I had seen Natalie, color director at Van Micael for 7+ years. Due to my schedule over the holidays & Natalie's difficult schedule, I touched up my roots with new talent. When I called in January 2015, I was told by the customer service representative that Natalie had cancelled all of my appointments for the remainder of the year. Natalie did not return my phone calls. I called Van Michael corporate and Susan (CEO?) offered no explanation. Natalie is a decent colorist but unprofessional and over-priced. read more

I feel so Ashamed to say this but I feel it necessary to the public. FYI.... If you have a SPECIAL color request , DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! I went to all the different van Michael salons in Atlanta, the first one turned my hair pink! All I do is ask for blonde and red highlights, you would think that a salon that claims to be the best would be able to handle such a simple task, compared to the many other difficult specialties they do, long story short i went to EVERY van Michael's and their top stylists to try to get it fixed and it never was back to normal until I went back to my personal stylist . I am somewhat hesitant to write this review because I selfishly don't want Spero to complete his apprenticeship with the New Talents salon and move up into the main salon, but he is so so great he deserves all the praise I can give. He had been my go to for over a year for trims, and when I finally decided to make a big change and chop 10 inches of hair off, I knew he had to be the one to do it. I wanted a long bob, layered and shaped so it was low maintenance and easy to style, and long enough to tie back when I work out. I brought in a few photos for inspiration. He sat with me for a good ten minutes reviewing what I wanted, from how I wanted my bangs to blend into the layers, to how steel I wanted the angle from the nape of my neck to the front of the bob to be. As always, he was friendly and personable, though not irritatingly overly-chatty, which I appreciate. At the end of the process, I loved my style even more than the inspiration photos. It's absolutely perfect. It's been over a month since then and it still looks great, whether I wear it messy, straight, or curled! I'll be keeping this style for the foreseeable future, and I'll return to Spero for as long as he's available! read more

New Talents got me an appointment last minute yesterday for a haircut with Levi. However, beyond their control, when I arrived (after an hour and a half drive) the power was out! They were all really nice, and I was panicked because everytime I have called to book with NT I've needed to wait several days to get in. However, it seems those bookings have opened up a bit and they assured me I could get my hair cut before Friday morning (which is a big interview day for me). The only downside that I saw was that this morning I had to call THEM instead of them calling me to rebook. However, all is forgiven because they are getting me in this evening with Levi. Elmira has also cut my hair and she is fabulous. I thought she was very funny and sweet and did a great job. It was just a matter of timing yesterday that landed me with Levi. Since I am a hairdresser, I knew that without being able to blow my hair out, I would be lacking the haircut that I need and expect. I was VERY happy that Levi not only came up and said the EXACT same thing that I had conveyed to the front desk concerning my need for a precision cut, but also that he said that he'd rather not do it if it meant not doing it right. It would have been a different matter if I had long layers in my hair, but it wasn't worth the risk on my medium/short cut. I believe Levi may have me as a customer for a long time. Afterall, I've been getting my hair cut at VM for the past 7 years. (with intermediate cuts from my co-workers in other Aveda or B&B salons) I love them, and won't risk my locks with anyone else. Hello! My name is Monika and I visited Van Michael Salon in Buckhead last week. I was assign to Quinn (sorry, if I spell her name wrong). She was nice at first, we chat for a while and then she asked my about my color. I told her I had it done about 4 months ago and my roots and my ands are almost the same color. I asked if I can have chocolate brown color with some highlights. She said "no"!!! And that's were I should have leave the place. Nobody ever told me that before. "You have really dark hair, I can't do this, maybe next time... bla bla bla" I was shocked. But than - my fault- I decided to stay. She prepared two bottles with different colors. one for roots and onbe for ends, as she explained. After drying and shampooing I sat in front of the mirror and immediately saw the huge difference between my roots and my ends. But Quinn said " oh, it's only because your hair is wet" !!! Can you imagine that???????????? That is SO UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hello, I'm sitting in front of the mirror, I can see!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That's when I got really upset!! Not only she messed up my hair, but she is brave enough to lie to me????? She said that the next step will be cutting my hair. And if I'm still not happy with the color she'll fix it. Yeah, I was very unhappy, thank you for noticing. Experience with Kelly didn't improve my overall experience at all. She was rushing trough the cutting. And 5 minutes later (when I got my hair fixes) she was running out. Oh, the end of the day, who cares that the customer is unhappy!!!!!!!!! I need to be fair and say that I like the hair cut. One little plus for Kelly!!!! Ok. Next I'm back in to Qiunn's chair and praying so hard to get my hair fixed. She showed up with a new bottle of color. I asked " do you thing it's save for my hair??" she said " That's perfectly fine" Well, it wasn't. Sitting under the dryer, I felt like my skin is burning. She shampooed my hair and she tried to make me feel comfortable talking about salon makeup artist. She said that he was doing her makeup while I was drying my hair. Sorry for interrupting !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She starts talking how great my color looks like! Oh, my God, really????? I didn't see it. My roots were (and they still are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) at least two shades lither than my ends. Lovely!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She stopped one of the makeup artist (don't know his name), explained my situation and asked him about his opinion. He said the color looks great. I was absolutely shocked! The Van Michael Salon hire really rude or really blind guys!!!! And I was "ready" to go. And there is another surprise. Like I didn't have enough. At the front desk there was a manager (don't remember his name). He asked me about my experience. I told him all above. He said "I'm sorry" but I didn't feel he was. Especially when he asked me " do you want extra cash to your tip'???????? for what??????????????????????? Excuse me?????? But that's not the end of the story. I finally gave tip to Kelly (20% to be exact) and I was going to Quinn's station to give her hers very well earned 10%. Yes., that was a sarcasm!!! And what I see? Quinn sitting at the makeup artist chair and receiving a make up!!!!!!!!!! Ok, is that why she was in rush??? Is that why Van Michael salon hired her ?? Is that a rule in VAN MICHAEL SALON to put their hairdresser in front of the customer?????????????? Btw did I mention that next day was my birthday and I really wanted to look good? Well, I wasn't. Van MIchael Salon ruined my hair as well as my birthday! I will never tell anybody anything good about VAN MICHEAL SALON. I have been having a stylist friend cut my hair for years. He was out of town and I needed a hair cut. I went and saw Nilan at the Buckhead location. She did such a good job that I'll be switching to her as my regular stylist. I felt comfortable with her and can't get over how great my hair looks! Fantastic! read more

I have been going to this salon for a while, but I think it's time for a change. I think the stylists get too comfortable knowing that you have become their client so they feel like they can talk to you and treat you however they feel they want to. My colorist was so rude to me, just because I decided to change and only keep my color appointment. She made sure to tell me that the next time I cancelled my cut appointment I would have to reschedule my color appointment too because she needed 1 1/2 hour for just a color appointment. The girls who book the appointment should have given me the details of her appointments. Instead, I got corrected and reprimanded by my colorist. How was I supposed to know what amount of time she needs? Shouldn't the booking girls know this? I have tipped my colorist every time I have gone to her and taken care of her well, she could have been a little more courteous seeing that I have been going to her for so long (since she was a new talent and before she got on the main floor)! So much for taking care of your loyal customers. This salon looks to make $ out of you. They are way over priced for highlights, color and even cuts. My colorist has been insisting that I do Ombre (which runs about $200) when I have told her I just want partial highlights (about $140). She keeps saying that 'with your hair, Ombre would be better'. Whatever that's supposed to mean or if that's supposed to be her way of getting $ out of me. There is no way to make any adjustments to your appointments because they are like a farm, and can't accommodate any change. Not to mention, the girls are the reception and check out are always SO SO rude! NEVER going back. If you're considering this salon - DON'T! read more

Bad experience with horrific results. 4 spots on my head which are now 1 inch long due to breakage. I had never been there and was told that Khaia was great with blondes. So, I wanted to get my roots done, quoted at $95. In the chair, I was informed the price is actually $185. At the end, my hair was blond with an orange hue which was not what I wanted. I had to come in for a redo. After that time, my hair was ruined. I asked for a refund, in vain. Please do not waste your money there. If you care about your hair, go elsewhere. read more

I started seeing her about 18 months ago to transition away from my not so natural blonde to my more natural brunette. Dallas did a great job matching the right shade of brunette and even bringing my hair a touch darker which looks fantastic on me if I do say so myself. I waited to write this review the day after my visit so that I wouldn't say anything too nasty in the heat of the moment. I visited the salon for a color and I must say it was spot on- Juan did an amazing job and he is the only reason why I gave two stars. Everything was going fine...the assistant was sweet and gave me the normal massages, but when it came time for the styling... It could not have been any worse. I was literally sitting on the edge of my seat with anxiety and sweaty palms watching her attempt to curl my hair. She chose to use a flat iron, which I know is a normal technique for most skilled stylists- but I felt like an experiment as she was giggling her way thru my $200 hair appointment. It was obvious that she was not confident with what she was doing- and I even asked her if it would be easier for her to use a curling iron. I requested that my hair be curled away from my face because I part my hair down the center...she just wasn't getting it. I literally had to take the flat iron from her and show her how to do it. When she was finally finished, she said to me 'thanks for bearing with me'... WHAT? At that point all I wanted to do was get out of there. I thought that VM was an upscale salon, particular about the talent they have on the floor and known for their professional staff. The styling is a key element of the appointment because you see the end result. I got no product in my hair, no round brushing or volume in my roots...the basic treatment. I know I sound particular, but that is why I choose to go to VM. This girl has got to GO. read more

I came to Van Michael to get my hair and make-up done with my bridesmaids for my wedding. Most of us were pleased with the result but there was some seriously shady business on the part of the salon. At random, the coordinator booked some of my girls with specialists which cost them twice as much as they expected. Many of my bridesmaids came from out of town and were working on a budget based on the quotes that the salon had sent me. Yes, the coordinator had sent me an invoice after she sent me the quote sheet showing that she had set some of them up with specialists, but as a busy bride I hadn't looked at the invoice by line item and didn't realize they had done this without my request. It seems extra shady to never call that to my attention and just slip it into an attachment--they are taking advantage of the hectic nature of wedding planning. 110 for putting someone's hair half up is ludicrous and as rude as they were when I asked why they had assigned specialists at random just ruined my morning. As another yelper noted--it does feel like a loud hair factory in there and if you are looking for a personalized bridal experience I'd recommend going somewhere else. I wish I had. read more

This review is for Kinsey at New Talents. While we were consulting what kind of haircut that I wanted to have done, she told me that my shoulder length hair was a total reconstruct. This was an accurate statement since I had a bad haircut previously with no sense of any real style. I told her that if she needed to take off a few inches to fix it, that was fine. I wanted shorter hair for the summer. Here comes the shocker. She said, I can do one of 2 things. You can leave and come back or you can have 2 separate hair appointments. She said she was unable to fix my cut in one visit since she just didn't have time and she refused to be rushed. Mind you, we are having this conversation after 15 minutes of her telling me how messed up my hair was and asking me to arrive 30 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. Why not move the next appointment like you did to me? She was clearly running behind and I was the one that was going to pay the price for it. I could either leave to free up her time slot or pay for 2 haircuts and get half my cut now and half later. I didn't like either choice and told her I wanted my entire cut now without splitting it up in 2 visits. So I got the cut that she had time for which wasn't much. She did fix the unevenness but did not take off any length in affect making me have to come back for another cut. I told her to take off at least 3 inches and I doubt if she even took off 1/2 inch. She made me feel unwelcome for being there while inviting me to leave all the time blaming the scheduling desk for putting her in the weeds. As a rule if you ask a customer to leave, they usually will not return. They will spend their time and money where it is welcomed elsewhere. While I understand that I may have to wait for a stylist that is running behind, I cannot comprehend why she did not try to accommodate me while I was there. read more

I've been going to Van Michael for several years for both cut and color. Both of my colorists had gone back to school and one changed locations so I was in the market for a new colorist. My stylist recommend Bree, who is early in her career and therefore in New Talents. Bree was not only professional with a great personality and attention to detail, but she did an amazing job on my highlights. My husband said he liked it better than how it was done before. What is also wonderful is that since Bree is still in New Talents, her cost is less than the more experienced colorists. I strongly recommend this colorist if you are in the market for someone excellent and affordable. read more

Michah is my stylist, and all of my appointments with her are amazing. She cuts both my husband's and my hair. He is european, and I am east african. He has never been more happy with his hair cuts (neither have I), and she also styles my hair. I have unruly, curly, frizzy hair, that usually intimidates most caucasian stylists. Michah can not only tame my mane, and make it smooth and shinny, but I always love my cuts. I am always in and out within an hour. She has also gone above and beyond for me, by staying late to get me in for a hair cut, before a vacation. I recently had to move out of state, she even did a little research for me and recommended some salons in my new area. She is phenomenal. read more

I have never been a salon girl. With curly hair and a natural mix of blonde, never really had the need. With time comes age, and with age comes color. I decided that the first time in my life that I NEEDED color, I decided to go bold and become a red head. Anne was absolutely amazing!!! She treated me like I was family. But, aside from being nice, her work was FANTASTIC!!! After color, I have a cut with Elizabeth. I think this part scarred me more than the color as most do not cut curly hair well. 2 for 2 - Elizabeth gave me a PERFECT cut! what happened? i used to see someone here but the stylist moved on; i asked for a new stylist and was given an appointment with a much more expensive stylist. usually a stylist offers a shoulder massage during consult and puts your feet up when shampooing but neither was offered to me. in fact, during the shampoo and conditioning portion of my appointment, all three clients next to me had their feet up. not me. as i departed the salon i noted one stylist providing a customary shoulder rub for her client. again, wasn't offered to me. this may seem an odd complaint but it's part of the brand. and when paying 50% more for a simple hair cut, i at least wanted some of the normal services i'm accustomed to at the salon. also: the person i was ushered to for the payment process was unbothered and rude--she took her time and hardly attempted eye contact--it was quite like a trip to the department of motor vehicles. what a difference a few years makes! read more

I have been going to this salon for about 3 years. Hobbs who colors my hair is wonderful and does an amazing job. Brandon, a self professed "top stylist" on the other hand is another story. When I sat in his chair he asked me what I wanted and i proceded to give him just a couple of wants. I wanted it to still be able to be pulled back and my bangs not too short. Other than that I was up for suggestions. After all he is the "professional". I wasn't in his chair 2 minutes when he threw up his little hands and threw a total hissy fit. Stating that he was "frustrated" and needed to just walk away. WHAT? He ran to tell the manager that he did not want to cut my hair because we did not "mesh". ha. obviously he didn't remember cutting my hair several other times and didn't have a problem meshing. I am probably the easiest person in the world to work with. My stylist can pretty much talk me into anything, like the several times I came out with my hair 2 inches all over. So, if this diva can't work with me then he pretty much SUCKS! Long story short, stear clear of this guy. You pay over a hundred dollars for a haircut and this is the way you get treated. AMAZING EXPERIENCE and I will definitely be back! My first visit to Van Michael NTS started with an old work picture. The pic was taken 5 years ago when I had super-short hair, terrible color, and an extra 70 pounds. After losing the weight, and growing my hair out long, I was well overdue for a new pic. I wanted a new look from the best of the best...I went to see Harry Wood. I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY by the entire experience! I've never been so thrilled with a cut and style! Not only is Harry amazingly talented, he and his awesome assistant London, took the time to TEACH ME how to get the look at home. I was educated on products, styling tools and techniques. Harry even emailed me a bunch of technique videos from his IPAD to help me achieve the look on my own. Next, I saw Chanel for makeup to complete the look. Again, I was OVERJOYED with the results. She also taught me technique as she worked her MAGIC on my face. Needless to say, I got the celebrity treatment. I walked out of the salon feeling red-carpet ready if only just for a new work photo! I do not recommend going here. Well at least the New Talents I've never been to the salon. My first appointment was a pretty good expirence I had Paul and he did a good job.But my second appointment was so bad I will never go back. Paul was not available so I had Mia and she did not listen to anything I asked for. I told her that I wanted to keep it as long as possible and that I'm still growing out layers and I didn't want anymore. She cut it way too short and so many layers! I mentioned no layers multiple times in the appointment. I was very mad. When she finished, I noticed the multiple layers and asked if there was more layers than before and she went on and on about how it will lay better and stuff but I was mad. Getting a haircut from Sal was always great - he was always professional and did a great job with my very thick hair. I went here about 3 weeks ago and have been meaning to write a review since then, it was just a great experience. It was my first visit and I signed up for one of the 'new talent' openings on Monday evening. I was assigned a stylist, and Spero was a ROCKSTAR. I am not too frequent with my haircuts, so i did need alot of cleaning up and getting my hair into a nice 'style'. I gave Spero an idea of what I have liked and had in the past, but pretty much gave him the go-ahead to do what he thought would look best on me and with my facial features. NAILED IT. I enjoyed the whole process with the professionalism with the entire salon, and just enjoyed chilling and talking with Spero. All around good time. Would totally go back. read more

I've been going to VM for almost 3 years now and have been very pleased with Elizabeth. Booked with Spero on Friday Nov 5th for 11am and I was still waiting for a simple dry cut at 1135. I was told it would be only about 5-10 minutes longer! At this point I knew I needed to leave for work. This was totally unacceptable. I decided to call to rebook and got an appointment for Saturday afternoon. Then got a call the stylist had to go home sick. Now I can't get an appointment for 2 more weeks. The problem with this salon is not the actual stylists. I have had two whom I've really liked. The problem for me is the service. I stopped going here years ago because of it and, after returning, made it through one haircut before having another bad experience. I'm done. They act as if they are doing you a huge favor by allowing you to set foot in their salon. The receptionists are extremely rude. This has been a constant annoyance for me throughout my experience with them but I guess a bad attitude is something you have to deal with at a lot of salons. Yesterday I called them because I was about 8 minutes late to my cut and was still about a half mile away in traffic and was simply trying to let them know that I would be there soon. I was asked to hold and when the man on the phone came back he said he was sorry but they would not be able to see me. Now, I understand their policy and that if I were to show up after their 15 minute window they would have every right to cancel my appointment. But what I don't understand is why on earth they took that approach, which immediately made me angry, and made no effort whatsoever to try to make it work. It would have been so simple and made so much more sense to explain their policy but allow me to try to make it there before 15 minutes, rather than immediately blowing me off. I explained that my hair is long and all one length and just needed a trim, that I did not need a shoulder massage or a shampoo and style, and that I didn't think it would take very long if they could please help me out, given that I'd already left work. My stylist's next appointment was at 3:45 and they just kept asking me if I wanted to reschedule. Once I got off the phone with Van Michael, I called Jamison Shaw (further away from where I was than Van Michael), they immediately fit me in with someone who cut hair and had me in and out by 3:45. All that to say, had Van Michael worked with me, either by letting me know their policy but hoping that traffic cleared up quickly, or offering to try to fit me in with someone else, I would have been finished before my stylist's next appointment and they would have kept me as a client. Clearly that doesn't matter to them and I have no patience for that. From One Stylist to Another~ I wanted to share an experience I had recently at Van Michael in Buckhead. To preface, I am a hairstylist and I also work at an Aveda salon located in Nashville TN. I have been staying in Atlanta lately because my father has multiple myeloma, a cancer that affects the blood. He just had a stem cell transplant and I have been sharing the duty of care-giver with my mother. My Dad has never been in the hospital a day in his life until he got cancer so this has been a very difficult and different way of life for us recently. As a stylist, it is not often that I get to walk into a salon and sit down in the chair of another stylist and be their guest. Getting my hair done looks more like me asking a co-worker in the break room if he/she would be willing to stay late after working all day and slap some color on my head. Then, I usually put a plastic cap on my noggin, drive home and rinse the color out myself. Getting what I call a "real" haircut is a rare treat. It's usually a quick, dry cut to keep me looking fresh. I don't often get the amazing shampoo, haircut and beautifully blown out style. Being in the Aveda network, I am very familiar with Van Michael salon and it's best practices. I attended the Aveda Institute here in Buckhead and several of my classmates work for Van Michael. I have also been a follower of Harry Wood, a long time veteran stylist, and his leadership at the salon and in the hairstyling industry. So, I reached out and asked for a favor, from one stylist to another. I sent Harry a message and explained briefly why I was in town. I asked if there might be an opportunity for me to get a haircut during my time here in Atlanta. He responded immediately. I know he didn't have to do that. He probably gave up his lunch to work me in. I know how that goes. He didn't have to see me that day, but he did, and I will never forget that. I just have to say that I had an absolutely incredible experience at the salon! I was welcomed immediately and greeted so kindly. I was offered a beverage. I had just taken a seat when someone came by to give me a tour. Harry and Khia came by to introduce themselves to me and talk briefly about my haircut and color. I had an awesome consultation with them about changing my hair. It was time for something new! They both made some great suggestions on trying something new with my cut and color, and I agreed to that. Khia started my service off with a wonderful shoulder massage. What a treat! She did a fantastic job! My color is rich and shiny and gorgeous and it was customized just for me! I was always escorted every where I went. I was never "passed off" to anyone. I had an incredible hand massage while my color processed. Again, what a treat! The salon manager came over an introduced herself to me, welcomed me, and made sure to let me know she was available to serve me in any way. Harry spent more time talking with me about how to customize my cut and sass it up. He used some great techniques to give me an edgy, classy bob that fits my style! My hair has swing and movement and is anything but boring! He made time for me. He did not have to fit me into his day, but he did and I never once felt like it was an inconvenience. I received the same service that I try to give each of my guests! It was absolutely a fantastic experience! On a more personal note, it was exactly what I needed at a difficult time in my life. I felt important. I felt refreshed and I was able to go back to the hospital energized and ready to give to my Dad. My tank had been filled and that is exactly what I needed on that day. That is exactly what it means to be in the service industry. I left feeling brighter and lighter than when I came in. Van and his brother and their team have done an excellent job of setting a high standard of excellence and professionalism. Their business operates like a well oiled machine, but I never once felt like a number. It is obvious that everyone who works at this company knows what is expected and how to deliver a quality and memorable experience. I will be back. I will make the time and spend the money to come to Van Michael on occasion when I'm visiting family in Atlanta and relish my time as a guest sitting in the chair, instead of standing behind the chair. I will also go back to Nashville ready to serve my clients with the same passion! Thank you Harry and Khia and the whole Van Michael Team for being my Daymaker!! Unfortunately, I went to Van Micheals at 39 West Paces Ferry Road Northwest, Atlanta, GA 30305, to get a spiral perm with KHIA MCLENDON and I ended up paying a total of $404.92; I ended having a half of my hair completely straight and after talking to the manager I was told that KHIA did not feel like helping me because she is one of the top ones and she knew what she was doing.
