Was referred to Dr Downing after my 14 year-old terrier, Raisin, was diagnosed with lymphoma. Sue and her team clearly and compassionately communicated the prognosis, treatment protocol and costs. The treatment had immediate effect and 9 months later Raisin is still in remission, active, eating well and living his best life. You'd never know he was ill! My experience with ASEC has been first class from the reception team, vet techs and Dr Downing. I would give a zero if I could. I have an elderly neighbor who became very ill. He was taken away by police and ambulance. He has two small yorkie. The dogs needed to be tended to. I needed to get their toenails cut. Two 4 lb dogs took the technician less than 5 minutes and after the fact I was told it would be $65 for a toenail trim!!!! I had no choice but to pay they had the dogs and you can't exactly give toenails back. I called and spoke to a manger that said well that is their prices. They have got to be kidding!!!!!! The most careless vet experience I've ever had. I dropped my dog off at 3:15 pm today for her 3:30 appointment bc a part of her tail got cut off in a door. She lost quite a bit of blood. They told us to stay in the parking lot and wait as they took her in. It's 11 pm now 7 hours later and they STILL HAVEN'T EVEN SEEN MY DOG which means she has been sitting in the back alone for 7 hours. That means she hasn't drank water, gone to the bathroom, or eaten or even seen a human being for 7 hours. They just left her there all alone. I've called every two hours to see if she's been seen and the front desk just dismisses me. Made the call to finally just pull her out and going to take her to another hospital in the morning. Truly unbelievable, what kind of hospital is this? very unfortunate that the negative reviews corroborate the experience i had with this VCA... considering that they are the primary vet ER around town it's very disheartening to know that they show no concern or care to animals that need it. read more

Dr. Kristin Barncord in Cardiology is the best. She saved my senior dog's life when she went into heart failure in 2018. She was always accessible by phone and never pressured or rushed me into anything. Because of her and the whole team at ASEC, my Chloe lived another 5 years before her passing. Brought my dog in because he was visibly limping and we could tell there was a splinter in his front right foot. Vet shaves his leg and sees a bulge and recommends she probe for foxtail only to say she couldn't find it. Later I'm doing research and it shows the best way to locate foxtail is through ultrasound. When we asked we found out that they didn't because they didn't have anyone to operate the ultrasound. It seems they opted to sedate our dog and probe just to earn money whole thing costed $546. The worst part is the trauma it causes dogs. If you want human vets treating your dogs don't come h UPDATE The hospital commented below as you can see we emailed them and never heard a response. My little Grandma Tima started having seizures about 10 days ago and her doctor gave her phenobarbital, which was a nightmare, but didn't really stop the seizures but instead just calmed down the physical signs. She wouldn't paddle and shake like she did at first but there were still some twitches and collapses. I took her into ASEC on saturday morning and we we're taken care of immediately. Dr. Dolance came and talked to me within maybe 20 minutes and spent a long time with me explaining everything. She changed Timas medication to Keppra instead which has been a huge improvement. And she discovered some other issues that I was already worried about but her Veterinarian had failed to discover. What I liked the most was that she was worked out a plan that I was comfortable with and told me what things I needed to worry about and also what things I shouldn't worry about, which overall calmed me down a lot! My experience with Veterinarians over the past 2 years (since I've had Tima, my first dog ever) has been that they aren't always knowledgeable, ethical, or honest and might even try to scare you into paying tons for a bunch of tests. Dr. Dolance was not like that at all. I really wish she could be Tima's primary doctor. Everyone was super nice and understanding and reacted to my needs. There were no: unfortunately we can't do that, or she is with someone else now, or just have a 5 hour seat and we will try.... We were there for about 3.5 hours, but it went fast because it was necessary and there was no waiting involved. Highly recommend this place! read more

I took my dog here because of one of his nail was broken. If you love your pet, please please DO NOT take it here. I want to let all of you know what will happen, if you make a wrong decision like me to take your pet here. First, they will do whatever they can to charge you A LOT OF MONEY. The doctor is unprofessional, she told me that my dog needs to have deeper examinations, since his bone might have some problems as well. I know that is a normal way to over charge innocent people. So I do not let them to do so. What's happened next, the doctor told me " Oh, I checked it again, I can just remove his nail." See, if the so-called deeper examinations are necessary, why the doctor can simply cancel it ? Okay, the most ridiculous part is why I see the bill. When I first walked in, they told me that my dog's nail is not serious, so they will only charge the exam fee $107. However! I was truly shocked when I saw the bill. They charge me $110 exam fee( just for the doctor to simply look at your dog and talk to you, do not include any professional exam), $77 for bandage, $ 22 for plastic collar.AND SOME UNKNOWN FEE. I paid total $ 483 for my dog's broken nail, and again just one nail. I think you definitely love your pet, so you might think that if your pet can get better care of its illness, I will pay for it. BUT, NO! I was hoping my dog gets better after I spend that much money on his nail.Unfortunately, he is still bleeding! ( I took him to see the doctor on June 25) What made me so mad is because I just called them to let them know the situation. I think the doctor HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY TO CHECK MY DOG AGAIN. I was out of the country with my dog being boarded in LA. He's a senior dog and his health suddenly deteriorated while I was away. My sister brought him in to ASEC since my normal vet said he needs to go to an ER at this point. Dr. Melissa Ong was very thorough in explaining treatment options, cost, and quality of life. She was extremely patient and kind (as I was not composed and over FaceTime). It was a very rough decision to let go of my dog and Dr. Ong was there the entire time. The level of care and compassion will always be remembered. Even meeting my dog for the first time, she knew one of his favorite spots to be pet in his final moments. We live in Orange County, but when our rescue French Bulldog, Milo, was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor, we drove to Dr Chow since he was highly recommended by our vet. He did a brilliant job on the surgery, and successfully removed the cancer. A couple years later, Milo's IVDD caused him to become completely paralyzed in his hind legs. He was in so much pain and we were terrified that he may never walk again. We once again came to Dr Chow, who performed spinal surgery on our beloved dog - who was pain-free immediately, and soon made a FULL RECOVERY. It feels like a miracle, and we are so grateful for the additional years we've had with our precious little guy thanks solely to Dr Chow's skilled care. This review is long overdue. Read all the way and you'll know why they don't care about the last moments that you could have with your dog. My little dog was a patient of Dr Cohen. She had tracheal collapse for the last few months of her life for which she was treated and was doing ok. Then suddenly over few days her cough worsened and she became short of breath and lethargic and I brought her back thinking it's her tracheal collapse. I had to hospitalize her right away because her chest X-ray showed a right white lung. Long story short, they didn't know and I still don't know what was the reason of her white lung. Maybe cancer maybe pneumonia, although her X-ray of 4 months prior didn't show anything besides a tracheal collapse. My problem with this hospital is that I had to go out of town for 3 days. The day of my trip, I went to see my little baby and she wasn't better but not worse. I decided to go for my trip and told them to call me if she starts going south and I'll take the first flight back. The next day I called them and my dog was still the same. The next morning I received a call from another doctor saying that my dog overnight was going down and they had to start her on oxygen and that she's in a very bad shape. Not only they didn't call me the night when my dog got worse, but I asked her if I could FaceTime with my dog so that she could hear and see me, and she said no we don't have FaceTime. I said in the whole hospital not one person has an iPhone for me to be able to see my little baby and that she could see me? And she said no we can't FaceTime. I took the next flight back but by the time I was in the airplane, my brother who fortunately got to the hospital called me saying she's passing away. I arrived at ASEC holding my couple hours dead little dog. This hospital was good when it was ASEC but since VCA bought them, they became a big corporation with no feeling for dogs or dog parents. Since then I changed my doctor for my new puppy and prefer going to a small hospital where vets care about their patients. read more

I unfortunately took my cat here at the beginning of the month because no other vet at the time was available to help him. He is a 4 year old male who had urinary blockage. He was seen by Dr Wolf who is the WORST vet I have ever dealt with in my life. First he wanted to charge me almost $10,000 to keep my cat for 3 days which he did not even need to stay overnight at all. I had a cat previously have urinary blockage a couple years ago and I knew what to expect and how to deal with it. I told Dr Wolf I can not afford $10,000 so they tried to have me keep him 2 days and charge me over $6,000 and if he stayed one day it would be $4,000 but the new days starts at midnight and it was already after 3pm by this time so that is ridiculous. They wanted to keep him on IV fluids and charge me HOURLY. They even called the vet I had an appointment with the next day to tell them that he needs all this care that he did not even need and they canceled that appointment. So then he talked to me about euthanizing him. My cat is 4. I was not going to kill him because I can't afford their ridiculous fees. I've taken other pets of mine to emergency for far worse things and was never charged like that. They did absolutely nothing but an ultrasound and came up with all these lies about what he'll need. I asked them to just unblock him and then I'll take him to another vet for the appointment tomorrow to have them continue care. But no that is when he insisted on calling them and getting my appointment canceled. What makes me the most angry is when a vet I had called earlier in the day called me by the best of luck in the world at the moment Dr Wolf decided we should kill my cat to tell me to bring him in before they close at 5pm and it was already 4pm at this time. Dr Wolf and the terrible staff at VCA once again tried calling that vet and tried to prevent me from leaving. They would rather my cat die than me leave with him and not pay their ridiculous fees. I had to cause a complete scene for them to bring my cat back out. I had to threaten to sue them if he does which I would have. They then charged me $541 to do absolutely nothing for him. He refused to just unblock him and let me leave. He refused to save his life. I ended up being able to leave with only 20 minutes to get tot the other vet who when I got there in the lobby checked him out and said he can tell by feeling it that it is not ruptured and right away took him back to unblock him not worried about me paying a deposit to save his life. You could tell the next vet I went to actually cared about animals. He unblocked him, put the catheter in, drained his abdomen and gave him antibiotics to start taking. I got to leave with my cat that night and brought him back the next day to be given fluids while I was at work. That with multiple check ups after and blood work and everything was under $2000. The next vet even called me over the Labor Day weekend to make sure my cat was doing well with the catheter. Dr Wolf though tried to prevent this as much as he could and traumatized me in the process. I have never felt so desperate or sad for any of my animals like I did when dealing with that trash vet Dr Wolf. He lied about so much that my cat did not even need and tried so hard to prevent me leaving with him. If I had stayed there my cat would have been put down by them and he would not be with me right now cuddled up and fully healthy again. This "pet hospital" should be ashamed of themselves and are all terrible incompetent lying jerks. $541 to do NOTHING but traumatize me and try and kill my cat. If you care about your animals go to any other emergency. I don't even trust VCA anywhere after this. I'm still upset that they rather euthanize a beloved animal for $200 rather than let me take him to another vet who would end up saving his life. I thank God that other vet called when he did. read more

Hola familia I ended up taking my little dude here again (second visit - forgot to post review last time) because of a scratched cornea. Seems lil' homey cannot keep his face out of the brush so there it is. Did a walk-in this morning and the service was GREAT. The staff was super nice and friendly. We were moved directly into a "patient" room and the nurse came in moments thereafter. When the vet came in about 15-20 minutes later, she was kind, patient and thorough. She recommended running some tests and that was that. When he came back, she answered my questions without rushing and even arranged for a techinician to come in and show me how to administer the eye medication - lord knows I need help because he's like a greased pig with these sorts of things. Granted, I was willing to pay extra because this was emergency care but the charges were more than reasonable and all I really wanted to ensure was that my buddy would be on the mend quickly. The care that my pug, Lily, received at ASEC was exceptional. Dr Zhang was compassionate, but literal and thorough in her explanations of the tests they were running, so I, as a layperson, could make informed decisions for my beloved pet. The staff was amazing too. Right now, the entire veterinary system in Los Angeles seems to be suffering the worst side effects of Covid, but ASEC has got their act together and their professionalism and human kindness in tact. The place is very clean and the staff and vets are very nice. I would come here again if my puppy had an emergency afterhours, but they are pricey and I think a lot of the procedures aren't necessary. My 4 month old puppy had been throwing up quite a bit, and being my first dog, I freaked out. Took him in to ASEC and they helped us right away. After checking him out, they recommended some procedures and gave me an estimate before doing anything. I opted out of most the recommendations due to price. We were there for two hours and not sure exactly what the problem was, but they had me put him on a bland diet with Pepcid AC. Brought my cat who had urethral blockage here on Labor Day and while I do believe their prices are exorbitant and they seriously overcharge, I'm unbelievably grateful to the veterinarians, and staff here. I had called ahead and when I got there it was the same receptionist who had answered the phone. Knowing how dangerous urethral blockage can be in male cats, she took him back right away, while I filled out paperwork, despite the fact that there were others waiting ahead of me. Dr Tovar and one other vet who's name I can't remember were extremely caring and compassionate and I truly believe that they gave my cat the best care possible while he was there. Under normal circumstances I definitely would not recommend coming here simply because of the overly high prices. But in emergency situations and/or if you find yourself needing to take your pet to the vet on a weekend or after regular business hours rest assured that they will be well taken care of here by the amazing staff. read more

I have mixed feelings about the place. They are such a large organization. Sometimes that personal touch gets lost. But for the most part, this place is great. The multiple locations and the ability to share records are great. Getting an appointment can be difficult, mostly due to the pressures placed on vet clinics by COVID-19. Our small dog needs ongoing care for a heart problem. We've seen a few cardiologists and the care has been great. They explained everything and are mindful of how attached you are emotionally to your pet. We have better luck getting appointments with them than our primary vet. read more

It'a taken me years to write this and I can't even bring myself to fully write this in the detail it deserves. But as my dog is starting to have issues, I am starting to wonder where i need to take her for when emergencies happen and the thought of taking her to ASEC makes me sick. My cat was supposed to go in for an MRI. I didn't have a lot of money a few years ago because I was a student and I let them know that paying for the MRI was a big deal to me, but I wanted to see why she was having dizzy spells. She started to get dizzy and fall a lot. She was perfectly fine for the most part that day. I remember taking a photo of her in the car on our way to ASEC. The light was on her just right. I cry as I write this, I just can't get over it. I never once thought I'd never see her alive again. I dropped her off and they said I'll be picking her back up in 4-6 hours. I didn't even say a proper goodbye, it wasn't that big of a deal. I just thought she was getting a more indepth x-ray. It was summer, I went home and walked to the beach. I got a call from Doctor Cohen just an hour later saying he was going to have to put her down. Wait. Why? I was pretty much told, she had a tumor on her forehead above her nose and he hit it when going in for the MRI somehow and she was going to wake up in so much pain and I didn't have a lot of money, so even when she did wake up, I wouldn't be able to afford to treat her. I told him to wait. Stupid me. I was so naive and i didn't know what to do and it was just too much and i didn't want her to be in pain. I don't have family, this cat was all I had. I ran home barefoot from the beach like the world was about to end. I was frantic. I raced across the 405, got to ASEC and she was on the table still put to sleep. I opted to put her down. I killed her because ASEC told me I didn't have money to help her. I just felt powerless. I felt embarrassed for not having enough money and as a result I didn't even question ASEC. I just let it happen. With sand still on my body from being at the beach, I stood there as Doctor Cohen put her down. My beautiful friend, just gone. What I would do to redo that day. She was fine. She should never have woken up in pain. I didn't really get what an MRI was back then. It's a scan on the brain and head. What did Dr. Cohen mean when he said they hit her tumor? Why ASEC, would a cat be in pain after an MRI when she wasn't in pain when I brought her there? My cat was my whole life. 4th grade to college. She was 13 and had no reason to die that day. She was sick, but she shouldn't have died that day. I wasn't ready. What happened was wrong. I can't even fully express what happened. It's still just too hard. read more

After my beloved bunny ate part of a semi-poisonous house plant, another local vet referred me to ASEC. I called them quickly and although they were not comfortable in dealing with the ingestion over the phone, the receptionist who picked up quickly and kindly referred me to the Animal Poison Control hotline, and gave me all the information about what to expect when calling them in terms of possible future treatment and price. The short of it: Dr. Betty Chow (Internal Medicine) is the most thorough, caring, and skilled veterinarian I've ever encountered. The long of it: I've had 11 dogs over the past 23 years, and I've had lots of experience with LA area vets. The vets and the techs at ASEC are hands down the best. I have NEVER had an experience with a vet here that left me feeling unsure. They are the best of the best. And the techs are so friendly, compassionate, and helpful. Having said that, I have to give special props to Dr. Chow. She is truly gifted. She helped keep my lab Lola happy and healthy through issue after issue, and I'm convinced she gave her an extra bonus 1-2 years of life with her careful attention to detail. We spent some time here yesterday and are so relieved to know such a great emergency vet is so close to home! Our puppy started having yellow discharge from her eyes and upon calling our vet we realized we needed to be seen ASAP. They referred us to ASEC and we had a great experience. The front desk staff was friendly, we were immediately taken back to a room and were seen by a vet tech and then the vet almost immediately! Dr McEvilly was sweet, attentive to all my concerns and knowledgeable. He did the examination right in front of us (not sure what other people are talking about it happening in the back?) We were able to get her meds there and get her on the mend in no time. Cost wise it's honestly less than I expected. We left spending less than $200 for the visit and two different antibiotics (normal vet is at least $75). They were upfront with cost, not charging anymore than they let us know ahead of time. We will hopefully not have to come back but would recommend if you need an emergency vet! read more

If you suspect your beloved pet is in trouble- GO HERE. My 14 toy poodle was having difficulty breathing. What started off as heavy snoring turned into very labored breathing. I took her to Modern Animal whom diagnosed my dog with allergies and gave antihistimanes. However her condition got worse. In a span of 3 days I brought my dog back to Modern Animal for a series of X-rays, bloodwork, etc ($$$) but no resolution of the breathing as they couldn't figure out the problem. After a night of my dog coughing and barely breathing, I was in tears at 2 AM thinking she was going to suffocate and die. First thing the next morning I went back to Modern Animal begging them for no more tests but to resolve the problem however they told me they CANNOT perform surgery. They can only CONSULT and if surgery is needed- they can refer a surgeon, which would take more days. Pissed off that I had wasted all this time while my dog is literary dying- I immediately I left and drove my dog straight to ASEC. Even though it's COVID, ASEC was beyond organized and efficient. I parked, called the number listed in the parking spot and told them the situation. In 2 min a nurse came and took my dog away. Within 15 min she was preliminary seen, diagnosed and placed in an oxygen cage so she could breathe. Our doctor- Dr Wu- called me constantly updating me of the situation while the staff monitored her. Within hours she was in surgery and they removed what was the issue- a large lesion in her throat. She stayed overnight in the hospital and Dr Wu called me before leaving for the night to update me once more so I could sleep at night and be assured. She was so patient to answer all my questions. By the next morning Dr Wu called with a final update and went through the discharge information. With each step, the ASEC staff called within minutes to update me in terms of costs and review them before proceeding, to make sure I was ok with each charge. Like other reviewers I can't say enough about Dr Wu and the ASEC staff. Dr Wu is very knowledgeable, detail oriented, professional and caring. Unlike vets who are trying to make money off of you, ASEC tries to make it as cost efficient as possible and is concerned more about the well being of your pet. I cannot recommend ASEC enough!! If I could give them 10 stars, I would. My dog had a grapefruit sized tumor in his spleen, so Dr. Chow removed his spleen. The recovery went very well. I think it's very important that your pet stay overnight after a major surgery; some vets don't do this. I knew that if something had gone wrong immediately after his procedure, he was in good hands with the hospital. Dr. Chow is an A+ surgeon and is very thorough in explaining the process, the risks and outcome. He is patient and answers all of your questions. Also, my regular vet strongly recommended ASEC because they're the best of the best. Also, even though during these times veterinary hospitals are extremely busy, I was able to schedule the consultation and surgery with ASEC very quickly. Dr. Chow is a Board Certified Surgeon. We found a cat on the highway and took him to this hospital. They charged us $245 as soon as we arrived. Unfortunately the lost car didn't make it. The doctor refunded the $245. I'm so sad we lost the cat. Appreciate the help of the vet. Thank so. You guys are amazing. read more

The vet tech was so kind and it was obvious how much she cared about animals, and helping us to feel secure that our baby would be okay. Sent us home with clear instructions about how to help our pup and what to look for that would mean we needed to come back. read more

It's rare that I write yelp reviews, but I want to help pet owners by sharing my thoughts about my dog's oncology care with Dr. Sue Downing and his subsequent emergency care at VCA ASEC. My dog was diagnosed with lymphoma just prior to Christmas. He had many other issues , including IBD and some heart enlargement and long standing spinal disease which had all been stable and managed successfully prior to the diagnosis. He received the first dose of chemo and got a fever which was resolved. I had been told that there were usually never any reactions to this first chemo drug. My dog's intense reactions maybe should have been a sign for Dr. Downing that my dog wasn't really fit for chemo. Nevertheless, Dr. Downing then gave vincristine and he was dead within 5 days. It triggered his entire body to react and to ultimately shut down. Here's what I want to share: 1. Chemo can cause serious reactions even though oncologists downplay possibility of serious resulting complications, as Sue Downing had. In fact, the emergency doctor said he sees serious adverse reactions regularly. Dr. Downing never made a serious, clear warning that a delicate dog like mine with many "co-morbidities" could die from chemo treatment. 2. Dr. Downing assured me that, even though it was the holidays and she'd be out of the office for 2 weeks, she would be very accessible to me and my dog. In the end,, Dr. Downing never contacted me once to check on my dog even though she had been informed that my dog had come to emergency dehydrated, inappetent and very sick. The only time she called was a few days after he had died at ASEC emergency. Poor quality of care and follow up, in my opinion. Very uncaring and unprofessional. I CHOSE DR. DOWNING BECAUSE EVERYONE THINKS SHE'S VERY NICE AND I WANTED THE BENEFIT OF HER DECADES PRACTICING MEDICINE. HAD SHE BEEN MORE THOUGHTFUL ABOUT MY DOG'S DELICATE CONDITION AND RELAYED A REALISTIC ASSESSMENT OF TREATMENT RISK TO ME, CHEMO WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHOSEN. WHILE MY DOG LIKELY WOULD HAVE DIED 1-4 MONTHS LATER, HE WOULD HAVE DIED A HUMANE DEATH AT HIS HOME PROCEEDED BY MANY GOOD DAYS AS HE WAS NOT SICK AT ALL AT THE TIME OF DIAGNOSIS. INSTEAD, HE DIED HOOKED UP TO TUBES AND SHAVED ALL OVER HIS BODY AND GASPING FOR AIR IN AN OXYGEN TENT. PATHETIC END TO HIS LIFE AND A VERY TRAGIC RESULT FOR ME. As for the ASEC EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT, they were slow to respond to fast evolving health conditions, were not very communicative and made me wait huge time periods to see my dog when I visited. One day, about 2 days before he died, I waited over 2 hours and still couldn't see my dog that day. As stated in other reviews, the front desk staff was arrogant, cold and rude with a few notable exceptions. Nothing is ideal in such a hard scenario, but VCA and ASEC VCA don't get strong marks from me and they are radically expensive. I've owned dogs all my life and this is not the super high quality care that I've found elsewhere . read more

ONE STAR ONLY FOR THE FRONT DESK STAFF. Paid a hefty $5000.00 vet bill for knee surgery only to be treated like GARBAGE by the front desk staff this morning. More specifically, LINDSEY at the front desk is RUDE, DISMISSIVE and has ZERO client service skills. Don't expect any eye contact when you're asking her a question because what you're saying obviously isn't important. What you can expect is a BLANK and ANNOYED look on her face coupled with CURT non-answer-answers. HEY LINDSEY, Inhale the carton of unfiltered bootleg cigs BEFORE your shift next time! Maybe then you won't be such a snarky b$&ch. HEY MANAGEMENT, The outwardly facing front desk staff is better suited for back office. Like waaay in the back towards the recycle bins. read more

This establishment is not a pet hospital but a money hungry chain business first and foremost. Avoid this place. VCA once a publicly traded company is now OWNED by Mars Inc. a private company that manufactures products such as Snickers/ candy and PET FOOD. Mars Inc. generated $35 BILLION in annual revenue (2019). They bought VCA for $9.1 BILLION in 2017. The employees here don't love animals - they are business people - so their ultimate goal is to make you stay and take your money running tests and doing aggressive treatments for as long as possible or until you can't afford it anymore. The demeanor of the staff and doctors here is cold and calculating. I took incredibly great care of my dog (purchased from a reputable AKC certified breeder). When my dog fell ill VCA they did tons of tests on him - poked, shaved, prodded him, he had tubes stuck up his nose. He was a Frankenstein dog by the time they were through with him and I had no other choice but to put him down because I could no longer afford to pay to keep him alive. Even after my dogs passing, I had to chase down the doctor, called 3 different times during the course of a week to get my dogs final test results. They blamed my messages not getting through on a new system that they adopted months ago that didn't relay messages properly. Perhaps the VCA needs to have better employee training for an establishment that charges people thousands of dollars. I HIGHLY doubt they don't have enough money for basic employee systems training in a hospital setting- when you're dealing with life/death situations. Also as a forewarning the doctors are trained here to mess with your emotions- one of their favorite business driving phrases is "I have good news and I have bad news." All of the professionals I met with here used this phrase and I also overheard other doctors using this phrase with other pet parents. One day my dog was doing ok in certain areas, then suffering in other ways - constantly up and down. Really great way to try and up sell aggressive treatments and incite fear in people when they are already in a fragile state. I am sure the doctors hit their monthly revenue targets here month over month with the way they mistreat the animals and charge customers. I am convinced that my dog fell ill because of a specific treat he consumed- this was also my doctor's best guess being the strongest "potential" cause of my dogs illness. However apparently the ONE lab in the entire United States that could administer the necessary tests for my dog which would prove that the treat would have been the cause " lost " one of the samples so they came back with inconclusive results after having to wait 3 weeks to get results in the first place. They refunded me for this one test- though this was supposed to be the test that was going to give me all the answers. The whole thing could be a scheme....not sure about anything because I have no way to prove the samples were even sent. Or perhaps the samples were conveniently "lost" because the VCA thought that the treat my dog consumed could have been manufactured by their parent company Mars Inc. and they did not want to end up getting their own parent company in trouble. This is my most educated guess. The common theme throughout my entire case with VCA ASEC from start to the end was constantly feeling uncertain about my case and panicked. Ultimately for professionals that have likely seen hundreds or thousands of cases combined, they're horrible at drawing concrete conclusions in my case. After I posted this review they sent me the final report blatantly lying claiming that the treat was the " only " food item he was consuming for 2 weeks leading up to his death which is false. Additionally, their itemized billing process is also shady - no one will answer any question at the front until they go into the back office multiple times and confirm with whoever is dictating the cost of all the itemized invoices with some haphazard logic that normal people probably won't take much time to study because they are in distress over their animal. The average person doesn't know how much serum for a small/ medium/ large dog costs... $20? $200? $2000? Just put whatever number you feel like that day to hit your weekly/monthly/quarterly revenue goal. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMAL. * Please note: I am not attacking one person in particular- this was just my experience with the entire establishment and its employees/ how they are trained as a whole. I do think doctors here are trained to administer the most aggressive and often times seemingly unnecessary treatments possible. This hospitals #1 focus is making money for the privately owned Mars Inc. corporation- customer service and genuinely caring for their patients is not their focus. read more
