Sorry to be a downer but I was really disappointed in this caterer we ordered crab cakes and a cake from them for my baby sprinkle last month. The cake and crab cakes arrived 2 and a HALF HOURS late, and the cake was completely destroyed!!! They also didn't accommodate the customizations that my sister in law requested for the cake. Even the crab cakes were very underwhelming in flavor. Owner apologized, but this whole thing was handled so unprofessionally. We were given NO heads up that they were running to far behind, we had to keep calling them and asking when they would arrive! When she finally showed up she said "I'm sorry, it's been a really busy day." That made me feel like my order and event were not a priority to her at all. Plus the quality and presentation was . I found Vegan Soul while searching for a decent vegan cupcake for my kiddo's impromptu bday party in Columbia. I'm SOOO glad I found them. I did my search Thursday morning and by Thursday evening I had 3 types of cupcakes and Mac and cheese that was determined to be THE BEST my husband's had (he's picky and we are a generational Mac and cheese family). My guests couldn't believe everything was vegan, it was all so decadent! Next time I'll have to try the sugar free option, too! They do everything online at the moment, but I was able to contact them directly through messenger. They went above and beyond for me, expediting my order and making our celebration really special. Honestly I can't say enough great things about this owner! I called and spoke to her about options since she has so many to choose from and then placed my order online. She is taking orders for pick up however the actual bakery is not open at the moment. I tried to call a few days in advance to order a small birthday cake for my mom however she does close on Wednesdays and kindly took the order only one day in advance. I appreciate her being so accommodating. We have had vegan cakes and cupcakes before however this was the best by far. I ordered a small strawberry cake that was so moist and flavorful. Strawberries were so fresh and it wasn't overly sweet. We took the cake to a local restaurant to have at the end of our meal and I offered the waiter a slice. Apparently he took it back and shared it with the rest of the waiters who stopped me on the way out to ask about the bakery of this fabulous vegan cake. Honestly, this is the worst vegan "soul" food I've had in the area. I had their food at a farmers market a while ago and shocked to see them pop up on Yelp during my search today. Food was bland, overpriced for the small serving size and it took soooooo long just to scoop the food into the container. I've seen them around and avoid them. For now, I'm still driving all the way to PG county for good vegan soul food. Oh! And the cookies definitely don't stand up to other vegan options. You're better off going to Whole Foods. read more

We've been on the search for a good black vegan soul food restaurant after arriving to MD from CA. I've searched 6 months since December. I mean there is PLNT Burger, KAVA, or random dishes at chinese food places. However, those are all fast food and are only good that day. My wife and I have been vegan three years and this is the first time we have ever found vegan collard greens. I've officially allocated money from our grocery budget to be able to buy food from Vegan Soul Bakery. Their food is AMAZING. Last week we got the crab cakes, greens, apple pie, donuts, sangria, and egg rolls. The sangria was good, the donuts were decent, the apple pie was perfect, the crab cakes were amazing, and there greens were to die for. The egg rolls were very different. At first I didn't like them because I was expecting "egg rolls". However, I don't know how I can go back to "egg rolls" now. If you enjoy flaky, crispy, and meaty egg rolls.. these are for you. This week (Today(202100605)) we ordered greens again, garlic biscuits, and seitan curry. All three of these dishes are AMAZING! WARNING: They are understaffed drivers, and all the food is made the same day for delivery. There is a three hour window where the food comes right to your door still hot and ready to eat. That's an amazing feat during Coronavirus. I warn you to give them some extra time. I had a chance to talk to the owner and she sincerely apologized. She apologized for last week and and this week being so close to the end of the delivery window. So my only warning if you can't wait for your food eat a snack and be mindful they are overstaffed. Knowing that, it hasn't stopped me for placing our order for next week. Maybe ill try the lasagna, biscuits, greens, and BANANA PUDDING!!! read more

Do not order online. We placed an order for Christmas on their website (we live in TX) for about $100. We received a text that our order would be delivered by 12/24. We never received our order. We tried calling and emailing but no response. We had to file a dispute with our credit card co to reverse the charges. We then saw others with the same complaint online. read more

A family member tried to send us a Xmas gift of Vegan Soul baked goods. The order went in before the cut off in December. We were told to wait at home one day, then heard last minute the delivery date was changing. Nothing arrived. I called Vegan Soul after the holidays in early January and was assured that they hadn't forgotten us and would deliver next day. The order never came. No call or email. Then I called again in February and March and same issues. I was told the goods were coming. Then in March I reached out again and said I wanted the money to be refunded to our family member and haven't heard back. Several Vegan Soul staff have Covid. I understand this must be terrible time, and I am truly sorry for them and hope they will recover. This is still a business though and I would like this to be resolved. Listen to the Yelp and Google reviews and run in the other direction. They don't answer the phone, don't communicate about delays, and food quality is questionable. I received the runaround for my dessert order for days. 3 days after the day it was promised, they offered to Door Dash it to me and stated it had already been prepared and waiting for pick up. How so, when no one was there or answered the phone on the day of pick up? So you want me to accept a $40 stale pie? I did end up receiving a refund which is more than I can say for others in their Google reviews. The positive reviews they do have are so obviously fake. You've been warned. read more

THIS BAKERY DESERVES ZERO stars. This was the WORST experience with a bakery ever. We ordered two vegan cakes for our daughter's wedding shower two weeks ahead of time. Nobody at Vegan Soul would speak to me on the phone, so everything was conducted over text or email. Website very confusing and difficult to navigate. The order pickup time was changed THREE times - literally as I was one mile away from the bakery. The large sheet cake looked like it was decorated by a 4 year old. The chocolate icing was a dull, unappetizing brown. There were NO decorations as I had requested. And...they misspelled our daughter's name!!! The taste of the cakes were blah at best, overly sweet icing and most people took one bite and tossed their slices. All this for $175? I waited two business days for an apology or a refund from VS and got none. Now it is my mission to spread the word about what an abysmally poor bakery Vegan Soul is. NEVER use them! read more

A friend & I placed our order 3 days in advance for an 8:30 am pick up & paid in advance! We were super excited about the menu selection & my friend was eager to support locally! We're thinking we're all set! Around 7 am my friend received a message indicating the food would not be ready for pick up until 9:30am. No sweat! We can handle an hour delay given that we were notified. Upon arrival to this place it had, what I consider, crab paper on every door/window. Immediately it's sending red flags! Additionally, there's a handwritten sign that reads "Pick up?! Ring the bell" We ring the bell & a woman comes to the door about 2 minutes after ringing the bell. The woman is literally using her body as a shield; I'm talking boxing out as if she's in a basketball game, but in this case so you can't see in! There's an exchange of what's your name, what did you order & baffling expressions. In the end we received majority of our food around 10:15 am. My French toast was good; it was full of sugar. My tofu scramble, fried potatoes & vegan sausage was bland! So bland even with salt & pepper it wasn't worthy of eating. My friend never received her gluten free biscuits to go along with the bean dish. I'd also like to add, the woman who gave us our food offered my friend cake because they "ran out of biscuits" then later retracted because "She doesn't want to give you cake since you ordered biscuits." We still have no idea who "she" is because we only see the woman who gave us our food. Stand clear of this place! Totally not worth it!! read more

I am now outside of the store front and I have called two different numbers three times and have not gotten a response. My husband has ordered the meal prep service twice and each time the food was amazing! I'm vegan, but my husband isn't, so it was a nice treat AND I had the meals all to myself... my favorites are the mac & cheese, the lasagna, the black beans and the collard greens, though really, there wasn't a meal I didn't like! After having the amazing vegan platter and sampling a delicious gluten-free chocolate chip cookie (meant for a party later haha), I officially cannot understand any negative review of Vegan Soul Bakery! IT IS DELICIOUS! I've been vegan for a very long time, and traveled all around the world, and never have I EVER tasted more flavorful and delicious vegan food! Just WOW! I don't even really eat red beans and rice, but I ate this all within minutes! What makes it better is that this business is owned and operated by a beautiful Black woman! I first found Vegan Soul Bakery at the Oakland Mills Farmers Market a few years ago, and I'm thrilled that they have a restaurant/storefront now. Their red beans and rice is the best I've ever had. I've gotten delivery from them a few times, once as a Mother's Day present for my mom in 2020 when they were slammed during the onset of the pandemic and at least twice more since. I was very pleased with the food and the service each times. For Mother's Day they were running later than expected timewise but sent me texts to let me know, and it was totally understandable because of the increased business due to the pandemic. My mother received their Mother's Day box that afternoon and was so delighted! She's nearly a vegan and I am a vegan, and we're pleased to know that we can order from them. Not only was the Mother's Day dessert box so many more overwhelmingly tasty desserts than I had expected, but I also ordered, I think it was, southwestern spring rolls (can't remember the exact name because it was awhile ago) and they were so well seasoned! And on top of that I sent them several text messages inquiring about ingredients (due to additional food sensitivities) and how long I could keep the orders and whether they could be frozen, etc., and they answered all my questions with no hassles in a timely fashion.
