A bit of a disappointing experience. We don't know Charlotte at all and we popped in because the pub looked busy. Once seated we felt a bit rushed, we barely had time to take a sip of our drink and we were asked if we wanted to order. Ambiance was good, nice window seat view and a good after work buzz. I ordered the grilled chicken with a salad and broccoli. Menu indicated my meal came with one side but we were charged $2 for the salad. My husband ordered the pot roast and enjoyed it thoroughly, no complaints re the quality of the food. It was excellent. As we settled in after a very long drive we started to get a second wind. Last call was 9PM. Server asked if we wanted a drink. Hesitating but having fun we got the next round thinking we had a half hour or so...I drink wine so I can only move so quickly. 9PM and the place was empty. It was clear they wanted us to leave. We didn't finish our drinks and I was upset that there was no warning about the hard close. I won't go back and it put a damper on our evening. read more

Yep, I'm a fan. I've eaten here more than anywhere else in Charlotte. It's convenient to most places in the Uptown area and there's plenty of parking nearby. It's a seat yourself establishment. It's quite small inside. If you're in a rush, best to go elsewhere. Even at its most crowded, there are never more than two staffer working the front of house here. It's slow to order, slow to receive your order, even slower to get any refills or seconds, and even slower than that to get your check and pay. But the food, beer selection, and vibe keep it at 4 stars. The menu doesn't have a ton of selections, but it's large enough. The burgers are great. The buffalo chicken dip is a definite fav of mine. Skip the salads. There's several TVs and all tuned to different channels, which is nice. The staff, when you can get their attention, are very nice and friendly. Overall, I'm definitely a fan and enjoyed my experiences here. read more

Valhalla was on my list for awhile (as a wing lover, I always like to see new pubs, bars, grills, etc.) pop up. Tucked away Uptown, it's a great little spot on gameday or just on a random day out with friends and family. Odin's Pretzel Bites are to die for, the Valkyrie wings are a must (branch out and try the blueberry chipotle bbq) and the lamb burger is delicious, too. Great vibes and great food. Add a few more non-pork options and some breaded wings and I'd be there every week. read more

My wife was in Charlotte for work so I was doing my own thing. I went to Romare Bearden park and was sitting there reading a book and got to thinking "I'm hungry" and started looking at YELP. Valhalla was right behind me across the street. I had the Lagertha's Turkey Sandwich, I have never had green apples on a sandwich. It was amazing!! I got the tator tots instead of the french fries and it made my lunch great. I had a couple of local beers while I was there, don't remember the name. I recommend Valhalla Pub and Eatery for dinner. Valhalla is definitely a solid go to for lunch and happy hour. I've had their shrimp wrap, philly cheesesteak sliders (so good!), loaded fries etc. Everything has been pretty good, as well as their service! Really chill place. I do wish they had better drink specials for happy hour but on the plus side, you can get 15% off your bill with a Yelp check-in! Also to note, they no longer give straws with drinks (going more eco-friendly)... If you're like me, I definitely prefer using a straw. Some places who are choosing eco-friendly, are now investing in eco-friendly straws. However, Valhalla is not as of yet. read more

Pretty good last minute pick I came up with for the friends and family. According to my wife the best ever salmon Benedict she ever had. Then she let me sample and I would say the same. Then we got waffle fries fully loaded.the fries were good but the fully loaded lacked the fully part. The cheese barely covered the home top part.the ham and bacon toppings were as little skinny. But the fries stayed crispy not soggy so that was good. I got the Philly cheeses steak no peppers.and the bread wad really good and fresh. The streak inside was fully covered with cheese. So that part was good I added mushrooms but that was a little lost inside.I had some but not enough as an add on. Our friends had the fish tacos and fish and chips and liked then. So over all success. I don't think I would come back to this place just yet there are lots of places to try in this area. read more

We visited Valhalla after Heroes Con on a Sunday night. It was easy for us to find even though we are overly familiar with the area and it wasn't a bad walk from the convention center. We were able to find a place to sit easily, which was nice. It's not a huge place, but definitely big enough for a neighborhood pub. The staff was friendly and checked in on us often. I got the Cuban and green beans and was nearly able to finish it all. There was so much meat on the sandwich that I had to give up (and I hadn't eaten lunch that day)! The ambiance is definitely that of a friendly neighborhood pub. There were plenty of groups of friends hanging out after watching some of the World Cup. It wasn't overly loud or rowdy, we were able to carry on a conversation without having to raise our voices, which is always nice after a long day working at the convention. read more

This review is for drinks and an app in the bar area. We stopped in before a Saturday matinee at the Knight Theatre (convenient location for doing so!) We were brought in by Yelp reviews. TIP: There was a check-in special for 10% off food. They were very very busy. We found one empty high-top in the bar near the door (burrrrr every time it opened!) where we waited for quite a while before catching anyone's attention. Understandable though, as the Bartender Gal couldn't possibly have been hustling any faster. Loved the Bread & Butter Chardonnay I had, and Husband enjoyed a Brew. We opted to share the Blackened Shrimp. This enntailed six shrimp that while cooked to a perfect texture, were not in any way blackened. There were blackening-type spices sprinkled on top AFTER cooking. Had they been put on and blackened during the cooking process, it would have been indeed blackened shrimp. That being said they still tasted good. This place is apparently very popular. They could sure use more staff as service required much patience, yet was not due to lack of trying on the part of who was working. read more

Great little spot if you're looking for something good and fast to eat during lunch. Lunchtime in uptown can be challenging if you're looking for something quick that isn't fast food. Valhalla has a good amount of seating for either a small or large group and the service is really fast. We were in and out in about 30-40 minute. Prices are reasonable, my wrap which came with a side was $11. Plenty of food choices on their menu for anyone who has dietary restrictions. Will be back for more tator tots! read more

Fun spot! We come here quite a bit! Pros: Great location! TVs inside and seating area outside. Great food! I recommend the English Breakfast, Northern Eggs Benedict, Norwegian Burger. After spending a few hours walking around Charlotte on a quiet afternoon we started eyeballing restaurants to see which one struck our fancy. My husband suggested Valhalla as we walked by and said he'd been once before and liked it so we went in. I walked in and realized that if I ever owned a pub, this is the kind I'd want to own. It's small and warm (meaning it's got lots of wood everywhere which gives it a cozy feel) and the bartender immediately acknowledged us as we entered and told us to sit anywhere we wanted. I liked the vibe here immensely. We chose a small booth and the chalk drawing of the skull glass caught my husband's eye, he loved it. I took a pic for you to see. There were two tv's with football games on but they weren't loud so you could follow along or not, as you chose. We were quickly approached for a drink order by the bartender and when he went off to make them, a friendly server came over and asked us if we'd like a drink. They are prompt and efficient here, for sure! Drinks came and the server came back to see if we wanted food too (it was mid-afternoon) and we asked her for some recommendations. She suggested Gmot's Grilled Chicken, Lodbrok's Lamb Burger, and Freya's Fish and Chips. My husband had already spied the enormous deep fried haddock on a neighboring table's plate so he took her Fish and Chips recommendation. Light and crispy, it was the ultimate comfort food of Guinness battered haddock filet served on a bed of waffle fries with house made tartar sauce (that truly tastes housemade) and slaw. $12. I'd decided the Rollo's Pulled Pork Tacos sounded good this afternoon and received a plate of three well stuffed pork tacos, pulled pork made in house, in flour tortillas topped with cilantro and red cabbage slaw and drizzled with a chipotle blueberry BBQ sauce, also $12. While good, they were need just a little bit of kick, maybe minced jalapeno? I'm not sure, I couldn't put my finger on what I'd add. Tacos don't come with any sides so I added some tater tots which were perfectly cooked (if you read my reviews you know I'm picky about using clean fry oil for fried foods). These were perfectly done, in my book. The food came out quickly, we'd only had about a third of our craft beers. Service was consistently pleasant, and we had frequent check-ins by our server/I could see her looking over at our table to make sure all was well. If I lived in walking distance of Valhalla, I'd quickly become a frequent patron. I just really liked the coziness and friendliness of this pub. I wish we had someplace like this up at Lake Norman!! Stop in and give it a shot. Definitely will revisit when I'm back down in Charlotte. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a great late lunch at Valhalla Pub. We were at the Christmas Village but needed a more filling lunch so we wandered to Valhalla and we are so glad we did. The waitress/bartender was so kind and efficient. We each ordered a drink - I had the Crabbie's Ginger Beer (YUM) and my husband enjoyed a Blue Blaze local brew. I had the shrimp wrap which was delicious but maybe a bit sparse on shrimp. For under $10 with the Yelp check-in coupon, I was totally okay with this. My husband loved the fried chicken sandwich with pineapple. I tried a bite of the chicken and it was crispy and moist inside. Delicious. We will certainly be back! Thanks for a great meal. read more

We ate here before we went to see primus and mastodon, AMAZING! If you've seen the show Vikings some of the food is named after the characters. I got the lagertha turkey sandwich it was perfect, had apples, pulled turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese. I got a salad for an extra $1.75 was very good too. Husband got a lamb burger with mashed potatoes also perfect. We got the pretzel appetizer and the loaded tots, both excellent I definitely loved the tots!!!! Have to remember this place! Disappointed. Passed by this pub when my boyfriend and I were walking our dog. When passing by, we saw a couple with their dogs sitting at the outdoor tables and eating. We decided to wait to eat there until the couple left so our dogs wouldn't bark at each other the whole time. When they left a few minutes later, my boyfriend sat at the outdoor table and I went inside to look for a waiter, there were about 4 customers in the restaurant at this time. I found the bartender (Caucasian, brown hair) and asked him if it would be ok if my party of 2 could sit outside since we have our husky (who sheds like crazy). He tells me, "you can sit out there but you can't take a drink out there." I said, "no drinks, we just want to eat." Then he says, "I'm not serving outside. We have a 50 degree policy." (It was 52 degrees on my weather app at this time). And that's odd. Because we just saw the couple with dogs sitting outside and being served food a few minutes ago. The food here is COMFORT pub food... but even those words don't say it... it's GOOD... nothing mushy or overcooked or over-salted here... Their food is genuinely well made (and with real care)... Something you might find at a person's home... not *just* a pub! My husband and I ducked into Valhalla to grab dinner before the Patton Oswalt show a few weeks ago... I got the meatball plate and he got the wings... the meatballs were tender, well flavored, and just happily delicious... the boiled potatoes and steamed broccoli were, likewise, just perfectly done!! I asked for some butter for my broccoli, and it was garlicky and scrumptious!! I was full, but not uncomfortably stuffed!! My husband (a connoisseur of all things "wings") gobbled his up... they weren't tiny... they were meaty and perfectly cooked... he loved them (and that's HIGH praise from him)!! My husband gave this place a try with his colleagues and kept raving about the grilled cheese. We decided to give this place a try together and he was not wrong that the grilled cheese was AMAZING. Usually I'm not a fan of waffle fries but this place had really good fries. They were not soggy instead had the perfect amount of crispy. We also try the pretzel bites as an appetizer and it was incredible. This place is a little busy we went on a weekday and they were slammed. Seating is first-come first serve from what I gathered. Came for drinks on gay pride parade day. We were pretty worried that it would be crowded. They were worried, too, and had reduced their menu significantly to prepare. We were both wrong. It wasn't crowded but I was disappointed at how little they were offering food-wise. I did try the fish and chips which everyone had recommended. Honestly, I was not impressed. The fried batter was great, truly, but it was fried batter. The fish, on the other hand, was dry. Not like flaky and delicate. Like bad. If this is their best dish, I'd strongly suggest skipping the food altogether. The drinks were solid. I tried multiple citrus margaritas--all were impressive. They have this HUGE citrus press right on the counter of the bar next to a multi-tiered basket stand of citrus fruits. They seem to do it all. Lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, all available fresh and freshly squeezed. The drinks aren't traditional, but with the fresh squeezed juice are undeniably good. Come here for this. My friends also enjoyed the variety of beers. The service was friendly, but slow, even given that they were prepared for a crowd that hadn't yet shown. We liked everyone we talked to and the staff were very accommodating, but more than half of our drinks needed reminding and we had to track down waters and water refills, napkins, and a bill correction. Bathrooms were nice, though. I'd go back, especially to watch a game, but I wouldn't do food there again. read more

This is by far one of my favorite places in Charlotte. All the sauces and mixers for drinks are made in house. The turkey sandwich with the green apple and bacon is my favorite thing! Came here with a group from work for lunch, first visit. I'd love to rate the food, but I didn't get to try it, because apparently the server REALLY wanted to sell us a Viking burger: One of us asked for the black bean burger, and she replied "Viking burger?". "No, ma'am, black bean burger please." I suppose they sound alike, but not really. I myself asked for the Norwegian burger, and got a Viking burger.... Unfortunately by the time it got out to us, our lunch hour was half over and it was too late to have my order corrected. The manager was thoughtful and apologetic, and bought my drink, but I still left hungry. Everyone else seemed to enjoy lunch. Might try again, maybe not. read more
