Maybe this place was a chic place at one time- but that time was in the last century. Nothing special about the menu- it is typical Mexican fare. My wife called out the tortilla chips and salsa as "thumbs down". She's on the money on this one. Salsa was tasty (spicy) but the chips bordered on stale. We were there in the late afternoon (about 4-5) and when we walked in the place was nearly empty. The one server on duty was being constantly harassed by a table full of Hispanic dudes that seemed to thing she was their own private server. Usually it doesn't bother me, in fact I really don't like a server hovering over us. But we and the other customers who came in were treated like second class customers. We saw her once when we came in, once when we ordered, once when she dropped off the drinks and once when we got our food. The rest of the time she was occupied with the seven hombres drinking beer. The dudes kept calling out for her and we had to pry her away from them to get the check and pay. No- we didn't get any refills! The food was warm and pleasantly arranged on the plate but not anything I would write about and say.. .wow... that's great. It was average to below average in taste and portion size. The beans and rice were cold. I hate to judge a place on one experience- but it was a not a place I'll go back to. I kept thinking one of those loud dudes was going to stand up and come over to our table to challenge me, "Okay Gringo, I don't like you, get the f*** out of my restaurant..." Click. They seemed to "own" the place- like it was their hangout. That's what it felt like. Honest.

The Texas toast was fragrant, and the flavours of the sandwich blended very well together. My cousin got the fried catfish platter, which didn't have much of a flavour, but he said that means it's a river catfish. He is a catfish connoisseur and liked it. The jalapeno hush puppies that came with it were excellent. However, the coleslaw had a very odd flavour, and neither of us liked it. It tasted acrid to me. I didn't really like the fries because of the seasoning, but I still had a few. The server initially gave my cousin water instead of the sweet tea that he ordered. They served us our water and sweet tea in mason jars, which looked very nice, but the water was not pleasing to my taste buds as it tasted like unfiltered tap water.

I had a mushroom swiss burger and onion rings with ranch...so yummy. Cons and the reason for the 3 stars...There weren't any clean tables and the menus were dirty...we saw that there was only one guy seating, getting drinks and serving. I'm guessing he was also the cook, because it took an hour and a half to get our food. Another guy showed up near the end of our meal and was helping take orders. They were obviously short staffed, but I was proud of the guys...they were hustling.

We added biscuits and gravy to the ham, eggs, and hash browns, and also shared the French toast every bite was delicious. I did some researches on where to eat in Bandera. I found some good options which are more modern…read more I wanted to eat somewhere historical. I settled to try this place. We walk in and there were at least 3 waiters around looking at us confused if we should order at the counter seeing a line there or just seat ourselves. We finally decided to flag a waitress and ask her. As friendly as people are in this town it was not the case at this restaurant. The lady was short with her answers and almost felt like she is mocking our questions. I saw that the must try is the Texas Spud which seems to be a loaded baked potato. In general from what I know baked potatoes might include bacon and my friend doesn't eat bacon. The way she answered about it was such a turn off! We were about to have a full mean ended up opting to just try the Texas Spud and a side of onion rings since she recommended that The onion rings are old and inedible we left them. The Texas Spud when it came to the table I ended up having a full understanding of it by eating it. So basically it is a baked potato with chili on it (no meat) it feels it came from a can and cheese pickled jalapeño and sour cream decorated with tortilla chips around it. It was ok but I could say I have tried it. The restaurant itself is very old. I believe it is the oldest running restaurant in Bandera I got to see The John Wayne Room which is western-themed dining room. Decorated with memorabilia dedicated to "The Duke". Also they have a salad bar that looks like a wagon. Just take a picture of it from far away the veggies and everything in it looks very sad! Will I return to eat there? Definitely not! But I do not regret trying it out

I live far out of town and stopped here for a quick bite to eat on a road trip. We ignored the…read moredingy looking exterior because we were hungry. We ordered a burger with only bun, cheese, and patty. Waited in the drive thru line for roughly 30 minutes for a drink, fries, burger, and medium blizzard. After all that time, the blizzard was half unblended and the burger had all veggies, yet no cheese on it. I immediately left an online complaint through the survey on the receipt. I just planned to call for a refund as soon as I wrapped up my weekend night shifts, if they didn't reach out to me first. However, when I called less than 72 hours after the initial transaction and spoke to their manager, he rudely said he "cannot and will not refund" the money as I haven't brought the food back to the store and didn't call within 48 hours. I apologized and tried to explain that I didn't know about a time limit, I live far away, and the 48 hour limit had just been passed. I understood that I had messed up by not knowing the company time limit and stuff, so I hung up after he was very rude the entire talk. I then remembered I made the online complaint the day of and hoped maybe he would be kinder if he knew I tried before. I called again, but he was even ruder the second time. The interaction was horrible, and I still won't be getting my refund from them. TL;DR The fries we could eat were mediocre, tasted slightly greasy unless doused in ketchup, blizzard was half blended, every topping we didn't want want on burger was there, yet no cheese in sight... very rude manager/customer service. Never again!
