The first time I reviewed this place, I focused on the broken website. Well, I have gone to this place for over 8 years now, more than a dozen times. It was acquired by a new owner about a year or so ago, but nothing has changed significantly, which is good. I love this place. It's my go-to, showcase restaurant for small company. It has a cozy yet classy vibe. There's linen on the table, and the service is spot on. It is not pretentious but elegant enough. I enjoy the vibe. When I am stumped about where to take a guest or guests, I never go wrong with this place--it's so close to me as well. It is one of Warwick's best-kept secrets. First, their dinner-for-two with a bottle of wine lives on, though I no longer enjoy the revamped menu, and the price has gone up. It's just better for me to order off the regular menu now. For starters, they have warm bread, roasted garlic that is so soft and moist to spread on the bread, olive oil, vinaigrette, and parmesan to par if you fancy. Their dishes are filling, and the dessert choices are ample. As a rule, I do not eat dessert after a meal, but here, that rule is kaput. So worth it. They also always give you complimentary limoncello shots. On my most recent visit, we ordered the Mediterranean Calamari for starters, the generous Seafood Pescatore, Pan Seared Black Bass, enjoyed with Meiomi Pinot Noir, and for dessert, something special that I cannot recall. Still, I knew it had caramel and toffee. Just go already. I promise you will not regret it. read more

Our party of five had dinner here for Mother's Day! The atmosphere in the restaurant is cozy and comfortable. They have a small parking lot but offer valet. We received our food and drinks quickly and our waitress was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious, I had the filet mignon, calamari, and chocolate lava cake! My son had the sea bass and my husband had the chicken Portofino. The stuffed mushrooms appetizer were tasty but small. We also all loved the warm bread with roasted garlic and oil. Atmosphere is nice, service was great, entrees were ok. Bread with warm garlic oil is good, but please put the microwave back in the kitchen where it belongs. Nobody likes seeing & hearing their food being popped into a microwave. The veal was tasty but a little tough as was the steak. The cordials at the end of the meal are a nice touch. Hosted my daughter's baptism there and had the whole restaurant to ourselves. Food was excellent. Service was attentive. Everyone loved the espresso martinis. I think the whole room ordered one! The decor was great with setups for a card table and cake table. No fee for cake cutting. Ben and his staff were great during the whole planning process and were quick with email replies. A big thank you to Ben for a wonderful Baby Shower experience this past weekend! We had the whole restaurant to ourselves for 32 guests and were able to get in there and add our baby theme on top of their already beautiful decor. Just returned from an early dinner at Elizabeth's. Had only been once before many years ago, we received a gift card last Christmas so we thought we'd give it a try tonight. Atmosphere is very warm and welcoming. Kim was our server and was very attentive and personable. We ordered wines to start; I had the Gooseneck Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc and hubby ordered a moscato; generous pours. The warm bread was delicious and an added touch is the warm roasted garlic they serve along with oil for dipping. (I could have made a meal in that and the wine!) We passed on appetizers as dinner portions are usually plenty for us. I had the chicken Marsala served with mashed potato and green beans and my husband ordered the chicken parm with angel hair pasta. Each meal I believe was $26. Portions were very generous and we each took 1/2 our meals home to enjoy tomorrow! An added touch/surprise to us was a complimentary limoncello at the end of our meal! We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 15 at Elizabeth's Portofino with our most cherished family members. Planned by our two daughters and their husbands, the evening was perfect, the wait staff was attentive and the food was so delicious that our out-of-towner guests insisted they would dine there again. The veal dishes were extraordinary (Marsala and Parmesan), chicken (Marsala and Parmesan) brought raves, steak Oscar was out of this world and the lasagna was as a good as Nonno makes. I am writing this review weeks after visiting this establishment (not my norm, tis the season), but I still remember how delicious the meal was. I had the chicken piccata special and pictured is lobster ravioli as well as some of their signature pasta dishes. I enjoyed the Oreo crème brûlée for dessert. We went here the first time drawn to the fact that they served complimentary roasted garlic! It was small but full of cloves! (I would hope that they served two if we went with another couple! ) It was yummy along with the olive oil they served. We both got the sole franchise special which was delicious! Everything was excellent. We received a gift certificate for Dinner for Two style and we were very impressed with the service, food and cozy atmosphere. The outside is so very much low key, hiding what is inside. It has white tablecloths and the place settings are already set out for you. We had the chicken Marsala and it was perfect. Unfortunately, this place just isn't great. I understand they are under new ownership since January 2025, and I never visited before the change, so my review is based on just one visit. The Ambience: It's.. interesting! Feels a bit sterile inside with the all white booths, chairs, and linens, while somehow also being very tacky with some design choices.. like the wall of clocks. The Food: Unfortunately, this was the worst part of the experience. We ordered the clams casino, in which the filling was stodgy and lacking salt (something I found to be a common theme throughout the evening). The beef carpaccio was surprisingly delightful, but not difficult to execute. The roasted garlic is a nice touch, but the presentation is not practical. Also, the bread was doughy in the middle. This is likely a result of the quick microwave treatment it gets before being served. (I know this because the microwave is in clear sight in the dining room... at least hide it in the kitchen!) For dinner, the portions were measly. Nothing was really hot when it arrived, and it all seemed like it was cooked hours earlier and reheated to order. This is typically fine for items like sauces, and your basic mise, but proteins need to be cooked to order & clearly the cod we ordered was not. The eggplant rolatini was mediocre and the best thing was probably the ceasar salad. Lastly, the service. Our waiter was kind but slightly overbearing, trying to push additional items, likely because the place was nearly empty on a Friday night. I really hope the new ownership can make some changes to their current decision making. Just a few tweaks will make a major difference. Bottom line: If you're wanting Italian in Rhode Island, go to Cranston. read more

I used to frequent Elizabeth's Portofino when I lived in RI and loved it. My son and his wife decided to have their wedding reception at Portofino because they too had many great dates here and the place is so special! Then we learned that the restaurant was being sold. Our panic was unwarranted as Ben came through with flying colors!!! The event was better than we could've even dreamed. The venue was perfect for a small intimate wedding reception. Ben was a joy to work with. The food was phenomenal. Our guests raved about everything, especially the filet mignon, which was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. The service was superb. Jeremy was fantastic! Even the bus boys, Sam and Zach (I believe that was his name) were on point. I work in HR and now I know why it's so difficult to find good staff. They all work at Portofino! In addition, the value for the price is almost unimaginable. Best of luck to the new owners with the continued success of such a great and iconic restaurant. This places is a hidden gem in Warwick. It doesn't look like much from the outside but inside it's very beautiful. It's elegant but not flashy. It's also small but by no means does it feel that way. They've spaced it all well. I was very pregnant and didn't feel like a whale walking around (very important for me, lol). The food! Omg it was so good. It was fresh light and tasty! They serve warm bread with roasted garlic and oil if you wish. The garlic they keep warm open an open flame. We both did a 3 course meal. I started with a cesear salad and my husband the special, chicken soup. Both very good. The soup was simple yet flavorful. For our entrees my husband did a chicken parm and I did a veal portifino. This is first chicken parm that my husband's had that he made a comment about being full before eating the pasta. And the sauce he approved (as an Italian male, he judges every Italian place by their gravy, and they past). We ended with a dessert special of vanilla creme brulee. Yum!! It was all amazing. Nothing felt overwhliming heavy or thick. And it was all fresh. Oh we can't forget about the bar and drinks. Well priced and fabulous! I went out and had a glass of red wine. It was an Italian wine but priced only at $6 a glass which I felt was good. They make their own lemoncello (which they give complimentary) that they make a martini with. My husband ordered this, it was out of this world! With dessert my husband ordered a Scillian coffee (black coffee with a vanilla liquor). He seem to quite enjoy it. Lastly, id like to just shout out to their staff. They were all very kind and responsive yet not annoying. While we were there we also overhead them provide a complimentary dessert for a couple celebrating a special occasion. This was so sweet. They even wrapped it go because they were too full. I highly recommend this place. The pricing was average for a nice dinner out. The entrees were 15-25 (a few market priced). read more

Incredible fine little spot. With Rhode Island flooded with specialty Italian nooks, this was a super find. Their prices were very good since they weren't located in the high rent district of Providence. The waitress was amazing - she asked open ended questions and wasn't hesitant about making recommendations based on our answers. We got their incredibly layered and loaded lasagna - ate half. Elizabeth's is quite close to us, yet we never think to go there. The first time, it was a bit outdated. I am happy to say that has changed; it's beautiful inside, very trendy and subtly elegant. The menu is varied and nicely priced. My beans and greens appetizer was delicious! I can't wait to eat my leftovers for lunch. Baked scrod with rice and veg turned out to be scrod with mashed and green beans. No explanation for why the change, nor was our waiter aware. The scrod and mashed were luke warm at best, disappointing. The beans were well seasoned and hot. To me there seems to be a timing issue in the kitchen. Warmed plates would probably be helpful. Excellent Italian cuisine. Love supporting local business who have stood the test of time. Speaks volumes for their quality and ability to treat customers well. I recommend the veal parmigiana with pasta. The sauce has a lovely homemade taste and it's not overbearing with too many herbs and spices. Freshly made dishes to order. Great pasta ! Lured to this restaurant due to its stellar OpenTable rating, I perhaps was expecting different food than offered on the relatively straightforward menu pervaded by pasta with meat sauces that was more "red sauce"-style Italian-American than purely Italian. That said, you can still serve this type of fare and do it "the right way" - incorporating the slow-cooking methods of old Europe to these mid-20th-century "second and third generation" Italian dishes.*** (*** As many of you savvy readers are aware, dishes like "Spaghetti and Meatballs" that are offered on Portofino's menu were invented in America in the early 20th century as a way of providing recipes for which to sell imported canned tomatoes to Italian immigrants. Pasta has been an American comfort food for almost a century, while its treatment on this side of the Atlantic has evolved into an offshot Italian-ish cuisine, with its own unique flavor combinations and vocabulary, overcoming what originally came over from Europe in winning the common American palate.) I started with "Chef Angelo's Tuscan Beans & Greens," which contained cannellini beans sautéed with garlic and prosciutto, and served with grilled crostini. This is straight-up "grandma food," and I mean that in a good way. A liberal amount of garlic was used, and the prosciutto was strong in this dish, its flavor extracted during cooking and seeping into the beans and greens, which seemingly consisted of spinach, rabe, and chard. I liked this dish better than my entrée, even if I felt $10 was a bit spendy for such a simple appetizer with unexotic ingredients. Next, I ordered the "Veal Portofino," ($24) which my waitress informed me was the restaurant's signature dish. I was skeptical, as I read the description of veal rolled with prosciutto, spinach, tomato and provolone, topped with a mushroom tomato demi-glace. The description made it sounds a bit overengineered and perhaps even gloppy. Unfortunately, my instincts were correct - this just wasn't my "style" of entrée. The dry veal was certainly overcooked (no one asked me what temperature to cook the veal to), and I couldn't understand what the chef wanted to be on my fork with the meat: The chunks of tomatoes? The mushrooms? The cheese? Because I couldn't pick up everything at once. The flavors were mostly alright, but this dish had too much going on and could have benefited from some editing. I finished my meal by ordering the "Tiramisu." ($7) The kitchen uses a classic recipe, soaking savoiardi in espresso, then layering on mascarpone cheese, coffee liqueur, and cocoa powder. No complaints here. Service was efficient and professional but a bit cold on the frigid Wednesday night in January that I dined here solo in a mostly empty dining room. I normally wouldn't mention, and I can't put my finger on why, but my waitress left me feeling a bit uneasy and perhaps unwelcome. A complimentary shot of homemade limoncello was provided at the end of my meal, which was a nice touch. This wonderful send-off never gets old, and one of the many pleasant touches that makes my dining experiences more enjoyable at family-run Italian-American restaurants around Rhode Island like Portofino's. If I'm ever back in Providence, RI, this will be my first stop for supper. We enjoyed such a wonderful experience from beginning to end. The service was excellent, our waiter, Justin, knew the menu, knew the specials without having to refer to any notes, and was very helpful with suggestions and recommendations. We enjoyed an appetizer of carpaccio and a chopped salad. My husband had veal and I enjoyed one of the specials, Fruitti de Mar. Both selections were prepared beautifully.
