I added that I was willing to pay extra. "No. We can't do that. You can build your own though." So, I began to build my own. Only I couldn't build my own because there is a limit of 2 meats. I wanted 3. Who has ever heard of a customer being denied a request to order something additional when they were willing to pay for it? I haven't. I had heard from a friend that Varuni Napoli had the "best pizza in Atlanta" so the restaurant had a lot to live up to with that title. Unfortunately, I should have probably checked out the original Midtown location first to prove/disprove the claim, but since it was a Monday, our only option was to go to Krog. It was my first time dining at Krog, and I was very surprised that there was so little seating available at the market. Even though it was just a weekday Monday night, there were still no tables available, which were inconvenient to access from Varuni Napoli anyway as the seating is at the opposite side of the market. We chose to sit at the bar around Varuni Napoli, which thankfully offers a dozen seats or so around the restaurant. However, I can imagine that even these bar seats are very crowded on the weekends, and it wasn't the set up that I had desired considering we had met up with family and were hoping to have good conversation over dinner. We started with the Arancini, which is an appetizer that I typically love but Varuni Napoli's were not personally my favorite preparation. I split a Bianca pizza with my sister in law which was tasty and also had a Mercato Caprese salad. The salad was outstanding -- all the ingredients were exceptionally fresh. I would recommend ordering a side of the balsamic dressing (that comes with the Mercato Caprese) to drizzle over the Bianca pizza. We completed our meal with the Nutella Calzone. Though my pizza was fine, my husband was extremely disappointed in his pizza. Both of our pizza crusts were on the soft side, and combined with some veggie toppings, his pizza was practically edible mush. So unpleasant here the only person that showed a gram of kindness was the guy who greeted me when checking in. This location is quicker than the other but you definitely miss out on the ambiance. I don't think the quality is as good here at the Kroger street location as the other but it's still great. Friendly staff. The Spacca is my favorite, great truffle. The seating is limited and better to take it to go. Also, the seats are rather uncomfortable (but I'm 5' tall). Still one of the best in ATL. We love Varuni Napoli! Their pizza is absolutely excellent and one of the only pizza joints in Atlanta that tastes and looks exactly like some of the best pizzas we have had in Italy. It's 100% legit. The first time we ate here was in the market and we had fast and friendly service, the second time was delivery through Door Dash and it was just as good as having eaten it straight out of the oven. Maybe that is a kudos for Door Dash but either way, the pizza held up through transportation and didn't get soggy, cold or stale. I really do hate eating at Krog Street due to their total lack of seating especially at peak times when the whole dining area is occupied by people drinking beer from Hop City, so they are now my go-to pizza delivery spot. read more

As you can see, this pizza was too good to wait for a picture. This was my first time eating here, and it was honestly so delicious and very authentic Italian tasting pizza. I asked for crushed red pepper, and it came as chopped red chili's with a slight vinegar taste, it was actually quite good and different! The pizza was scalding hot, in the best way! There isn't too much seating, but we found some bar seats, and the staff checked up on us often. Pretty good. Would go back to try other pizzas. My only downside (pretty big downside) was mine had alot of brunt spots--particulary on the bottom that had a strong bitter taste. Maybe they can't bake it a minute less? The toppings were all good and their layout is very cool because you can see it all being made behind the glass. Paisans (is that the right word?), definitely check this place out! Ambience: You know you're at a Varuni by the distinctive blue pizza ovens. It's pretty, but the fire inside is what makes the magic happen. You order at the cashier and are given a number and then you wait and watch the art of making pizza. The assembly line is a work of art in itself. Some dude is hand grinding tomatoes while another dude hand tosses the freshly made dough and another puts the fresh toppings on. The last guy gets the long wooden pizza pallet and shoves the pizza deep into the fiery belly of the blue beast. A few minutes later the moment that you've been waiting for arrives. Food: I got the Bastardo($15): mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, spicy pepperoni, nouja (spicy spreadable pork sausage in raging sauce), and pecorino marano. The dough is everything. Slightly blackened on the bottom and a thin doughy taste the really provides the foundation of the pizza. The ingredients paired really well and the only complaint is that I thought the sauce was a touch vinegary. All in all, this is an excellent pizza! Service: This is a counter establishment, but the cashier was friendly and the guy who served my pizza noted the hot platter and got me a tray so I wouldn't burn my hands. I had just landed in Atlanta and was in the general area looking for a place to pick up lunch with my parents. Based on a search of the area on Yelp I decided (with their approval) that we should choose Varuni Napoli. Parking, as others have said, is challenging at Krog Street Market, so my Mom and I went in while my Dad circled and eventually scored one of the 20-minute parking spots. Based on the side we entered from, Varuni Napoli was at the far-side of the market, but we kept our eyes on the prize and rounded the corner to the blue oven and open kitchen area with pizza prep happening right before our eyes. The staff was happy and helpful as we went to place our order. The pizzas are a little larger than a personal-sized pizza, so for a party of 3 we decided we should order 2 pizzas. We went for the Bastardo ($15), which they told us was the second spiciest on the menu - it comes with fresh mozzarella, pepperoni, Nduja (this is where the spice comes in - pork sausage ragu sauce), Pecorino Romano and basil. Our other choice was the Margherita ($12) - served traditoinally with fresh mozzarella, Pecorino Romano and basil. The mozzarella was being sliced in front of us and the dough was also being prepped in front of us. The pizzas came straight from the oven right into our two to-go boxes in about 15 minutes. If you wanted to eat there, they have a counter around the entire open-air kitchen with stools for you to eat and watch them in their craft. Being from Chicago you get the best of the best, from deep dish pizza to fire pit pizza but Varuni Napoli fails in comparison to most pizza places I've had. Now, I was truly impressed when I was told that the pizza would be ready in 3 minutes but was underwhelmed by the outcome. The pizza dough under cooked (too light underneath) and lacked the flavor of Tofu. On top of that the ingredients outweighed the pizza causing the cheese and pepperoni to slide off each slice. The marinara sauce was bland but a little oregano, pepper, and ketchup could give it a kick a flavor that would help me forgive all the other shortcomings. All in all, I can honestly say I don't have to eat here ever again. But if you're hungry enough to give your taste buds a let down then try it for yourself! read more

If you are ordering for pickup, don't forget to check in at the front instead of going to the pick up area. Not being from Atlanta, I don't get to have Varuni Napoli as much as I would like, but I make it a stop every time I am in the area. I dream of this delicious pizza. I have had several different pizzas off the menu, but my two favorites have to be the Spacca Napoli and the Porreca Piccante. The spacca Napoli is a vegetarian white pie. Mozzarella, mushrooms, onions, Pecorino Romano, basil, truffle salt, and black truffle oil. My mouth is watering just thinking about this pizza. The crust is the perfect amount of thick and thin. The porreca piccante is a red pie, mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, Hot Soppressata, cherry tomatoes, Calabrian peppers, Pecorino Romano, basil. If you like it hot, this is your pie! It will set your mouth on fire in the most pleasant way. Their drink selection is fabulous. At this location they have red and white wines, Peroni on draft, as well as negroni on draft. You can't go wrong with this place, if it's dine in, delivery, or my favorite, eating it on the car ride back to Birmingham. Makes for a much more pleasant of a ride. Ha! read more

I was looking forward to visit this place for such a long time however was highly disappointed after my yesterday's visit. Nothing went right for us yesterday. Like always I ordered a margarita pizza here, staff at the counter who took my order did his job. After ordering we occupied two seats at the counter and after sometime an employee told us to find a different place as the seats for reserved for people who ordered drinks. Given it is very hard to find seating space here, I did not appreciate this action. We however found a place to sit and within 5 minutes our pizza also arrived. I was surprised to see the our margarita pizza was watery and soggy. It needed more time in the oven. I could not see condiments around so asked an employee, he just directed me to find it around the counter. Still couldn't find it so ended up eating without it. The sauce used was not well seasoned and felt it needed to be cooked more. Overall pizza needed more time in the oven. Basil was added while baking so it was burned when it arrived , margarita always taste better with fresh basil. I neither enjoyed my pizza here nor the service. read more

I finally am sitting down to review Varuni after eating here twice now. I got really excited after eating here the first time because their pizzas were just so delicious and they came out quickly but work got the better of me... so here we are. Better late than never, right? Varuni has 2 locations here in Atlanta, one here in Krog Street Market (KSM) and one down in Midtown. Of course, I am reviewing the one here at KSM which is located towards the back of the building. In the morning, the open up with all the other restaurants and area ready to serve when the time comes. Order at the register and you pick up your pizza at the other end. Both times I have ordered the Porreca Piccante which is mildly spicy and great for those who just want a little kick to their pizza. The best thing though is the crust which comes out perfectly cooked with a slight chew. The crust is thin and not too soggy which some of these pizzas are susceptible to if you aren't good at what you do. The husband today got the make your own margherita which he loved. I know that being here in Atlanta, you have your choice of pizzas (I feel like a flight attendant) but Varuni is definitely at or near the top. While I do love Antico's, this place has something special with their slightly larger than personal pizzas. They do have other appetizers here as well but I haven't had the chance to try them yet. Of all the many choices at KSM I decided to eat here because I had eaten at their ansley location. The cashier seemed bothered to walk over and take my order. I ordered a pizza to eat there. I ordered water and was told I could purchase bottled or walk to the front of market for the complimentary water. WTF I paying $12 for a cheese pizza and they can't give me a glass of water.
