Varraco Coffee Roasters caught my eye with their menu of ube, pandan, and matcha. I ordered the iced ube latte and banana Q latte. The purple of the ube is beautiful and the flavor itself fantastic. Friendly heads up that the deep purple stains the tongue and settles in the creases of the lips. My friend is a fan of banana flavored drinks and enjoyed their banana Q. Pastries and snacks are available at the counter. Some seating available inside and outside. There is plenty of parking behind the shop. read more

I have been to this coffee roasters multiple times but one experience specifically stood out. On Saturday 7.6 I walked in & it was very busy. I was instantly greater & welcomed! There were a few people in front of me but the line went by really fast. I had the pleasure of experiencing Roy behind the bar. He did an INCREDIBLE job greeting every guest, he was present with every interaction & he worked intentionally with a sense of urgency. When he took my order (& every guest I saw him interact with) he asked for name & said " nice to meet you". It felt as if he was really grateful to have your business!!! I absolutely love this coffee shop, it is a rare gem here in the Desert. I do have a few things to note though so that hopefully they will change some things to be better! The last time we went was on a Sunday afternoon. We came at the beginning of a rush and after about 10 minutes my husbands drink was called. We thought mine would be next so we got up to stand near the counter only to find several people that paid after us were getting their drinks. We then observed what was going on and saw that my cup got mixed up with other orders behind us and also that the 3 guys that were making drinks were only prepping them and that apparently only the girl on the register was able to finish them. As you can imagine, this makes no sense and so the guys making the drinks were having a great time chatting and whatnot ... one guy was even drinking while prepping drinks!!! Eventually the manager came out to see how things were going. He patted one of the guys on the back like he was doing a good job and went back to the back room. I am hoping that they get that whole situation sorted out because I don't want to stop coming here! read more

Best coffee on our trip here! We ordered the Pinoy Varraco (an Americano) and a cortado. For $5 it was the best upgrade from the Koffi shop (barf). There was a small selection of treats that brought me back to the Philippines. We ordered the Spanish bread for our toddler (he devoured it) and we split the pork adobo pandesal. It was filling for our morning needs. The empanadas and enseamadas were pretty small in size. I would come back to try them though. I would come back for the coffee for sure! They have cool merch and the pastries aren't bad in price! The two small inconvenience is it's off the highway so the outdoor seating isn't so relaxing and there are no bathrooms. read more

I was searching for coffee places in the Palm Springs area and saw this listed. I was excited to try this place because I saw that it had Filipino themed drinks and baked goods! I'm obsessed with ube lattes so definitely wanted to give this one a try. I'm also 100% for supporting small businesses. Didn't have any issues parking, there are spaces in the front. As soon as my friends and I walked in, we were greeted by the workers. They were very kind and answered our questions about the coffee and the baked goods offered. The Ube Latte had a nice roasty taste to it, which I wasn't expecting, but also pleasantly surprised by. The Ube flavor though was pretty light, which I was a tad disappointed by. With how purple it was, I was expecting more Ube flavor like other ube lattes I've had at other cafes. The pandan babingka though was so good. Light and fluffy, was the perfect bite to satisfy my sweet tooth without being overly sweet! The ambiance was nice as well, some seating areas inside and outside too. Worth mentioning there unfortunately are no restrooms in the cafe but the staff recommended one at the nearby gas station (which by the way, is one of the cleanest I've ever been to). Overall while I was a little disappointed with the Ube Latte, I probably will come back again when I'm in Palm Springs to try their other pastries and drinks, like their Ube Matcha latte. read more

Their tagline is "wildly good coffee" but I would suggest "wildly expensive coffee" is more appropriate. The coffee is good, but nothing in particular to warrant the price. They also aren't particularly friendly. They've got some unique drinks and pastries that might be good. What we just prefer unflavored coffee drinks. read more

I've only recently switched from tea* to resume a daily coffee habit. At coffee shops I usually treat myself to a chai latte and now I get them dirty (with a shot of espresso). Considering chai lattes usually (if not always?) involve a pre-mixed chai blend of some sort, it's crazy how big a taste/quality disparity exists from one café to the next. With dirty chais the difference is even more apparent because the espresso plays such a huge role in flavor. Well, Varacco just might make the best dirty chai in the valley. They clearly use excellent quality ingredients and make some damn good coffee. It's ethically sourced, too! Food options are limited (and snack-sized) but all interesting: Filipino pastries like ensaymadas, empanadas, and ube muffins; a few gluten-free options among them. My ham & cheese ensaymada was more sweet than savory and didn't contain much ham, but wow the dough was delicious! The softest and tastiest pillow. I wish they closed a bit later than 2pm but they do open properly early at 6am. Great addition to Palm Desert. I'll definitely be a repeat customer. *Tea, you still have my love. read more

I hate to write bad reviews but as someone who has worked in the hospitality industry as a server and bartender for years (on all spectrums of hospitality) I was really disappointed. I came in for the first time the day before thanksgiving. The staff barely acknowledged me as I showed up despite being the only one in their shop for maybe 10 minutes. One eventually pointed me toward the menu. I ordered several things off the menu. I found the barista at the register to be short and cold. I inserted my card for payment. I didnt see the tip prompt at first and she didnt take time to point me toward their screen until I had to sign and when I realized I didnt get a tip screen I asked about it. She printed my receipt and said its fine which I think was done in bad taste. No eye contact, I insisted to be able to tip and she ignored me. I was excited to come in as a filipino who loves single origin coffee and not been to a filipino owned and sourced coffee shop. The coffee was okay to be honest not horrible but not good. Their pastries were awesome though ( I had bought 8 so my bill was like 60 bucks). Overall I am just disappointed as a filipino as we are known for hospitality and to go to a coffee shop thats trying to promote filipino culture it sucked to have such a trash experience from start to end. I do think the owner was running in and out and seems like he either was oblivious or didnt care to say anything. I hope they do better in the future for other people. read more

I'm glad there's a specialty coffee shop in Palm Desert and this one is very high quality. I'm delighted to drink their Pinoy Varraco which is the version of Americano. The coffee is so smooth, I heard they use Liberica beans which only grows once a year on a certain altitude and temperature in the Philippines. I can taste the high quality coffee from the regular coffee, this one is superior taste. Not to mention their pastries, like ensaymada ube and milo they melt in your mouth, ube bibingka is my favorite too. I highly recommend them pls come and visit, it will exceed your expectations. Grand opening was on Veterans Day- that's motivating! This Coffee is wildly delicious! I ordered an Iced Ube Latte- (so good!) on my morning date with my stud! We shared a chicken and beef empanada that were perfectly warmed and moist on the inside. The service was professional and personable which I truly enjoyed. The owners approached and told us about the business and how they buy directly from the farmers- pretty amazing to know that the farmers are being treated well! Great energy in this place, perfect place for cyclists amongst anyone just looking for a legitimately tasty yet strong coffee. 30 minutes for a pastry. The staff was so slow that customers were leaving before they could order. Parking is also difficult because the car clubs illegally block off parking spots with cones to reserve for their friends/members. Seems like the business encourages that behavior. read more

I was driving down Hwy 111 and saw a cluster of bright red balloons and a new sign. I turned around and stopped to find a brand new coffee shop. It was opening day and had quite a crowd. The employees (maybe one of the owners) were very friendly and helpful. As you enter, there is a beautiful coffee roasting machine. They had a Filipino inspired coffee and pastry menu, with options for an Ube (purple yam) and pandan (fragrant green leaf) hot and iced lattes. They also have the more traditional coffee menu and a brown sugar latte. They also served empanada, ensymadas and babinka. The Ube latte was flavorful and a little earthy. I will try the pandan or brown sugar latte the next time. I also got the pandan babinka, which was a vibrantly green colored tasty not too sweet glutinous cake, I also tried their drip coffee. They don't yet sell any packaged beans. I was told that the beans are sourced directly from the farmers from a region in the Philippines. I've tried coffee from beans sourced from S. America, Africa, Indonesia, Vietnam and Hawaii, so this was a first. These beans from the PI have a very unique & unexpected flavor profile. I'm not sure if I'm a fan yet b/c it's different from anything I've tasted, but it's worth a second go. All in all, I'm glad there's a new independent & unique coffee shop on this stretch of the 111 and hope they do well. read more

UBE Matcha Latte. I could end the review with those three words. When I say this is a must order I mean it. It is sooo good and pretty. Look at those colors. The ube compliments the matcha flavor so well. None of that bitterness from the matcha that is typical. The ube masks that flavor with a subtle sweetness. I love it and got it two days in a row. The turkey club is also surprising good for being a cold sandwich. We just wanted to grab a quick bite before heading to the tennis tournament. The vibe and ambience is also really great. They actually roast the beans right in the lobby which makes it a very unique experience. The service is great and fast. Such a solid coffee spot that it makes me so sad I don't live near here. I'm from OC, but at least the BFs family lives walking distance from here! I'll be stalking the announcements when whole beans are available. I purchased and enjoyed the iced Ube Latte (creamier texture than other lattes, maybe due to the Ube), the varraco iced tea with calamansi syrup unlocked my childhood, and the selection of bibingka, ensaymada make my heart happy. I work periodically in Palm Desert. I am always staying at a corporate hotel in a corporate park type area that is surrounded by corporate food chains of various kinds. Needless to say I was pretty desperate to find some real coffee somewhere. The description I read made Varraco seem like the one to try and I was not disappointed. Apparently the coffee is roasted in house because there was a big roaster right inside the door. The place really aesthetically pleasing and had a cool vibe. There were two baristas working so even though it was busy (a good sign) it didn't take forever to get served or to get my drink. At the last minute I decided to go with a Matcha because it was hot so I got an Iced Brown Sugar Matcha. It was made with a brown sugar syrup so I didn't run into sugar grains it had a good smooth texture, and the syrups are all clearly made in-house. That Matcha was absolutely delicious (I am glad I asked for half sweet). I definitely plan to make a return visit here. read more

My wife and I went to Varraco on Christmas Eve morning. It was fairly busy. That's always a good sign. We ordered coffee drinks and a small bag of ground coffee to go. The drinks were very tasty!!! We would go back for those. Now for the -1 star.... The ground coffee. I asked for a medium grind for a drip machine. When I opened the bag to make a pot later, it was fine grind. And I'm not too sure about the coffee itself.... They advertise it as a Philippines coffee, which I'll admit I'm not familiar with. But it had a "green" taste to it. As though the coffee wasn't completely roasted. My wife and I both felt that taste. Ultimately, I were back down there and was jonesin' for a tasty coffee drink, I would. But Indont think I would pay $25 for a 12 ounce bag of their coffee. read more

Great coffee and pastries! I came one day for the ube matcha latte and really enjoyed it, so I ended up coming back the next day for their Varraco Latte and I told my friend about it and he wanted an iced americano. We both thoroughly enjoyed our drinks. I also had the beef empanada, I just wish it was bigger! Ample parking in the back and the front. I would definitely make this a priority stop every time I'm in the area. They also sell candles that they make, I bought my girlfriend a matcha candle that I thought smelled pretty good!
