I'd give it a 2.5. Made reservation and was sat inside next to an open door. It was SO cold and we were told it could not be shut. It was actually warmer on the patio with the heaters. Restaurant is beautifully decorated. Our visit did not get off on a great foot. It took more than 30 minutes for our cocktails to arrive. Our salad came out and was eaten before we got drinks. I did alert our server two times and was told the bar was backed up. A manager came and offered us a drink to share it a dessert, on the house, which was nice. The beer salad was tasty-wish it had a bit more dressing. Next, we stared the pork chop and the mushroom pizza. The pizza was yummy, as was the pork, but as undercooked in spots. I like a medium chop, but this was rare in places. The dessert offered was the sticky toffee, which was rich and warm, but it took more than 20 minutes to come out! I would not say the price of the food and drinks was worth the visit.

What a beautiful restaurant. Excellent food & service for Sunday brunch. Small brunch menu but our party of 6 adults & 3 children enjoyed all items ordered. The kids meals are huge. The kids hamburger is adult sized & has a huge portion of fries. The seasonal burrata salad was delicious with ripe persimmons & I added chicken. The avocado toast with salmon was yummy as well as dulce de leche french toast. The jalapeño Caesar salad was very large & good too. Side of fries were very large easily shared by 2-3 people. They provided a complimentary house made sorbet for the birthday girl. Loved it & we will be back.

We started with the cornbread.Unique and amazing . I've never had skillet cornbread quite like this. It had the texture or density of flan- very dense. This is a definite item you must order -absolutely delicious. The green goddess (don't worry its a creamy avo dressing) salad with beets, was very good. We split the denver waygu steak which was cooked perfectly ( medium rare +) and came with some charred broccolini and whole fingering potatoes. Honestly they could have done something a little more creative with the potatoes Diana was our waitress and was great- she stayed on top of everything, bringing us a new dish set and silverware before our main entree and was very promot with our requests. If there was weak spot it was the martini - it was a-little weak but the luz verde was perfect if you like mescal and a drink thats not too sweet. Also the chimichurri wasn't good but the Vaquera butter is the way you go on the steak. Chimichurri should use fresh herbs and you can tell they are fresh by their color. La Vaquera is on the pricey side but he ambiance and service make it worth a visit. The cocktails were absolutely delicious, can't wait to try more of them. Let's talk about the food: -Little gem wedge (lardons, red onion, spiced walnuts, point reyes blue cheese dressing): The best part of the salad were the bacon lardons. They melted in the mouth and were very savory. The dressing didn't taste much like blue cheese and it was runny. The lettuce had some graininess that was had to describe, felt like dirt so maybe the lettuce was not well washed. -6 oz Nebraska gold filet mignon (herb roasted marble potatoes, broccolini, beef deli sauce): I ordered my steak medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. It had a nice crust and it was well seasoned. The beef Demi sauce was finger licking good. The potatoes and broccolini it was served with were disappointing. There was not much flavor to be found. -14 oz. Aurora Farms Ribeye: Well cooked and seasoned. The marbling was beautiful. The bits of fat melted in the mouth. Again, the sides were a let down. -Sticky Toffee Pudding (date cake, butterscotch and whipped crema): Sickeningly sweet. The crema cuts the sweetness. Definitely worth sharing as it would be too much for one person.

We came here to celebrate our anniversary. We wanted to try a new place and the hubs wanted steak. OpenTable showed good reviews and the ability to make a rezzy. We were seated right away and our waitress Diana was fabulous. We sat outside and love the vibe of the place. The food was really good and so were the drinks. The only negative is that it took 1.25 hours from when we sat to get our entrees. We took our time looking at the menu and enjoying our drinks and appetizers and salads during that time but the table next to us that got seated after us got their entree 15 to 20 minutes before we got ours. I was finally about to say something to the staff but they must have noticed and told us that our ticket was up next. Despite this longer than expected wait, we'd return b/c that octopus and filet were so good. Cherry tomato Salad 9/10 This salad really surprised me. At first, I thought, why is there tomatoes and berries together? Seems like an odd combination. It actually works together quite well though. The tomatoes almost taste and appear to be more like grapes lol I really liked the fresh cheese! It was kind of like a mousse. The blackberries were very fresh. The vinaigrette topped it off and brought everything together. I enjoyed the spiced nuts on top, because it gave a different texture. Steak Tartare 10/10 My husband absolutely loved this!! This was his favorite of all time. He wouldn't stop raving about the steak tartare and how good the meat was. He also loved the flavors. The meat is from black hawk farms American wagyu beef. It's no wonder he loved it so much lol It is the good stuff. It was paired with pickled red onion, pumpkin seeds, and egg yolk jam. That steak tartare stole my husband's heart lol Service was good. They were friendly and offered up some really good food. That's a win in my book.

Had this place bookmarked since they first opened, and our party of 4 finally made our way here! Casual and laid back atmosphere, with a charming Western/Cali-country vibe, which I love. Plenty of seating at the bar, as well as, ample of tables and chairs inside and out on their patio. I opted for standard seating when I made the rez and got a nice comfortable booth inside. Drinks: We did bring our own bottle to enjoy with our steaks ($35 corkage), but the ladies did get a cocktail before our dine. Why not, right? LOL. - The Boss Mare (perfect with the lemon zest and candied ginger garnish) - Vaquera Vesper (which my sister said was refreshing) Starters: - Santa Maria Spiced Chicken Wings (enough for 4 ppl, savory good, must get!) - Peach & Burrata (very refreshing) - Grilled Spanish Octopus (super tender and flavorful, must try!) Small Plates: - Organic Herb Roasted Mushrooms (bursting w/ next level umami and we wanted to get another order, definite must try!!!) Entree Cuts: - Bavette Steak x2 (medium rare and perfectly prepared and cut, thank u, chef!) - Denver Steak x1 (medium rare and perfectly prepared and, thank u, chef!) - Heritage 1/2 Chicken x1 (juicy and moist, great flavor on the perfectly charred skin, tasted just as good the next day as leftovers!) Bryson was our kind server who took care of us that evening. He apologized for not noticing we were seated for quite some time before coming to our table to greet us and take our food and drink order (all good). It was a Saturday evening at prime dinner time, and he was hustling (and a pro) for solo handling his busy section. Will definitely come back again to try their happy hour and lunch menu ! La Vaquera has a nice menu of cocktails and beer with delicious appetizers. Lime-n-cello was phenomenal. House wine was a Cabernet and not too bad. It would have been better chilled. Service was great and friendly. Highly recommend the cornbread and Santa Maria Spiced Chicken wings. Bar outdoor seating is a first come first serve. What an amazing weekend and visit to the Rodeo at River Street in San Juan Capistrano! We started with drinks at Capo where we had a round and then made our way over to La Vaquera for drinks and small bites and ended the night at Finca!

La Vaquera is an absolute gem--a beautifully crafted, farm-to-table restaurant with a charming Western theme, making it the perfect spot for my best friend's birthday celebration. We dressed as cowgirls and cowboys, and the atmosphere was just right for our festive night. I was curious about the name "La Vaquera" and learned that it translates to "The Cowgirl," which felt so fitting. The restaurant also had a distinctly Latino twist, with the dishes reflecting that unique flavor profile. From the thoughtful plating to the exceptional flavors, everything about the meal was delightful. Since our group was fairly large, we had a set menu with the option to select our own starters. A personal touch I really appreciated was that my friend was able to customize the menu with a special quote, a cute detail that made it much more personable that evening. As for the food, we started with two snacks: their cornbread with Oaxacan queso and roasted poblano pepper, and spiced duros served with avocado mousse. The cornbread was solid, but it was the duros that truly stood out. I'd seen these Mexican wheel-like snacks from street vendors, but never had them presonally. I was pleasantly surprised by how they tasted paired with the avocado mousse. It was an unexpected combo, and while I can't fully compare them to the street versions, I definitely enjoyed them. For starters, we had the option of the Cherry Tomato Salad or the Little Gem Wedge. Thankfully, I got to try both. My favorite was hands down the Cherry Tomato Salad! The farm cheese, blackberries, salsa seca (a dry, savory salsa), and fresh basil all worked together beautifully. The blackberries were so large and juicy that our table was debating whether they were real! Haha...This dish was a true winner for me because it was light, balanced, and surprisingly harmonious in flavor, which is something that I can appreciate when combining many flavors together. The Little Gem Wedge, which featured butter lettuce, lardons, dates, spiced walnuts, red onion, and creamy dressing, was also good but felt a bit heavier compared to the Cherry Tomato Salad. The creaminess was a bit much for me, and I preferred the light, refreshing quality of the tomato salad. That said, the lardons were a nice touch and added a savory richness to the dish. For the entrees, we had three proteins to choose from: Whole Charred Chicken, Oak-Grilled Local Bass, and a 22 oz Prime Bone-In Ribeye. Each one a standout in its own right. The charred chicken was smoky and flavorful, though I didn't get a chance to try it with the two sauces that were offered, but I'm sure the sauces were equally delicious! The seabass was plated beautifully atop farro with sugar snap peas, mint, lemon vinaigrette, soft herbs, pickled red onions, and salsa verde. The combination of textures and flavors was lovely, with the moist fish contrasting nicely with the crunchy snap peas and hearty farro. However, it was the least favored of the three dishes at our table, though still delicious. The real star of the evening was the Prime Bone-In Ribeye... Perfectly cooked to a medium-rare, it was everything you'd want in a steak. It was tender, juicy, and well-seasoned... It came with roasted carrots and grilled green beans, and though there was a steak sauce on the side, I didn't need it because the steak was just that good! To finish the meal, we were treated to Sticky Toffee Pudding made with Medjool dates, paired with a surprising dollop of whipped cream that had a slight sour tang. I found out they added a bit of sour cream to the whipped topping (confirmed by one of the serves), which was a bold and interesting choice. I'm a fan of unexpected flavor combos, so I really enjoyed it. I know I'll never experience anything quite like this again, but I'm so glad it happened at La Vaquera. As for service, our server (I believe his name was Darren or Daryl) was a gem. He was attentive, kept our wine glasses full, and made sure the evening went smoothly. My friend had expressed afterwards that he was a little nervous about the service going into the night but was beyond pleased with how everything unfolded thanks to our server and his team. Thank you to La Vaquera and the entire team for a memorable, delicious evening. I'm not sure when I'll have the chance to return to La Vaquera, but I can't wait to do so, especially since I've heard their menu changes seasonally.

Skillet cornbread on the menu drew us in for brunch at Vaquera and did not disappoint! Very tasty, little spicy but sweet with honey, served warm. Plenty split amongst three of us. My friend ordered a seasonal burst's salad that she loved with arugula, oranges, candied walnuts. My friend and I ordered the Japanese Caesar and boy were disappointed! It was romaine lettuce with dressing, like crumbles. The description included tortilla and corn bread croutons, unless they were crumbled, they were missing. We did not ask, we should have. Location is beautiful and our server was very friendly and our food/drinks were served thinly. Definitely will go back!

We were very impressed with the quality of the food. The steak and pork chop were both cooked to perfection, and my son loved his kids steak. The pitcher of Sangria was also a great addition to our meal. We also appreciated the ambiance; the volume was at a comfortable level, making it easy to have a conversation. While the main courses were the star of the show, a few aspects of the experience could be more polished. The primary issues were logistical. Our transition from the bar to our dining table felt disjointed, leaving a moment of confusion as we waited to be seated and properly attended to. Following that, there was a significant wait for our food to arrive from the kitchen. It's crucial to distinguish these coordination and timing issues from the tableside service, however. Our server was a true professional--incredibly attentive, engaging, and wonderfully accommodating to our toddler, which made us feel very welcome. The only other small critique is that while the cooking technique was flawless, a lighter hand with the salt would elevate the dishes from great to truly exceptional.

I came here expecting a brunch menu, but turns out they discontinued brunch last month :( Regardless, Vaquera is a great restaurant with a stunning design. Service was pretty good considering it was prime time brunch hours. I ended up getting their crispy kale and sausage pizza and shared some seasoned fries. The pizza was underwhelming and I'd probably order a different one; the kale was too bitter for my liking and was just alright. The seasoned fries on the other hand were delicious!

La Vaquera is tucked inside the River Street Marketplace like a surprise plot twist you didn't see coming--but immediately appreciate. Western-themed? Yes. Rustic? Absolutely. Comfortable? Shockingly so. You've got bar seating, indoor tables, and outdoor options for those nights when you want ambiance and people-watching with your carbs. The bar deserves its own paragraph (and possibly a standing ovation). Skilled, friendly bartenders sling handcrafted cocktails using artisan spirits and local craft beers, plus a wine list that's small but knows its lane. Pro tip: skip the menu and order my personal invention--a vodka martini with blood orange purée. Bright, smooth, and dangerous in the "I'll just have one more" way. Food-wise, two dishes stole the show. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was old-school perfection--big, cold, snappy shrimp that clearly didn't come here to mess around. And then there's the pizza. They literally built the restaurant around an 11-foot custom oak-wood grill, and it shows. The cheese and fresh basil pie is a minimalist masterpiece: thin, crispy crust with real flavor, perfectly blistered, and balanced enough to make you forget every bad pizza decision you've ever made. The only disappointment was green goddess salad. Just kinda blah with too little dressing and not very cold Bottom line: La Vaquera pulls off the rare combo of cool setting, legit cocktails, and food that delivers without trying too hard. Come for the vibe, stay for the pizza, and leave wondering why blood orange martinis aren't already a thing everywhere..

We will return! My wife and I visited La Vaquera on the second night of their opening. We were impressed. The layout of the reasturant is airy and upbeat. Our server, Josh, did a wonderful job of explaining the menu to us and suggesting various dishes and drinks. The Young Legend with mexcal was excellent - not too sweet or tart. We decided to try several small plates. Our favorite was the crispy brussel sprouts. We also sampled the roasted heirloom beets, the grilled Spanish octopus, and the charro beans. We enjoyed the different spices, but we would not call the dishes spicy, as in hot. Yadira, the general manager, brought out a roasted arrowhead cabbage for us to try. Excellent. Jens, the president, told me about one of their special mexcals, La Vaquera. It is a limited edition beverage. I highly recommend it. Ceaser, a busser, was very attentative to our table. My wife and I are already talking about returning on Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve with other members of our family. Good job La Vaquera! read more

Pros: The decor and vibe is lovely. Gorgeous colors, tasteful and fun. Very nice outdoor seating. Cons: The lunch menu is tiny and uninspiring. No wood grill meat at all. We chose the salad with fried chicken which was basically a bowl of romaine lettuce with lemon vinaigrette. The four pieces of fried chicken was tasty but miniscule. The stone fruit was a couple of slices of apple. I'm pretty sure apple is not stone fruit which was in the description of the dish. And the other ingredients which I cannot even remember were on the bottom of the bowl swimming in vinaigrette. $26 later and I was still hungry. I honestly don't mind the price but give me something delicious and satisfying please. So disappointed. Maybe this place serves a banging dinner but the lunch was not good at all. The service was lackluster and slow. My friends and I felt invisible. None of us were pleased and we will not be back. read more

We went this past weekend. The hostess was very nice and let us know we could sit at the bar, and that it's first come first serve. We sat at the outside portion of the bar. The barback was really nice and greeted us and got us waters. We asked if we could put in our food order with him and he said he wasn't able to. No problem. That's where the service ended. They had one bartender on a busy Saturday afternoon. Two other parties of two sat among us after we had been there about 5 minutes. Another server/bartender came up to the guys next to us and greeted them and got them drinks. Never acknowledging us. The manager comes and helps the guys on the other side of us. Never asking if we needed anything. We had waters in front of us, nothing else. Maybe communicate with your customers or barback and see who has been taken care of. Finally after about 15 minutes, the original bartender returned. We asked to place our drink and food order. He said he would only be taking our drink order now. We placed our drink order. 10 mins later the manager comes and asks if we've been helped. Really?? After completing ignoring us. Anyway, after that we decided to skip eating and went to Capo Leisure House. We had great service there. Most everyone who came in sat at the bar.They need more people working the bar or close half of it so customers know there's not enough staff to accommodate them. Everyone is walking around and wants a drink and some nibbles. This place seems perfect, but the service was terrible. After everything, we were charged for our drinks and the guys next to us, which they did remove after we pointed it out. read more

We had such a great experience at La Vaquera! Our server Kalai was amazing , chill, and on top of everything. We tried a bunch of different dishes: the brick chicken, the bolognese, the jalapeño Caesar salad, the filet surf and turf, and the Denver steak. Everything was honestly really good, but the Denver steak was the highlight. It was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. Had our anniversary dinner here, and when we got to our table there was a card signed by the entire staff wishing us a happy anniversary - amazing personal touch. Our server Diana was very nice and did a great job to make our meal enjoyable. To drink we had the Boss Mare (terrific) and Tommy's Margarita (ok). We started with the cornbread that was good but a bit greasy. We then had the 22 oz Ribeye Steak that came with fingerling potatoes and charred carrots. The steak was cooked perfectly and delicious. I did not like the carrots (left a strange taste like maybe fennel) and the potatoes were pretty good (very salty). I think it would have paired better with their green beans (or a different green) and their other potatoes with the onion crema. It also came with their steak sauce, which was good but given it is a shared plate and it's high cost, I think it should have come with all three of their sauces. Overall nice experience and the service was amazing. I know that I'm being a little hard on this place, but this is a beautiful restaurant and has real potential. Given the high price point, I think the food could use a little tweaking and it could be better. We might come back and try some other options. read more

Visited this restaurant to celebrate my moms birthday and it was a collective 10/10 from our party. Went around 5pm on Sunday and it wasn't crowded so the atmosphere was nice and peaceful. Our server Amanda was so nice and attentive and gave such good suggestions on food. As a table, we shared the skillet cornbread and the grilled Spanish octopus... both were gone pretty quick. The skillet cornbread was still warm and would just melt in your mouth. I'm not a fan of octopus, but the grilled Spanish octopus was so tasty, especially with the Serrano-cilantro dressing. For my entree, I ordered the Jalapeño Caesar with chicken. Caesar salads are my go-to orders and this one is certainly a top contender. The added cornbread croutons just added a whole other flavor and the salad as a whole just was fresh and crispy. Will definitely make the drive to come back to this place! read more

Fantastic steaks and drinks. Be warned you will spend all your money here, but you'll be happy about it. We had the wagyu ny strips which was amazing. Highly recommend their red sangria and Paloma's as well. Service here is always great. We've been for several special occasions and they always take great care of us and send champagne or some free desserts. Also worth noting you can kind of choose your vibe here. Outside is more western feeling like the whole area where as the inside maintains more of a Spanish feeling. read more

I visited La Vaquero last night with a couple of friends. The ambience was nice, and the waitress was very friendly. We started with two appetizers--the octopus and the cornbread--both of which were quite delicious. However, the cocktails were mediocre at best, and the menu felt quite basic for a meat-heavy establishment. Unfortunately, our order didn't get entered into the system; either it was a glitch or a mistake. The manager came over and offered us a Caesar salad to share while we waited, which I thought was rather petty instead of providing us with additional appetizers. When it came time to pay, the receipt included a QR code for splitting the bill, but when we used it, we each ended up being charged the full tip amount. La Vaquera is amazing! I was excited to explore River Street Marketplace and all its charming food spots. La Vaquera immediately caught my eye with its adorable, vibey exterior. The moment you walk in, the atmosphere is inviting, with beautiful green accents and a beautiful bar. We came for lunch, and our server, Zoe, was fantastic - so kind, attentive, and full of great recommendations. I went with the chicken sandwich, which she suggested, and it was the best chicken sandwich I've ever had! It had just the right kick and was packed with flavor (the sauces/condiments are SO tasty). My friend got the chicken salad and loved it too. Also, a small but appreciated detail, but I love when restaurants have fancy water cups - it just adds to the experience! When you walk in, they have beautiful high ceilings and green accents throughout - everything in here is so thoughtfully decorated and put together. Their service - hosts are super friendly and we were quick to get seated. We came in the late afternoon and sat outside on the patio. It was pretty packed out there, but I loved the ambience outside in the evening. 10/10 for the ambience. We just got drinks and apps - we got the corn bread (delicious) and hamachi (also really tasty)! To drink, we got their pitcher of sangria - totally worth it for the price! While we didn't get any main entree items, the menu did look a bit pricey but you are definitely paying for location and atmosphere too! The pizza was good and while its a stretch, will give 3 stars for that reason only. Paying $$$ should make the trip and experience worthy of coming back. Would not return for the following reasons: 1. Calamari app was tiny and mostly bacon as filler. 2. Other dishes ordered (5) were beyond salty-everyone at the table had the same reaction. 3. Service at bar was below average-attitude, no greeting while standing at an open space. No big deal if its busy, but it really wasn't that busy. No matter what the occasion, the food and the ambiance was perfect. It's nice to sit out on the patio on a nice evening or inside on a cozy night. Our server was very sweet and made a lot of recommendations. We got one steak and one pork chop, along with the meatball starter and the green beans as a side. Everything was seriously delicious! It took a bit of a wait to get our food, and even though we didn't complain or even comment on it, our server brought us out an additional side (the cornbread) complimentary. We drove all the way to San Juan Capistrano for my birthday, visited the beautiful church, and were excited to try La Vaquera. The place itself is nice and our waiter was friendly, but the service was painfully slow. It took two full hours for our food to arrive! We sat there watching table after table--people who came in well after us--get served before we did. We were so disappointed. We even had our toddler with us and planned to let her blow out a cake for my birthday, but we ended up cancelling because at the rate things were going, it would have taken forever for them to serve it. What was supposed to be a special, celebratory meal turned into a frustrating and exhausting experience. Definitely not worth the trip. read more

We told our way that we weren't having drinks tonight, so he decided to swap us with another server which was very strange.. We didn't get silverware until we asked for it once our entrées came. We actually had to wait for about five minutes. The service was disappointing.. The beetroot salad was great. The cornbread was awful. The Seabass was great, but overall the whole service experience really killed it for us. It's such a shame to see a nice establishment like this really lose customers over poor service. Happy birthday to my little sister, who is taking one step closer to joining her brother in the fabulous 40's! To celebrate the occasion her amazing husband (my little brother in life) treated the family to a visit to the new open air marketplace in San Juan Capistrano. Being that I have spent most of my adult life in this area, I am embarrassed to say I had no idea any of this was being built. It is especially embarrassing because the area where the marketplace is located is on my personal favorite part of SJC. While I never want that area to lose its rustic charm, I was pleased to see that the architecture was respectful. La Vaquera looks very nice inside and out. The menu is extremely simple which makes it easy for the chefs to focus on a small number of dishes and execute with a greater degree of quality and flavor. While I choked on the prices, if you know how hard it is for restaurants anywhere, but particularly California, you will understand that in order to deliver the level of quality and service that we enjoyed will come at a substantial cost with these establishments are to survive. My daughters ordered a steak dish to share. My parents, sister and brother ordered 2 sea bass. My wife and I ordered the chicken. The drinks were good, the service was great, and the food was unexpectedly incredible! It is rare for such a large party to share the consensus that everything was genuinely delicious with zero misses! The chicken, even the breast was tender, the beans, cactus, and chimichuri worked perfectly together with some of their house salsa. The roasted Brussel sprouts were enviably delicious as I make pretty great Brussel sprouts. Since I am a pretty good home chef, my kids are used to having properly good cuts of steak, rare or medium rare. They knew what to order and what arrived to the table was one of the best looking steaks that I have seen in a restaurant anywhere in recent history. They were still talking about it long after we got home. Overall, I am very pleased with my experience. If you can afford it, check it out. read more

Great Cocktails, weird service, mediocre overpriced menu. We decided to try this place on opening week I think. I think they have some work to get the kinks out. We had a large party and we had to sit at two tables. The weirdest part was the host said we would have two separate checks and waiters. Super odd in my extensive experience in the service industry. Usually they would swap out the tables with the servers, but we just wanted to sit and eat. Because of this one table the waiter was great and super attentive mainly bc we were his only table. The other waitress was so overwhelmed with her other tables it was hard to get attention. We had kids with us and I suggest you leave the kids at home for this place. They do have high chairs, but our kids didn't eat anything in the menu. There wasn't a menu posted online so we entered blindly. Big mistake. Prob should have left. They are farm to table and I do appreciate that and understand the higher cost associated with such meals. The flavor of the entrees fell flat. We ordered the whole fish, whole chicken, bone in ribeye every side on the menu, a cioppino type dish and the hamachi. I think we ordered all the entrees too I cannot remember everything since it wasn't very memorable. The chicken was ok- pretty dry. The fish was decent and had a chimichurri sauce that was good. I ordered the steak medium rare (pink in the middle almost red) and it came out medium well. The waiter tried to say it was because it was on a wood grill and edges were more well done. I'm sorry if I order a $80 steak it damn well be cooked right. The entire steak was well done. We sent it back and they remade it. Still not medium rare, but I gave up. The presentation was terrible since they cut it off the bone for you and it looked like a hack job. Not used to my steak being cut already for a bone in - don't think they should do that and suggest some sort of better plate or a garnish or something to make it more presentable. I think the potatoes and beet salad were the best things on the menu. I did enjoy all their cocktails so this place is better suited as an app and cocktail bar haunt than dine in. They have mostly outdoor seating and no covering in case of rain. It started to sprinkle while we were there. Surprised they didn't think of this when they built the restaurant. Especially since it rains a lot more in the winter no one wants to eat their dinner cold and wet. More places have opened since our visit and I'll prob be more inclined to frequent the food hall and other restaurants than this one. Not sure how long this one will stay considering general consensus is service sucks and food not great. read more

Happy to have a restaurant close by with a cool outdoor eating area. The check-in with the host was somewhat disorganized, but I'm guessing that's due to recently opening. All the staff was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, I was let down by my meal and cocktail. The hash didn't have much flavor. I expected savoriness and some heat when I read "barbacoa" but there was none. The bloody mary mix had an odd taste. My wife and kids had a better experience. They liked the dulce de leche french toast, and enjoyed the surprising bluish color of the bread. My wife liked her cocktail, but we can't remember what it's called. Both lounges have high-end luxury seating and lots of screens for all your favorite sports. The staff keeps the lounges clean with friendly service. At the back, there's a walk-in humidor that's well-stocked with a great selection, including Davidoff, Padron, Opus X, Fuentes, My Father, Foundation, and Placencia, just to name a few. The Winston House stick blended by Placencia is an incredible stick for an exceptional price! Their house-made bread is a must-get to pair! Super fluffy and toasted to perfection. The Batata Harra Thousand Layered Potatoes were my personal favorite. The potatoes were sooo crispy and the sauce (made of labneh yogurt, chili, and lemon) that it came with had me licking up very last bit. Lastly, don't sleep on their Grilled Cabbage! We finally made it to Limoncello…read more I had the salmon and my husband had the lasagna. Both dishes were very good. Salmon was perfectly cooked and not too dry. Just checked with my husband. Said he liked his lasagna. He said he likes my homemade lasagna better as I put plenty of meat on each layer of the lasagna. I usually do three to four layers. Ha ha. But I do not cook at home anymore as I do not have time. Way too busy! Overall everything was great. Food was good, service was good. We enjoyed the music and the place was packed on a Sunday evening.

It wasn't served cold enough, and the dill-heavy dressing created a funky flavor that overwhelmed what should have been a simple, crisp starter. The blistered green beans were another disappointment. Instead of tender with a nice char, they were undercooked with an unpleasant crunch, and the accompanying sauce was forgettable. The bright spot was the smash burger. It leaned a little on the greasy side, but it was flavorful, satisfying, and easily the best thing we ordered. Overall, three stars feels about right. Finca has the setting, the vibe, and the potential. Now it just needs the food to live up to the promise behind its name.

We received a text that our table would be ready at a specific time and then 2 minutes before our table was supposed to be ready we get a text saying we were removed from the wait list with no clarification or follow up. I understand being busy/booked up, but I would have liked to have received accurate information. We could have made reservations online if we had been told. I wore his favorite Goonies Hawaiian shirt and everything expecting to have a nice time talking about my husband. I guess I'm glad we never had the opportunity to experience this level of service with my husband, and guess I won't be back seeing that he's dead and all. Edited to add tips - don't believe anything they tell you on the phone and if you really want to go, make a reservation, and apparently they will close for you if you can guarantee 20 people.

The window of where we were sitting faced the train tracks where an actual train stopped and picked people up. The body of the restaurant is also in like an old train depot or something, really neat! My husband got the seafood chowder and I got the truffle shuffle flatbread. My food was so good! It was also a generous size so I only ate half. And we had a bit of a drive ahead of us so I couldn't take it to go. I also tried the chowder and it was delicious, really creamy. Overall we had a wonderful experience from the moment we walked in! The area is really cute. You do have to pay for parking, but this is sort of like a downtown area and there is street parking. Give this place a try!

La Vaquera in San Juan Capistrano offers a pleasant dining experience with some highs and lows. My recent visit highlighted both the restaurant's potential and areas for improvement. Upon arrival, I encountered a significant wait time simply to speak with a host, despite two hosts being present. The process of checking the computerized seating chart and assigning tables seemed unnecessarily lengthy, causing a frustrating ten-minute delay before even being acknowledged. Thankfully, I was promptly seated in the lovely heated patio area, which offered a comfortable and inviting atmosphere. Our server was polite and efficient, adding a positive note to the service. We began with an Old Fashioned and a Jalapeño Margarita. While the margarita was perfectly balanced and enjoyable, the Old Fashioned was disappointingly light on the alcohol. For our meal, we opted for the green salad, beef tartare, and the surf and turf. The green salad, while fresh, felt somewhat lacking in variety. The large lettuce leaves were difficult to manage and the limited inclusion of only radish and nopales left me wanting more vegetables. In stark contrast, the beef tartare was an absolute standout. It was impeccably prepared, bursting with savory flavors, and literally melted in my mouth - a true highlight of the meal. The surf and turf presented another mixed bag. The prawns were sweet and fresh, showcasing excellent quality. The filet, while good, truly shone when paired with the accompanying chimichurri sauce, which elevated the dish significantly. Overall, La Vaquera offers a pleasant ambiance and some truly exceptional dishes, particularly the beef tartare. However, the slow and inefficient hosting process and the underperforming Old Fashioned and green salad detract from the overall experience. With a few tweaks, particularly in the hosting system and salad composition, La Vaquera has the potential to be a truly top-tier dining destination. I would recommend La Vaquera for its ambiance and select dishes, but be prepared for a potential wait and consider focusing on the tartare and ensuring your other selections are well-complemented by sauces or other enhancements. read more

Our waiter, Josh, provided excellent service. He gets five stars for being friendly, attentive and prompt. His crew serving water, extra plates etc. were also fantastic. We had the salad with persimmons and although the dressing was delicious, the "fresh" lettuce was slightly wilted. Josh and his manager graciously took the salad charge off our bill though. The 14 oz New York steak was very good and tender but for $59, it should have included one side at the bare minimum. My cocktail was delicious, but the glass was packed with ice, leaving me feeling a bit ripped off for the price. I had a fabulous brunch at La Vaquera this past weekend. The weather was fantastic and the ambiance was playful and earthy. The drinks were fabulous. I grabbed one from the bar, before sitting at our table. I actually recognized the bartender, Amy, from another great restauraunt I go to often, and was so happy to see her here. She is a great face to see and I loved her reccomendation for my drink. I was feeling like an espresso martini, but she suggested an Ay Carajo, and it did not dissappoint. The food at La Vaquera was amazing! There were 4 of us dining and each of our entrees were incredible: the Wagu Denver Steak, the Room to Roam Pork Chop and the Oak Grilled Local Bass. We also had the Green Goddess Salad, which was delicious, and ordered the Grilled Spanish Octopus for an appetizer. We're not usually fans of octopus but this was one of the best we've ever had. I want to say that my server was great but sometimes that can't be the only thing about a restaurant that's good. Wait times are extremely long for anything you order, whether that's drinks or food. Pricing wouldn't be a problem if orders came correct or at least better portions. If i'm paying $17 for a side i expect i it to feed at least 2 people.
