I really wish that this post office grew in size to accommodate the needs of the community. Mira Mesa has grown significantly since the 1980's but this small post office has stayed the same in size. Therefore when you go in most of the time you will always have to stand in line for at leave 10-20 minutes just to mail small packages or buy stamps. Parking can be a problem during the late part of the day. I'd stay away unless you absolutely positively have to go in. Use the automated machine whenever needed to mail or just mail from home. Unless you like standing and waiting then feel free to pay this small post office a visit. read more

It's a post office. Bottom line... expect long lines, slow service, and poor customer service. If you expect this going in, you won't be disappointed. This post office seems quite old. Old tiles and counters. Even has an old smell to it. The employees do their jobs, but they don't seem to enjoy it. They don't interact with the customers and they don't seem to smile much. Lines are always long. Rightfully so if there is only 1-2 employees at the counter at any given time. I don't even want to imagine what it is like here during the holidays. What i do like is that they have all the boxes and forms you need alongside the walls and windows. I use flat rate boxes a lot and many times at other post offices, i have to get in line to get some. Here, it is available out in the open so i can just walk in and get what i need without having to get in line. Parking can be horrible. And it's one way traffic too so if you drive in one way and don't find parking by the end of the lot, tough luck! With that said, it's just one more place you have to tolerate to get that errand checked off your list. read more

I was about to send fragile gifts poorly wrapped across country in the wrong sized boxes, had she not gone out of her way to help me. I was so overwhelmed with all of the Christmas gifts I got and all the options, that I was literally paralyzed. In the time I spent I watched how poorly some customers can treat others. Horrible, horrible, HORRIBLE!! There's so many people here, the parking is insane. My sister and I wanted to ship a package for family. Since we've done this before where we use the machine to pay and ship..we thought it be a lot easier and faster. We were packing our stuff and I went to ask for packaging tape & she gave me scotch tape?! How am I going to tape my box with that?! We left an will come back when it's not as busy. OK I get it. No one likes to wait in line. But does six flags and disneyland get two stars? Not for the lines, you gotta expect that! Here this is only exacerbated by the fact that at post offices, most non-regulars (I rarely send post myself) are confused about the myriad of things to know, what to select, boxes to check. Carumba! The last two times I have been here I forget the name but the Filipino gentleman but has always been very friendly making fun small talk, all other folk also informative and not short tempered. They know not everyone works at a post office, so they are just there to lighten the mood and help things go smoothly. My express/next day mail, "guaranteed by noon next day at location of delivery" arrived 11:49am the next day Eastern Time. Noice. I like this location. Less lines than other post office choices I can go to, outside of expected rush hours (before/after work, maybe lunch). Parking is fine but it comes out of a blindish corner. So for better chance of safely arriving in this trafficy area 1) lookup the cross street to expect 2) DRIVE SLOWER approaching the cross street 3) Stay to the right with your blinker and you should have a safe way in. First time using this location for anything, and I was massively impressed by how organized and friendly the busy holiday shipping experience turned out here. Parking lot was a zoo, people were waiting for others to leave, lots of drive offs ( folks, try and have a little patience, it's always faster to wait then find another location at rush hour). Pro tip: If you are using Priority and there is a long line, they have a dedicated window to help get you out the door faster - yes it's more expensive, but if you are in a hurry, and/or you want your stuff to arrive sooner, it's a no brainer. I use the self service kiosk quite often for shipping first class packages as I run an e-commerce shop online; and my packages constantly get nitpicked and sent back to me with a note on it saying I owe " X amount more" on the package with no reason why it was rejected. I am mailing manilla envelopes and am choosing the correct options - package, etc. Not selecting it as letter. The weight is correct. I'm not manipulating the weight like Chris did to the fish scale guy in the sopranos. I was casually talking about my issue with another customer having trouble mailing items through the self service kiosk, when a USPS employee walked by and pretty much insuinated she handles those kiosk packages and rejected it "probably because I classified my package as a letter and not a package". I can see her getting a management position pretty soon, she's got the right attitude. She would have done great in Nazi germany. Taking my business elsewhere. read more

Not a good example of a professional post office. Had an issue where they broke the mailbox lock and would not fix it. Also, they are often late in reliving packages. Staff are nice but I wish they were empowered or incentivized to provide better service/performance of their duties to ensure postage is timely, and secure. read more

Yes the lines can be long, but that can be avoided if you don't go during lunch or right after work. The staff are pretty knowledgeable and try their best to help you as fast as they can. A lot of people wait until they are at the counter to fill out their labels. You can save some time while you're in line by prepping your boxes/envelopes. I think a lot of the negative reviews and frustrations can be attributed to customers being annoyed by other customers and not necessarily the staff. read more

They are always super helpfull when it comes to letting me hold my package before I sign for it :D I always try and go there early before the rush so that I dont have to wait that long...Typically my wait time is around 5 minutes or so because they are always working about 4 or 5 staff members which is awesome!!! Meh. I avoid coming here at all cost. If I have to ship a package, I go to FedEx Office. However, when it is out of my control, I come here to pick up packages. Once, one of the employees asked if anyone was in line to pick up a package, which was me, so I was able to jump the line, pick it up, and go home. The problem I have with the Post Office is its customer service. It seems that the employees have a different array of knowledge when it comes to sending, shipping, and the overall friendliness is very unpredictable with these people. For example, when I was sending an envelope, the clerk automatically placed a plastic cover over it for my Amazon invoice with the recipients shipping information. Another time, I came in and the clerk had no idea what I was talking about. "Plastic cover? What invoice?" Sometimes, you get lucky and you'll have a smiling, customer service professional. Other times, you'll get an employee who just does the bare minimum to get you out fast. For example, when I asked for stamps, I needed a few sheets so I could send out my holiday cards. She gave me one sheet and asked, "Is this okay?" I replied, "No. I need a few more please." So she pulls out one more and asks the same question. I tell her, "I need one more." She laughs to herself like I am ridiculous. I pay for my stamps and leave. No good bye, thank you, have a nice day. For a place who has lost a lot of business due to FedEx and UPS, the Post Office should really start working on their customer service if they want to stay in the competition of shipping. Prices will not be the only thing people look at when there are faster shipping options available with more responsive employees. read more

During the weekdays, the wait is reasonable. There are some nice people who work there. However, some of the staff can be really unhelpful. Also, their hours says that they open until 3 pm on Saturdays. I got there on a Saturday at 2:20 pm and they had already closed up. Our federal tax dollars not well spent. read more

The workers are always helpful. There's a specific gentleman that always helps me, I wish I caught his name, but he always assists when I need it. If the line is getting long he usually helps people put in the line that need to ship put packages to make it move a little faster. Kind and friendly guy. I have called this post office at least 10 times a day, mornings afternoons etc. several days a week and I am yet to have someone answer the phone!!!! Seriously - is anyone still working there ? I've been coming here for years and while in the past the service was not that great over the last few months it has been fantastic. The lines can be long but the staff makes a reasonable effort to get through each person and take care of all your needs. They are doing a great job. If you want the best shipping prices and can afford to spend 10min in line then this is a great spot to go too! read more

Lines are long sometimes but the people there are helpful. I once mailed something and it didn't arrive to my customer on time. Customer called back and said they didn't receive it! I threw away the tracking receipt because I never had issues. Went back and asked them to track it manually. Took a good 15 min to track but they helped me find out what happened. Ok my recent experience has been amazing because of VIR. He was the nicest and most helpful employee. I was really confused on the difference in price for a package, I had printed a label for already. Vir was able to calculate the difference and help me out. The reason I'm giving 4 stars is because if it wasn't for Vir I would leave 0 stars. The last two times the employees were so RUDE and didn't help me with my package they told me to go to the machine after I had made line already. This is by far the worst USPS postal office I have ever had an experience with. I have 3 missing packages that were "delivered" "left in/at mailbox" which is completely bullshit. I live on military compound and there's NO WAY the package will fit in my mailbox. As far as leaving them on my front porch (as the postal master mentioned) do you really thinking other Marines will take my packages?! Let's be real!!! I had a package from Fedex the same day being delivered to me and first I thought it was my address but no, I received my package from Fedex. So WHY is it that I'm missing ALL my packages from USPS? I will reporting the postal master and this USPS to consumer affairs as well as his headquarters. Someone is taking my packages and him as the postal master can't even tell which mailman delivered my packages that day when in fact, HE SHOULD KNOW. There's definitely a glitch within this post office and I won't let this go regardless of my reimbursements or not. No one should have to experience this. So I ended up contacting consumer affairs and the rep I spoke with was able to locate my packages. Turns out, my regular mail lady was on vacation and someone else was filling in for her. The man who was filling in for her scanned my packages as delivered though it wasn't. He should of never scanned it as delivered if he never delivered it. Instead, he could of left a notice instead of I having to pursue it to this level. Packages were there. 2 out of 4. Will be back tomorrow to retrieve my other 2 packages. Hoping they leave a notice or something before scanning my packages as delivered the next time. Had a much better experience than I expected from the post office itself. I wish I can give a ZERO Star rating. This business is by far the worst establishment to do business at. They know people do not have other option for sending and receiving mail or send or receive packages, so they they full advantage of it. I called the USPS 800# and asked if it was possible to pick up a package that was being delivered that day and I was told I can but to make sure I needed to get there right when they open the doors. I got there at 8:05am. the woman worker looked at me funny when I told her what I was there for and then she asked for an ID and walked to the back office. A another man came out and handed out my ID and told me they don't do pick up and was wondering who told me I can pick up my package. I told him I called the 800#. He said they were wrong and to go home and wait for my package. I told them I would be saving them time and money if I picked it up. The man right off the bat was negative and was ready to argue his point. I just walked away. 10 minutes later, I happen to run into a mailman at the gas station down the street and I asked him if it was possible to pick up a 2-day Priority Mail Package that was being delivered today from the Post Office. This was his answer and I quote, "it is up to your mail man if he wants to look for the package or not, and it is also up to the person you get at the counter and or the supervisor. My guess is you got the supervisor. Just to let you know I don't work at that Mira Mesa Office." I wish there was another option besides the USPS. read more

I called this office today to ask about a postmark question. The guy that I spoke to was completely rude and basically told me there is nothing they can do, so I now owe a $65 late fee on something that was sent in in time, but postmarked late on their part. The guy actually hung up on me! WORST customer service I have had a long time! If I knew the guys name I would calling the manager about him! Have been in twice during the week around noon, and never waited longer than about 5mins. Never had any issues with the staff, but I usually ship small padded envelopes that are easy. Typical USPS location where the other customers can hold up the line because shipping packages proves to be difficult for them (somehow) and they're paying in coins but nothing unusual for a USPS. read more

This is a post office. It's not great, it's not horrible. If you do not want to wait then don't go during a busy time such as lunch or right after a normal work day. There is an overflow parking lot, so parking is never an issue. There are plenty of mail drop boxes so there is always an opportunity to just drop something off quickly. There is also a self serve machine if you know exactly what you need. The challenge does come if you need to visit the counter. People are usually unprepared and the postal workers have to spend time helping people complete their work. But, the line still moves expeditiously. They do have a drop off bin set up for the holidays if your postage is already completed. read more

The mail delivery is awful. No matter how many times I remind the delivery guy I get somebody else's mail who apparently used to live in my unit years ago. Also, they like to squeeze large mail items that say "DO NOT BEND" into my little mail cubby instead of leaving it in the slot reserved for oversized mail. I'd say one of the oddest things that's happened to me at this branch was that I was approached by a complete stranger who'd just received a letter, read it, and asked me for legal advice. This has happened to me twice! And I'm almost positive that on one of the occasions, I was wearing a Green Lantern t-shirt. That's not a guy you want to take advice from. Unless it's how to defeat Sinestro. Am I right, nerds? Are there long lines? During certain parts of the day, sure. But it's a post office. I've stood in long lines at this branch, in Solana Beach, Golden Hill, College Area, etc. so it's not an anomaly that warrants any downgrade from me.
