She listened to me, made suggestions and we went for a shorter look for what I have had for years and I loved it! She took her time to do a well detailed cut. Ginger was cutting my hair for about a year and was doing a great job, until my last haircut. She hacked the back of it up. My partner told me it looked like a fifteen dollar haircut. I paid eighty for it and tipped her thirty, she just bought a house so I was trying to look out her. I didn't check the cut before leaving because she had always done such a great job on my hair. I called and they rescheduled me with Justin. He straightened out Ginger's mess. I am not happy to leave this review, but there's no excuse for what she did to my hair, and Ginger knows it. I've gotten a cut here a few times. The first time was ok. Since then, the cut has gotten worse and worse, even with a different person. I don't think they know how to cut textured and curly hair, at least not the couple of people who've cut my hair. They always want to straighten my hair too, so much so that they've completely dried out my hair! I'm currently sporting the worst hair cut I've ever had - I call it a pagoda cut. I asked for blended layers and got a triangle cut instead. The person was literally cutting my hair as I was paying because she realized she hadn't cut it evenly. I gave this place a chance but I won't be back after this hair cut disaster! read more

When I made an appointment for a blow dry and style I told the stylist exactly what I wanted and was told my bill would be between $60-80, then when I got to checkout I was charged $140. This place has its mix of good and bad stylists. I think 72 (includes tip) for a haircut (above a new talent) is a little steep, but maybe that's just me. The lady I went to did an okayjob, but she cut my hair a couple inches shorter than we agreed upon. However it ended up turning out well and she was very polite. read more

If I could choose no stars that would be a better reflection of what happened to me at this "salon." I was in this establishment for 11 hours. I went in for balayage and was told that the guy I chose was great at it. The stylist, Dirk, colored my hair at least 4 times. It wasn't just the wrong color or bad technique, he FRIED my hair until it broke off! He then told me that he would only charge me a little more than the standard price for the extra color. I don't even have words to describe how horrible this place is. I left their salon with botched hair at midnight with no apology or solution to fix it. I have been in contact with the CEO who has been no help and never apologized. Dirk is still being allowed to color and the salon will tell you that he can do balayage. The salon that I went to to correct my hair told me that they have seen at least 4 clients come in from Van Michael Salon with fried hair & messed up color. I personally spoke to a woman who had an appointment with Dirk for balayage and he burned her hair off with bleach! SAVE YOUR HAIR & go somewhere else. Anywhere but Van Michael salons! read more

Well, I needed a change from the norm (I still love my girl but wanted a different approach). They assigned me to Emily because our calendars were congruent. Well, did I luck out or what? Thank you so much Emily for a great cut, thank you for listening to my desires for my hair even though the length isn't quite there yet, she knew how to give me what I wanted with the length I do have and it looks fantastic!! The service from the moment I entered the door all the way through my cut and the checkout was just what should be happening all over the city. Thank you for not cutting corners in the service department, Van Michael, I totally appreciate that! I forgot to mention how patient and articulate Emily is while she is telling me what she is doing every step of the cut, and while she explained how to curl my hair so it looks natural. I moved from South Florida to Atlanta about a year ago and found Van Michael Salon through a recommendation. I get hair extensions and highlights, while I have always been very pleased with the service and outcome of my hair this past week I had an exceptional experience. Following the hectic holidays I forgot to make an appointment to get my hair done before I start my new job. I called to see if I could get squeezed in I was told my stylist and colorist were totally booked for the 4 day window I had. However they said they would check with them personally and see what they could do. Both my stylist Ginger and colorist Jasper reached out to me and made it happen. I have been going to this salon now for just over a year. They were bought out or converted to a Van Michael salon in the very recent past. With the change came some cute we are items when going to the salon for a color: there are sign off that have to be signed before you can have your color to ensure that the company is not held legally responsible for any damages done to your hair scalp etc. It is also a requirement for you to place your handbag and personal items in a plastic bag provided by the salon. I have no issue signing the paperwork, I just wish the front desk would do it instead of my poor colorist. I have no issue with the plastic bag as long as the plastic bag is clean. On several occasions I have been given a reused plastic bag that already contained someone else's hair color...this appears to be contrary to their intent. Thankfully I have caught this issue and gotten a replacement before securing Kate or Michael directly inside it. I love Christy my stylist and Jai for color is fantastic. The front desk staff could use some help though as they appear to think that they are running a Fortune 500 instead of signing people in for hair appointments and checking them out when they want to pay. I attempted get a bang trim, as I've been told in the past on at the end of every appointment that I could come in "at any time" for a free bang trim. This appears to only be partially correct. You can get a free bang trim if you're willing to give up an hour of your precious time to wait for someone to be available to do the bang trim. Other than the somewhat snotty attitude of the front staff, the "full of hair color protective plastic bags" and that little wrinkle with the bang trim... I love the place and it is literally 3 blocks from my home. If I was rating them solely on the stylist and colorist it would be five stars. read more

He was so professional and you can see he was highly trained by Van Michael Salon themselves . They have very reasonable prices starting at $49. I know they have more expensive prices but I decided to keep within my budget and chose a new younger recently trained hairdresser and I was not disappointed . I would highly recommend this salon. Go see "new talent" Mary! I have long hair and I typically wait a little longer than I should in between haircuts... partly because I always left my past hairdresser a little unhappy with the way it looked. Mary took 5+ inches off - it had been more than a little while since my last cut - the first look is always kind of a shock but I can honestly say this is the first time in YEARS I haven't left the salon unsatisfied/upset with the look and that's a big deal. About 2 weeks later and I still can't believe how good it looks - it has so much more movement and body than it has in years and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. She took the time to listen to how I typically style my hair, what I was looking for, and even showed me pictures to get a good feel for what I wanted. As she was cutting she explained what she was doing and why, and gave me tips for blow drying and styling on my own. It was such an improvement from my experiences with my previous stylist, I wish I had found Mary sooner. She is not only super talented, she's also super personable and friendly. I even got a little hand written postcard in the mail from her. I wasn't expecting such good service from a big name salon but now I don't think I'll go anywhere else. I've been going to this salon for YEARS before it converted to Van Michael. It's the only place where they didn't turn over stylists/colorists EVERY time I went to get my hair cut like the 6 other salons I'd tried before. I would scream it from roof tops if I didn't hate heights, but ZACK M. is the BEST hair cut you will ever have. He's been "My Hair Guy" for 4 years and I've never gotten anything but amazing cuts that grow out insanely well. My hair almost looks better growing out because it becomes its own new style. I am not one to stick with the same cut for more than 3 months so we've been through long layers, blunt bobs, bangs, all sorts of stuff, and every time-dead on the money exactly what I was looking for. Don't give him too much instruction, say what you want, maybe show him a picture, and leave him to work his magic. This guy is the best thing that ever happened to hair in Atlanta. I now work in Alpharetta rather than Midtown and I drive the 2.5 hrs in traffic to see him. He's one to follow, no matter which salon he's at. read more

I have been going to the Van Michael Salon since February 2015, and I am in love with the salon. Sue styles my hair and Lulu waxes and tints my brows. I scheduled my first appointment on 2/20/15. My hair was dry and brittle, and I didn't know what to do with it. I was referred to Sue. Since then, Sue has completely transformed the texture of my hair, and I continue to see her every couple of weeks. Also, if you need your brows done, YOU HAVE TO BOOK AN APPT WITH LULU! She is like the brow God. Before Sue suggested that I let Lulu wax and tint my brows, I was doing my brows on my own. I have thick brows and a full face, and have had horrible experiences in the past when I've paid for brow services. I was reluctant to have Lulu provide a brow service for me initially, but now Lulu is the only person allowed to touch my brows. She always does them so that they frame my face perfectly. If your looking for someone to correct your brows, or just some one new to provide a brow service, I strongly recommend Lulu. read more

I have been going to van michael salon in midtown atlanta for the past couple of years. My hair colorist, Dirk, is great but the front desk staff good take some lessons in good customer service. I had the worst customer service experience from the front desk staff today.I planned weeks ago to have hair painting done and stopped the salon after I had made a general appt for hair cut/color to see if I needed to adjust the appointment to reflect the new service. The front staff informed me that that this was not necessary and that I could just let my colorist know that I wanted it the same day. Today, when I went for my appointment, they could not do hair painting and could not accommodate a time later in the week though that was what was instructed by my hair colorist. I have absolutely no spare time if I don't plan ahead to do things so this was extremely frustrating to me. I had been looking forward to this change in hairstyle for weeks. And then to have the receptionist not take me seriously and understand my point of view was really disrespectful. I do not feel valued as a customer and will likely take my business elsewhere read more

Today I had another appointment with my stylist sue and it was completely refreshing. I left feeling like a successful man. During our haircut I couldn't help but to notice a frantic,ass kissing,drugged out Andy Warhol looking man. Who ever this blond haired, horse toothed, creeper is should be replaced. The staff is all high end, successful beautiful people, and then you have this guy walking around. To no surprise Jane Fonda was in the shop today getting pampered. From my experience in the entertainment industry I personally hate when people find out who I am and what I do, and immediately begin to sell themselves to me. Which is exactly what this arrogant flop of a hairdresser was doing. I was trying to just pay and leave but this gentleman was too busy trying to swoon Mrs.Fonda he prevented anything from being accomplished for at least 5minutes. The cute young lady kept saying thank you what ever his name was like get the heck out of the way and he wouldn't move. Finally they moved on with him nipping at her heels. The whole exchange stuck with me until tonite while I sit at a bar writing this review. Please transfer remove or what ever is possible with this disturbing individual.
