    My mom's delicious strawberry cake
    Staci M.

Honestly I can't say enough great things about this owner! I called and spoke to her about options since she has so many to choose from and then placed my order online. She is taking orders for pick up however the actual bakery is not open at the moment. I tried to call a few days in advance to order a small birthday cake for my mom however she does close on Wednesdays and kindly took the order only one day in advance. I appreciate her being so accommodating. We have had vegan cakes and cupcakes before however this was the best by far. I ordered a small strawberry cake that was so moist and flavorful. Strawberries were so fresh and it wasn't overly sweet. We took the cake to a local restaurant to have at the end of our meal and I offered the waiter a slice. Apparently he took it back and shared it with the rest of the waiters who stopped me on the way out to ask about the bakery of this fabulous vegan cake. Looking forward to trying more from here and hopefully Dining in soon!

Egg rolls, crab cake, sangria, apple pie, collards, donuts

We've been on the search for a good black vegan soul food restaurant after arriving to MD from CA. I've searched 6 months since December. I mean there is PLNT Burger, KAVA, or random dishes at chinese food places. However, those are all fast food and are only good that day. My wife and I have been vegan three years and this is the first time we have ever found vegan collard greens. I've officially allocated money from our grocery budget to be able to buy food from Vegan Soul Bakery. Their food is AMAZING. Last week we got the crab cakes, greens, apple pie, donuts, sangria, and egg rolls. The sangria was good, the donuts were decent, the apple pie was perfect, the crab cakes were amazing, and there greens were to die for. The egg rolls were very different. At first I didn't like them because I was expecting "egg rolls". However, I don't know how I can go back to "egg rolls" now. If you enjoy flaky, crispy, and meaty egg rolls.. these are for you. This week (Today(202100605)) we ordered greens again, garlic biscuits, and seitan curry. All three of these dishes are AMAZING! WARNING: They are understaffed drivers, and all the food is made the same day for delivery. There is a three hour window where the food comes right to your door still hot and ready to eat. That's an amazing feat during Coronavirus. I warn you to give them some extra time. I had a chance to talk to the owner and she sincerely apologized. She apologized for last week and and this week being so close to the end of the delivery window. So my only warning if you can't wait for your food eat a snack and be mindful they are overstaffed. Knowing that, it hasn't stopped me for placing our order for next week. Maybe ill try the lasagna, biscuits, greens, and BANANA PUDDING!!!

They did not even spell Sara's name correctly. No extra decorations, tasted dull...was this worth $100?

THIS BAKERY DESERVES ZERO stars. This was the WORST experience with a bakery ever. We ordered two vegan cakes for our daughter's wedding shower two weeks ahead of time. Nobody at Vegan Soul would speak to me on the phone, so everything was conducted over text or email. Website very confusing and difficult to navigate. The order pickup time was changed THREE times - literally as I was one mile away from the bakery. The large sheet cake looked like it was decorated by a 4 year old. The chocolate icing was a dull, unappetizing brown. There were NO decorations as I had requested. And...they misspelled our daughter's name!!! The taste of the cakes were blah at best, overly sweet icing and most people took one bite and tossed their slices. All this for $175? I waited two business days for an apology or a refund from VS and got none. Now it is my mission to spread the word about what an abysmally poor bakery Vegan Soul is. NEVER use them!

The most amazingly delicious vegan and gluten-free freshly made chocolate chip cookies!

The menu offers a nice balance between curated bowls and build-your-own options, and everything on display looked vibrant and genuinely fresh. Even the subtle aroma of garlic in the air set the tone in the best way. I don't usually go for chicken (I cook enough of it at home), but being from Hawaii, there was no way I was passing up on their limited-time Huli Huli chicken. For those unfamiliar, traditional Huli Huli chicken is typically bone-in, skin-on, soaked in a brine, marinated with a blend of soy sauce, ginger, brown sugar, garlic, and pineapple juice maybe rice vinegar or ketchup, it's all left to the cook. Basted several times as the meat is flipped until fully cooked. Back home, you don't just eat it--you experience it. You smell it long before you see it--grilling on those iconic half oil drum kettles along the roadside, often set up for fundraisers or local gatherings. The sight of chicken quarters being flipped ("huli" means "turn") and basted over open flames is pure island nostalgia. So yes, expectations were high. I was offered a sample, and it delivered. The flavor balance was spot on--savory, slightly sweet, and deeply satisfying. The chicken itself was moist and tender. The only thing missing was that classic crispy, charred skin and the full leg quarter presentation you'd find back home--but even so, it didn't disappoint and left me wanting more. My bowl came together beautifully with coconut sweet potato sauce, fresh spinach, garlicky cilantro green beans, and basmati rice. It was flavorful, well-balanced, and delicious. Service was another highlight--the staff was friendly, patient and helpful with recommendations. The space itself is not large to eat in but it was clean, bright with ocean-toned blues that nod to its island inspiration. I'll definitely be back--especially while that Huli Huli chicken is still on the menu.

We were unable to get much attention from our server due to how busy the restaurant was, but the dishes were left mostly untouched for a reason. For a $40 entrée, we expected much better quality and execution. Sadly, The Food Market did not deliver.

Ice cream with crepes are one of my favorite type of crepes, and that's exactly what I ordered; a crepe with ice cream. I walked in and the cafe was bustling with people enjoying their meal, and the workers preparing meals. It was a full house, however, I was able to grab a table for two. French Toast Crepe: this simple yet tasty crepe fit the bill. It had cinnamon flavor with whipped cream and I opted for a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It didn't come with fruit which I will add next time (yes, there will be a next time). Belgium Waffle: another simple item yet the batter was better than I expected. It didn't come with toppings. It came with a lite dusting of powdered sugar and came with room temperature butter. Chai Latte: this was good on the first sip. It seemed watered down and I would have preferred more flavor. Then again, I'm not a regular drinker of chai latte, and my daughter seemed to enjoy it. So don't count this out. When we ordered the staff gave us a disclaimer the crepe would take about 25 minutes. I didn't mind at the time. It took longer than that; however, I could see the workers constantly working on preparing meals so it didn't bother me. We got the waffle about 25 minutes later so we decided to share both the waffle and crepe. The crepe came out about 20 minutes later. The cafe has a well thought out layout. It has tables on each side, a reading area, and an area with complimentary water next to the coffee/tea station. The little station has water, cups, sugar, napkins and creamer (not pictured because it was packed and constantly occupied). On the other side you'll find more tables, the restrooms, and an ostracized nook that had someone in there occupying the chairs for what seemed like quiet time. Customer service is good. Parking is free in a huge parking lot for the business building. The cafe is located at the front of a shared business building. The menu has a variety of waffles with and without fruit options; crepes made either savory or sweet; and coffee drink options. There is an ice cream bar for scoops of ice cream or milkshakes; and lastly some fruit cups. Overall, I enjoyed the cafe and plan to add it to my list of favorites.

I'd never had them with crème fraiche, it was a nice change and the mild tanginess with the creamy texture complimented the Cakes well. I ordered the Main Street with Weisswurst, a Pretzel and plain Spätzle. It was my first, the veal's flavor is understated in comparison to Bratwurst or Knackwurst (not on the menu) and was a pleasant changeup. The Pretzel was little disappointing while it was a decent pretzel, it lacked the crisp crust and distinctive flavor I expected. As evident by the rating while worthy of note, it's not a game changer. I'd ordered a large plain Spätzle, which was two regular portions, but was served Spätzle with cheese I tasted it and it wasn't my thing, which is not to say it was bad, I just don't care for cheese in dishes like that. Our server swapped one cheese for plain (my wife had happily stolen the other) and enjoyed the replacement. I found that the grilled onions gave it a nice homey flavor. Mistakes happen and it turned out to be a win in the end. We shared a couple of desserts and by far, my favorite was the Black Forest Cupcake. It's on the large side, they might be able to cut on the weighty crème icing, the chocolate cake and soaked cherries were a delight. The cherries are a significant improvement over the Marchinos I had before, if only there were more. Rathskeller can get a little loud, as it is a relatively small space with hard surfaces so voices reflect, it wasn't packed this afternoon, so it wasn't an issue.
