We're allium free vegetarians and as soon as I saw this place is fully vegetarian AND they offer allium-free options, I was thrilled. Not to mention the fact that it is fully vegan/vegetarian THAI food; I haven't encountered one recently. If you're Jain, check out this place! We were visiting and in the area so made sure to drop by for lunch on a Sunday. In addition to having no onion, no garlic options, they are also knowledgeable about food allergies! Color me impressed! But back to that allium-free thing: there are usually limited options at places that claim they have a menu for those restrictions, but we could have most of the menu here! My youngest is allergic to wheat, eggs, avocado, peanuts (iffy since this is a Thai restaurant), tree nuts, pineapples, and kiwi, but he could have a decent amount of things as well. They also have a gluten-free sauce option so he doesn't have to miss out on flavor! The menu is actually primarily vegan for the most part but you can add egg for an additional $1. It can go either way though. In addition, spice level and items that contain wheat/gluten are indicated on the menu. They have sections for appetizers, soup, curries, noodles, dishes with rice, fried rice, dessert, and drinks. We ended up getting a little bit of everything (all allium free) because we weren't sure what our youngest would like: ROTI - I got this for my eldest, who is picky. But she loves carbs. I knew she'd love peel-apart roti and dip it in the curry... and I was right? She loved it. The curry is super flavorful and the spiciest thing we ordered. This matches with the previous times I've had this dish. TOM KHA - a coconut-based soup that isn't spicy and a nice combination of tangy and savory. This is one of the items that we got in case our youngest liked it. He didn't (very foreign flavors for him), but at least the adults did. FRIED OYSTER MUSHROOMS - oh, my. I would get this every time I go. Absolutely delicious and lightly crisp. Juicy insides, but nowhere was the dish wet. The chili salt for sprinkling/dipping was perfection. Pad Thai (peanuts on the side) - another item we got for our youngest. I'm getting the impression he doesn't like sweet/sour/tangy flavors (or he needs to get acclimated since this is his first exposure to it) because he didn't really like this one either. The adults enjoyed it though! Mango Curry - a fairly mild curry and delicious and came with a small bowl of rice. I'm not sure if they would have provided another bowl of rice because it would have been too small if it were for my husband, who is a bottomless pit for rice (he would have needed 2-3 of those bowls at least). The flavors were there! This was a winner with my youngest, but mostly just the rice and soup. The vegetables weren't cooked well enough for him (he likes them softer). Mild with a nice sweetness from the mango. We ordered quite a bit considering the fact that our kids don't eat that much, so we opted out of dessert, but we did get drinks (oat milk is the vegan milk alternative)! Both kids got orange and apple juice, respectively. The adults got: THAI ICED TEA - I enjoyed mixing the milk together (I chose regular milk) where it had that signature orange color. Tasted perfect as well! Not too much ice so when they did melt, it didn't taste watered down. THAI ICED COFFEE - This was my husband's, who loves coffee. But he likes black coffee. No, They cannot make this not sweet (he asked). I really liked this one too! You can taste the Thai tea and though it is sweet, it's not too sweet. It was the perfect marriage between Thai tea and coffee. Hubby thought it was fine because it was sweet (he prefers black, unsweetened, hot), but he thought it wasn't bad. I'd order this for myself. This place is located in a shopping strip with other eateries and businesses with ample parking. The decor seemed somewhat incomplete but the place was clean. Tables were cleaned promptly and staff were super helpful! It isn't all that brightly lit, but not in a bad way. While there, they had a steady trickle of customers and the same amount of take out/delivery orders. Food was great and reasonably priced. Owner is Buddhist; traditional Buddhist cuisine is allium-free, which explains the extensive options for those who follow that diet. AND both of my kids liked something there. I was really excited about this restaurant since it came highly recommended from a friend, however I was a bit disappointed. The hot basil sauce was too tangy and the flavour lacked depth. Our veggie friends discovered this place on Google and were stoked to find a safe restaurant for their dietary needs. I'm not a vegetarian or vegan, but I can get down on some tofu and meat substitutes, so we gave it a try. There are NO MEAT DISHES at this restaurant. It's located in a large strip mall with a dozen or more other businesses. There is plenty of parking. There's not much to the place -- it's pretty open with lots of tables for four. Once we ordered, food came up quickly. A friend got a meat-substitute dish, which was excellent. I believe it was imitating duck. She had the winner of the table. I ordered the Massaman curry based on the description, never having tried it before. I asked for my tofu to be fried. The tofu itself was very flat/soft (not firm at all) and wasn't very fried. The Massaman curry was NOT for me. It's very sour -- I should have Googled the dish before ordering. But read the description of the dish and you may understand why I thought it'd just be a normal curry dish. I only took a couple bites. The server didn't question why I didn't eat my food, which is always a bummer. Everyone else at the table seemed to enjoy their food, though we all agreed they should use a more firm tofu. Service was friendly but very lackadaisical. We waited quite a while to order drinks, then apps and meals, then to get our bill. At the end of our meal, we waited around, staring longingly at the server to notice and give us our bill. He was sitting nearby but playing on his phone and not being attentive to customers. Ignore the naysayers. Ive been going here since 11/2021. So thats about three years now. I wont stop going because of some guy saying they had chicken the previous year. That is BS. They've been vegan/veg for longer than that. And someone complaining about having a bad bobba tea experience and giving a 1 star review. Such a cute, tasty little spot! I went with my friend who is vegan. It was refreshing because she could eat anything and me, the meat eater, felt incredibly comfortable with the menu options. The popcorn "chicken" - oh my goodness - these were sooo tasty! They were so flavorful and crispy!! I also ordered the Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles) - while they say it was mild, definitely some heat involved. The staff were so kind and attentive. The server was very polite and every dish I purchased from there is always delicious. What I like about this place is that there is a parking lot so no street parking needed. My wife chose this place for my birthday lunch and boy did we find ourselves a vegan gem hidden in Piscataway! This is a very quaint place that has ample parking. We reached early for lunch time and the restaurant was hardly full. We ordered the Tofu triangles, vegetable satay, vegetable cashew nut, pineapple fried rice and honey banana. The taste was outstanding and the quantity was quite full for three people. The person who attended us took care of the checkout too. I've lived around the corner from this spot for years and haven't ate here until now. I also didn't realize that you can get everything vegan here! We got dumplings, green curry, pad see yu and fried rice. Everything was delicious and had a good amount of spice. Came in last night with my vegan friend to try out their vegan menu. Ordered the vegetarian dumplings, curry puff, pad thai, chicken coconut soup, tamarind tilapia fish, and vegan kung pao chicken. When my friend ordered her food, the waitress made this statement "too much food," which I found to be kinda rude. The food was mediocre to my tastebuds and compared to my previous experiences of eating at many thai restaurants in NJ. I liked that they have vegan options, but for me the flavor was lacking in all the food items. The best thing we had was the mango sticky rice and I felt like the portion was pretty tiny. The entree portion of the fish was quite large, at least 3 tilapia pieces and fried well. The fish and the tamarind sauce was delectable. The staff was friendly and attentative. It seems to be a family owned business. Business was also good the day we came, friday night. At least 8 filled tables. Every table had flowers and the restuarant had many plants (jade, ficus tree, orchids) decorating its theme. Noted that this restaurant is owned and ruined by chinese influence, not authentic thai. I was able to understand their mother tongue and new they weren't thai. Which kinda disappointed me. read more

A solid Thai restaurant in a strip mall. It is vegetarian and I hadn't had vegetarian Thai food previously. Lighting is a bit fun and layout feels quite open. I got a mildly spicy pad Thai with protein patties. The dish was kinda saucy and noodles were a little chewy. Protein patties kinda had the consistency of tempura (not fried) and were pretty good. Yellow curry beef . I shared this with another person but i was disappointed bec it was full of sauce and only a few pieces of meat. The salad with peanut dressing was not fresh. It was wilted and the dressing was stale. The curry came with a small bowl of rice , equals to about 1/4 cup cooked rice. So we ordered another bowl of rice , this time , it was a larger bowl ( about 1 cup cooked rice ) . They charged $2 for that bowl of rice. They also ask if we wanted tea. Asian restaurants always give tea for free , we said yes. It was bad generic tea and they charged us $3. So beware! read more

i've tried a lot of thai places and decided to give this one a try for the first time!! i would say this place is pretty average. i got the drunken noodles and my friend got pad thai. i didn't rly like the chicken in the drunken noodles it was really bland. but the noodles and vegetables were okay. for some reason i felt super full afterward even though i didn't even finish the whole meal. did they put too much MSG? LOL. i was bloated for a whole day after? i even took some probiotics which didn't help. but yea they have super big portions so you're definitely getting your money's worth! my favorite part was probably the curry puffs though!!! i think they were delicious and were a nice side dish to my noodles. probably will order from here again if i'm craving thai again but i'm gonna try other thai places first! read more

We get takeout here once a week and it is consistently excellent. Hot, fresh, cooked to order. Other family members are vegan and the restaurant has a large selection of vegan appetizers and entrees to choose from. I usually get the Lo Mein (vegetarian) with egg; the veggies are always plentiful and crisp-fresh. And the pricing is very reasonable for the portions. The staff is friendly. I was in the shopping mall where Thai Basil Restaurant is. I decided to grab a menu and place an order from my car. Right now Thai Basil has takeout only. You can call in on your phone, or place it in person at the door and then come back and pickup your order at the front door. You can also use one of the delivery services online. There is no outdoor seating. I ordered their Chicken Pad Thai. It was a nice portion and the flavors were really authentic. The chicken was tender and the vegetables were perfectly cooked which gave it a nice balance. I also ordered their General Tso Chicken. It came with a good amount of chicken pieces coated in sauce with a side of steamed broccoli and jasmine rice. The chicken was moist and tender. Again, a nice portion. The General Tso's Chicken has good flavor. FYI- Since this is a Thai restaurant, make sure you tell them the heat level that you like. I chose medium, which was perfect for me. I like my food more on the spicy side. If you don't like heat, order mild. Their hot is pretty hot compared to other restaurants. The staff was very friendly, and my order was ready as promised within 10 minutes. Thai Basil offers a good selection of Vegetarian dishes. I will definitely be returning. read more

My vegan friend heard good things about this place, so we went. it was a bit late for lunch, but the place was empty. We had vegan thai spring rolls, she ordered vegan pad thai and I have vegan fried rice with a chicken-substitute. We then split a vegan creme brulee. The spring rolls were very good. My fried rice was also good, and the chicken was undoubtably the -best- meat--substitute I've ever had. HOWEVER, the pad thai was -terribly- greasy, and practically inedible. The creme brulee was not a bad taste, but the coconut milk used was quite overpowering, so it didn't taste like creme brulee. The cost was very expensive for the size of the portions. As this was a bit of a drive for us, I'm not sure we will be back. read more

This is one of my favorite thai places to go around the area! The shop is found in the same plaza as Shoprite and Applebees, on the leftside near GNC. It is usually pretty quiet even during busy hours, and the waitresses are quick to serve you. It is a very family-owned style restaurant, and I overhear the waitresses and owners talking in Chinese. Their yellow curry is always my go-to, which consists of a variety of vegetables uncluding bamboo, zucchini, green beans and you can choose your choice of protein as well as spicy level. My friend ordered the pad thai and thought it also tasted pretty good. You must always also order their thai tea, which I think is brewed the best out of all the places I have been to. There is a strong tea flavor and a sweetness to balance it out. I love swirling it together until it forms a warm orange color. The price is a bit higher than some other places, but I think it is really worth it because they give you a lot of curry and toppings in it. Just wish they would give some more rice, but knowing how to portion it is perfectly fine! read more
