I've came in twice and both times I sat down with a menu and was never asked for my order. After 30 minutes I finally got up and asked if I can order. I guess it's not a sit down despite the restaurant seating. (Order at the front and pay if you want your order put in.) I then waited another 30 minutes for my order. Seems like he prioritizes online orders than customers who sit down. It's a one man show so expect a 45 minute to an hour long wait even when not busy. My advice to better the business is to hire employees and to greet each customer / tell them how they can order, instead of letting them sit around. I would like to give another chance because it's a small local business so if you have time still stop by. read more

Long Beach finally have an all vegan sushi place. Yes! This is not close to where we live but the drive was worth it. The presentation of the food(plating) is top notch. The sushi rolls and tacos are tasty. We really love it. Hubby said 'usually when the food comes out we would say sushi is here. But with this one we say WOW, so beautiful, cannot wait to try it.' I had to hurry taking pictures because we were salivating over Shrimp Tempura Toll, Rainbow Roll, Dragon Roll, and Crispy FISHLESS taco. There is ample parking in the street. Did not taste vegan at all, and that was the beauty of this beautifully crafted selection of dishes that I ordered. Everything was so beautiful I really felt bad about eating it. Welp sorry but we need our veggies lol so there were no surviving dishes in this healthy situation. The food was delicious! I ordered the crunch roll, rainbow roll, and the red dragon roll. They did not disappoint, I have to say the red dragon was my favorite! I also got the spicy edamame and they were yummy, wish it had more of a lime flavor to them but over all delicious. The food took about 30-35 min to be served but there was only one chef working and it was honestly worth the wait. I've heard great things about the spider roll. Def trying it next time :) read more

Truly artistic vegan sushi takes time and skill to make. I am so tired of those conventional sushi places that serve only a basic cucumber or avocado roll for those who don't eat fish. Don't let the location or bare bones shop fool you, The Vegan Castle wins for creativity, flavor balance, variety, and artistic presentation. The food is definitely 5 stars maybe even 10! This is a really special vegan sushi spot. I get why people drive from far. The combos are creative and delicious and anything with the fried enoki mushrooms - yum! Also the prices are totally reasonable. I drove down to escape the smoke from the fires and was just looking for something to eat. Next time I will intentionally drag a friend with me here. It seemed like a lot of local folk come in often b/c of the quality of the food and yes, Tony, is a talented and cool dude. He does, however, need help as other yelpers mentioned. Some customers came in and thought I worked there(?) and chastised me for not clearing the tables. Funny thing is that I was actually thinking about helping to clear tables, because Tony was clearly in the weeds, but then another guy, a regular, came in and beat me to it. I feel like this place would be good candidate for one of those restaurant reality shows where they do a makeover and help you with your business. Right now the castle-ness is all in the product. Walking in to the restaurant it looks either very run down or if they just bought place and haven't renovated yet. I've been wanting to come in for the longest time since the rolls look absolutely stunning and they were! What I believe to be the owner was there and was so friendly and helpful ! I went here for the first time yesterday really excited to try a sushi restaurant where I could eat anything on the menu! Street parking was convenient and the place was cute and clean. There is no table service, you order at the counter and pay in advance, then the food comes out when it's ready. So this is not a typical full-service sit-down restaurant. Also, I wouldn't recommend this place if you're in a hurry because each roll is a little work of art and when I went there was only one guy making everything himself. I ordered 4 rolls, they came out one at a time over the course of about a hour and a half. I wasn't in a hurry so it was fine, but you should know before you go that this isn't fast food! They offer kombuchas, sparkling waters, and bottled beers to enjoy while you wait. If I could recommend you try one thing, it's definitely the spider roll! When I go back that's the first thing I'm ordering. As one of the pickiest vegans on the planet ( or at least in Long Beach lol) I must say I've NEVER I mean NEVER been a sushi person prior to becoming vegan and even when I was overweight I wasn't BIG ( pun intended) on rice but tonight I went out the box and tried 4 of the vegan shrimp tempura rolls and I wasn't disappointed ( even though right now I feel a little guilty for having rice as it's been a preference of mine to stay away from it) Presentation is everything and well as you see how beautifully the rolls were placed and decorated, flavor was A1 but my true order was the seaweed salad, veggie tempura and a side of cabbage with shredded carrots ( not pictured because I transferred everything over to a bowl here at home and mixed it all together) that too was good. So the food here is fantastic. If I could rate this place only based on the food, I would give 5 stars. But sadly I have to take all factors into consideration. I found this place on instagram and decided to make the trip to try it (over an hour drive) because I love vegan food. Its in a seedy area with homeless people walking by. There is no restaurant parking whatsoever so you have to park on residential streets and its very hard to find a parking space. They also have no advertisement / banner / sign out front so its hard to even know where they are located. Our impression on the inside of the restaurant was not any better. It was at least 80 degrees inside and they have no air conditioning. The sun beats directly on their large window and heats the whole place up like an oven and they have put up no shades or blinds to prevent this. My friend and I were dripping sweat and had to ask for cups of ice to rub ice on our wrists and necks as we waited for our food. If you own a restaurant in socal, common sense is that it should have air conditioning. The tables were dusty. You order at the front register. When we made it clear it was our first time here, nothing was suggested to us / for us. We were not even offered a glass of water with our meal. You have to purchase bottled drinks. The music (or tv) from the place next door was blaring and came right through the wall and made the dining experience terribly unpleasant. Overall we would never come here again. Its a horrible dining atmosphere. Which is so sad, because the food is actually wonderful. If they got themselves into a decent location, with air conditioning, no blaring music coming through the wall, no homeless people out front, proper store signage on the building, parking for the customers... they would be very, very successful read more

When you walk in I got small mom and pop shop vibes but that only made me more excited. The experiences was like eating at someone's house whose mom could cook.
