    Mmmmm fish tacos without pico
    Ashley D.

I'm really not a seafood person but the fish tacos are my absolute favorite. Probably because I do not like cabbage much and they put lots of white sauce. They are also a great price at $1.50 each. When I first started coming here they were $.99 but they are worth the new price. They have specials each day of the week M-F so be sure to check them out. Also they charge to use a card so best to take cash. If you like really spicy hot sauce they have an orange sauce that will light your mouth on fire. I think it is awesome with the fish tacos. If you don't like waiting for your food you can always call it in. The only issue I have is the food is not always consistent. It depends who is working that day. You may get a very small amount of fish or sauce and other days you will get a salad on top of your taco, but it is still awesome and I am rarely dissapointed.

Located in a little room at the east end of Vallarta Bar & Grill, Vallarta Taco Shop has good fish tacos - but even though they are prominently advertised at $1.50, they now charge $1.61 + $0.14 tax (making a fish taco $1.75) - still worth the cost but not what is promised or expected. Also somewhat "deceptive" is their "drive through" and "parking lot", neither of which actually allow customer to easily use them. So look for parking somewhere on the street (if you are lucky enough to find any) and then walk up to the outside order window rather than into the open door next to it which is actually into the bar and not the taco shop (which is basically just a kitchen with nowhere to sit). In addition to alcoholic beverages, the bar "next door" also offers pool tables and live music (but I didn't check on that). I just got a taco.

Carne asada burrito (with beans and cheese only) # 108 - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ewfdidhQLp7yNKZPHPgXyA?select=O9VpQJFphpPdR2OL5BOjXw The first thing that I noticed about my burrito as I prepared it for its close-up, was the fact that it didn't look or smell good. I have yet to experience a burrito that, despite those two things, tastes good in that situation. It was a thick-ass burrito - I'll give them that. However, it was too oily, too fatty and not enough cheese. I barely ate half and gave the rest to some other knuckle-dragger walking down the street. Above average breakfast burrito. Breakfast burrito # 117 - http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ewfdidhQLp7yNKZPHPgXyA?select=E0weKmzrp8PxbzDZ1huwpw I wanted to try Vallarta's (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/ewfdidhQLp7yNKZPHPgXyA?select=4zdwU-p0pb14RjYxR0pSsQ) pollo asado but since their beans aren't very good (and I must have beans) I had to pass. Even though they were nice, they still get two stars and I won't be returning - SO THERE!

This place is the the most affordable and delicious Mexican restraunt in San Diego hands down. The service is on point and the food is simply delicious. Totally a place to relax and enjoy a good time along with scrumptious food. 100% Recommend

This is a 16oz cup that had a portion of about 2 spoonfuls of ceviche. Not even half filled.
    Jenny L.

Really disappointed. I order via postmates from here very often for late night dinners. I have ordered the tostada ceviche before and tonight was the first time I received a very sorry portion of the ceviche. It's literally 2 spoonfuls. Not even enough to cover my tostada. This is the last time they will be getting my service.

Camarones aguachiles and fish tacos! Both are YUM!

There was plenty of parking once we found it. It's a bright blue food truck serving up fresh Mexican seafood and tacos, with a shaded tent area for seating. Each table has salsas and condiments which I loved. The workers here are amazing. Super friendly and welcoming. We ordered two tacos, cabeza and adobada, along with the aguachile verde tostada. This surprisingly was enough for two people. While waiting, we grabbed some salsas. They keep them on ice so they stay fresh and cold which was such a nice touch. They told us we could bring the whole bottle to the table, but we just used small cups. My favorite was the orange creamy salsa. It had a slight chipotle flavor but was pretty mild and perfect with the chips. They also gave us complimentary soup while we waited which was a nice surprise. Both tacos were incredible. The tortillas were warm and held a generous amount of meat. The cabeza was super tender, flavorful, and nicely salted. The adobada was juicy with a smoky, slightly spicy flavor. At $3.50 each, they felt very worth it. The real standout was the aguachile verde tostada. It had raw shrimp in a bright, spicy green sauce with thin sliced red onions. Every bite was fresh, citrusy, and packed with flavor. By the end, the tostada soaked up all the sauce which made it messy in the best way. If you're into that slightly soggy tostada texture, it honestly adds to the experience. We couldn't stop thinking about this place the whole drive home. Definitely coming back!

I wasn't even planning on getting mariscos that day but it felt like a sign so I took it as a little treat. It's a food truck setup with folding tables and chairs and a pretty big parking lot since the plaza itself is kind of dead. Parking was easy and there was plenty of space. I walked up and they were doing construction on the tent right above where you order and it was really loud. I feel like that could've been done during closing because it disrupted the vibe. The area is already a little rough so it just made things feel a bit off. The lady working was super sweet. She took my order, you pay right after and they do accept tap to pay which I love because I don't carry cash. They take your name and call you when it's ready. I got mine to go, waited about 10 minutes, and everything came out pretty quick. They packaged everything really well too which I appreciated because aguachile can easily spill. For the tostada they gave two packs of saltines and three tostadas which felt like a good portion. They also had fresh salsas at the truck but I skipped them since my taco already came with sauce. I ordered a fish taco and an aguachile verde tostada. I went home excited to try everything but honestly it didn't really hit for me. The fish taco was a good size with a lot of cabbage and a white sauce, but the fish was a little too soft. I wish it had more crisp and overall the flavors just weren't memorable. It's about $3.70 so fair, just nothing standout. The aguachile verde was the weakest part. Some shrimp textures were off and a few had a strange aftertaste. I've had a lot of aguachile recently and this was probably the lowest quality. I will say they were generous with the avocado and the sauce itself had a nice spicy kick, it just didn't come together overall. There was also an earthy note from the seeds that was very prominent which I have never experienced in aguach For the price, I paid around $20 with tip for both which isn't bad for the portions. It satisfied the craving in the moment but not somewhere I'd go out of my way to come back to.

Incredibly tasty and can last as 4 meals between 2 people, the portion is HUGE! Not too salty at all but so addictive. Lastly, their aguachile is a must! I came back about 30 minutes later, and they told me my order was almost ready. However, I noticed two new dine-in tables had already received their food. That was frustrating, so I sat down and waited another 10-15 minutes. I finally asked, "Where is my food? I may need to cancel the order if it isn't ready because I have a baby waiting in the car and I need to leave." She said, "No, no, no," ran to the kitchen, brought out my order, and apologized. I don't think I will be coming back because of the poor service. It felt like my takeout order was pushed aside and made after the dine-in orders, even though I had already been waiting. The worst part was the fish fillet with salt and pepper. It was not what I expected at all. The pieces were extremely thin and covered in a heavy coating. I honestly could not accept that this was the dish being served. I would like to know what Chinese restaurant normally prepares fish fillet this way. I also had the feeling that the order was rushed after I complained, which made the experience even worse. Arrived around 5:15pm, and there wasn't a line, but the restaurant had a good amount of diners. Pretty good ventilation at the front of the restaurant, but the back part of the restaurant, likely the overflow room was where my family and I were seated. It had a funky smell to the area and there was poor ventilation. I wanted to step out but I refrained. Everything felt stuffy in that section. The only nice person was the male staff member at the front for checkin. The rest of the staff were not very friendly. The hostess who walked us to our table was not very friendly and just rushed things. Took our drink orders, and didn't say much. Just walked off. I was surprised to see the pitchers with the beverages were sitting on top of a counter outside where customers are, without any lids. Anyone can just walk by and touch or spit in them. Thought that was not very hygienic... Different sections of food. I never expect food at buffets to be of good quality or taste excellent, so the food items were all mediocre. The teppanyaki grill was... well, let's just say they use the same spatula for everyone's entreés. You load up your plate and the cook throws everything on the grill. Uses the same spatulas to cook everyone's food. If you have allergies or sensitivity to spice, then probably avoid this section. He cooked the meat for someone else's plate and then touched the veggies for the other. Used mod spice level sauce for one, and then same spatula on my entreé. My order was non-spicy, but it had a kick since the neighboring sauce got onto my stir fry. Dessert section isn't even labeled.... meaning, the baked/dessert items aren't labeled other than the gelato flavors. Crab legs were very salty. Lobster claws in the cold section were OK though. The warm lobster they serve is limited to 1 per person per serving. Long line, and if they run out, you have to wait or return when they serve again. People were waiting in line while eating their food... the lobsters are tiny, dry, and with very little meat. It is definitely not worth paying the extra for lobster night. The amount of waiting time is ridiculous and there is no guarantee that you can even get a lobster. Some groups have 1 person waiting in line and then when it is their turn, the rest of the group members (5-7) cut the whole line to each get a lobster. I was trying to get 1 for my mother, and I didn't get to eat one, but didn't mind since it didn't even look good. Rest of the foods were mediocre too. I had 1 plate that wasn't even full... lost my appetite. Wouldn't return. Hygiene.... cross contamination... Some people say this place is like the old Pala casino buffet or Las Vegas buffet- definitely not the case. Parking can be compact. Gets busy around 5:45p it seems as more people were waiting in the lobby.
