The food was good - nothing melt-your-face-off amazing, but definitely would go back for some solid tacos and burritos in the area. Wanted the mango drink, but got Jamaica - again, good, but not what was requested. Soda fountain was non-functional. A hidden gem! Valerie's is tucked away in the corner of a Winco Foods parking lot. Inside, it already looks roughed up despite being so new. There are deep grooves dug into the drywall and TVs that aren't turned on. The interior is one skinny, long, low-ceiling, whitewashed space with tables that are too big so that you are sitting far away from your partner. However, it's clean as a whistle inside. Their open kitchen is all stainless steel and is kept spotless. The food they make is super authentic - way better than what we deserve in Oceanside. Their al pastor burrito is my current favorite menu item. The tortilla it comes in is corn and home made. It has a crispiness to the outside from the oil in the al pastor. Each ingredient used is delicious. On top of all of that, it's big but not unwieldy and cheap! 1. Carne asada taco- so much flavor on a fresh thick corn tortilla. It doesn't come with guacamole but you won't miss it. When I first ordered this, I was sad it didn't have guacamole, but it was love at first bite. The meat is not fatty or dry, it's cooked and seasoned just right. I didn't even taste the tender beans, which add some fiber. 2. The ceviche tostada is a special menu item. It's fresh and citrusy ceviche and is served with perfectly ripe sliced avocado and two crispy taco shells. If you're a healthy eater, sub the crispy shells for a fresh corn tortilla. 3. The elote/corn cob has been replaced by esquite, which is cut corn in a cup with a big portion of crema, cheese and tajin. I prefer the esquite with just a little crema, buts that's just me. 4. Other favorites not pictured are Bean/Cheese burritos, the Surf and Turf burrito (one of the best), Carne Asada and the San Diego burritos. We eat here every week, it's our favorite! The price wasn't too bad came out to almost 35$. They had a salsa bar which is awesome. By the time I finished with the salsa bar, my food was packed togo. Valerie's is my go to taco shop in Oceanside. I love the crispy tacos and all of the burritos I've had are always delicious.

We now eat here a couple times a week since discovering Valeries about a month ago, we are hooked! The shrimp burrito is so, so good. I opt for no chipotle sauce and sub for extra pico. The burrito is big, stuffed full of shrimp. It easily stretches across two meals for me. Priced at $8 and it's the best deal in the area. What keeps us coming back to Valeries is how clean it is. Staff is constantly wiping down counters, sweeping floors, cleaning tables & chairs. This spot used to be amazing! Now it is pretty bad. My family loved the carne asada fries, carne asada chips and the carnitas mini tacos. Now, they grab the carne asada out of a bucket filled with juice and throw it on top of the fries dripping wet. By the time you get it home, the fries are soaked with meat juice, yuck! I have tried asking for the meat crispy, hoping they throw it on the griddle for a minute... No luck. Also, they have reduced the amount of fries, whether you pay for extra or not you get barely any. We came to visit our friends in Oceanside for 3 days, and ended up coming to Valeries twice, because it was that good! My first visit, I had initially ordered the al pastor and the Diablo, decided last minute that I wanted to try the carne asada (not sure if this is north county thing, but certain tacos came with whole beans?). I added the carne asada and repeated I wanted no beans, it somehow became two extra carne asada tacos. I had not realized I paid for 4 tacos...oh well, I was a trooper and ate all 4 (my friends offered no help as they were full off two tacos each and wanted to see my attempt). The fullness pain hit after and I hated myself, but the tacos were so good! No regrets! The tacos are a bit more on the expensive side but they are massive and the tortilla is bigger than your street tacos. This tortilla tasted like their homemade, a mixture of corn and flour perhaps, and tasted like perfection, I've never been more impressed with a tortilla as I was with Valeries. The al pastor was the best of the bunch, great flavors and has a delicious smokiness. The carne asada were over cooked so it was too chewy, but the flavors were great too. I did not enjoy the Diablo as much as the breading of the shrimps and the toppings overshadowed the shrimp and the breading was a big mushy. I think it would have been better if the shrimps were grilled. The place is super clean and the salsa bar is delicious as well. They had the light orange creamy salsa which is the spiciest one there (maybe Serrano peppers based), had major heat but such great flavors that I kept dousing it on. I would like to start off with saying I've lived in SoCal my whole life and as a first generation Latino It's hard to for me to be impressed by mexican food since I get all the best mexican food cooked by mom or tias. After we picked up the order and drove home we noticed they forgot a few items from the order. We checked the receipt and the missing items were listed, so I gave them a call. When I explained what happened to the call taker they said it would be 10min. So we drove on back and ended up waiting an additional 10min at the Taco stand. No apology and no discount on the order. We left a tip when we initially paid and totally regretted it once this whole ordeal unfolded. Also, when we went back the same thing happened to another lady in line.
