This was FANTASTIC. It took 6 months to get here (once per month) - worth it! PARKING We showed up just after 12noon. Parking was easy two and a half blocks away. Pleasant neighborhood walk. Although the venue is accessible, I didn't see any placard parking. SERVICE FIRST TIME HERE. Of course everything is made to order, but also takes time - some of the specialty spots might take a little longer, but plenty of dogs to pet while waiting. (My mushrooms were pretty quick: more later) SEATING There are low picnic tables inside and outside. With accessible areas in most spots. Some of the areas are outside in the sun, while others are in the brewery for shade. FOOOD Like any "festival", this isn't the "health food" vegan event. FRIED, GLAZED, SAUCED, STUFFED. And I'm here for it. MAYAS COOKIES not just "gluten free" WHEAT FREE. YAY. Drunken Grandma - cuz the name. Bourbon raisins. Delicious. A little too sweet but it's FAIR FOOD. And it's a cookie. CENTRIC EATS Fried mushroom batter is spicy and peppery. Sooooo delicious by itself, but add their lemon pepper sauce. DANG even better. Mac and cheese. I love nouch and other vegan melts, but there's more to this - idk what but I'd eat a mixing bowl of their mac n cheese! Also super nice/friendly. After I picked up my order, there was a line 8 people deep! EL COMPA VEGANO My partner has this one. Reportedly: Good bit of lime. And decent taquitos. We make em at home. There's not a lot of wheatless+soyfree options But tons of GF, NF, SF (just not all in one) Fried fungi Definitely once a month. Run or bike the chandler bike path to get there. I've been exposed to cultures with a thousand years-long history of vegan cuisine traditions that are ecologically-referenced, palate-satisfying, and endlessly-innovative. The entire globe falls at the feet of Indian vegetarian food. I hesitated therefore to write what might be an unfairly stacked opinion on the vegan offerings in a North Hollywood weekly market. I shed my qualms quickly however because there's nothing that would draw me back to this contrived "alternative" to the meat-based fast foods of the USA. Firstly, the issue of misrepresentation: what American culture does best-- appropriate other cultures' foods, do a wan imitation using new-fangled technologically-produced ingredients, then push it out to the global consumer market as "superior". Common here are fake, lab-grown meat products that replce the American meat patty (recall that 50 million bison were exterminated to near extinction by whites to replace with English cattle ranching, and to starve tribal nations during the U.S. genocide/ecocide). Remakes of meat dishes like birria tacos using fake meats (like the jackfruit hijacked from the Asian rainforest and now to be commercially exploited to ruin those forests). There's a sense of a misplaced, sanctimonious tone to this place, about positing these foods as superior to the original products. I agree wholeheartedly that factory farmed meat and the overconsumption and waste of meat is repulsive. Yet, this cuisine is simply those more of the same plates, just recast with imitation-meat products. Rather predictably, the flavors are wanting. The birria nachos I got were missing the depth of burnt tomato/ chili flavor that distinguish the original. The plate tasted like cardboard. What was worse was the lurid yellow sauce that was some kind of non-dairy cheese. Whatever lab or industrial product this was probably didn't pass the digestibility test. And what horrendous additives were used in the coloring? The result was disappointingly desultory. If you're going for lunch you don't want to eat a range of "vegan doughnuts" or "vegan icecream" or "vegan puddings" which are more breakfast or snack foods. I make vegan food at home a lot with a variety of Mediterranean, Korean, and Indian menus and everything I make is spiced/flavored with real food, and it tastes delicious. Here, I get the sense the vendors don't know the depth of cuisines traditions so they simply may not use the curated spices of sourness/bitterness/umami to fully allow the vegan food to shine. I'm sure there are fantastic vegan plates all over LA, but just not at this fast food style range of options here. Overall predictable and not delicious. Just check the other reviewers, I'm surprised that many are candid about not being too impressed. read more

Long standing partaker in Vegan Excgange Los Angeles off Bakham and Chandler just across from the LA Metro Orange Line and North Hollywood Red Line Station. I've tried everything from Clean South and Compton Vegan (both soul food inspired plant based spots that pop up from time to time here) to Fancy Juice and Yerba Mate (got to stay hydrated) to Cinnaholics and Donut Farm (the sweets). It's so easy to get lost in this small, but super extensive Sunday market of eats, beverages (non-adult), sweets and vegan friendly people and merch that includes apparel, essential oils, candles, sunglasses and so much more. Though every Sunday from 11am to 5pm they have been incorporating a lot of fun elements most recently karaoke for your entertainment pleasure. They've had themed 2 hour events including couples mixers with food credit, lgbtq+ friendly mixers and just all-inclusive Sunday Funday awesomeness. Vendors rotate around but dont worry a lot of popular ones are pretty consistent with showing up every week like Man Eating Plant... best garlic noodles in the world. Vegan Hooligans is also an repeat offender that never lets you down until the start running out of food and trust me food can run out so try to attend before 2 to 3 for your first time. The parking situation isn't half bad (pretty much only street) as this event is off any major main streets and while it fills up fast during mid day... early morning (which is also the best time to wait in the lettuce feast line that never ends) and the last few hours thin out if your driving... being so close to two metro lines... it also makes for hassle-free travel all-around. I cant say enough good things... portable bathrooms that are relatively upkept as are the tables and benches throughout this weekly event... constantly being wiped down and cleared. Everyone apart of making this exchange thrive from week to week is a treasure. A great place to mingle and munch whether you're plant based or plant curious. Also for businesses with no brick & mortar locations some of the prices are a tad steep - unfortunately furthering the misconception that vegan food is always expensive. I went on a day with not much going there due to the weather. There was still a good selection of vendors & most importantly, good vegan food! Everyone I interacted with was friendly. The area was clean. Heads up, it's a pop-up on the street, so prepare for portapotties & street parking. I went to Id-Eclair, The Donuttery, The Plant Lab, & the beer garden. Id-Eclair brought me back to my childhood. I was finally able to eat meringues. It had been years since I'd had them. I never cared for macaroons until I tried these. The cookies were good. Nothing was overly sweet, which I preferred. Now, my favorite was the framboise! Those were yummy with the right amount of ingredients. The Donuttery has artisanal donuts, which is something I crave frequently. The selection was amazing, especially for my friend with a gluten allergy. My fave was the pb&j donut. I'm not a big sushi person; I decided to give The Plant Lab a try. I ordered the Fungus Roll. I ate it with no hesitation. That's how bomb it was. Also, the gyoza was good too. My food took longer than I thought, but it was all fresh. The beer garden is a fenced-off area where you can order alcoholic drinks. I boughy a random can this time. It was good. Beyond stoked to have the opportunity to check out this awesome vegan food fest while in town. So many delicious food and drink options, it's hard to choose. It's a rare treat to go to an event where I can safely eat anything on the menu. So I took full advantage. Best thing hands down is the cinnamon roll from All About the Cinnamon. Covered in cookie butter and Biscoff cookies. To die for. My daughter got the pizza fries from Vegan AF. They were disappointing. Very little flavor. Picked up a cute vegan shirt and some stickers as souvenirs. The festival could benefit from some shade and seating. Wear sunscreen. Worth the visit. read more

Everything everywhere VEGAN. This place is open every Sunday from 11pm- 5pm it's a collection of vendors and food trucks. We tried The Plant Lab which is a all vegan sushi truck, it was soooo good. Lots of kool crafts and products. The ambiance was great all the vendors were super friendly in their service. The vendors ch age every week I believe so you can keep coming back to try new vendors. Knocking a star off from my initial five-star review because I went this past weekend and tried the Vegan AF food truck and had a horrible experience. I bought their Banana Pudding (which is $12!) and it came in a small plastic container. It was wet and soggy and disgusting. I forced myself to eat like a third of it before I ended up throwing it away and getting banana pudding from Drippin Wangz instead. But that third was enough to give me food poisoning. As if the banana pudding wasn't disappointing enough on its own, I then had to suffer for the next couple of days! I still love Vegan Exchange but gotta knock a star off for this... I would review Vegan AF but I couldn't find a Yelp page for them. read more

I was hired to host a special music event here a few months ago. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and all the food I tried was really good. Fabulous event! Lots of options to choose from. We went to Fancy Juices and El Compa Tacos and they were both delicious and had great service. We were excited to try Voodoo Vegan, but we were sorely disappointed by their shady business practices, food quality, and service. This is not Vegan Exchange's fault, but I do hope they reconsider having them at the event in the future. All in all, the event is fun. :) read more

Vegan Exchange happens every Sunday from 11AM-5PM and it's FREE! Everything is vegan and delicious! Some vendors are consistently there every week, while other rotate so it's definitely worth going multiple times to find new vegan food and merch to love. The event is open to all ages, but unfortunately dogs/pets are not allowed. They only allow service animals. Parking isn't too bad. You can either try your luck with street parking, or just pay $3 to park at the metro station. If you're looking for a restroom, they have portable stalls. Definitely recommend this event to everyone, even if you're not vegan. Food is absolutely delicious -- you'll get vegan chicken nuggets that taste just like McD's. Or you'll find some super innovative foods you would have never thought existed! read more

It's sad that food trucks and food festivals have deteriorated so much in the past 5 years. It seems like the festival organizers charge so much to their vendors that the vendors can't make money without serving poor quality food at outrageous prices. This "Vegan Tax" that's trendy right now is getting absurd. A small scoop over mushy quinoa, and some overly salty mushroom for $15...WTF? Practically the entire Vegan Exchange was filled with deep friend, wheat covered, over priced, plants. Very few healthy options and everything over priced. Like $9 order of French fries. read more

I've been to similar events before and have always found them to be overwhelming between the number of people and amount of options however I just finally stopped by the Vegan Exchange LA and found it to be a great experience. They limit the number of vendors to fill one block and space everything out nicely so you walk in with a tremendous number of options, however, it feels more curated and special. Be careful as there was just so much food to select from, I wound up overeating as I found everything to be so delicious. You'll find both food and non-food vegan items here with almost every vendor accepting some form of electronic payment as cash is so 2020. read more

Super cool place with one of the most diverse crowds of people and vendors I've seen in LA. I'd never had much vegan food before today, but will be back many times now that I'm aware of this event. We ate at MANEATINGPLANT and wish we'd gotten everything on the menu. Next time. The Chili Garlic Noods were awesome as everyone told me. And when you get four people of each a different ethnic background telling you the noods are bomb...you eat the noods. Donut Friend is tasty and awesome and should be illegal. The_Base has great drinks with a multitude of options. Wingz had a spicy buffalo sandwich that my son loved. My daughter liked the Mac N Cheese Rebel. And then the Tiger Matcha. We're going back. I understand times a tough right now. But I have to warn people who are going here that you will have to wait an hour in your car. I'm currently an hour and 30 minutes in the car waiting for our food( no exaggeration 11:30 pickup got food at 1:02" I was told that they "didn't expect so many people to come" but we ordered last night and were given a time of 11:30 for pick up. We were also disappointed to see that some of the items we wanted were sold out the night before. So they know exactly how much food they have in stock and exactly what time people expect to get it picked up. This seems to be an issue with almost every single person ordering as I see people complaining every 5 minutes. Again I completely understand time's a rough right now but this is a warning if you're going bring a book or a movie to watch. But the people were very nice. Haven't tried the food but I'm sure it's cold. I really hope they get it together because they seem like nice people who are just very under prepared. UPDATE Food was still amazing. read more

Sunday has become my favorite day ever since I discovered this street fair. It's a great place for not only vegans but *everyone* to enjoy food with compassion. It truly is such a positive environment. {If you're vegan and you've had trouble in the past convincing your meat-eating friends to give plant based eating a try, THIS place will solve that problem for you}. So many great choices each week, and a few that have definitely become my favorites (Compton Vegan, Wingz, Lettuce Feast, Avocadomama, Base Co.)! Wish there had been WAY more plant based options but if you like the new fake meats and are ok with tons of sugars, then you'll love the wide selection of food and sweets. I preordered my food the Wednesday before the event with a pick up time of 2p. Sat in the car and waited over 2 hours just to receive cold food! This was uncalled for especially if you preordered. I hope you guys can do better but I will never order for this event again! read more

I really love the Vegan Street Fair and had high hopes for this event but unfortunately there was so little savory food for me to eat there as I eat gluten free. Most vendors told me they had nothing gluten free at all, while several asked around within the tent and gave half hearted "I think" responses. Everyone was kind about it but it was definitely disappointing. One of my favorite things about the Vegan Street Fair was that each vendor had a menu clearly listing gluten free/soy free options. I personally don't eat heavy soy which made matters more complicated. We found a few fry options but ended up getting a gluten free pizza from Swamiji which was delicious but had a hair on one slice but the wait was 26 minutes so we just through that slice out instead of returning it for a new pizza. It was $20 for a personal pizza size. We also got an icy type desert from Frozen fruit Co that was good but only bought because we couldn't find another savory food option (that wasn't fries) that was gluten free and light soy. Overall I might go back but wouldn't make a special trip unless they encouraged the vendors to have more GF options or at very least have printed signs similar to the Vegan Street Fair listing GF/SF so I don't have to wait in line after line just to be disappointed because they don't have gluten free options or they are just guessing it might be. read more
