Carlos and team not only found an entry point that was missed by a much larger firm that had "rodent-proofed" my house - they also corrected a bunch of shoddy work left by the other company. Where the other company used cheap spray foam to block small entrances, Carlos used mortar. Mortar! These guys are FREAKING NINJAS! When I started this position in Los Altos Hills, I quickly heard about how there were rats chewing on their Range Rover engine wiring and how they had paid for repairs twice already before asking me to take it in for the 3rd time. I thought... Hmm, If the rats are THIS ballsy, there must be more out there. So, I came to Yelp to see who I should trust to get this under control. "Peninsula Rodent Control"... seemed obvious enough, so I called. Carlos said they could swing by and take a look. Carlos came by with Francisco and I greeted them at the front door. They said they would take a walk around and go on the roof and under the house to assess the job. In under 30 minutes he texted me to come outside. One night at 3:00 am my wife woke me and said there was something in the bathroom. Something big. After a half-hour of cowardice I was able to confirm the thing was under the house, telegraphing its activities through the bathtub and pipes. I contacted Carlos based upon his Yelp reviews and also reviews from our community forum. And from another reviewer's comments I was able to solve a puzzle that I thought was unrelated: the two weeks of itching and bites I had been suffering from was probably due to rat mites! Carlos was responsive and even though he was busy was able to move up the scheduled times for both our inspection and the actual work. On the day of the inspection, he showed up on time and led me around the outside of the house, exposing areas the rats were able to access and revealing their fresh droppings. He clearly explained the actions he was going to take and also shared his experiences concerning mites. As others note here, the solution to rat mites is to get rid of the rats, and the mites will follow. After providing the initial inspection and quote, he returned a couple days later and did the work, which involved mortaring the holes he discovered and putting down wire mesh, and replacing the screens in the vent openings. He laid down traps for the rats that might have remained in the crawlspace and inspected our attic as well. And I should note that he and Francisco both wore booties when they came in the house. For a couple nights we had to listen to the desperate scratches of the trapped rats, and then all was quiet. I texted Carlos this morning, after the holiday weekend, to see if he was coming by to check/empty the traps. He was already on his way. He sent me photos of the six females he was able to trap. Full disclosure: I am a renter and so I didn't have to pay the bill, my landlord did. But if you look at the cost from an hourly rate point of view, you're missing the point. You're paying for experience--someone who can tell how the critters are getting in and can effectively fix the situation. Take it from me: once you've had rat mites in your house, you want someone who can take care of it the right way. read more

Our rodent problem is extremely difficult to address because it is in a small crawl space area that is not humanly accessible. After 4 months working with different rodent proofing companies to no avail, Carlos has given me hope today. Carlos is very resourceful, knowledgeable and came up with potential solutions that other professionals have not thought of. I think if you have a difficult rodent problem, Carlos would be your best bet. Update 2/1/18: After Carlos & Francisco sealed 3 drain pipes and 1 crack below our deck, we stop hearing gnawing noises at night for 9 days. Unfortunately, the noises came back. However, it seems to be a different rat, the noise is much softer and extremely infrequent (unlike before). My crawl space has a small area not accessible by humans, so I might have to consider cutting open a small part of concrete foundation to access the inaccessible area. The rat might be entering from underground into the inaccessible area via a sewer pipe, in which case no amount of rodent proofing will work unless the inaccessible area is opened up. I still think Carlos is excellent at rodent proofing despite the outcome. Update 3/30/2018: We hired a contractor to cut through a concrete foundation wall to access the previously inaccessible crawl space area. Unfortunately we discovered there is a concrete slab that only allows 8.5" clearance under the joists. It is extremely difficult to crawl into such a tight space, but Francisco was willing, and managed to do it. It was an amazing effort. Carlos and Francisco are both extremely dedicated and will do everything possible to help you. We suspect the rat is coming through an underground sewer pipe that was uncapped, but unfortunately we were not able to cap it because the end of the pipe is located in another inaccessible area. That means once again we will need to bring a concrete contractor back to saw another opening or figure out if the sewer pipe is abandoned, and whether it can be cut and capped. The struggle continues, but my husband and I really want to give Carlos and Francisco props for always giving their 100% effort to help. They are the best! Update 4/18/2018: My husband and I are so thankful to Carlos and Francisco for solving our rodent issue. They were able to determine definitively the rodent is coming up from an uncapped abandoned sewer pipe in the crawl space. Now the pipe has been securely capped, and what a relief I must say. Our difficult rodent issue would not have been solved without Carlos and Francisco's ingenuity and expert skills. We have a very tight space and wasn't even sure if anyone can enter the area so we're extremely grateful and appreciative that Peninsula Rodent Control was able to help us. I highly recommend them. If you have a problem with rodents, Carlos is your man. I called him frantically on New Year's Eve and he and his crew came out early Jan. 2 and found several problem areas that they sealed up. I'd had issues several times before, but Peninsula Rodent Control is the first company I've dealt with that was thorough in their inspection. They suspected there was a problem under my deck and after loosening a few boards they discovered a hole the size of a grapefruit into my crawl space. Every spot was sealed. Our home in Portola Valley is under constant attack by nature, and rodents appear every 2-3 years even though we have a resident owl that lives very close to their roof hole. We've called Carlos and his crew on prior occasions over the years, and they've been very responsive, arriving within hours or a day. They walk the house from foundation perimeter to roof and find the hole, or holes this last instance very quickly. They installed a 1-way to allow the rodent to exit within several days. They then returned to remove the exit and patch the holes with concrete, in this instance. They also concrete sealed a just-started rodent hole under the foundation. Carlos, has been an angel. I have never had an inside rodent problem until I moved to Emerald Hils in Redwood City. This is the first year I have ever had rats, and I called Peninsula Rodent Control to help me eliminate them. It has been tough, but Carlos has been with me all the way. I am really pleased with the services of Peninsula Rodent Control. Carlos already came highly recommended by a friend, however he still exceeded my expectations. I called him one morning and he returned my phone call within a couple of hours saying that he was in the area and could come that same day. He confirmed that we had rats in the attic and possibly in the crawlspace. He identified all the holes where rats had access to the house structure (by getting into the crawlspace, on the roof, and attic) and gave me a detailed description of how he was going to solve our problem. I called a few other companies but, although Carlos said he was busy for the next 5 days, I decided to hire him based on his knowledge. I was not disappointed. I asked him to try to come within 2 days to at least start the job. He didn't promise anything but he said he would try. I was really happy when 2 days later, he called me early in the day, and said he was coming. He managed to finish the whole job that same day, putting more than 5 hours between him and his efficient assistant, Francisco.
