for a while, we were told that the only table available for us in the 1/3rd full restaurant was either one right by the front door (where we'd have had the butts of anyone who came in to be ignored for their reservation literally inches from us AND would have been 3' from the front door on a cold night) or an outdoor table-- 55 degrees and very windy out. Again, the place was not close to full, and I saw their reservation list. It wasn't going to get full. We left. There are two other similar style places to eat within blocks of Urfa Bistro. Not great food by any stretch. I had the lamb shish, the meat was so tough I had to pull it out of my mouth. The pieces in the middle were raw inside. Not very good at all. Asked for the Turkish tea and got English Breakfast, not exactly Turkish. Ha. So many good places not going to bother with this one again. read more

There was no taste in their food. Falafel tasted like paper. Hummus tasted pasty. Sucks cause I brought my mom to taste Mediterranean food for the first time and she didn't like it. I was fooled by the number of stars on yelp. read more

Wonderful attentive service from beginning to end of meal. Lots of great menu options from seafood, beef, chicken, lamb and vegetarian. We had lamb shank, combo plate, and vegetarian daughter had spanakopita, and falafel off this appetizer menu (but there were vegetarian offerings on entree menu). All were delicious. Dessert options were delicious too. We shared raspberry sorbet and a rice pudding with cinnamon. Do make a reservation for a Friday night, it is small and was full. read more

Super friendly and attentive staff in a cute location but the food is just bland. The chef needs to go back to spices and flavors that are the beauty of Turkish cuisine. This restaurant has imaginative dishes such as the grilled octopus that my wife had, served on a thick slice of green melon, of the lamb shish wrapped in lavash that I ordered. Both came quickly and looked great but the taste just wasn't there. For true Turkish flavors my favorite is Galata in Menlo Park. read more

Zubi and his crew catered for our wedding this September at UCSC Arboretum. The food was delicious! Everyone was very happy with it. They grilled seabass and kebobs in the garden, and brought freshly made hummus with other appetizers and sides. Zubi was very responsive and easy to work with. If you're planning an event, either a wedding or any sort of party, I'd highly recommend Ufra Bistro! read more

The location (easy to park), the staff, and the food were excellent. We messed up on our reservation, but they seated us quickly anyway. The food came out fast and was delicious. I'm recently a vegetarian, and though there were lots of meat options, there were also plenty of veg options. The veggie moussaka was fabulous! read more

Found this restaurant on Yelp, made reservations, and beat the crowd going in at 5:15 pm. The meal far exceeded our expectations. We are vegetarians, and enjoyed a delicious, authentic Mediterranean meal. Three of us had 4-5 appetizers, one of us had the vegetarian moussaka, and we shared a most delectable baklava and incredible turkish delights for dessert. I've been to Turkey a couple of times, not sure if the food there was better than this experience. We loved our waiter too. Thank you! read more

3.5 Turkish restaurant which is pretty good overall. iskender ok with thicker chunks, and not like the kind you find in Kreuzberg. kofte tasty, lamb comes through, overall good ingredients but not flavor profiles to wow. read more

Customer service review: I noted in my Open Table reservation that I need a quiet table. The owner of the restaurant called me to let me know there would be two large parties, that the restaurant is small, and it might not be a good venue for me. How thoughtful and responsive. I changed my reservation to a quieter spot but can't wait to dine at Urfa Bistro. read more

Very great food!! Zubi was a fantastic host and Alex was a great waiter. I would recommend this place to anyone who is in the mood for great Mediterranean food. The food is so fresh and very well prepared. The beef kabob is the dish I liked the best but we were able to sample most of the menu and there was not one thing I tried that I didn't like. They just wrap the half sandwich in paper and it is quite difficult to eat due to how packed the sandwich is. In the future, definitely tell them that you're eating there so they give you a plate. Seating is picnic table style in their bright and airy building. Their meat plates look really good and I want to try them next time.

We all shared a couple of appetizers: Saganaki, Barbayani Thalasa Tiganites, Octopodi, Horiatiki Salad and Greek Fries. Drinks ordered were a mocktail and Bee's Knee. For dessert, we got the Lemoni Crème Brûlée. Everything was delicious, but the Lemoni Crème Brûlée, OMG!!! The best! It was tangy and sweet, the perfect combo. From those recommendations we ended up ordering, the Barbayani Pikilia, Octapodi, Moussaka, Lavraki, Paidakia, the Galaktoboureko, and the Whisper cocktail. We got the Barbayani Pikilia as a tasting platter, which had their House-Made Pita Bread along with a Pomegranate Dip, Tiroakafteri (a dip of Feta, Garlic, and Red Bellpepper), Tzatziki (a dip of Greek Yogurt, Cucumber, and Dill), Melitzanosalata (a dip of Roasted Eggplant and Herbs). All of it wasn't bad, but our favorite was the Melitzanosalata and Tzatziki for their fresher taste. The other dips, especially the Tirokafteri was our least favorite since it was so heavy with all the Feta in it. The Octopodi had one Charbroiled Octopus Tentacle with Red Wine Vinaigrette, Oregano, and the House Pesto Sauce. The Octopus was cooked perfectly tender, and had a fresh taste with the sauces. The Moussaka was a casserole with Roasted Potatoes, Grilled Eggplant, Lamb Ragout, and Bechamel Sauce. This whole dish blended together nicely, especially with the Bechamel Sauce. The Lavraki was a whole Mediterranean Seabass, which was cooked perfectly and was nice and flakey. The Potatoes and Braised Greens were also cooked nicely and had great flavor. The Paidakia was Lamb Chops with Potatoes and Greens, which also had good flavor and was cooked perfectly. The Galaktoboureko was a nice finish for dessert, being mild in sweetness, and having nice textures combining the Semolina Custard with Phyllo Dough. The Whisper cocktail had Thyme Gin, Elderflower, Ginger, and Chamomile, which really blended well together. Thankfully it wasn't too sweet and had the right amount of alcohol. However, the later service we received or should I say, didn't receive put a damper on our evening. After our original waiter left, another waiter took over who completely ignored us and never came to check on us. Also, when we had our meals boxed up, the waiter that boxed them threw out some of the dishes, which we later realized when we got home. Overall, everything was cooked perfectly and well made, however some of the customer service needs some work.

It's a pretty good sized menu. - Hamachi Kama: a good sized piece, cooked just right, with seasoned ponzu on the side - Citrusy salmon roll: a crab and cucumber roll topped with salmon. The crab had a bit too much mayo for me, but the kids didn't mind - Wagyu Sando: we got it medium rare. There aren't a lot of restaurants in downtown Los Altos that I go to that regularly, but Haru will definitely be a new regular spot for us. Bonus that it's so close and that it's fine to bring young kids there!

Nice spacious patio seating. The food here is not authentic. There's an excessive amount of butter (the kind that clogs your arteries and that is NOT used in true Mediterranean cooking) on all their meats items. The rice pilaf thing was so moist and wet because I suspect they used a whole stick of butter in it to make it this way. This is not how rice pilaf should be cooked or taste. Their kabobs also soaking in butter. I also noticed that the price is very high for what you are getting. Case in point, the kabobs is just 1 kabob and two strips of grilled vegetables and that rice pilaf cup would run you between $26 and $38. You are paying for plate space. The waiters and waitresses here also seem to have problems speaking normal business English and were not able to tell me much about the menu items. When it comes to the drinks in the back, they went silent when I asked them about the smell or taste of a certain wine. So, in summary, the food is overpriced and not authentic. The staff do not know much about their own restaurant's food nor do they seem to be able to communicate. The staff also left me alone for a long time before taking my order, left me sitting out in the patio alone for a long time before my food came and, again, made me wait for a very long time for my bill. And, after I left my Visa card inside the check presenter, I had to also wait a very very very long time for them to run it. The worst part about this bistro is most definitely the terrible customer service. Overpriced, overoiled fake Mediterranean "cuisines" and truly bad service. That's my take home impression of this place. I heard the restaurant across the street is 100% better with food, service and ambiance. Not quite Mediterranean but if you something fresh and interesting, ASA is a better bet to spend your hard-earned money on. There's also some "hole in the wall" restaurants in Mountain View that offers real, authentic Greek or Mediterranean food at half the price and with good service, too. Choose wisely. read more

I walked in to Urfa Bistro today after work, having never dined there. The maître d' smiled and asked how many would be in my party. I said one. Ray's face dropped. "I'm afraid we don't have any..." Ray faltered at this point as he looked around at a nigh empty room. There was one family sitting at one table and everything else was empty. Ray continued, "We're completely booked with reservations." Reread the exchange above. Did Ray start the conversation with, "Do you have a reservation?" No. He asked how many, and his demeanor changed when he found I represented a lowly party of one. While awfully suspicious I was being fed a line, I considered the possibility that maybe they were all booked up, and Ray could tell I wasn't one of the reservations because all of them were more than one. That's why when I returned to my car around an hour later, having dined at a genuinely friendly establishment within walking distance, I ducked my head into Urfa Bistro. Were they filled wall to wall? No. There were a few more tables occupied, but they were still less than half capacity. You'd think service industries could learn from watching the fallout of United's fiasco that we're fed up with being treated like dirt. Please don't give this place your business. read more

One who specializes in the traditional turkish dishes on the menu and the other who takes care of most of the daily specials with a strong emphasis on seafood. I went there last night. We waited over an hour for food but nothing came. We asked when the food would come and the waiter said 30 more more minutes. It never came so we left. The manager said never to come back again. He didn't even say sorry for the bad service. The table in front of us complained and the table behind us complained too. A great place for lunch. Cost neighbourhood and sitting outdoor with shade was great. It is a Turkish restaurant serving varieties of wrap, kebabs, hummus and falafel. Uniquely I ordered the seafood paella as it was their day special. The uniqueness of this paella comes with some level of spiciness, perfectly cooked and artfully presented.
