I shared a Colossal Burger with the misses. It's a decent sized burger but not exactly colossal. I'll have to say the price isn't bad for what you're getting. The lettuce was kind of mehh and the seasoning of the burger patty was ok. I liked the pastrami and the bread/sauce was okay too. The fries were okay. They were freshly made out of the fryer. The onion rings I was surprised how it was bland. Bland isn't a bad thing as typically onion rings can be pretty salty. Just add some ketsup/ranch and we were good too go. The rings were abit doughy. We have been going to Varsity Burgers like forever... They were participating in the summer reading program with our local library and after certain number of books read the child received a voucher for a kids meal, this is back in the day when Varsity gave in the kids meal a styrofoam airplane to put together ...Fast forward, now my kids are adults and we still like going to this restaurant from time to time. Juan, the manager, has been very attentive the times we interacted with him. Not everything is perfect, there has been some inconsistencies over the years on how they prepared the chicken fajita chicken wrap, some were small others huge, the meat sometimes has too much fat, the fish sandwich sometimes came like they double fry it to make sure the fish was dead, the tacos were sad, the taquitos over fried, the Mexican meal were so-so. 2021, I'm not a fan of the nacho chips, we still like the fajita chicken wrap (so good, more now they are consistent with the size), fries are good, the chicken torta, breakfast burrito, the breakfast pancake combo, taco salad, the horchata and Jamaica, the salads. I don't venture out with the meat but that's me, some in my family love their burgers. The prices are OK, they have increased but what hasn't nowadays. Overall, this illustrates, the power of a business getting involved in community programs, besides the reading program, they have also sponsored sports team for kids (baseball), when I was in the PTSA we went there to see it they would sponsor some vouchers for the kids "caught being good" and they did. And this is the main reason why we keep going to this restaurant. Great random spot to try. Randomly found this place will looking for dinner one day. I definitely had to try the pastrami sandwich that they have and I was most definitely not disappointed! This sucker is HUGE, there is sooooo much meat on this sandwich it's crazy. The meat is very juicy, tender and very delicious. I added horseradish to mine when I got home. I also tried the chili cheese fries because I just had to they are my favorite. Fries where nicely seasoned with salt and topped with and all meat chili with tomato and some cheesy cheddar cheese. My boyfriend got the bbq burger and he liked it but would omit the lettuce next time he orders. I like this place and have been coming a few years. The shredded beef taquitos are the best, as well as the cheese burgers and fries. Although, they often get the orders wrong so we double check now every time. Especially mixing up lemons when I ask for limes! Lemons are yellow and limes are GREEN. Had a Colossal Burger w pastrami, 1/4 lb patty, Swiss cheese, 1000 island dressing plus crisp iceberg lettuce, pickles, tomato and onion. Classic, simple, juicy beef and fresh fixins, pretty damn tasty an hefty to boot. And only $4.49. Their cornmeal-battered onion rings are perfect paired with it..So tasty, hand dipped, perfect crunch, onion fresh and crispy never soggy, not too greasy and a large portion. And only $2.99! I'm a local in the area and I've been here more then a few times. The quality of service as well as food has gone down hill. This afternoon I ordered a chef salad and when I got almost to the end I noticed small black hairs in the meat portion of my salad. There's arrows pointing it out so it cannot be missed. When I called and spoke to the manager about it she said she could refund me or give me a replacement but what's to stop hairs from being in my salad again when it happened already. Also she said it was probably an accident but let's be real one hair could be an accident but many.? After she wanted me to drop it and refund me or offer me a replacement which gave me the impression that she wouldn't be dealing with the employee who was responsible for tainting the salad I received. I pass this place on the daily while working, and decided to give it a try. I searched on yelp to see what was good and after seeing pictures of the Pastrami Sandwich, I had to get it! The pastrami was so meaty and juicy. . . and forgot to mention, MASSIVE. It did not disappoint. We also got an order of Fried Zucchini Fries that was also huge af. For many months in Anaheim, I have bookmarked a particular burger joint. It was always a suggested place to try out. I haven't been to places like this in a long time. However, this place didn't just catered to the carnivores, but also the health conscience; to a little degree. Like high school we all had to do some sort of tryouts, but in Anaheim, you already made it to Varsity Burger. Located on the south side of West Lincoln Ave across the St. Boniface, you'll find one of Anaheim's famous burger joints called, Varsity Burger. My review will be quite short since I used a service that I usually don't use: Drive-Thrus. I had arrived at 12:15pm. **RED ALERT** I knew way before coming here that this is a popular lunch spot. If you drive a big truck like I do, the parking lot can get tight real fast. With so many customers, the line did extend to the street. People were trying to swerve around me and just park. There were also people who sat outside in the patio in this heat just to eat. The Drive-Thru is a mess. Also, if you do have a big truck, you can have a little issue trying to turn. I made it through, but I am not sure about those with a lifted pickup. I read the history of Varsity Burger and it is pretty intriguing. Varsity Burger is actively involved with the community. I have seen photos with law enforcement to kids at school. Definitely puts a place in my heart for Varsity. Varsity doesn't just take price with their awards, but with their internal staff. This is one business that has three Food Managers. That's very rare to have those for a place that doesn't need to have it. I wouldn't mind getting a couple World Class Chefs here now. The menu is very straight forward. You can order your typical burgers, tacos, burritos, salads, sandwiches, and pancakes for your breakfast. I had my eye set out for something that I love eating and always catches my eye. I pulled up to the window after waiting in the queue for about 10 minutes. I ordered the Turkey Burger on a wheat bun ($3.79) with a side order of Jumbo Onion Rings ($2.79). Then the line moved faster as you got to the pickup window. I looked through the window and I probably saw one of the Food Managers working with the staff. That was cool to see the staff member smiling and having fun. I got my order in two brown bags in a plastic bag. I noticed that one was already greased up. Uh oh...What have I got myself into? I know its my onion rings. When I got back to work, the strong smell of the onion rings had completely taken over the interior of my vehicle. I knew this was going to be trouble for. I saw the JUMBO onion rings were no joke. Were these molded from Calamari or what?! The lady packed me a ranch dressing, but one wasn't enough. Ask for another. Trust me, you'll be needing at least two. Honestly, the onion rings were not greasy. I thought it was baked. After eating a few, I got tired. Not because of eating it, but my jaws munching through these large onion rings. Now onto my Turkey Burger! It was a good size with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and 1000 Island Dressing. I noticed two large slices of pickles. I love it already! When I dug into my Turkey Burger, my sandwich didn't quite hold, The turkey patty broke apart and the other pieces followed suit. I wasn't quite happy about it, but I did make the most of what was left. The structure of the burger looked fine when its packaged, but when you break it by taking ONE bite, it shouldn't fall apart. I do hope my second visit, the burger works out a little better. This is crowd favorite in Anaheim. It may not look like much from the outside, but its what inside that counts the most. Wow. Finally a spot I enjoy that isn't too far away! I have visited for almost as long as I lived in the area, but the trips were rare. For a while my husband didn't want to try it. He was not a big hamburger lover, despite me saying that they had many options of food items. He finally tried it a long time later and became a big fan. Despite this, I don't visit often enough. Mostly because it's not in my face where I pass it all the time. It is actually the opposite direction of the way I go when I exit the freeway coming home. Considering that work currently sucks up most of my days, it is often that I will not see it. Also, trying to pull in is a nightmare if you need to turn left. You hold up a lane because there isn't a turning lane, and the cars coming the other direction seem to be an endless train. My recommendation is to find a way, a different street, anything to allow you to pull in by turning right. They are not the fastest here. The food is cooked to order. However, they are much quicker than another very rude and expensive business. I will leave their name out for now. Hamburger combos are around $6.49 after tax, without adding anything such as bacon, avocado, etc. Not a bad price! They do have many other food options, but we come here for a good burger. We recently picked my husband up some dinner and our receipt actually had an option for a free burger if I brought the receipt back. So, we came back not long after before the arena football game. One whole combo with bacon, and one regular burger ran me just over $7. Pretty nice! I only wish I remembered to add avocado. Get the stamp card. The actual steak in the "Steak and Eggs" plate is huge. The kids meal's are a great price and a pretty big size. If I'm not too hungry, I usually just order a kids meal just so I could spend under $5 and still get fries and a drink. First issue - we ordered food for 4 people, they sent only 3 items. If you have a warrant out for your arrest, don't even think about eating here. It's right by the police station and I've stopped by here morning, noon and night and there's at LEAST one cop car sighting and one or more cops seen eating here. That being said, it's a good burger joint with a good amount of choices for food. I'd compare it to Paul's place or Farmer Boys, but without the chain restaurant feel. It's small and simple and fast so if you're in the neighborhood, or thinking of eating somewhere close to Disneyland but way cheaper, go here. I've eaten their Western Burger protein style and their avocado swiss protein style and both are filling and taste great. I skip the fries and always get an order of their fried zucchini which is the best in town in my opinion. My only dislike so far was their veggie burrito. They don't revolutionize the quick serve food industry with their menu offerings, but they exceed perfectly at what they set out to do: make kick-ass breakfast and lunch food. The food here is more like 3 stars. I've tried the Western BBQ Burger, which I thought would be like Carl's Jr.'s Western Bacon Cheeseburger. I'll give credit for the generous amount of bacon and onion rings. But it instead had the Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, and their red dressing sauce. Therefore, it didn't really taste like the Carl's but it was still okay. I also had their Jalapeno Swiss Burger, and while that was also okay, the jalapenos were the canned/bottled type, small round sliced ones instead of whole sliced-open pepper ones that I expected. Fried zucchinis = Not bad. I think their yummy house ranch is what makes it good. Chili cheese fries = I didn't like this one. Especially the big chunks of ground beef in the chili; they were like mini-meatballs. These fries were actually more cheese than chili in my case. I'm gonna bump Varsity Burgers up to 4 stars though. Why? Mainly because of their great service. They are super busy here; it gets packed inside and they also have quite a bit of drive-thru traffic. Not bad for an almost hidden burger stand across the way from Anaheim High School. Passed by and never dropped in, way too often. They seem busy every second with hoards of people coming through for lunch or dinner. Summer months are probably the best time to come here for lunch, while school is out of session for Anaheim High. Portions are stunningly stacked to the maximum on the pastrami sandwich and chicken salad. The large chili cheese fries could have been more smothered in chili and shredded cheese, I've seen the take out portions look more gorgeous with chili scoops and cheese galore. Love the food! Parking didn't seem bad on a weekday night. Kind of deceiving because there were just a few empty tables inside. Judging from the surrounding area (lots of taco joints and signs in spanish), that this is located in a latino community. Large menu (breakfast, mexican, sandwiches, burgers, salads, apps), steady crowd inside (seating inside- tables and chairs, while booths are along the sides of the restaurant and outside- round tables) and in the drive-thru lane, large portions, good prices---I'm surprised this wasn't on DDD (hey, Guy Fieri check it out; ok, well if he went here, I didn't see that episode, just saying). Inside feels like a fast food joint, except in different colors (off-white and sage green). This is definitely a locals joint (so you know it's good, plus over 300 reviews on Yelp). I was checking out people's food, 'cause I wanted to see what everyone else was ordering, seemed like everyone had something different but the taco salad was huge. I couldn't decide what I was getting until I was up at the window, but I got the chicken gyro (it was bigger than I expected, really good flavor, and filling), chicken fingers (pretty big) and fries (generous) for the boy, and a carne asada burrito for my hubby (had a few bites, man, it was really good, the meat was lean, too). Hubby said that it beat Roberto's Taco Shop's back home (which was his new favorite, at the time). Salsa & condiments are located near the soda machine. Service was pleasant, though they were busy. The food was prepared fast. I think that there was a bathroom on the right side of the ordering counter. Due to the busy nature of this place, the turnaround time seems quick. It really was an equal mix of diners inside, people getting food for take-out and the drive-thru line---they get a lot of repeat/local business. I've been coming to this place since 2012 and it has never disappointed. It is an affordable establishment and offers a lot of food options ranging from your typical meat/rice burrito to a fresh salad. The food portions are also very generous, and is overall, guaranteed to satisfy your belly. Now, keep in mind that this place is mostly known for its burgers, so before you pick something else, make sure you're 100% positive that it's what you want. This of course, is not to say that other food options aren't fantastic because quite frankly, they are, but it's only a warning for those who are on the pickier side. Additionally, they have a condiment bar (hot peppers, pico de Gallo, tapatío, ketchup, napkins etc.) so you can get toppings to your liking! If you want ranch you have to ask though (staff is friendly). I personally love this place! It's right by a high school and a big Catholic Church so be aware that 1pm-4pm might be poppin'. The staff is very patient and they try their best to assist customers even if they're busy. :) If you're not feeling social, they also offer a drive-thru! I can't believe I'm barely doing this now.... My family and I have been going here for years. This is our go to place for breakfast muffin sandwiches, fries, burgers , ranch dressing (free)and onion rings. The employees from the management to drive thru seem to always be in a positive and friendly mood. The women especially go out of their way to smile, be courteous and offer friendly chats. Varsity burger is overall an OK place and priced reasonably. But the weird thing is, some things on the menu are slightly better than the actual burgers. I hope at some point they fix this. They should. The main problem is the meat. The beef has no flavor. I got a bacon avocado cheeseburger, and all I could taste was the bacon. After trying the halal burgers at World Famous Grill down the street, perhaps I've been spoiled. When meat lacks any kind of flavor I suspect maybe it's just pink slime formed into a patty shape. But I have gotten okay frozen patties at Von's and grilled those and they were just fine compared to Varsity meat. It's baffling to me. I just don't get it. They are really generous with the toppings and the burgers are huge. The bacon is yummy. These burgers could really pack people in if they just made 'em better. And maybe with sturdier buns. The damn burgers usually wind up falling apart, especially if you add avocado. I mean, this is a local favorite with a built-in and probably very loyal fan base. But seriously, the burgers are junior varsity at best. Very disappointing. I want them to be better. They should be better. The pastrami sandwich is full of fat and I couldn't finish it. The carne asada fries are meat and cheese only, which is weird as other toppings are usually standard around these parts. The fried zucchini could have been better as it was slightly undercooked but maybe on another day it could be fantastic. Onion rings are above average. The chicken breast sandwich is okay. A breakfast burrito my cohort ordered looked squishy, mostly beans, and nothing to write home about. In Anaheim, we have a plethora of places where you can find really good asada fries and burritos, so I was amazed at the poor quality. Uh, these items actually made the burgers seem a little better. But how sad! I'm sorry but there's so much better out there. This is like the light beer of burger joints and even the other items on the menu are weak. I'm really surprised the place is always packed and comes so highly recommended. They seem like really nice people, and I'll give them another chance down the line. Where is the only place where you can get a burger, tacos, wraps and shakes all at once? Varsity burger of course! Neighborhood was a bit shady but inside is packed with people. My husband and I shared a burger and it was good not too greasy. The amazing part though is the thick cut French fries and fried onion rings the size of your fist! Great variety for all those people who can't decide what type of food they want to eat. Definitely worth a try! read more

If I could give no stars that's what I would do. Seriously they need to let MARICELA GO She's been there for years and is always interrupting the other girls taking our orders causing them to come out wrong. She has such a nasty attitude that it rubs off on the other employees.. I don't know why I continue to take my family here.. Service has gone to sh**!!! HORRIBLE!! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME (that new drive thru is ridiculous ) If you must go, go after 11 once the manager is there. I wouldn't tho. I gave them a second chance and I regret it. So I wanted to give this place a try since I drive by it often. I also saw it had 4 stars so that is pretty good but I am starting to think it may be people that are friends with the business owners or something. Well anyways, I ordered chili cheese fries and a breakfast burrito, I was super excited because it looked great..but biting into was a different story. The food tasted terrible especially the chili cheese fries. The meat tasted bitter and old. The breakfast burrito was beyond salty and the hash brown tasted really old.
