Im honestly at a point where I'm really disappointed with this Vegan Mob location, which sucks to say because we actually like Vegan Mob. The food can be really good when it's on point. The biggest issue is how unpredictable this location is. There have been multiple times where their Instagram or website doesn't announce they're closed, but online ordering for pickup is still open, so you can place an order. Then you show up and the truck is closed. Lately, we've even been checking Instagram before ordering, placing our order when nothing says they're closed... and when we arrive, they're already shut down. This has been about 5 times! We're not ordering super late or anything wild, and it's not even close to our place. It's frustrating to drive out of the way after work trying to support a spot you like, just to find out they've closed early without posting anything or turning off pickup orders. Sometimes it feels like there's always an issue where they "can't cook" or are just done for the day with no notice. At this point, I'd honestly rather just go somewhere else than risk wasting the drive again. You never really know if they're actually open or not, and that's super frustrating. As for the food when it's good, it's really good. But it's also inconsistent. Some days it tastes great, other days it's overly greasy, which seems to depend on who's cooking. I want to support this place, but the lack of consistency and communication makes it really hard. Considering the price difference we figured the portions would be about two plates of food. But no, we got handed a single box with two of our sides coming in small containers, about the size of what you'd get a dip or condiment in. Definitely not worth the price based on that. If you look at their old menus the combo plate used to only be $10 more than the regular plate. That price difference is still huge but makes more sense than double considering you get the same amount of food. Do not get the combo plate. The food itself was not that good. I've been to vegan mob a few years ago and I enjoyed the taste back then but not now. The chicken and coleslaw were pretty good, most everything was alright, but the collard greens were hella salty. After tax this (+ tip and 1 lemonade) came out to nearly $60. It didnt taste like a $60 meal and I don't feel like I got $60 worth of food. Flavor either needs to go up or prices would need to come down for me to come back. Came to Vegan Mob to enjoy some vegan fare with friends. We ordered a smorgasbord of plates to share and were able to eat it right in front of the truck (as there were no other tables set up in the lot). A rundown of what we had: Lumpia and Garlic Rice - lumpia was filled with impossible meat. It was freshly fried and super crunchy. It didn't come with any sauce which seemed like a missed opportunity. The garlic rice was very garlicky and delivered piping hot, but it wasn't tossed very well in that you ran across some super salty bites and some super bland bites. Mob Burger Cheese Rolls - these were SO GOOD. They also featured impossible meat but also included a melty cheese which made it so much more complete. Fully Loaded Nachos - if your cowboy barbeque crashed into a tacqueria, you'd get these nachos which featured plant based brisket, baked beans, slaw, guac, and nacho cheese. They were really good but in my opinion, leaned too hard on the bbq. The sweet bbq sauce really overwhelmed the dish after a while. Large combo - we picked proteins of shrimp (oyster mushrooms), chicken (tofu), and rib tips (seitan). All of them were very good but I think the chicken was my personal favorite. For sides, we got the mac n cheese, mob fries, spaghetti, and candied yams. The yams and mac and cheese were DELISH. The fries were extremely sad, tiny potato sticks and the spaghetti would only be good of you like banana ketchup. The spaghetti was just way too sweet for me. Renz Po'Boy - points for using Dutch crunch! I also thought the faux shrimp was very convincing. The slaw was a little too creamy and wet on the sandwich but the flavors were certainly there. I definitely could have used a nice meaty tomato or some crunchy onions to play with more texture within the sandwich. Really wished there were some dessert options but in the Mission, it's not a huge loss since there's quite a few delish options nearby. I anxiously waited for their new truck to debut in SF so I didn't have to venture over the bridge for some tasty plant-based soul food. They park their truck on the corner of 18th & Valencia. A fantastic addition to the neighborhood! sometimes the Vegan Senor Sisig truck parks next to them and it's a vegan comfort food partay! Vegan mob has a loyal following, form both the black and vegan community. It's amazing to see a Vegan POC/black-owned small business owner make their dreams a reality and share their food and love with us. It is so difficult to choose what to eat because there are so many choices! However, you can't go wrong with a mob plate. Choose between small, medium, or large. It comes with protein and a bunch of sides. Get the lip-smacking Smackeroni! The collared greens are fantastic! The coleslaw adds something bright and refreshing to the dish. The fried chicken is so crunchy and savory. You really can't go wrong with any choice. They also do these really fun fusion plates that feature a lot of Mexican/Asian inspired dishes. I absolutely LOVE the garlic noodles! Order the Asian Mafia Mob plate and it comes with impossible meat lumpia, fried rice, and your choice or garlic shrimp or chili shrimp. Disclaimer: I'm not vegan - Shrimp Po' Boy: The only dish I recommend. It's soooo good and a very generous amount. If I were to return, the Shrimp Po' Boy is the only dish I'd get. - Lumpia & Garlic Rice: the lumpia is good (would be better with the sweet Thai dipping sauce) but the garlic rice left me unimpressed. Although, the vegan egg in the fried rice was good. - Rib tips & brisket: would avoid. The texture and flavor was not the best but the fried shrimp is worth it! - Sides: I could go without the fries or collard greens. The beans were good though. The staff was very nice and helpful, but they did get our order wrong. They were quick to fix it though. Be prepared to wait ~1 hour for the food even with no other costumers there. I'm also not vegan, so I can tell you an honest comparable opinion on the food. I ordered the Mob Burger Cheese Rolls which came with 4 rolls, drizzled with sauce and green onions on top. Just because something is vegan does not mean it has to be 'less than' other food in terms of flavor by any means. These rolls prove that to you in a heartbeat. Vegan food also doesn't necessarily mean healthier food, keep that in mind too as these rolls were filled with fat and carbs. But, veganism can help the planet. The food truck came to Sacramento for four hours. There was already a line an hour before they were supposed to arrive. I waited in line for two hours with my back hurting because there was nowhere to sit or lean against and waited 40 minutes to get my food--AND IT WAS TOTALLY WORTH IT!! I love everything I ordered and wish I could've ordered more. I would order full sides next time and the other items they had. In the combo plate I particularly loved the bbq beef tips and brisket. The fried chicken was ok. It was dry and it wasn't spicy. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to ask for it spicy or if it came that way. The shrimp PO boy was good BUT the bread made up most of the hefty portion. If you order sides--order ALL OF THEM! Just writing this review is making me hungry. I'd rather just eat vegetables, all of the fake meats were just disappointing. I tried the links, brisket, and tri-tips, and all were equally bad. Full disclosure: I'm not vegan. But I was vegetarian for five years and have always dabbled into vegan food or eat vegan every now and again as I generally try to eat less meat. I think Vegan Mob was pretty good, especially if you only eat vegan. The gumbo was too salty and I found the meat substitutes a little lacking, but the mac and cheese and greens were great. So this food truck really shines with its veggies and dairy substitutes. I didn't get to try a few things since they were out like the sweet potato pie which was a little disappointing. But overall I'd say Vegan mob is okay, and I probably would have given four stars had I tried the most popular dishes that were already sold out. Worth the wait and the hassle of parking in the Mission. As a vegan for over 25 years, it's rare that I'm blown away by a classic like potato salad, but damn...everything they do is incredible. I would have to say that their 'fried chicken' could be the best I've ever tasted...and my family agrees. I really can't find a miss any where on the menu. I've had a few interactions with Toriano, the owner and chef, and he has been incredibly cool and helpful. After an issue with a large take-out order he reached out to me via social media and made it right. The 2023 Vegan Mob is TERRIBLE!!! The food seems highly, highly processed, too oily and very heavy on the gut. I can no longer taste the soul in soul food. How do you make vegan spicy chicken taste like it came from a can? I don't know how, but they mastered it. The portions were so out of control, and made my shrimp too soggy (food was plopped on top of each other). Mac and cheese was dry.
