A few did a cursory inspection, and gave us a quote. Vanguard was the only company that did a thorough inspection, including going into our attic. They also concluded that our outdoor shed could be treated, while others told us it had to be replaced. From the initial inspection, we felt Vanguard was the most honest, thorough, and experienced. Their quote was also the lowest. Jim, who did the inspection, gave us a detailed explanation of his findings. He recommended a local treatment for the infestation areas discovered and preventative treatment for our attic space. It has been very easy to work with the company through scheduling, inspection, and the actual job. Gabriel and a team came punctually on the date set and completed all treatments within a couple of hours. Gabriel walked us through what was done and explained the warranty process for subsequent inspections. We experienced minor termite issue in our attic. Vanguard was the second company that came out and performed detailed inspection including marking areas where the termites are. Of all the companies, they are the MOST detailed oriented. They are also the MOST professional as they NEVER rushed us into deciding what to do. They NEVER upsell us into fumigating as well. Shane the Vanguard inspector put us at ease, he explained everything in detail, which made us feel relieved because he knew it was stressful for us knowing we have a 19 months old daughter. Vanguard is a company worth hiring! Jim, the inspector, was professional, responsive and patient throughout the inspection and addressed all of my questions and concerns. There was no judgment in any of his responses. It is helpful to have someone who empathizes with the situation, but also doesn't insincerely try to sell you something they can't stand by. He is also willing to come out to help me put touch up paint and smooth out the areas that had drilling. The applicators who came out to do the work were also patient and explained everything they were going to do and also walked me through the site afterwards to show me everything that was done. It was important that they did their due diligence because the termite that was the cause ended up being a different kind and had I gone with fumigation, would not have addressed the issue. The local treatment and preventative that they did offer addressed both types of termites and the warranty was 5 years. This made a huge difference in the decision. What would have made this a 5 star review is that I did find the area under an attic that had a lot of dust and dirt. Unfortunately, they forgot to vacuum afterwards. The piece covering the attic and showing was also dirty. It would have been great if that was quickly wiped down and area vacuumed. They did leave all of the other places generally clean. Even though the review is 4-star, I would not hesitate to hire or recommend this company! i had Vanguard come out to look at what I thought were subterannean termites in my garage. I had previously another company on the peninsula look at it and they quoted me $1300. Well, I am glad I got Vanguard to give me a second opinion. They said they were not termites, but ants! Subterannean termites are bigger. Vanguard saved me $1300. Tl;dr - CEO calls up clients to bully client on price mistake, repeatedly throws employee under the bus in a repugnant way. Vanguard gave us a quote over a year ago so I called them out to inspect for an updated quote on fumigation for termites and wood boring beetles as the old quote had expired. The inspector, John, apparently a new hire, was extremely courteous, informative, and a joy to be around, which is why what happened later left such a sour taste in my mouth. He provided a quote for $4526 for fumigation of one structure. After attempting to lock in the quote, I received a phone call from the CEO of Vanguard (George, I believe) at 8:30AM telling me that the quote was "a typo" and that they would lose money at that price and they could not provide service at that price point. The new quote was for $5800. I replied that I felt this was a scummy practice, at which point the CEO started yelling and talking over me for the remainder of the call. The CEO threw his employee under the bus repeatedly and said they would honor the original quote by trying to get "the inspector to cover the difference." Setting aside the fact that this CEO is singling out an employee to cover his business' operating costs, this is a failure of training on the company's part. Any reasonable CEO would say at this point, "we've made a mistake and we'll split the difference with you," or at a minimum, apologize. Vanguard does not have a reasonable CEO. The CEO further stated that I "was being recorded" in a threatening voice. I asked why he would mention that, and why he was talking over me constantly. He replied, "Bro, I'll talk when I want." He also mentioned how many millions he does in business and why a job like this was inconsequential for his bottom line. All in all, pretty repulsive stuff to hear from a CEO. He then had the inspector call me directly to profusely apologize, rather than apologize himself. Of course John, the inspector, was courteous as always, but it felt really gross for a CEO to make his employee call a client to grovel for forgiveness for the CEO's blatant unprofessionalism. The worst part is, I feel like he may punish John for this, who was the only person I've interacted with from this company doing a decent job in the first place. All in all, a very negative experience (except the inspector, John). I would avoid putting money in this CEO's pocket. read more

His customer care made a stressful situation much more manageable. On the day of fumigation, I double-checked about our shed being included in the treatment. John had measured the shed during his inspection, but there seemed to be a communication mix-up with the fumigation company Vanguard subcontracted for the actual fumigation work. Instead of pointing fingers or making excuses, Vanguard sorted it out immediately and made sure the shed was properly tented and fumigated before the day's end.
