B2 - Banh Mi Bo Nuong (Grilled Beef Banh Mi)
    John A.

It's exciting to find a phenomenal banh mi place south of Boston. If you are still discovering the world of banh mi, like I am, I am finding that the family forward places are offering food with more depth of flavor. This place was no exception. My bánh mì bò nướng had the right amount of heat, crusty/pillowy bread and nice crunch on the vegetables. I am told that the bread is made on premises so freshness should be (and was that day) nearly guaranteed. As seems to be an unspoken standard, the sandwich was made with lightning speed. Unfortunately for me, I was hungry, so I didn't savor as much as I wanted to (not quite a Son Goku but more like a Yogi with a freshly baked pie). Ruminate on that one as you head to Banh Mi Boston for some great delights....

Bread so hard you can't even bite into it.

Bread is so hard to bite into!!! I just picked up a cold cut and couldn't even bite into the whole sandwich. The inside was good but what a waste for $8. If you come here make sure the bread is fresh.

With so many banh mi spots popping up everywhere due to trends, banh mi Boston takes the "favorite" spot on my list. For some odd reason, my stomach cannot handle most banh mi's sold in and around Boston. I love a good banh mi but after one or two bites, I get sick to my stomach - almost like clock work, every, single, time. Not sure if it's the msg or additives or what but I was about to give up on enjoying banh mi's unless I made it at home. Enter Banh Mi Boston - a banh mi shop that looks standard but tastes homemade and is definitely made with love. Banh mi Boston banh mi tastes homemade and definitely does not give me a stomachache or induces an msg coma. With vegetarian, pescatarian, and omnivore options - you can certainly find a banh mi catered to you here. Everyone gets the standard cold cut sandwich and that is a deliciously safe choice. But if you're feeling adventurous, the beef sandwich and fish cake sandwich is even more of a flavor bomb! They also sell traditional viet dishes that are worth a try - my favorite is the banh beo (mochi like rice paddies with mungbean, shrimp dust, and scallions with fish sauce dipping sauce) and the bot chien (fried rice cake with egg omlette and pickled veggies). The egg rolls are delicious and aromatic as well. They also sell traditional snacks and to go meals. My favorite of those dishes is the sticky rice with steamed pork and sausage slices tossed in a sweet soy sauce. Just old school comfort food. The shop is always spotless and service is always so friendly. The shop owner is so sweet and polite. She's in the works of opening a second location in downtown boston in the food court and plans to extend her menu to noodle soups too! Can't wait!

First time getting banh mi in Boston and, coming from San Jose, the bar is high for viet food. I was really excited to see bot chien on the menu, since it's not a super well known dish! Ordered through Yelp's online ordering and it was ready for pickup within 5 minutes. Parking is street parking only but took less than 2 minutes to find a spot on a Saturday afternoon. All the food was pretty good! i do wish the sauce for the bot chien were a bit stronger, and that they put Maggie sauce on the banh mi like most places on the west coast do, but it definitely satisfied my cravings!

Freshly made banh mi loaded with fresh ingredients. Super good! We tried the cold cuts, bbq pork and bbq beef. They were even good the next day lightly toasted in the oven.

Needed a new local bahn mi shop for a quick and cheap lunch and Banh Mi Boston was exactly what I was looking for. I got the grilled pork sandwich which had nice crunchy cuts of fatty pork. The bread was fresh and the veggie toppings were tangy with the pickled veggies and spicy with the jalapeños. At $5.50 per sandwich, you won't find a better value. I also tried a few prepared items in the fridge. The pork rice wrap rolls were fresh and tasty. The shredded pork and rice made a nice reheated lunch the next day for $3. Sandwiches are made in front of you ala Subway. No need to order ahead as they are fast and efficient. Highly recommend visiting if you are in Quincy.

Great Banh mi and friendly service. We came on a late Sunday afternoon so a lot of the other snacks/desserts were gone. We got Banh mi thit nguoi and Banh mi heo nuong (they ran out of Bo nuong). I personally love toasting up my Banh mi to eat later in the day, or the next day. It has great flavors and a good amount of meat in both. There are 2-3 small tables and bar seating (3 chairs). They don't have any take out menus at this time.

Saw this spot a couple days ago after heading home from the gym and knew we had to try it. First impression when walking in, cleanness and coziness. It's a small Vietnamese sub shop with other varieties to pick from. Took a glimpse through their menu and saw bun Bo hue. I will definitely try it next time! I settled for the traditional banh mi which is banh mi thit nguoi. Their baguette is really fresh and crispy! Portion and size was perfect. It's a must try! Will come back and try the rest of their menu! Another addition to this review , the staff is super nice! I'm assuming they're the owners of the shop. Great hospitality!

Super nice people working there and yummy dishes! Lots of hot soup dishes and sandwiches to choose from. Prices weren't too bad. Give this place a try!

This is the most disappointing place I've ever been to. The taste and texture of bang mi were awful! It was my first and last time visiting. I will never return. I ordered the bbq pork bank mi, but there was barely any meat, and it was very salty and dried. Almost like chewy hard jerky meat. The bread was also not fresh. It's not worth the $7 dollar value

We tried Rubato Cafe and then found ourselves at Bayao, just a stone's throw away, and WOW, what a different vibe. Walk into Bayao and you're hit with bright colors, neon signs, and a decor that feels like a love letter to Hong Kong, whether you grew up there or not. The tables even look like mahjong sets, and they've got posters from classic Hong Kong films. By the time I saw In the Mood for Love (where my fellow Wong Kar-wai fans at?) in the bathroom area, I knew these folks understood ambiance. But let's talk food. I had the chicken tomato macaroni soup, a comforting, flavorful bowl of nostalgia. The chicken was freshly fried and super tasty, exactly why Hong Kong cha chaan teng comfort food is a thing. My friend got the chicken pineapple bun, and while the bun wasn't a perfect replica of the classic (or what we'd prefer, a genuine bo lo bao), I'm now thinking maybe a sturdier bun makes sense to hold it all together. (Maybe I shouldn't have been so upset at Rubato in my last review. HMM.) It tasted good, and I appreciated the cute "Time to Bread" toothpick flag. The Ovaltine French toast was a showstopper. It looks unassuming, then you cut in and BOOM! Chocolate lava oozes out. It's sweet, but hey, dessert is dessert. Prices were reasonable, around $11 for the pineapple bun, $13 for my hearty soup. In the end, Bayao didn't just feed us; it took us on a trip. I'd happily return for both the flavors and those Hong Kong feels.

There used to be a Bank of America ATM right across the street but it seems like it is no longer there unfortunately. Their biang biang noodles are fire & you really can't go wrong with getting the dry version or with soup. Honestly, this has been my favorite spot to get noodles lately. Last week, I literally went here almosevery day for dinner (I wish I was kidding). My favorite dishes to order from here include: - Cumin Lamb Biang Biang Noodles - Cumin Lamb Biang Biang Noodle Soup - Fish Filet with Chili Pepper - Chongching Chicken with Chili Pepper Visually, the dishes don't look like generous portions but actually they're quite filling! The cumin lamb Biang Biang noodles (w/o soup) is generally my go-to because it's SO FLAVORFUL. The lamb is cooked well & doesn't taste gamey at all. It's a tad spicy but won't kill you hahaha. They do have another version of this dish that comes with soup & it's a great option if you're feeling a soup. This also has amazing flavor but of course, not as flavorful as the dry version since it comes with soup. I highly recommend getting the fish filet with chili peppers if you love a fried fish! They make it incredibly crispy without making the fish taste dry. This is perfect with a bowl of rice. Now, the chongching chicken wings have to be the spiciest dish out of my favorites. This is a great snack! I usually get this to share if I'm eating here with a group or if I'm getting takeout, I'll get this as an entree. The pieces are crispy, spicy, and juicy. What more can you ask for? SO GOOD. For dine in, it is Cash Only. If you do takeout and don't have cash/want to go grab cash, what I like to do is order through UberEats. This way, it charges credit card & you can just go in to pick it up or choose for delivery.

We walked into a simple, modest space with only a handful of tables, the kind of casual neighborhood eatery where the focus is clearly on the food rather than the surroundings. The dining room was tight and functional, with a no-frills setup that kept the attention on the noodles coming out of the kitchen. The energy was practical and unpretentious, and the steady flow of customers reflected its reputation as a destination for anyone craving authentic Chinese noodle dishes. The hand-pulled noodles are the highlight of the menu. We ordered a few different styles and found the Biang Biang noodles standing out with their wide, chewy texture that held up well to the bold sauces. The Lanzhou beef noodle soup offered a lighter broth paired with freshly stretched noodles that had a clean, satisfying bite. The spicy lamb hand-pulled noodles were another popular choice, combining tender meat with a flavorful sauce that had a satisfying amount of heat. Beyond the noodles, the cumin lamb burger, steamed dumplings, and cold skin noodles provided plenty of variety if we wanted to explore more of the menu. Each dish arrived hot and well assembled, and the portions were generous for the price. The restaurant operates with a very straightforward, self-service style. Seating is limited, and the dining room fills up quickly during busy hours, so waiting for a table is common. The service is fairly minimal, with the emphasis placed on getting the food out rather than providing a full-service dining experience. Water and utensils are self-serve, and the overall experience feels more like grabbing an authentic meal than dining somewhere with polished hospitality. It is also worth knowing that Chili Square is cash only, so planning ahead will save you from any surprises when it is time to pay. The staff moved through the room efficiently, and the noodles came out hot and freshly pulled. Overall, Chili Square is a great choice if you are looking for authentic hand-pulled noodles and bold Northwestern Chinese flavors. The small space, cash-only policy, and simple service require a little flexibility, but the freshly made noodles and generous portions make it well worth the visit if the food is your main priority.
