If you want cute and cozy, this is your joint! The vibe of Vanda screamed "we are your local neighborhood Italian spot." There'a not a lot of seating--maybe less than 20 tables and a small bar. We went on a Friday afternoon and were seated immediately. The aesthetic is bright and airy with unique decor--lots of plants! The staff was very friendly and personable. Our waiter attentive and gave great recommendations. The menu was very well rounded with a good selection of apps, soups/salads, pastas, full entrees, and desserts. We ordered the Hand Cut Fettuccine Bolognese, Cacio E Pepe, & sausage/bean soup for our main dishes. All were fantastic and we'd order them again! The Burrata on the Cacio E Pepe was so fresh and some of the best I've ever had. The bolognese sauce had a significant amount of meat in it and it wasn't over-saucy. The portions were fairly large--especially the Cacio E Pepe. BUT the star of the show was the Homemade Focaccia *chef's kiss*. Out of this world. Exemplary. Dream worthy. It was served with butter (which to my understanding changes regularly--ours was a strawberry chocolate), olive oil, and a garlic purée with flaky sea salt. I could eat the garlic purée by the spoonful. The focaccia had a crispy crust but the inside was like a cloud. It wasn't over oily/greasy like some focaccia I've had before and the seasonings on top were just right. If you were to order only one thing, it should be this item. You will not be disappointed! If you are traveling through Providence and are staying closer to downtown, this is well worth the trek. It's only about a 10-15 minute drive south. The one reservation I have about the restaurant is the parking seemed limited. On a Friday afternoon it was almost full, so I imagine in the evenings and on weekends the lot fills up fast (but maybe there's more parking in the back that I didn't see). Also, we were wearing athleisure and didn't feel out of place. Everyone was dressed fairly casual but I could see the evening crown dressing more business/smart-casual. I'm leaving 3 stars due to consistency. Our portions were completely lacking. I can clearly see from other patrons pictures the difference. My calamari literally had 10 rings, not even I think. It was mostly arugula. My arugula salad was delicious however, had 2 pieces of prosciutto and it was the cheap kind ! My meat and cheese board was delicious however, it had literally two pieces of meat for each of its kind. So weird. And it smelled so good and authentic in there. Our waiter , David , is excellent ! Friendly, knowledgeable and efficient . All you would want when dining out . The atmosphere reminds me of some of the bar- restaurants in Rome. Now the Food ! The Foccia is the best I've had . I had a special entree . Fusilli with carmelized onions and game hen . WOW ! A flavor explosion . Ann had the salmon and vegetables which was excellent . Vanda is a new favorite. On par with Plum Point Bistro and Matunuck Oyster Bar, two of our favorite places to dine in RI. Popped in for the first time on Tuesday evening, around 5:45. Strongly recommend making a reservation. While Marc seated us right away, if we'd arrived a little later, it would've been a long wait. The space is cozy and intimate. Very nice, but also very popular (for good reason). Weekend dinner without a reservation? Seems unlikely. Marc was also our server. He is awesome. Knows the menu thoroughly and made wise recommendations. Eggplant appetizer and meatball appetizer. Mixed greens salad with apple cider Vinagarette. Focaccia with garlic spread and a butternut squash... butter. Hm. Lots of butter in that sentence. Mains were the pork chop and the malfedine. Dessert was pizelle to go. Drinks were the bartender's special (gin with honey and additions) and a classic dirty blue martini. Multiple specials. Quite tasty and easy drinking. Everything was on point and tasty. Marc and the staff were exceptional. Friendly, quick, and efficient. We were aware of the time and need to free up the table for later reservations, but they didn't say anything and didn't rush us. The only reason dessert was to go was because we asked for it to go. First rate experience. We will absolutely be back and ask for Marc. And next time, we'll lean in on the appetizers and salads. We have heard great things about this restaurant and have been wanting to try it! Sometimes when I have passed by the restaurant, it has been very busy even on weekdays. This restaurant is by the rotary across from Cumberland Farms. We did notice the sign is right above the entrance on the black awning and next to Captain's Catch. However, there does not appear to be an actual sign by the road. The parking lot is a little on the smaller side too. I called on a Sunday to ask if reservations were needed to arrive at 5:30pm and they said we should be okay. When we arrived it was nice to see they already set aside a table for us with a high chair as we had our baby with us. The decor inside the restaurant is nice with a rustic feel. For appetizers, we had the arancini balls (3) which were a special and delicious. We also had the eggplant, ricotta, herbs, pomodoro, and basil which was layered with eggplant and tasty. We also had the meatballs (3), pomodoro, ricotta and basil which were very flavorful and soft. For my entree I chose the gnocchi alla sorrentina, pomodoro, cream, mozzarella, pecorino and basil which was simple and tasty. The gnocchi was very soft and tender but I wish there was more cheese. My husband got the breaded veal cutlet, pizzaiola pomodoro, sharp provolone, eggplant, broccoli rabe and basil which was really crispy and flavorful. My father in law got a ravioli special with ricotta and mushroom which he enjoyed but the portion was much more on the smaller side. None of these portions are huge by any means but certainly enough to fill you up. All desserts are homemade - so we had to try them! For dessert, I had the olive oil cake, lemon curd, berry and vanilla gelato which was very tasty and a perfect balance of all ingredients. My husband had the affogoto: illy espresso and vanilla gelato which was good but a small portion. My father in law had the flourless chocolate tartufo, salted caramel, hazelnut, and candied orange which was very rich and delicious. All presentations of our dishes were very nice. It was also nice to see that they provide a take out service too for ones who want their meals to go. If anyone ordered for pick up, they would just go to the bar to grab their order. The restaurant is really nice but has limited space so I would recommend reservations. We did notice there were no prices on their desserts which is sort of odd but more upscale. Also, the prices at this restaurant I felt were higher for what you would find in this area. Pricing is more comparable to a restaurant in Providence for some reason. Service was good and the atmosphere was great and clean! The food was delicious even though the portions are not large. Pricing is okay. Overall, we would certainly come back here for another meal! So if you're looking for a new Italian place in the area, come check Vanda out! read more

Food and service was very good. I rated 2 stars because after an hour and 40 minutes of being at Vanda, we were asked to leave because they had another reservation waiting. There was only 2 people in our party and our tab was over $200 so we weren't sitting & drinking water, taking up space. It was very disappointing that a handful of people came over to "check and see if we needed anything". While the busboy stood behind our table with new place settings. Also the manager didn't have the confidence to ask us to leave so she sent the server. I guess she knew we would be upset considering we were finishing dessert and we were just dropped fresh cocktails. I have to admit it was one of my favorites until then. I refuse to spend money somewhere that will kick out customers due to lack of poor organization of reservations. read more

Went to eat here with some friends and had high hopes but they quickly dissipated. It was pouring and half our table was getting wet so we asked our server if we could turn it a different way. She was very polite and would probably be the only reason I would ever return. The manager came out with a snippy attitude and spoke to us like we were incompetent. A solid 4 Starr surprise! We know this place is not been open for a long, and it has been on our list of restaurants to try. Seeing it has had mostly good ratings, Vanda has been on our list of restaurants to try and while Enroute to a restaurant in EG tonight we saw it was not too busy and stop in and give it a try. And so glad we did! my husband was ready to order the gnocchi and I was going to order the Gorgonzola and mushroom pasta dish, until our server McKenzie, I think was her name, mentioned the specials. And he decided to go with the special lobster and shrimp special pasta of the night not sure exactly what it was called but it was fantastic! Very light but layers of flavor and fresh lobster and two large jumbo shrimp in the dish. It was not overseas at all which is what we find we dislike about most restaurants that over season wonderful dishes and make them too salty. It was perfectly seasoned and very fresh ingredients. I ordered the gnocchi on the recommendation of our server, and I was definitely not disappointed at all! It was the best know if you we have had in a long time. He sauce it's self was to die for. Full of big chunks of garlic and onion and just the freshest tomato sauce you could ever imagine. Bam! Good job Vanda! We also tried the recommended olive oil cake and it was also very excellent. We ordered the Tiermas Sue as a second dessert because our eyes were too big LOL that was the only slightly disappointing part of the entire evening. While I was expecting your typical tiramisu as a dessert to be brought, it was more of a putting of sorts and a small jar that you definitely had to use a spoon to eat. Other than the Tara Massoud being different than what was expected and not exactly my text your profile liking, everything else was great. We've been fans of Vanda since it opened and recommended it to so many people, but something has changed. They've gotten so popular that it seems they care more about profit than guests. We were at the bar last week and had a great meal. paid our bill and left a 30% tip. We were finishing up and chatting when the bartender came over and said other people were waiting for our spot and we had to go. When I was leaving there was only one couple who looked to be waiting and they already had drinks. I get that if you sit at a table there's a 90 minute limit, but I've never in my life been asked to give up a seat at the bar due to a time limit. I believe I have found my new neighborhood spot. I was totally prepared not to like this place. I have a favorite Italian eatery, two or three of them if I'm honest, I didn't need another. And to my thinking, Rhode Island doesn't either, we have so very many good choices. But friends of ours raved about this little restaurant, and so we had to give it a go. Go it did. Filled in fairly tight on a Friday evening, full in the parking lot as well, we waited just a little bit without a reservation and got a pair of seats at the bar. There are eight seats or so for bar service, and they offer the full menu. The cocktail list changes seasonally, and being there on the first night of the new menu there were plenty of good options. I opted for wine instead from a small list that had some nice Italian wine to choose from. The food was superb. The Gnocchi Alla Sorrentina was beautiful, fresh and soft, roasted in a clay dish with pomodoro tomato, thick and smooth with pockets of fresh mozzarella melted throughout. The appetizer sized serving, a pair of meatballs and the fresh baked crusty bread, very nice as well. Tasty sauce, not too sweet, fresh basil and creamy ricotta. Our server at the bar was superb as well. Really nice night out. You get an A. read more

Solid 4.5 stars! My husband said "I'd go back here for anything." We showed up early with 3 small children and four adults. The space is intimate yet wide open with a bar and great plants and holiday decorations. The staff was super accommodating and patient with the children and they brought out paper and crayons for the kids. Next, they brought us their homemade bread and garlicky olive oil. The bread arrives in a cute brown paper bag with its edges rolled down. Then, our apps arrived - meatballs, eggplant, calamari, and the absolute star -- the homemade ricotta, fruit jam and extra virgin olive oil with little bread crisps. The kids received bowls of buttered fusilli at the same time as our apps, which was well planned. The kids were still working on their pasta as we finished our apps and the entrees arrived in a perfect cadence. I had the hand-cut fettuccine bolognese, my husband ate the stuffed trout special and our friends each ordered the breaded veal cutlet. The fettuccine was perfect and wasn't overloaded with sauce. We ordered dessert- three tiramisu and one olive cake. The owner said the olive oil cake was his mother, Vanda's, recipe and it did not disappoint. Citrus olive oil cake with cranberry compote and ice cream. One of the best olive oil cake's I've ever had. It was a lovely meal and other people in the restaurant seemed happy, too. We are very excited to see Vanda serves Bucatini Amatriciana. This is my SO's favorite pasta / sauce and the fact that they make it with guanciale made it a 'must try'. As soon as I told him about this restaurant he wanted to go. We took a chance and arrived on a week night without a reservation. The place was packed! If you are thinking of going, be sure you make a reservation, even on a week night. The hostess offered us the last two seats at the bar which we were happy to take. The bartender introduced herself, put down cocktail napkins and asked us what we would like to drink. I ordered a negroni and my SO got himself a Peroni beer served on tap. The negroni is well made and served in an appropriate glass. (I enjoyed the taste of this one much more than another I recently had, in a more trendy bar, that served it inappropriately, in a martini glass.) The Peroni is 'just as I remember' for my SO. Menu's were brought out and the specials recited in detail. While talking with the waitress about Amatriciana she asked where we get our guanciale and gave us a tip on where to source it locally. Thanks! She also let us know the fettuccine, gnocchi, agnolotti and one other pasta (sorry I forgot which) are all house made. They imported the Bucatini from Italy as it can not be locally sourced. After placing our order, a paper sack of house made focaccia and a small bowl of olive oil were brought out. We have seen this style of serving bread in Italy, and it always confused me a bit, but it really is an authentic Italian experience. Two styles of focaccia were in the bag, one plain and the other salty with seeds. Both were very tasty and moist. We shared a Stuffed Cabbage antipasti with beef and arborio rice, served in a fontina cheese sauce, topped with a bit of house tomato sauce and fresh basil. It is served in three small appetizer sized portions and is very tasty. I was pleased to find the cabbage had more crispness to it than I expected. Not over cooked, it held it's shape. The beef and rice mixture is very tasty, the fontina sauce is luscious (we dipped our bread in it too), the fresh basil and tomato sauce compliment the cheese nicely. All together a very enjoyable dish. I ordered the Minestra from the verdure section of the menu as my entree. This is similar to 'peasant soup' you can find in most European cultures. A hearty piece of bread is served in a bowl, and the white bean and vegetable soup poured over the bread at table. This soup is so nice. The greens are tender crisp, the Calabrian chili adds just the right amount of heat and spice. I would totally order this dish again. It was tasty and filling. The bucatini pasta was cooked perfectly al dente and the Amatriciana sauce had the salty taste my SO remembered, although not as spicy as at his favorite Roman restaurant in Milan. He asked for a bit more pecorino and some hot pepper flakes and now it was perfetto! Next time we'll try to ask the chef to prepare it 'spicy'! It is common in Italy to order all the courses when going out to dinner. I have often wondered how people so thin can put away so much food! The appetizer portion sizes here allow you to sample more courses without exploding, although the pasta serving was quite enough for two to share (as we saw other tables doing) and my vegetable selection filled me to the gills. I definitely want to return to try more dishes. My SO and I both ordered an Amaro Montenegro; an Italian after dinner liqueur with a sweet start and bitter finish. There is another Amaro that tastes like anise if you prefer the licorice taste and of course there is always the lovely, sweet Amaretto or more tart Limoncello. I was determined to try the tiramisu no matter how stuffed I was. The presentation, served in a jar, is not uncommon in Italy and I have seen this in several locations during our travels. What I thought, and expected, was sprinkled on top was not cocoa, but cinnamon. This makes me sad. In all the lovely tiramisu's I have consumed in Italy, I never came across anything other than cocoa and espresso flavors. Their creamy layer seems thinner than the traditional mascarpone cheese mixture and instead of being layered cheese/cake/cheese/cake etc, it was completely cheese with one layer of cake at the bottom soaked in what I think is coffee liqueur. The thin cream layer explains why it is served in a jar. It would never hold up as a slice. All together I am happy with our experience at Vanda. Our bartender / waitress was very friendly, not to mention busy with a bar full of dining guests besides making drinks for every other guest in a full house. The decor is reminiscent of an Italian trattoria, although the food is more in the style of a ristorante. Although the 'tables for two' by both the kitchen and bathroom as too small, the food quality and the presentation are good and people have taken notice. read more

2.5 stars. I find the interior too cramped to enjoy dining there. The food we have had in prior visits had been good (4 stars) so I thought of ordering something to take out tomorrow until I saw their health code violations listed on Yelp (1 star). I don't want food from any restaurant with cleanliness health code violations- never mind one where dinner for two is $150 plus. The owner should fix that immediately! Also, the seating with views of the bathrooms has to go. The owner should redo the entrance so that it is near the fish market and put the host/ess near the bathrooms- not your guests. I would never sit there, and I don't see how anyone would. You can actually see the people seated 2 feet away from the porcelain when you drive by at night! While the building (which formerly housed a pharmacy) has physical limitations, the interior space is not being used optimally. A consultation with a good designer would help. Last night my fiancé had the fettuccini bolognese and the pasta was super fresh with the perfect chew, and I had the pork chop with polenta and brussels sprouts. Had a Saturday night girls night here! Had an 830 reservation and was sat immediately. The restaurant is very small, but the decor and vibes were great. Started out with an Apperal spritz and for appetizers, the fresh rosemary bread and the charcuterie board. The bread came with a seasonal butter, olive oil, and garlic spread. All there were amazing! Also, everything on the charcuterie board was an absolute hit. We tried the fusilli with braised duck and caramelized onion, and the Cacio e Pepe with burrata. Both were great and would highly recommend. Even though we were stuffed, we ended the night with an espresso martini, and tried the flourless chocolate cake and the tiramisu. First time here and we were impressed! From start to finish our meal was great. Get the focaccia to start. We did and it did not disappoint. I got the bolognese and husband got the peppercorn crusted sirloin. Both delicious. Pasta portions are smaller so not shareable but the perfect amount for one person. The food here is outstanding!! We ordered the rigatoni with meatballs, red sauce was heavenly and the meatballs tender. The gnocchi , cooked perfectly not too mushy like many places I have tried. The last entree was the grilled chicken panini, focaccia bread to die for! For dessert we had the olive oil cake which is a must have! There were so many flavors but they are intertwined nicely!
