However, it did not matter because EVERYONE we had interacted with (on the phone and in person) was truly amazing. They came out to our car to triage our boy because he is ver reactive . They were so efficient , caring ,empathetic patient ,Helpful and knowledgeable . Made a not so great experience the best it could possible be . It's a great team , Thank you !!!

VCA ASEC saved my bulldog's life! Splash had an obstruction thanks to her habit of exploring the world through taste. She had abdominal surgery requiring multiple incisions in her digestive tract at another hospital, and it failed and ruptured internally on the third day of recovery, sadly not utterly unexpected. The contents of her stomach and intestines were leaking into her abdomen, making it septic. The other hospital discovered this whilst I was visiting, confessed the needed surgery was beyond their capability and sent me to VCA ASEC. I'm so glad they did! Only an hour and change later, board certified surgeon Dr. Sroufe arrived and completed what he later told me was a "pretty gnarly surgery", removing unviable tissue, resectioning her intestines, cleaning out the infectious goo from her abdomen to put poor Spash's digestive system back together. Splash had an extremely long recovery time in hospital, several weeks. Her poor insides had been through a lot and stomach motility had stopped. She regurgitated (something very familiar to bulldog owners), aspirated, and caught pneumonia. She was in and out of the oxygen cage and required a GI tube for feeding and aspiration of fluid build up in her very slow tummy, and for a while an abdominal drain. She was on IV meds for darn near everything. For a while, she was on IV fluids, but then had edema and needed treatment for that; another familiar thing to the breed. It was ages before she was out of the woods. Each and every step of the way, for days, the team was kind, compassionate and patient with both her and us. Doctors Tovar, Spurlock, Regalado, Ixtlahuac, Judge and Ong all at one point of another took care of Splash and communicated with us in person or over the phone. Tovar, Spurlock and Regalado made a point of calling us with updates once and often twice a day; they would even take time to keep Splash with them around the hospital, to ensure she was able to keep her emotional state up. Both my husband and myself were always made welcome on our daily visits to see Splash. Each visit, the doctor on shift would come and fill us in and answer all our questions. We always felt they cared about both us and Splash. If we called, someone would ALWAYS call back within an hour or two. The techs and nurses were also amazing. They were invested in doing the best they could for Splash and helping her survive and live. They even took time to pet her and comfort her. When she was able, they took her out of her kennel for play and walkies. Everyone she passed when I was there would greet her by name with a cheerful voice. The total care for her entire time there was expensive. That's around the clock board and care, medication, oxygen cage, food, IV placement and replacement when the vein blew (which is a fact of life; eventually, you need to move to another vein.) repeated scans throughout her stay such as x rays and ultrasounds and blood/fluid tests to see how her recovery was progressing, treatment for edema, and more. Critical hospital care for much of the month of July. This is not unusual or a rip off of any sort. We have no pet insurance, as bulldogs are expensive to insure, and that's what it cost. The finance department were very clear about charges, and gave us a high and low estimate, letting us know that anything not used would be refunded or used as credit for the next period we pre-paid for. They were patient as we did our best to gather funds from our savings, credit, and eventually a GoFundMe. They worked WITH us to ensure we could continue, as everyone could see she was fighting and not ready to die. Without them, I would have lost the sweetest dog in the world! Now she is home and nearly back to herself, playing, snoring like a bear and demanding treats and butt scratches.

I was referred to Dr. Somerville by my vet to do a high risk surgery on my kitty. In the words of my vet "I would trust Dr. Somerville with my life". That's all I needed to hear. I called a few times to schedule a consultation prior to the surgery and that was the only difficult part of the experience, finding time to schedule since the Dr. is only there a few days a week. But honestly what was an anxious and stressful experience was tempered by the professionalism and care of VCA ASEC. Everyone was friendly and compassionate and took the time to answer my questions. I got frequent updates, a treatment plan, and went home with my kitty (who was miserable because of the cone) but in good spirits. I appreciated the communication and care that they provided. It came with a hefty price tag but that is because you're paying for the quality and expertise. I want to thank everyone there for all the hard work they do and I'm so grateful to have been referred there.

Five stars for Dr. Sean Yoshimoto. Dr. Yoshimoto is not only kind and extremely knowledgeable, but he is also not a money-driven doctor. He truly cares about our pets and our feelings as pet parents. Even though my heart was completely broken after hearing that my beloved has a very aggressive cancer, I still want to sincerely thank Dr. Yoshimoto. Despite his very full schedule, he squeezed us in for a CT scan appointment, which meant so much to our family. After reviewing the CT scan, he knew that what was in my baby's nose was not something good. Instead of performing an unnecessary procedure, he made the honest decision not to proceed and even refunded us over $1,600. That speaks volumes about his integrity and character. He is truly a doctor with a great heart. We really wish there were more doctors like you in this world--it would absolutely make the world a much better place. We previously had very bad experiences at another emergency pet hospital, but VCA ASEC gave us a more-than-5-star experience. We also met Dr. E during our ER visit, and she was incredibly kind and knowledgeable as well. Thank you, doctors. CobyBean is so lucky to have met you in his life. We are beyond grateful. I truly hope my daughter can one day become a wonderful veterinarian like you all. Thank you

This was my first time here, and the staff and Dr.Brittany Shuster, DVM was amazing, she really cared about my dog wellbeing. I was really worried about my sweet dog Rex, but she assure that whatever it is we will figure it out. Thank you again to the team and Dr. Brittany, as you can see in the photo my baby is resting

Another great experience at ASEC! I brought in my dog Spike for an abdominal ultrasound with Dr. Laurel Krause. She was able to answer my questions and was able to give me the peace of mind I needed. Can't thank her enough.

I've taken the last 3+ months to reflect back on everything that happened to my dog who was being treated at VCA ASEC in the months leading up to her passing. I can't directly fault ASEC for any of the care that they provided (I think) but I also can't say that I know exactly know what happened in the areas where they take our pets after we meet with the doctor. My dog had Cushings Disease which is very common for her breed and she was being treated with the appropriate medication for a number of months. We went in for monthly lab work in April and when they brought her out from the back something was very, very wrong. I told them that while I was still there but I couldn't get any answers and they were basically like, we did what you came here for and time for you to go. I would mention that this VCA location is also an ER. Later that night, we took her to the ER down the block from ASEC (the big white ER bldg at 1900 S. Sepulvida) and they diagnosed a stroke. I have to say that the doctors at the ER (big white Bldg) were beyond lovely and helpful. They gave me a number to text them about any changes. They called me throughout the week that followed to discuss changes, developments and food. They really got us through that first week. The bill for 1 night at the ER was approx $11K. We had to give her 4-5, maybe 6, medications and one of them cost $1,800 and that was from Costco! Never heard a word from ASEC. Not a peep. While we were at the ER they requested all of her records from ASEC so there was some communication but, to what extent, I don't know. We spent the next few months nursing her back to health and being somewhat in denial about the bigger picture. I also had her examined at True Pet in the valley but we never got very far as we had another emergency about 3 months later. Btw, True Pet also requested records from ASEC. Late one Saturday night, we had no idea what was happening to our dog so we took her back to the ER (big white bldg). They said it might take days to diagnose her and that she might not survive that period. We knew we didn't want her to die alone in a metal crate so we did what we believed was the humane and unselfish thing to do even though it absolutely crushed us to have to do it. We're still recovering from her passing. I did an enormous amount of research and it is clear to me that she went into congestive heart failure. All of the symptoms were spot on from what I read. I never heard anything from ASEC except a call to make another appointment (for a dog who was no longer alive). I composed a brief email telling them that she had passed away and that I never heard anything from them. So here's the bottom line. I guess what we're all seeing is the corporatization of the veterinary business and I don't mean that in a nice way. I'm old enough to remember when you had a family vet who handled all of your pet's issues. There were no specialists. One guy/gal did it all. They called you. They stayed in touch. They helped you. They cared. My advice is to find a smaller vet office where there is more personal attention and where they actually communicate with each other in the office. You can use one of the larger 24/7 ER's as emergencies arise. I've refrained from using the names of any doctors as well as the name of my dog. The point of this review is not to assess blame. I want to caution other pet owners that they need to make conscious decision about what kind of care they want from their vet over the life of your furry loved one and to choose your vet carefully. We live in a rapidly changing world and much of it is not for the better. As for us, we are really missing our baby. She was a total lover. I live in a building filled with somewhat remote people yet one neighbor broke into tears when I told her what happened. Another one hugged me in the elevator. I couldn't believe it! Our girl loved everyone and everyone loved her. She went everywhere with us, traveled with us and lived a great life. In the end, I guess that's the best we could ask for. If you read this, give your fur babies a kiss for me tonight.

I cannot say enough positive things about Dr. Downing and the oncology department. We brought our dog Cabo to VCA when he was diagnosed with lymphoma because they came highly recommended from multiple friends who had their dogs treated for cancer there as well (I work with the rescue dog community). They squeezed us in as his condition was urgent and he was declining rapidly and had been placed on a feeding tube. When we arrived everyone at the front desk knew his name and was expecting us. Dr Downing saved his life and gave us another wonderful month with him despite how advanced his cancer was. He was his old self for that time, and her focus was always on ensuring quality of life. Her entire team was so caring and compassionate which made all the difference during such a difficult time. He actually loved his appointments and would start wagging his tail when we pulled into the parking lot. We're incredibly grateful to the entire team at VCA. They're in a class of their own.

Worth noting: Expect big urgent care invoices and be prepared to ask questions, line by line, to make sure you understand the costs and necessary treatment. I think every pet parent can agree that the most important thing for our fluffy little ones is proper care and love from the professionals treating them. This is why I'm rating this place a 5 star. They were all terrific people and took wonderful care of my dog (and me!) during a high stress day. P.S. They also offer coffee and snacks and that was a lifesaver after being there for 3.5 hours.

When I got there, vet techs were waiting for me. Some of them took her back, and one took my story on what happened, and her symptoms. I had to call Pet Poison Line so they could tell the vets how to treat her-that's fine-and they wanted to do a full workup on her since she is 12. I said that's fine, that's what insurance is for. It was about 11pm when I was sent home to rest while they took care of her. At about two, they called me to tell me that she survived the nightshade poisoning, but they had found a thicker spot in her intestines in the x-ray, and they wanted to do follow-up images in the morning, so I got another estimate for them to keep her til the next day and run another round of x-rays and do an ultrasound. She stayed and I went back to sleep. In the morning, a very kind vet whose name I don't remember called me and went over what is happening and why that spot could be there. She gave me advice on how to proceed after today. She asked what food my cat eats so they could give it to her there too. Wait until their pets are seriously suffering just to be seen and get medication they already rely on? There seems to be a complete lack of urgency, compassion, and accountability. Removing his badly damaged upper canine teeth left him in major pain and distress. We were referred to Dr. Hobson at MASH. From the very first phone call, the entire team was incredibly kind and helpful. They got us in for a consultation within just a few days. Everyone -- from the office staff to the techs -- was compassionate and reassuring during a very stressful time. They took Vinny in back so Dr. Hobson could thoroughly examine him and review the records my regular vet had already sent over. When Dr. Hobson came into the exam room, he was patient, caring, and took the time to explain everything clearly. Vinny was in very bad shape and couldn't wait for the next available surgery slot the following week. Dr. Hobson consulted with his dental team, and they all graciously agreed to stay late that night to perform the emergency surgery Vinny needed. I left Vinny in their capable hands for the next 10 hours. The vet tech team kept me updated the entire time with texts and pics -- a huge shout-out to Arlene for her wonderful support! I picked Vinny up at 8pm (after hours). He underwent extensive corrective surgery, and it was a huge success! Dr. Hobson even personally followed up the next day to check on Vinny's progress. That level of dedication and exceptional care is rare these days. Several weeks later, Vinny has made a full recovery and is back to his happy self. The drive to MASH isn't the most convenient and the area isn't the best, but it is 100% worth it for the quality of care our pets receive. I cannot thank Dr. Hobson and his outstanding team enough -- especially Arlene, Jonathan, and Tika -- for going so far above and beyond for my boy Vinny. If your pet needs advanced dental care, look no further. This team is truly exceptional!

I spent almost $1,700 here for my dog's pneumonia treatment, and unfortunately it did not help at all. They kept my dog for 5 hours, and after everything, I still had to bring her to a different hospital so she could get proper care. There was also a problem with my dog's prescription. They prescribed a medication that wasn't even available until Monday. I was honestly willing to let that pass because I understand things happen, but the rude attitude from the receptionist was too much. I understand vet hospitals can get busy, but clients who are worried about their pets deserve compassion, professionalism, and proper communication -- especially after spending that much money. Very disappointed with both the service and the overall experience.

We have been to LBAE a number of times for our Golden Retriever Byron…read more The latest incident required surgery for an obstruction. As always, Byron received great care and has recovered. Dr Ravi did the surgery and we appreciated the follow-up. Dr Lee and Dr Kerr also provided great support. Because Byron has IBD his symptoms could have been dismissed as part of his condition. We were lucky that when Dr Lee suggested an xray, we took her advice. Everyone at Long Beach Animal Emergency was amazing.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel it's important to share my experience…read more While the veterinarian appeared knowledgeable and competent, the overall experience was disappointing because of the lack of compassion, communication, and customer service. From the moment I arrived, my dog was taken to the back without anyone asking me to explain what was wrong or allowing me to be part of the initial assessment. My dog remained in the back for about an hour and a half before anyone spoke with me. I was eventually brought into an exam room--without my dog-and presented with a treatment plan and an estimate. As a pet owner, I expected to be involved much sooner and to have someone take the time to listen before making recommendations. I spent nearly five hours at the clinic, yet very little of that time involved communication or updates. Most of it was simply waiting, wondering what was happening with my dog. The payment policy was equally frustrating. You're given a low-end and high-end estimate, but you're required to pay the highest amount up front before any treatment is provided. When the original services aren't all used, it feels like other charges are added to bring the total closer to what you've already paid. Whether that's the intent or not, it leaves the impression that the estimate is structured to ensure customers pay the highest amount possible. The one bright spot was one veterinary technician who was kind, gentle, and genuinely caring with the animals. She showed the empathy and compassion that I wish had been reflected throughout the entire clinic. I also noticed that many negative reviews receive the same generic response asking customers to call the office. Respectfully, this experience wasn't the result of a simple misunderstanding-it reflected the overall way the clinic operates. I won't be returning unless I have absolutely no other choice. Veterinary care should combine medical expertise with compassion, communication, and respect for both pets and their owners. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here.

My dog was well taken care of and she eventually made a full recovery. What I really appreciated the most here was the genuine care Dr.Qiu and Halyna showed for my dog during her treatment. The nurses, technicians, and other veterinarians we interacted with were kind, caring, and professional. They treated both my cat and my family with empathy, and I am grateful for that. Unfortunately, my experience with Dr. Howard was extremely disappointing. I found her to be rude, impatient, and dismissive. Every question felt like an inconvenience, and instead of feeling supported, I felt rushed and judged during an already heartbreaking situation. I understand that veterinarians have demanding jobs and see difficult cases every day. But for pet owners, these are not just cases, they are family members. A little kindness and empathy can make a huge difference when someone is facing the possible loss of a beloved pet. Afterward, we sought a second opinion from another veterinarian. After reviewing my cat's case, that veterinarian raised concerns about some of Dr. Howard's medical decisions and approach to treatment. Hearing that only reinforced the doubts I already had about the care we received. I would not recommend Dr. Howard to pet owners who are looking for a veterinarian who communicates with empathy and patience.

My regular vet was booked and as the animals needed immediate care, I was referred to this facility. I have been very pleased with everything here both times. I highly recommend for your urgent care needs. The place is very clean. The front desk staff, technician and veterinarian are all very kind, calm and attentive. The cost for urgent care services both times was reasonable and lower than what I expected. They itemized costs, educated me on the medication options, answered my questions and respected my choices. They did not try to up-sell me on additional services, etc. They will send a report to your main veterinarian regarding the visit & treatment, etc., and suggest you follow-up with your main vet, as well. This is walk-in only (website is incorrect) and both times we were seen right away. There is a small, easy access parking lot behind the building - the office entrance is in parking area. Their hours are Noon-10pm, Monday-Friday - per website.

The staff, from front desk all the way back to support staff and then the incredible vet himself were amazing. They were extremely compassionate and kind to Junior and us. We had to leave him there for roughly 6-7 hours for care and upon picking him up at 9:30 pm I knew the moment I interacted again with staff and saw my boy that he had received outstanding care and was in the best place possible with the best people. Thank you to each and every one of you that took care of my boy. I would 100% recommend this office for your veterinary needs and have found the only place I will be bringing our fur babies back to!!!
